Managing a conflict of interest edit

Hello, Worldaffairssf. We welcome your contributions to Wikipedia, but if you have an external relationship with some of the people, places or things you have written about on Wikipedia, you may have a conflict of interest or close connection to the subject.

All editors are required to comply with Wikipedia's neutral point of view content policy. People who are very close to a subject often have a distorted view of it, which may cause them to inadvertently edit in ways that make the article either too flattering or too disparaging. People with a close connection to a subject are not absolutely prohibited from editing about that subject, but they need to be especially careful about ensuring their edits are verified by reliable sources and writing with as little bias as possible.

If you are very close to a subject, here are some ways you can reduce the risk of problems:

  • Avoid or exercise great caution when editing or creating articles related to you, your organization, or its competitors, as well as projects and products they are involved with.
  • Avoid linking to the Wikipedia article or website of your organization in other articles (see Wikipedia:Spam).
  • Exercise great caution so that you do not accidentally breach Wikipedia's content policies.

Please familiarize yourself with relevant content policies and guidelines, especially those pertaining to neutral point of view, verifiability of information, and autobiographies. Note that Wikipedia's terms of use require disclosure of your employer, client, and affiliation with respect to any contribution for which you receive, or expect to receive, compensation.

For information on how to contribute to Wikipedia when you have a conflict of interest, please see our frequently asked questions for organizations. Thank you. Joseph2302 (talk) 17:59, 10 June 2015 (UTC)Reply

World Affairs Council of Northern California edit

Hello! This page was deleted because it appeared to be unambiguous advertising and some content was taken directly from worldaffairs.org. If you are the owner of the copyright, you will need to donate the text for use on Wikipedia, or you could simply reword it.

Please understand that Wikipedia is not a platform to promote a business or idea. I realize this may not have been your intent, but the tone of the article made it seem as though you were promoting the subject. If you'd like to attempt to recreate this article, please do so through our Articles for Creation program by using the article wizard, keeping all content in your own words. When you submit the article, it will then be reviewed by experienced editors who can help you refine it so that it won't get deleted again.

Finally, your username may be violation of our username policy, as it appears to represent an organization and implies that the account may be shared by multiple people, which is prohibited. Please take a moment to rename your account so that it represents you as a sole editor. Other people should have their own respective account. Let me know if you need help! @MusikAnimal: Thanks again for your help. I wanted to do some digging to understand what happened, but I actually think I'd rather just delete this account than rename it. It's associated with a shared email address, so it wouldn't be right to just rename it. I can't figure out how to delete it. Let me know if you can point me in the right direction. Thanks!
