The last suggestion for a meetup here didn't really kick off, let's hope this one does! :)

In brief edit

Final arrangements edit

It's been decided that we're meeting at 6.30 at Manchester Piccadilly station, we will go for a drink or 2, then head to a nearby chinese for 7.30

I suggest specifying a particular point in Piccadilly :-) - how about the train timetable board - facing the main entrance? Cormaggio is learning 09:23, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Did you not get the email? Yeah, under the timetable is where. Majorly (talk) 10:03, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I just messaged Ryan, and afterwards realised my email wasn't set up (!), so if that's the arrangement, great! Cormaggio is learning 10:38, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Getting there edit

Poll edit

Note that in other contexts, polling is evil. Please don't do it

It seems some people are able to make Sat but not Fri. I dunno if there's anyone for which its the other way round. I propose a quick survey to find out who can make either (or both days). We can then see whether Sat is a more sensible day. Please sign if you can make a meetup on the evening of:

Discussion edit

Date edit

I'm thinking 8th of June, judt enough time to allow everyone who is at uni to come. Ryan Postlethwaite 00:20, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Any sort of time? Lucky I'm free all day so I'm flexible :) Majorly (hot!) 00:24, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Well.... better be after 4.30 as that's when my last exam finishes. 6.30 in the Chinese? (I'll look at good ones to go to (not too expensive!)) Ryan Postlethwaite 00:30, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I finish on the 1st and am in halls till the 16th, so whenever is fine by me! --Deskana (fry that thing!) 00:46, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I finish in May and don't get booted out of here until late July. – Steel 00:54, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'd suggest making the date unambiguous (as per question on wikimediauk-l mailing list]). It's definitely on the 8th, right? Cormaggio is learning 16:25, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The confirmed date for the meetup is 8th June 2007, we have enough support now to say that it will be definately going ahead. Ryan Postlethwaite 18:44, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Activities edit

I would suggest we go for a chinese in china town then go out to a few bars. Ryan Postlethwaite 00:20, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Suggested venues edit

In my experience, bearing in mind it's a Friday, somewhere there's a good chance of getting a table and where the music isn't overpowering is a must (at least for the start!) Somewhere that's relatively easily accessible from the train stations is also preferable - will people be more likely to come through Victoria or Piccadilly? Cormaggio is learning 20:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'll be coming in from Piccadilly. Majorly (talk | meet) 20:36, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ryan Postlethwaite's suggestion of a Chinese seems reasonable - Chinatown is only a short walk from both Piccadilly and Oxford Road stations, its right next to the Chorlton St. coach station, and for those arriving at Victoria the Metrolink stops at Piccadilly Gardens and St Peters Square are nearby. A possible place to meet beforehand might be Fab Cafe on Portland Street, on the edge of Chinatown. For a meetup of a bunch of website geeks, a place with a Dalek in the corner feels somehow appropriate. Shouldn't be too noisy early on. Oldelpaso 09:20, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Chinese is booked for 7.30 on Saturday at Moso moso. Ryan Postlethwaite 17:00, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
?? Moso Moso is fine for the university, but it's not remotely in the city centre. Why not good old Chinatown? Red Chilli is nice, and easy enough to find. Or perhaps Tai Wu (just outside, on Oxford Street)? I think we should aim to stay as close to Piccadilly as possible... Cormaggio is learning 23:59, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ah yes, I couldn't find a cheap one in china town, but I like your suggestions - I'll rebook one tomorrow. Ryan Postlethwaite 00:04, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
They look more expensive though..... Ryan Postlethwaite 00:07, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
How about the Grand Indian Buffet? On a Saturday it's like £8 or something for all you can eat indian buffet and unlimited soft drinks. It's not far from Piccadilly either. --Deskana (talk) 00:10, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There's a chinese all you can eat right next to it as well and it's massive, so we could always just decide when we get there? Ryan Postlethwaite 00:11, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
You mean the one underneath it? I always preferred the indian (mainly because of the free drinks!) but I'll go with either. What does everyone else think? --Deskana (talk) 00:17, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The all-you-can-eat sounds good :-). I'm happy with either Chinese or India though I marginally prefer Indian... WjBscribe 00:20, 5 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Has anyone booked a place? Or will we be chancing our arm in an all-you-can-eat? Is the meeting time and point still as above? Cormaggio is learning 19:40, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I hope so. If all 11 turn up, we're going to struggle. Majorly (talk) 20:37, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Re-starting indentation

