Oxford Wikimania 2010 and Wikimedia UK v2.0 Notice

Hi,

As a regularly contributing UK Wikipedian, we were wondering if you wanted to contribute to the Oxford bid to host the 2010 Wikimania conference. Please see here for details of how to get involved, we need all the help we can get if we are to put in a compelling bid.

We are also in the process of forming a new UK Wikimedia chapter to replace the soon to be folded old one. If you are interested in helping shape our plans, showing your support or becoming a future member or board member, please head over to the Wikimedia UK v2.0 page and let us know. We plan on holding an election in the next month to find the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board who after obtaining charitable status will start the fund raising, promotion and active support for the UK Wikimedian community for which the chapter is being founded.

You may also wish to attend the next London meet-up at which both of these issues will be discussed. If you can't attend this meetup, you may want to watch Wikipedia:Meetup, for updates on future meets.

We look forward to hearing from you soon, and we send our apologies for this automated intrusion onto your talk page!

I Should Coco

Couple of items:

  • You might want to cut the number of sound clips for the album from three to two
  • Make sure all magazine titles are properly formmatted.
  • Everyhit.com can't be used for album sourcing info. Ask JD554 to look up British chart positions for you. He has chart books.

Aside from that, put it up for a GA nom and see what happens. Good luck! WesleyDodds (talk) 00:53, 9 October 2008 (UTC)

sorry you feel that information about the national ice carving association doesn't belong in the page about ice carving. Speedy deletion of Image:BronzeOxKassam.JPG

A tag has been placed on Image:BronzeOxKassam.JPG requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the image is a redundant copy (all pixels the same or scaled down) of an image in the same file format, which is on Wikipedia (not on Commons), and all inward links have been updated.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on [[ Talk:Image:BronzeOxKassam.JPG|the talk page]] explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. British chart positions for Supergrass

Hi, I've had a look at the discography and can confirm that all the British chart positions you have up to and including "Low C" for singles and up to and including Road to Rouen are correct. I can't confirm the releases after those because that's when the book was published.

The source is: Roberts, David, ed. (2006), British Hit Singles & Albums (19th ed.), HIT Entertainment, p. 541, ISBN 1-90499-410-5

I hope that helps, --JD554 (talk) 07:15, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes indeed. The only ones I can't confirm are Diamond Hoo Ha for albums and "Fin", "Diamond Hoo Ha Man", "Bad Blood", "Rebel In You" in for singles. All the rest are OK. --JD554 (talk) 07:54, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Yes it does. User:Bleddynefans might be able to help with the others. I've noticed from some of his past edits to Glasvegas that he might subscribe to ChartsPlus. I don't know if he's amenable as I've never asked before, but it might be worth a shot. --JD554 (talk) 08:25, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

I've got some more sources for the missing chart positions for you: Diamond Hoo Ha #19 is on The Official UK Charts Company here, "Fin" #111 is on Zobbel here, and "Bad Blood" #73 is on ChartStats here. I still can't find a reliable source for "Rebel in You". Zobbel and ChartStats should both be considered reliable as they state their sources here and here respectively. --JD554 (talk) 10:48, 17 October 2008 (UTC)

This was useless, so I removed it. what else do you think we could source? The fact that hes Korean? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 205.200.18.71 (talk) 09:02, 17 October 2008 (UTC) that's a good reason to remove it.Morefight (talk) 18:50, 5 December 2008 (UTC)morefight

I print-screened it off Strange Ones (http://www.strangeones.co.uk/music/78_01.htm), if you hover over the little 'i' speech bubble after 'with bonus 7"' it comes up.

Sorry, I was sure I sourced it but it turns out I didn't.

Feathery Sunshine (talk) 20:37, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Damn, it is as well. It was ages ago so I honestly can't remember where I got it from. If the sourcing needs to be accurate then you could always use the picture from here (just scroll down a bit) - http://eil.com/shop/moreinfo.asp?catalogid=446503 - although it isn't the original one I used on the I Should Coco page.

