Welcome!

Welcome to Wikipedia, Tvsinha! My name is Ryan, aka Acetic Acid. I noticed that you were new and haven't received any messages yet. I just wanted to see how you were doing. Wikipedia can be a little intimidating at first, since it uses different formatting than other sites that use HTML and CSS. In the long run, though, you'll find that the WikiSyntax is a lot easier and faster than those other ways. Here are a few links to get you started:

There are a lot of policies and guides to read, but I highly recommend reading over those first. If you have any questions, feel free to leave me a message on my talk page. Please be sure to sign your name on Talk using four tildes (~~~~) to produce your name and the current date, along with a link to your user page. This way, others know when you left a message and how to find you. It's easier than having to type out your name, right? :)

I hope you enjoy contributing to Wikipedia. We can use all the help we can get! Have a nice day. Sincerely, Ryan. 09:48, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

  • You're welcome. Thanks for the message. It's good to see that you have already edited your user page and sent me a message. I guess I can infer that you've managed to find your way around. :) Keep up the good work. Ryan 10:16, August 1, 2005 (UTC)

Patna edit

It looks really good. I see you added a lot of information. I have just a few suggestions. First, you should add a few pictures of the city. I'm not an expert on uploading images, so you might need to ask someone else about that.

Second, the body of the article lacks a lot of internal links. Anyway can add those, even if they aren't familar with the subject.

Third, there aren't any sources cited through the article. In addition to the external links at the bottom, it is a good idea to place links right next to the information.

Hope this helped. Ryan 05:02, August 2, 2005 (UTC)

Its informative but still can do with more information. Some sections are very small while the history section is too large. Move the history info to History of Patna and summarise the same on this page. An infobox is needed. I wonder if you know about the Wikipedia:WikiProject Indian cities. I'm sure that will help you get it up to Featured status. You also have to add references to your work. Where did you get the info? Add those websites/nespapers/books. See Wikipedia:Cite your sources. Lastly some images are needed. I took out a photo of the station last year, I'll try and upload it soon. I hope you have plans to try and feature the article, I'll guide you along the way if needed. =Nichalp «Talk»= 17:52, August 2, 2005 (UTC)
Dear Sinhajee, firstly, I welcome you to the wiki-community. I am sure you shall enjoy the experience. As regards Patna, I will once read the fresh edits carefully, and then surely try to give my suggestions. In the meantime, please try to edit on the lines suggested by User:Nichalp. Happy aboard the wikipedia. Cheers!--Bhadani 18:48, 2 August 2005 (UTC)Reply
Dear Mr. Sinha, I have gone through the article carefully and suggest re-wording of some portions to avoid copyright issues as indicated on the article's talk page. If necessary, I will surely do that. Your edits are really fine. I am sure, with a little more, you may make this article as a Featured Article. As suggested by Nichalp, I am commencing another page as History of Patna. Happy editing. Cheers!--Bhadani 15:52, 7 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Sorry. I have not been surfing for sometime. Incidentally, this text has been taken from The Hindu, not the website you have mentioned, which itself appears to have taken it from the said Hindu article. I did a quick reword of the same. I will try to locate the name of the author, a muslim gentleman, and the date of its publication, most probably early 2001 - someone had forwarded the article to me as a document. --TV 11:12, August 16, 2005 (UTC)

Agam Kuan edit

Hello Mr Sinha, nice edits. Please continue the good work. I have also a suggestion: as and when you edit any page related to Bihar, please put a category at the last like Category:Bihar within [[ ]]. And, thanks for putting an image in the article Golghar. All the best and happy editing.--Bhadani 13:45, 19 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Rajgir edit

Your edits look okay to me. I don't have any particular knowledge of the subject area, just edited some of the things I do know. Your additions need some cleanup, but getting the information in there is important as well. As you get more used to Wikipedia editing, some of those things will get easier. Somebody will probably tweak your wording (hoary isn't quite right, has more of a negative connotation), but that's no big problem. I've also cleaned up by using digits for 46 and removing the ampersand. I wish there were a better link for various "baths" than the bathing article. Gene Nygaard 17:56, 31 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

You need to explain the term "the-then" or make it "the then-_____" in "Jarasandh, the-then of Rajgir". Gene Nygaard 18:01, 31 August 2005 (UTC)Reply

Divisions of Bihar edit

hi, nice that you created the above page - actually, I was searching for these information for quite some time. Thanks. I shall be doing very minor changes to these pages. --Bhadani 14:03, 4 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

I received your message, good that you also have roots in Bihar / Jharkhand, my home states. We shall surely cover all aspects of both the states in wikipedia. Actually, we require more of original photographs. By the way, User:Nichalp is in the race for being elevated to a higher position in wikipedia so that he may serve the wiki-community better. In case, you want to participate, please go to his page and follow the link: Wikipedia:Requests for bureaucratship/Nichalp. Thanks. --Bhadani 16:32, 4 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
Hello dear TVS, I saw your recent message about Cuisine of Bihar and about editing the wikipedia. I will suggest while editing you should be bold - only information you are giving should be correct and relevant. So please do not worry about this factor - everyone was new "once upon a time". As regards, comments by others, it is a community - so that is OK, several type of comments shall always be there. Wish you all the best and happy editings.--Bhadani 13:56, 5 September 2005 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the thanks, on my copyedit. The Bihar page is very interesting -- makes me want to get on a plane -- I can practically smell & taste the "local sweets".

Assistance Requested edit

Dear Tvsinha,

I am requesting your assistance as a eurocentric user is taking an obsolete colonial view of indian history and biasing indian articles. The worst example is on the indo greek page where that user knitted together 3 maps (2 of which are inaccurate and mischaracterized) and stated that it was representative of the Indo Greeks[[1]]. He is commandeering indian history and aggrandizing greek influence.

  • He created a map showing all of northern India (upto maharashtra and as far as bengal) under the Indo greeks.
  • He has wrongly credited foreign influences ranging from astronomy (he originally wrote that the greeks gave india astronomy) to mahayana buddhism
  • He wrote that the greeks helped chandragupta conquer the nandas (contradicted by eminent scholars)
  • He has routinely committed original research by interpreting primary sources as he sees fit (i.e. kushan empire map)[[2]]
  • He attacks users who try to reason with him and violates agreements

I do not want a biased indian nationalist version of history. I want a fair treatment of it that is representative of mainstream views--something which is difficult considering the colonial views that have impacted it (AIT, etc). As such, I have appealed to wikipedia administration. Please consider adding to the indo greek talk page as a show of support. Users vastu, pavanapuram, windy city dude, and mahitgar have already called that contributor's practices into question. Your assistance and voice would be welcome. Thank you for your time.

Regards,

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
