Request reason:

I am using my dedicated server with IP addresses 151.80.42.161 and 2001:41d0:e:fa1::/64 as a VPN host. I believe those IP are amongst IP pools that are under preventative block from editing on Wikipedia, even if I am logged in to my user account; however, I would like to contribute from this host. I do not believe any harmful activity has ever been registered from it on Wikipedia. Is there a way to unblock those specific IPs so I can edit with my account? Thanks. Accept reason:

This seems to be an honest case of a personal server with a dedicated IP address being caught up in a range block. Given your followup to your failed appeal below, I am granting IP block exemption. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:08, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

To edit from this account even if using a hardblocked IP, you need to request IP Block Exemption. Have a read through that page then fill out a request using the Unblock Ticket Request System using this account. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 15:08, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

OK thanks, will do. UTRS seems to be unavailable at this time though, hope it will be back soon. Yvesk (talk) 15:12, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

  • You should be able to edit through the IPv6 address. The 2001:41D0:0:0:0:0:0:0/44 range is blocked for anonymous editing only, while logged-in editing is allowed (see the block log). Vanjagenije (talk) 21:08, 2 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
My Mac Pro at work has multiple IPs on the local network, which kept confusing other machines which couldn't find services running on the other IP - to the extent I gave up and just put a static IPv4 address on everything. I wonder if that's a related problem here? Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 11:22, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
My VPN server currently only supports IPv4 connectivity. I'll look into IPv6 support but it would be dangerous to only rely on IPv6. I opened a ticket on the UTRS. Yvesk (talk) 13:20, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

UTRS appeal #16835 was submitted on Nov 03, 2016 13:18:32. This review is now closed.

The reason given in the automatic response to unblock appeal #16835 was that my IP address is a "webhosting service"; it is not a "web host". It is my own dedicated server, and no anonymising service, including Tor relay, is installed on it. I can prove it any way you would like. I am the sole user of this whole machine and bought it so that I can have my privacy wherever I go. Hindering this usage (basically net neutrality) is really not what I was expecting from Wikipedia. Is there any way I can defend my case or is this a final decision? This would be very frustrating… Yvesk (talk) 17:35, 3 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
If you feel the last appeal was misunderstood, you may try again. It isn't a final decision. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:01, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Upon review of WP:IPBE and consideration of your situation, as well as your limited contribution history, I have decided to extend good faith to you that you will not abuse the block exemption, and granted it. ~Amatulić (talk) 01:07, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
Thank you very much! Yvesk (talk) 09:34, 6 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

IPBE expiring - March 2019 edit

Hello Yvesk, I'm working on some routine cleanup and see you have not made use of the ip block exemption flag on your account for over a year. This will be removed in about a week, unless you reply below that you still have a need for this flag. This will have no impact on your ability to read Wikipedia. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 12:49, 15 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hello Xaosflux.
The main reason why I haven't been contributing is because I mostly use my newer IPv6 range which is 2001:bc8:3285::1/48. While I still own the previous one (2001:41d0:e:fa1::/64), I'm OK with you removing the exemption on it, but I would very much appreciate that you transfer it to 2001:bc8:3285::1/48.
Thank you.

Hi Yvesk, thanks for the note, this will be maintained for you. If you become inactive for a long time again (generally a year) we may check in again. Best regards, — xaosflux Talk 20:52, 23 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
