Palpatine edit

Of all of the current Star Wars articles, this one seems to be the most complete and accurate. It has been greatly contributed to and sourced. Please make any comments as to the lack of content or issues with quality in this article. The Wookieepedian 11:43, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • Wow, pretty impressive. This article is long, has plenty of pictures and references, and seems to be written well. But because this article is so long, the lead paragraphs need to be a lot lot longer than they currently are. — Wackymacs 11:49, 29 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Looks very nice! A few issues, though:
  1. To properly introduce the article, the lead needs to discuss both Palpatine as a character in a fictional work and Palpatine as a "real" person in the Star Wars universe; it currently omits the latter. I'm not sure how to do this without putting too many spoilers in place, though, so it might not be feasible.
  2. Some section titles don't conform to the MoS: "The ..." and unusual capitalization are present in some places.
  3. More precise referencing (either inline or via footnotes) would help for all of the "Some fans ..." sections; some of these statements are obvious, others not — and the not-so-obvious ones really do need to be cited. The same is true for much of the character history; with so many references, it's helpful to indicate which one facts are being taken from. <-- Good idea. I'll do that. --Maru -->

  • Are "memorable quotes" really necessary? Can that Frank Lautenberg incident be referenced or an ext.link provided? Can the "Palpatine's influence on culture" be referenced or are they just general observations? Maybe turn those [1] citations into footnotes with the ext link in the footnote, or give them a word instead of a number. How are the references ordered (is that alphabetical or chronological)? Maybe makes those footnotes go down to the references section. That could be very useful in the "Palpatine in the Expanded Universe" section, to link BookA[2] of topic to the reference of A^ . Otherwise, it is a comprehensive, well-written article. It just needs some balance between the excellent (fictional) biography and the hodge-podge of real-world influences/debate/commentary. Perhaps see Batman or Dalek for a FA on a fictional character. --maclean25 08:28, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • Someone may wish to investigate whether so many screenshots are acceptable as fair use. Currently the image upload dropdown menu specifies that "one per article" is the limit for screenshots. --bodnotbod 09:51, 30 October 2005 (UTC)[reply]
I'll second this. There are currently close to a dozen shots which is bordering on ridiculous. - AWF
  • Not bad...not bad at all. I did a bit of copyediting, but there are a few more issues:
  1. As noted on the talk page, which picture of Palpatine talking to vader in ESB that is in the article? make a note of this in the caption.
  2. You site a lot of sources at the end, but there are few external links in the article.
  3. I saw some great ideas on the talk page; take a look!

Hope that helps! HereToHelp (talk) 02:20, 1 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

  • I feel the opening photo is inappropriate (not to mention ugly in its own right). It does little to show him as a cunning and intelligent character.

Here's my first idea for a replacement that could be uploaded: [3]

And a second if someone insists on a lightsaber shot. It's not my personal favorite, but it's certainly more attractive than what we have currently: [4] - AWF

  • Re photos: those two suggestions are good (and I don't like the old one they used to have up either), but I also submit the photo at the Star Wars Wiki page, assuming it's ok to put up: [5] Yahnatan 00:30, 14 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • The "Quotes" section (which, to be pedantic, should really be called "Quotations") is too long, and none of the quotations have source informations or commentary. If these lines are drastically important, they could be merged elsewhere. The "Commentary" section which follows is really just a single block quotation, which should be merged with Ian McDiarmid's other comments. It might read better paraphrased, also. On the whole, though, this article was a pretty enjoyable read. Anville 12:26, 16 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]
  • There needs to be a greater balance of photos in this article. Currently, there exists one image of Palpatine in his "mild-mannered" persona while the rest depict his Sith alter-ego. If someone could replace or "even out" these shots, I think it would give a greater presentation. The previous "lightsaber shot" from the headline has also been replaced after a solid amount of negative feedback. If someone wishes, the former can certainly be placed elsewhere in the article.