Deletion of Philip DeFranco Article

Dear TwentiethApril1986 the article falls within the line for an article on Wikipedia i do not think there is a valid reason for this page to be deleted. It would be very aprishiated if you could remove the deletion tag you have put on the article, and if there is anything wrong with the page please notify me and i will do my best to fix any and all problems. Kyle1278 (talk) 17:11, 17 December 2008 (UTC)

To TwentiethApril1986: If you read the Wikipedia criteria for a entertainer having a bio page it states thus:

Actors, comedians, opinion makers, models, and television personalities:
       * Has a large fan base or a significant "cult" following.

This is clearly applicable to Philip DeFranco (aka sxephil) as he has about 300,000 subscribers on youtube, so I don't think this needs to be discussed further.Ezzi386 (talk) 05:44, 21 December 2008 (UTC)Ezzi386 (talk) 03:49, 22 December 2008 (UTC)

hi

I saw you edited Philip DeFranco‎, I think you should list it for deletion again, it doesn't seem to pass WP:BIO to me. i don't know why the admin didn't delete it last time.--Otterathome (talk) 04:53, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Yes, but there isn't any article about him just mentions and blogs, which is also makes it violate WP:BLP. "large fan base or a significant "cult" following" - I don't see any reliable sources saying so. I would support you sending it to AFD again.--Otterathome (talk) 13:42, 21 February 2009 (UTC)

Proposed deletion of Monkey News Source

The article Monkey News Source has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Only apparent notability is nomination for Streamy award. No Google News hits, and not much actual coverage in first few pages of Web search

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{dated prod}} will stop the Proposed Deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. The Speedy Deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and Articles for Deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Hello. Your account has been granted the "reviewer" userright, allowing you to to review other users' edits on certain flagged pages. Pending changes, also known as flagged protection, will be commencing a a two-month trial at approximately 23:00, 2010 June 15 (UTC).

Reviewers can review edits made by users who are not autoconfirmed to articles placed under flagged protection. Flagged protection is applied to only a small number of articles, similarly to how semi-protection is applied but in a more controlled way for the trial.

When reviewing, edits should be accepted if they are not obvious vandalism or BLP violations, and not clearly problematic in light of the reason given for protection (see Wikipedia:Reviewing process). More detailed documentation and guidelines can be found here.

File source problem with File:Tenth Doctor Brown Suit.jpg

Thank you for uploading File:Tenth Doctor Brown Suit.jpg. I noticed that the file's description page currently doesn't specify who created the content, so the copyright status is unclear. If you did not create this file yourself, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright. If you obtained it from a website, please add a link to the website from which it was taken, together with a brief restatement of that website's terms of use of its content. However, if the copyright holder is a party unaffiliated from the website's publisher, that copyright should also be acknowledged.

If you have uploaded other files, consider verifying that you have specified sources for those files as well. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged per Wikipedia's criteria for speedy deletion, F4. If the image is copyrighted and non-free, the image will be deleted 48 hours after 20:48, 19 January 2011 (UTC) per speedy deletion criterion F7. If you have any questions or are in need of assistance please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. EdokterTalk 20:48, 19 January 2011 (UTC)

Speedy deletion nomination of File:Io9 Logo.svg

A tag has been placed on File:Io9 Logo.svg requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section I2 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Thanks for uploading File:Torchwood Miracle Day Title card.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. Radio 2 Newsreaders and Stand-ins

Can I bring your attention back to the Radio 2 article. There's currently an edit war on whether or not Andrew Peach should be classed as a daytime newsreader. This has been going on for quite sometime, and I notice that you have already raised the question in the past of whether the Radio 2 newsreaders and stand-in presenters should be included. The page has a protection so nobody can edit it at all. Can I ask your opinion? It has been suggested the newsreaders (and travel etc.) should all be in one category, and not specify daytime or evenings. If not, perhaps we should go back to your point and have them all removed? ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
