Orphaned non-free media (Image:Tv sesame street door.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Tv sesame street door.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Thanks. I was in the process of tagging talk pages with old VfD discussions (Acting Sheriff VfD was 7 December 2003). On seeing Acting Sheriff, I wondered whether that old VfD was right to keep the article. On looking into it, there was plenty of material. Thanks for starting the page. Sesame Street edit

Thanks for the note. I've answered it on my talk page. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 16:17, 1 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't nominate this article for an AfD. Personally, I think that AfDs should be relatively rare. Press releases, from what I understand, aren't "liked" because they're self-published, and they can say whatever they like, even if it's not backed up by facts. --Figureskatingfan (talk) 00:17, 3 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Your edits - Sesame Street edit

Zanimum, your edits today to this article were great. However, where did you get that info? Remember this: WP:V. Oh, and while you're at it, remember that there's no original research in WP. If you let me know your sources, I'll add them to the article. One of the weaknesses of this article is the lack of sources, so I'd appreciate your assistance in this matter. moving an article edit

Hi Zanimum, I'd need the help of an administrator to move List of film noir to List of films noirs (because "list of ..." article names do use plurals, and "film noir" is not a plural). I've suggested the move on the talk page of the article, and nobody's voiced any objections. So I tried asking for an admin at the helpdesk, but to no avail. The article seems to have been copy-pasted originally from some an alternative article name--maybe that's why it's more work now (merging the article history rather than just moving it), and people didn't want to do it? I've honestly no idea. Could you help, either by finally moving the article or by telling me whom else to ask about it? Thanks, Ibn Battuta (talk) 17:05, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi Ibn, I tend to agree with you, that noirs is the proper way of putting it. I've moved it for you. Let me know if anyone objects, which hopefully they don't, I'm willing to help defend your decision. -- Zanimum (talk) 17:46, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot! ... and here we go! ... I've already asked the reverter to explain, so let's see what happens. --Ibn Battuta (talk) 23:48, 14 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Zanimum, as the reverter hasn't replied anymore, do you think it'd be an option to move the list to List of films noir? From what I understand, he could live with that. And you? (As I wrote on the discussion page, I'm fine with any plural...) --Ibn Battuta (talk) 16:05, 26 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Fair use rationale for Image:Sesame Street Hal Miller as Gordon with Susan and Oscar.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading or contributing to Image:Sesame Street Hal Miller as Gordon with Susan and Oscar.jpg. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is not a suitable explanation or rationale as to why each specific use in Wikipedia constitutes fair use. Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that any non-free media lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Image placeholders edit

Hi, hey, take a look at this discussion: WP:Centralized_discussion/Image_placeholders. Informative reading. Dp76764 (talk) 16:00, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, I saw it. However, I feel that this consensus was really stupid and against the whole nature of Wikipedia, of encouraging collaboration. I also felt it likely would have ended up in a different answer, had there been more knowledge of this debate in the community. So I added the placeholder because I felt like it. -- Zanimum (talk) 16:40, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
  • Yeah, I was surprised the first time I became aware of that decision. So, since you're aware of it too, I won't contend its addition if you feel inclined to re-add it. Happy editing! Dp76764 (talk) 18:06, 17 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Image copyright problem with Image:Werewolf vs vampire women.jpeg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Werewolf vs vampire women.jpeg. You've indicated that the image is being used under a claim of fair use, but you have not provided an adequate explanation for why it meets Wikipedia's requirements for such images. In particular, for each page the image is used on, the image must have an explanation linking to that page which explains why it needs to be used on that page. Can you please check

  • That there is a non-free use rationale on the image's description page for each article the image is used in.
  • That every article it is used on is linked to from its description page.

Nelson Antonio Denis edit

My Article Disappeared edit

Zanimum,

Thank you so much for visiting my page for NELSON ANTONIO DENIS.

It is the first page that I build on Wikipedia, and I researched/referenced it very carefully.

Unfortunately, the article DISAPPEARED!

I worked on it for three consecutive days, returned today to re-format the references and external links...and it was all gone.

The subject should meet the notability requirement with four years in the New York State Assembly, 19 articles about him in The New York Times, 300 published editorials and a national journalism award.

I saved all my works and latest updates.

I received no notice or feedback on the article, other than your thoughtful initial note.

Can you offer any guidance to me?

Thank you, MBernal615 (talk) 05:26, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Attempted to relocate it. edit

Zanimum,

I tried to move the NELSON ANTONIO DENIS page to NELSON DENIS, to see if the system would accept it there (in its latest version).

