AFC Sandbox

Re. Wikipedia:Articles for creation/AFC sandbox

Hi there. My76Strat (talk · contribs) had the quite groovy idea of making an AFC sandbox; so I've had a go at setting it up.

Can we make Soxbot clear it, please, as it does the others?

Header, I think is,

{{Please leave this line alone (AFC sandbox heading)}} <!-- Hello! Feel free to try your formatting and editing skills below this line. As this page is for editing experiments, this page will automatically be cleaned every 12 hours. -->

In addition...well, I imagine I've done things wrong, so please feel free to fix, etc.

Cheers,  Chzz  ►  03:49, 1 October 2010 (UTC)

Regarding our conversation on IRC, I did attempt to request this action through bugzilla. The request was declined here leaving this talkpage request intact. I do understand your time constraints and will kindly await any response. Thank you for considering this request. Kind regards. My76Strat 15:11, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
Apparently I wasn't clear enough. I meant User:X!/Bugs. (X! · talk)  · @679  ·  15:18, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
My misunderstanding. I have corrected this request to the location you provided. Best. My76Strat 17:17, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

Your RFA votes tool

Hi X! it seems your tools could not parse over 30 of my RFA votes O.o, could it have anything to do with my signature? Cheers, —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?12:01pm 02:00, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

No, it just means that you edited it without voting (e.g. discussion section, nomming, asking a question) (X! · talk)  · @140  ·  02:21, 3 October 2010 (UTC)
I voted in all of them and made some comments. —Ғяіᴆaз'§ĐøøмChampagne?6:12pm 08:12, 3 October 2010 (UTC)

RFA Tally/report is down

It was working for a while there, I thought. (X! · talk)  · @615  ·  13:46, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
It hasn't updated since 07:00, 12 Oct. As a side note, why don't we make WP:RFXR dependent on the tally? The "time left" can use time functions rather than needing to be updated manually, and the S/O/N count can come from the tally. Then RFXR only needs to be updated when an RFA is added or removed, or has duplicate votes. –xenotalk 13:49, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
(edit conflict × 2) Problem solved. When Keepscases removed the oppose (good move, I thought), he forgot to readd the #. (X! · talk)  · @618  ·  13:50, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Gotcha. I'll watch for that in future. –xenotalk 13:51, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

SoxBot UAA

Apparently the bot is still reporting usernames with WAIT_TILL_EDIT that have no edits. See this, for example. ~NerdyScienceDude 22:40, 10 October 2010 (UTC)

Soxbot on WP:UAAB

Has Soxbot failed on this task? Or have users been very good lately and not created any naughty names? —  Tivedshambo  (t/c) 18:48, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm not exactly sure what's going on, but either way, I'm in the middle of a rewrite of the bot that should be up and running in a few days. (X! · talk)  · @830  ·  18:55, 17 October 2010 (UTC)

tweaking the nipple

Was wondering if you could remove "nipple" from the list of verboten words that are reported to UAA as violations. We have had several lengthy discussions on the subject and there was a strong consensus that "nipple" is not offensive to the average person. Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive572#Block review of User:Nipple37, Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive573#Haven't I seen your nipples somewhere before? and Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/IncidentArchive637#Nipples - I have two, how about you? are three of the relevant conversations. As you can see in all cases the block was overturned and the blocking admin chastised. Beeblebrox (talk) 18:49, 13 October 2010 (UTC)