From my calculations, it is about 2 miles from Piccadilly to MosoMoso - I don't see how there would be enough time

superbfc [ talk | cont ]21:21, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
From what I understand, we're doing the all-you-can-eat. I don't think we're chancing it, I'm sure there'll be space. --Deskana (talk) 21:53, 8 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Those places are huge, there won't be an issue fitting us in. And in the unlikely event they're full, there's loads of other options nearby. Oldelpaso 09:19, 9 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipedia activities edit

We can all fill in wiki questionaires and the pass round accordingally to learn about each other. We could also wear wiki-name badges so we all recognise each other. Ryan Postlethwaite 00:20, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Granted, this is a Wikipedia meetup, but let's not make it geek-central. – Steel 00:23, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yep, maybe that wasn't the best idea. My personal opinion is we should get together, discuss wikipedia as it happens, and simply get to know each other a bit better. Ryan Postlethwaite 00:32, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Unless people want to take photographs or visit the library or something, the main thing to do is to eat and drink, and let the day take its course.. :-) Cormaggio is learning 20:19, 14 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I still think the name badges might be a good idea. --Deskana (AFK 47) 18:18, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
There aren't going to be that many of us- surely we can remember who everyone is. Name badges seem a bit much... WjBscribe 22:42, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
But we'll look so cool! – Steel 22:59, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, all the other people will be well jealous :P Majorly (talk | meet) 23:09, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
So it's agreed then, namebadges will be provided - I was thinking about getting some T-shirts printed as well.... ;-) Ryan Postlethwaite 23:11, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Ooh the Wikipedia gang. Nice! ;) Majorly (talk | meet) 23:13, 21 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Please don't cause too much trouble like vandalising the city centre or I may have to arrest you! How would you feel if a fellow wikipedian had to arrest you? Anyway I can't come but have a good one guys!! =) P.S I hope you get the joke about 'vandalising' Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 16:34, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Places to stay edit

I am more than happy to let people stay at my house if they want to drink, then drive home in the morning, it might be the floor or a sofa, but at least it's a roof! Ryan Postlethwaite 00:36, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

People aren't technically allowed to stay in my halls, but I can spare the couches, or the floor in the lounge for my flat, if you can bring your own blankets! I've done it before. My room is pretty small so can't really have anyone in that, but the flat only has eight people in so the lounge is a safe bet. --Deskana (fry that thing!) 00:46, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I'm coming from Nottingham, so I'll probably need a place to stay somewhere. Whichever is more convenient for either of you I guess. – Steel 00:53, 27 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I can get some of you a police holding cell for the night if you wish? Just do something bad and phone the cops! LOL (No seriously don't) Dep. Garcia ( Talk + | Help Desk | Complaints ) 16:42, 28 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I hadn't really thought about somewhere to stay, so please let me know if I can be accommodated. Also, where is a safe place to park?
superbfc [ talk | cont ]22:17, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Do you mind a couch?? if not mine, and you can park right outside. Ryan Postlethwaite 22:20, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, that would be great! Thanks. Not made my mind up about whether or not to drive, it depends how I'm feeling on the day and how much I've had to drink the night before. Would you mind e-mailing me your details? I suppose that would apply for all of us, in case someone needs to let someone else know they're running late or had to pull out last minute/
superbfc [ talk | cont ]22:43, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeah, I'll send a spam email around for everyone tomorrow with my mobile number on, and address for those that need it. Drivings fairly simple (if you've got sat nav!) - will email you tomorrow about it properly. Ryan Postlethwaite 22:46, 4 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wish I could go... edit

Friday 8th is my last day of school before I go on study leave... *sigh*. If it was a week later I'd have been able to make it. :-( Never mind. Walton Need some help? 17:14, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Damn :( Well, I did think think saturday would have been better personally... Majorly (talk | meet) 17:43, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
We could at a push move it to saturday, but we'll have to be quick to inform everyone! Ryan Postlethwaite 18:07, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
It's alright, don't change it just for me. I'm not sure if I could go anyway - I have A-Levels coming up kind of soon. Walton Need some help? 18:16, 16 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Sweet Lord, I was actually in Manchester June 8th a year ago. I would love to come meet everyone...but it seems I can't exactly get there very easily from Denver, Colorado lol. Maybe next time :). Jmlk17 04:20, 26 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

To do edit
