Edit Summaries edit

Hi there. When editing an article on Wikipedia there is a small field labeled "Edit summary" under the main edit-box. It looks like this:

The text written here will appear on the Recent changes page, in the page revision history, on the diff page, and in the watchlists of users who are watching that article. See m:Help:Edit summary for full information on this feature.

Filling in the edit summary field greatly helps your fellow contributors in understanding what you changed, so please always fill in the edit summary field. If you are adding a section, please do not just keep the previous section's header in the Edit summary field – please fill in your new section's name instead.

Using detailed edit summaries is the best way to ensure that your good faith edits are not reverted by recent changes patrollers or other wikieditors. Thanks!

April 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. The recent edit you made to American Idol (season 8) has been reverted, as it appears to have removed content from the page without explanation. Use the sandbox for testing; if you believe the edit was constructive, please ensure that you provide an informative edit summary. You may also wish to read the introduction to editing. Thank you. December 2009 edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content from Mrs McGinty's Dead. When removing text, please specify a reason in the edit summary and discuss edits that are likely to be controversial on the article's talk page. If this was a mistake, don't worry; the text has been restored, as you can see from the page history. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia, and if you would like to experiment, please use the sandbox.

Your edit removed verifiable, referenced, and cited material without explanation. Please use edit summaries. Thanks and happy editing! — SpikeToronto 22:37, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Dancing with the Stars (U.S. season 10) edit

An editor has nominated one or more articles which you have created or worked on, for deletion. The nominated article is Dancing with the Stars (U.S. season 10). We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also Wikipedia:Notability and "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion(s) by adding your comments to Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Dancing with the Stars (U.S. season 10). Please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate.

Please note: This is an automatic notification by a bot. I have nothing to do with this article or the deletion nomination, and can't do anything about it. --Erwin85Bot (talk) 01:39, 12 December 2009 (UTC)Reply

September 2010 edit

  1.   Please do not add or change content without citing verifiable and reliable sources, as you did to List of songs in Glee (season 2). Before making any potentially controversial edits, it is recommended that you discuss them first on the article's talk page. Please review the guidelines at Wikipedia:Citing sources and take this opportunity to add references to the article. Thank you. Yvesnimmo (talk) 20:22, 18 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
  2.   Thank you for your contributions. One of your recent contributions to List of songs in Glee (season 2) has been reverted or removed, because it contains speculative or unconfirmed information about a future event. Wikipedia has a policy called Wikipedia is not a crystal ball, which discourages such edits. Please only add material about future events if it is verifiable, based on a reference to a reliable source. Thank you. Yvesnimmo (talk) 23:22, 21 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
  3.   Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Before saving your changes to an article, please provide an edit summary, which you forgot to do before saving your recent edit to List of songs in Glee (season 2). Doing so helps everyone to understand the intention of your edit (and prevents legitimate edits from being mistaken for vandalism). It is also helpful to users reading the edit history of the page. 4.  Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Regarding your edits to List of songs in Glee (season 2), it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, reduces edit conflicts, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Sebastian Smythe edit

I wanted to let you know why I reverted your changes just now, and why I believe "Smythe" is the correct spelling rather than "Smyth" so we don't get into an edit war over it.

I had originally used "Smyth", even though it seemed unlikely, because like you I saw it on the Fox Glee recap for episode 5. (I also got the spelling for "Cooter Menkins" there, which is a bit worrying.) This website is sometimes the best we can do, but it's notorious for getting things wrong, especially spelling. For example, they had episode 4 as "Pot 'O Gold" for weeks, when the apostrophe should never be before the "O", and despite that all of the previews and videos and Fox press releases that came after used "Pot O' Gold". Now, it's been changed on the recap site, but it's still wrong, saying "Pot of Gold".

I found a "Behind-the-scenes" Warblers video, which I referenced in the article for "The First Time", and which clearly spelled the name "Smythe". In my experience, they're far more careful with their videos than on those recap pages in terms of spelling everything properly. So I changed the spellings to "Smythe" from the other spellings, both "Smyth" (recap site) and "Smithe" (EW articles).

Can I ask whether you actually looked at the reference in "The First Time" which pointed to the video in question? Oddly, when you changed the spelling, you didn't bother to change or remove the reference that was already there, you just added your own after it. This meant there were two references, one which showed the spelling was "Smythe" and another that it was "Smyth"; one way or another, further clean-up would have been necessary. Generally, when you make an edit, it should be comprehensive. You can also check the history to see whether there are any comments about the spelling; if you had, you would have seen this note from an edit I made on November 9: 'changing Sebastian's last name to "Smythe" based on new Warbler video'. West Coast Spoilers? edit

Is it appropriate not to edit in the story until after the episode has aired on the West Coast? I'm in the East myself, so I already know what happened (that last scene was so predictable for once), but on the West Coast no one has seen it yet unless they are watching a satellite feed from our section of the planet. I know on Twitter cast of some shows ask for no West Coast spoilers. CycloneGU (talk) 02:16, 22 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Thank you message edit

Hi again,

I wanted to thank you for your collaboration with tonight's DWTS show with me since it seems we were the only ones editing the page. I would like to apologize, first, for not allowing to edit the weekly scores. For me, it was the easiest job ever than calculate averages and add them in the right spots. If you ever feel I am neglecting you in editing that area, just a leave a message on my talk page during the show, and I will work on other areas. Again, I would love to thank you for helping and your collaboration. It was much appreciated. It is easier to do the job with two people, and I hope we edit together again next week. You are a delight (: Callmemirela (talk) 02:05, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

But since you're always on top of things, I have no doubt you'll edit diligently as you always do! Wilted Youth (talk) 02:30, 7 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Robert Fyfe edit

Hi @WIlted Youth:, please don't change the age of Robert Fyfe without citing a reliable source. As I'm sure you know IMDb is not and has never been considered to be a reliable source on Wikipedia. All reports today on his death state that he was 90, and that came directly from the actor's agent who spoke to the press. The birth records on ScotlandsPeople support this: Robert Douglas Fyfe, b. 1930, Kirkcaldy. There is no individual who was born in Alloa in 1925 called Robert Fyfe. IMDb is wrong, and it will corrected in good time once a full obituary surfaces with complete bio details. Thanks --Jkaharper (talk) 23:53, 22 September 2021 (UTC)Reply