No luck, so I'm out of ideas.

The Height of Ignorance edit

Zanimum,

Please excuse my ignorance in advance (!)

I received your note, but I must be missing something here (perhaps some gray matter).

The article for Nelson Antonio Denis exists internally, but it does NOT appear in the internet world.

When I google Nelson Antonio Denis...it does not appear.

When I google Nelson Antonio Denis Wikipedia...it does not appear.

The article exists in a closed loop, but not in the "outside world."

Is there something else I'm supposed to do? Or just wait?

Please excuse my repeated ignorance. I'm just new to this, and stumped.

Thank you again, for taking the time to help. I really appreciate it.

MBernal615 (talk) 08:01, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yes, this is actually a normal occurrence, and no, it's not "the height of ignorance".
You created the article on Mr. Denis just a couple of days ago, and Google's "web crawlers" haven't yet found the page. Basically, they have their computers completely re-index the web every couple of weeks, gathering any changes on those pages. When Wikipedia is reindexed, the crawlers will discover that the links to this biography (from pages like List of Puerto Ricans, Puerto Rican literature...) now lead somewhere, and they'll add the biography to their index of the web.
There is a page on Google where you can supposedly encourage them to index the page quicker... "Add your URL to Google, but I'm not sure how much that process speeds things up, if at all.
So you know, indexing time varies. Sometimes, it takes a week or so, other times, they decide to reindex Wikipedia every day. Exactly how Google's search engine is programmed is a trade secret, so no one can really completely explain its choices. -- Zanimum (talk) 15:19, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Zanimum,
Your note was a big help.
Does that mean I should refrain from further editing/updates to the article, until it visibly appears on the internet?
Or in the alternative, should I rush to make those changes (if any), in order to avoid a second incubation period?
Thanks again for your information. This has become a real learning experience!
All best,
MBernal615 (talk) 18:45, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
By all means continue to make updates to the article, as much as you want. It doesn't terribly matter what content is in the article when Google indexes it, it's likely to rank in the top 10 automatically, seeing that its on Wikipedia. It should start to re-index quicker in the future, once it knows that the article is in the databased. Regards, -- Zanimum (talk) 19:03, 4 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

UP Yours! edit

YOu now what man FUCK YOU! My Rebellion is none of your business! That is an actually nation now! -- Emperor Herrington, formerly User:Global Empire

It may be a nation, such as the "Republic of Texas" claims to be, but it certainly is not a country or sovereign territory, a "political division of a geographical entity." Even back in the 1800s, "no European nation officially recognized the CSA as an independent country."
And just for the record, I'm not trying to blot you out. I've actually interviewed other southern state groups similar to the one you appear to be trying to found. The key difference? They actually assembled an actual real world organization, and silly as it is, and you have not.
Until you try and establish some sort of standalone website for your group, talk to the mainstream media about your group, and establish some sort of notability for your group, you have no place on Wikipedia. If you'd like to be included on Wikipedia without following the above outlined steps, I recommend you try and change our rules on Wikipedia:Verifiability and Wikipedia:No original research. -- Zanimum (talk) 16:19, 9 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree this practice is necessary with most cases, but I felt it was worth skipping, since the topic wouldn't have been obscure, as it would have been an internationally reported on event and it was recent. 2009 Canadian incumbents edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of 2009 Canadian incumbents, and it appears to be very similar to another Wikipedia page: 2008 Canadian incumbents. It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case. If you are intentionally moving or duplicating content, please be sure you have followed the procedure at Wikipedia:Splitting by acknowledging the duplication of material in edit summary to preserve attribution history.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. Northern lights edit

Hi, I left a question at Wikipedia:Reference desk/Language#Root words in a polysynthetic language and was wondering, if you had the time to look at it. What I'm looking for is the Inupiat word for northern lights to see if there is a possibility that it migrated as far east as Ulukhaktok. Thanks. Are you the author of this image edit

Are the author of File:Independents Day MG 8679.jpg? the image page claims you are, but various places on wikinews say it is Lex Kolychev. It just won POTY (congrats btw), however we need to make sure the author information is correct (as its currently plastered everywhere w/ your name on it). note this is wikinews mail. I'm posting it here in the hopes you get it faster. Bawolff (talk) 00:32, 11 March 2009 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I just saw on Facebook, out of no where two people congratulating me, and I wondered what in the work about. Yes, this is by Lex Kolychev, not myself. I put out an open call on Craigslist for a volunteer photographer, to photograph the event. He was the pick, and I sent him to the event. However, there really was so little to write about, that it never actually got its own article, it only ever appeared in the "News in pictures" section.

