Comments
  • The lead needs expansion. Talk about population figures, trends in county etymologies, etc. See List of counties in Florida and other recently promoted county FL's for examples.
  • Wikilinks to the counties in the 'origin' column would be nice.
  • I know its not a requirement, but add some simple alt text for the main image. See Template:Missouri County Labelled Map for an example.
  • Years of people's birth and death should be separated by an en dash, not a hyphen.
  • More recently promoted county FL's use "Counties" as the heading instead of "List".
  • Try to give just a little bit more info about what the counties were named for. Example: instead of just "The Sevier River", write: "The Sevier River, a 280 mi (450 km) long river, the longest in Utah".
  • Are there any counties that no longer exist, or any renamings?

  • Etymology for Tooele County isn't clear.
  • Retrieval dates for refs are not consistent. User either "April 29, 2010", or "2010-04-29" throughout.
  • Reword Carbon County etymology for consistency - all others do not include full stops.
  • Wikilink all the counties where they appear in the origin column. It's a sortable table, so those won't always come first (see WP:REPEATLINK).

  • "in the U.S. state of" I would prefer "United States state..."
    • I disagree here; "United States state" sounds terribly redundant and awkward, and U.S. is such a ubiquitous abbreviation that I don't think it bears spelling out even on the first appearance (much I like I would not expect UK, BBC, CNN etc. to be spelled out either in most articles).   • "originally seven counties formed under the provisional State of Deseret" when?
  • "The first legislature re-created the original counties from the State of Deseret as well as creating three additional counties: Juab, Millard, and Washington. All counties were created by.." confusing. The first sentence is talking about the creation of counties back in 1850-odd, while the next sentence

"All counties..." probably isn't. Can we clear this up?

  • "the population of Utah is 2,736,424" no, it was that many, in 2008.
  • Davis county - there's a conflict between the lead and table in land area.
  • Any reason why the column heading refs are on different lines from the heading?
  • What's a "county seat"?
  • Not convinced Origin should be sortable.

  • Any reason why that second table isn't sortable?

Comments.

  1. All counties were established by the Utah Territorial Legislature under territorial law except for the last two counties formed, Daggett and Duchesne. This is a slightly confusing sentence. It should probably read "all other counties" meaning all counties except those 10 already mentioned in the previous sentence.
  2. Please, also specify the time frame when they were created. (1851-1896?)
  3. They were created by popular vote and by gubernatorial proclamation. Please, specify years. It is also worth mentioning that at the time of their creation Utah was a state.
  4. I am also interested why the last two were created out of process? The article should probably clarify this.
  5. The image in the leading section should have a caption.

I think the problem is that the lead image is not an image map or thumbnail; it uses the template {{image label}}, so the caption does not appear. Dabomb87 (talk) 12:45, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

  • This is something not really in your control, but the map is out of date; a sizeable enough change to be visible was made in 2003 when Green River was transferred to Emery County from Grand County. --Golbez (talk) 17:30, 7 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Green River was in both couties. Residential in Emery and commercial in Grand, but most of the land was in Grand. A guesstimate from an outline of Utah shows the county transfer looks to be a 20 mile (east/west) by 5 mile (north/south) area into Grand County. I have GIS data for utah. Ok, I figured things out. I updated the map to show the new boundaries between Emery and Grand counties. I did a pixel by pixel change from the latest census maps Bgwhite (talk) 00:41, 8 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]