I'm about to head off, but it's at User:SoxBot/UAA/Blacklist. (X! · talk)  · @830  ·  18:54, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Done Beeblebrox (talk) 19:14, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Twelve users with "nipple" in their name have been blocked this year after making at least one edit: Sacredrightnipple, Crabnipples, Peperoninipples, Sizzlenipples, Ondinenipple, Fishy.nipple, Hairynipple111, Bolognanipples4all, Urdadsleftnipple, Austinnipples, Nipplenipplenipple, Trish touched my nipples, Mcdobblenipple, Pippilongnipples, and Mynipplehunter69. It does seem that at least 1/3 of the users with these names are vandals even if 2/3 aren't. (I excluded from the list those users who were blocked before they made any edits, since we wouldn't know what their intentions were.) While I agree we shouldn't block a name like that on sight, it may be a sign of an account to keep a watch for (I recently added "boobs" to the list for the same reason.) Soap 19:23, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
If their edits are a problem, they can and should be blocked for that, not their username. Since the bot can't see any context when it makes a report, it was probably causing more problems than it was solving by reporting these. I'm pretty sure at least two of the three cases linked above stemmed from bot reports. The first one in particular was a very long and very confrontational discussion that almost ended up before ArbCom and/or a desysop conversation for the blocking admin. In the interest of avoiding that in the future I really think it is best to let the edits of such users speak for themselves instead of casting suspicion on them because they used the name of a body part in their username. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:10, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Sometimes it's worth reporting, for example "Trish touched my nipples" is worth blocking based on the name alone. Why not re-add it, but with a comment warning admins to be cautious? - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:16, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I really, really, think the interest of drama reduction outweighs any harm posed by some user making an edit or two before being blocked, but if you guys insist on re-adding it with a warning I won't make a big deal out of it. I have no idea how to do that myself so someone with bot-fu will need to handle it. Beeblebrox (talk) 20:25, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
Well it's just a suggestion as a compromise between removing completely and having in normally, I don't really have an opinion. If you do add it, should just be ;nipple:HOMOGLYPH,NOTE(COMMENTGOESHERE),WAIT_TILL_EDIT or use LOW_CONFIDENCE, although I'm not sure that would be sufficient. - Kingpin13 (talk) 20:32, 13 October 2010 (UTC)
I won't add it back either unless there's consensus from other users to do so. On a tangent, UAA/Bot seems to be down as of about 07:00 GMT on Oct 14. I suspect it might have something to do with the Recent Changes revamp that also broke Huggle, but I want to point it out even so in case there is something else that needs to be done to fix it. Soap 12:41, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

Yeah, in response to the bot being down, if it relies on the IRC Recent Changes feed, you are probably going to have to make it so that the bot does not rely on diffs coming from a specific nickname, because they're planning on splitting the work of displaying the feed among several different bots, or at least that's what I gathered when I talked to the devs. The entire network is read-only anyways, only the RC bots can post in the channels, so there really is no need for the bot to rely on a specific nickname. The Thing // Talk // Contribs 12:57, 14 October 2010 (UTC)

It's never used the "rc" nickname, it's just parsed every message sent to the channel. That wasnt' the cause of the breakage. (X! · talk)  · @075  ·  00:48, 19 October 2010 (UTC)

Storm of the month
'Typhoon Fanapi' is Storm of the Month

Typhoon Fanapi approaching Taiwan

Early on September 14, the JMA reported that a tropical depression had formed east of Taiwan. The Joint Typhoon Warning Center soon designated the depression as 12W with PAGASA naming it Inday shortly thereafter. Later on the same day, the tropical depression was upgraded to a tropical storm and was officially given the name Fanapi by the JMA. On September 16, the storm further intensified into a severe tropical storm. That same day, the JMA further upgraded it into a typhoon. Fanapi turned west and intensified into a category 1 typhoon that night. On the following day, the storm further intensified into a category 2 typhoon. On September 18, the storm further intensified to a Category 3 typhoon and moved straight into Taiwan. It made landfall in Hualien County at 8:40 a.m. (10.40am AEST) on September 19, with winds of 162 kilometres (101 mi) and across the island at a speed of 20km/h. Shortly after its landfall, it moved south and again turned east and rapidly weakened into a Severe Tropical Storm. It had a Category 1 equivalent strength at that time. At 06:00 PM (Local time), the typhoon went back into the ocean. Post Storm Analysis proved that the system stayed on land for 9 hours approximately. The storm made its second landfall at Zhangpu County, Zhangzhou, Fujian province, China, at a Category 1 Typhoon intensity. The Storm caused a large scale damage to Taiwan. In the early hours of September 21, Fanapi weakened into a tropical depression over Guangdong province, China. On Septemner 22, Fanapi dissipated completely.

How to opt out?

Hi, I'd like to opt out of the edit counter. I created the opt in page some time ago, and now can't figure out how to opt out. Can you delete for me? Thanks. Truthkeeper88 (talk) 00:21, 22 October 2010 (UTC)

Sorry for not using the bug reporter, but I don't have (and don't want to have) a google account. Your tool Page History Statistics is responding very slowly right now. All responses only contain error messages (DBError...). It's easy to reproduce, because it happens always... Thanks for the tool, I like it a lot. --ACNiklas (talk) 16:48, 24 October 2010 (UTC)