Rikki Lee Travolta edit

I am writing to give stability and accuracy to Wikipedia’s information about me.

First and foremost, I do not condone the actions of any group or individual purposely or accidentally spreading false information about me within the Wikipedia community or any other information portal.

Truth vs. Fabrications

Truth: I am best known for my stage work, including appearances in such vehicles as West Side Story, Bye Bye Birdie, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and Tony n’ Tina’s Wedding. I have been in semi-retirement since 2005, with cameos and telethon appearances being the primary exceptions.

Truth: Since 2005 I have worked primarily as a spokesperson for several national brand names.

Truth: I am credited as the first celebrity guest star in the Tony n’ Tina’s stage franchise – beginning in Chicago and spreading out across the U.S.

Truth: Broadway World News did publish an account that I was named one of the Top 5 actors to play the title role in Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. According to Broadway World News I share this honor with Donny Osmond and Patrick Cassidy.

False: Despite rumors to the contrary, I am not related to John Travolta.

False: Despite published reports, I was not at any point in discussions to replace Pierce Brosnan as James Bond in Casino Royale, an honor that deservingly went to Daniel Craig.

Truth: I was in discussions to bring Bye Bye Birdie back to Broadway in 2005 (as title character Conrad Birdie), but the revival was canceled.

False: I have not been signed to play Thor in a Marvel film adaptation.

False: I have not been signed to play Captain America in a Marvel film adaptation

Truth: I did release two albums – Broadway Live and Hero’s Lullaby

Truth: I did publish a novel titled My Fractured Life in 2002. Along with a reissue in 2004, the fiction book has sold over 1,500 copies and was optioned by Port Magee Pictures for film adaptation.

False: Despite rumors to the contrary, my fiction novel My Fractured Life is not a biography and clearly states it is a work of fiction.

It is my distinct hope that this account of information will help stabilize discussions.

Speedy deletion of Claudia Drexelius edit

A tag has been placed on Claudia Drexelius requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the page does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the page or have a copy emailed to you. It looks like you were not notified of this AfD. Some of these tools below may help you, een though I see you are one of the 24% of editors who has an article deleted who has more than 350 edits.

I really think this article mimics the template, and probably should be merged or deleted...

There are several tools and helpful editors on Wikipedia who can help you:

1. List the page on Article Rescue Squadron. You can get help listing your page on the Article Rescue Squadron talk page.
2. At any time, you can ask any administrator to move your article to a special page. (Called userfication)

3. You can request a mentor to help you: Wikipedia:Adopt-a-User. But don't wait for a mentor to respond to you before responding on the article for deletion page.
4. When trying to delete a page, veteran editors love to use a lot of rule acronyms. These acronyms don't need to intimidate you. Here is a list of acronyms you can use yourself: Deletion debate acronyms, which will help you argue that the article should be kept.

If the page you created is deleted, you also have many options available. Good luck! Ikip (talk) 02:05, 3 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Splitting off content edit

Just to let you know that when you split off from one article into a sub-article (like you did with Rumours and urban legends regarding Sesame Street) you have to leave a note in the edit summary, linking to the article the content is from. This allows readers to find the original authors of the content and is a requirement of the GFDL license under which the content was released. This is summed up in Wikipedia:Article size which states:

"To conform with §4(I) of the GFDL, the new page should be created with an edit summary noting "split content from [[article name]]". (Do not omit this step or omit the page name.) A note should also be made in the edit summary of the source article, "split content to [[article name]]", to protect against the article subsequently being deleted and the history of the new page eradicated." (emphasis from original).

In this instance I have added a note on the new article's talk page[1] and made a note in the article's history. Regards, Guest9999 (talk) 12:58, 14 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for uploading File:Character comedian charles e. grapewin.gif. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, then a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a restatement of that website's terms of use of its content, is usually sufficient information. However, if the copyright holder is different from the website's publisher, their copyright should also be acknowledged.

Proposed deletion of JenniferJohn and BritneyBob edit

A proposed deletion template has been added to the article JenniferJohn and BritneyBob, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process because of the following concern:

Unreferenced and notability not established

All contributions are appreciated, but this article may not satisfy Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and the deletion notice should explain why (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised because, even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached. File source problem with File:Irwin postcard.jpg edit

File Copyright problem

Thanks for uploading File:Irwin postcard.jpg.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have uploaded by following this link. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:10, 24 September 2009 (UTC). If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Salavat (talk) 06:10, 24 September 2009 (UTC)Reply
