Aim edit
This WikiProject aims to, in general, increase the quality of all articles related to Railways in India by expanding them, simplifying them and by adopting a standard and easy structure over them.
Scope edit
The scope of this project fundamentally is loosely defined as all articles and sections relating to Railways in India. Almost all of these will be (eventually) categorised under below categories.

Banners edit
For reasons of maintenance, it is desirable that all the articles that are under the scope of this project be categorized in a simple and easy manner. To do this, most WikiProjects use banners and so does WikiProject Indian Railways. These banners automatically add the talk page of the article to the suitable sub-category of Category:Indian railways articles by importance. It is highly recommended that whenever one creates or edits an article within the scope of Indian Railways, they check for the following banners on the article's talk page. Doing so will not only help better organise WikiProject Indian railways, but also WikiProject India and WikiProject Trains. To add an article's talk page within the scope of this WikiProject, place one or both (as per situation) of the given banners by entering the respective code for it:
WikiProject India banner edit
Place {{WikiProject India|railways=yes|railways-importance=}} at top of the article's talk page and choose railways-importance from either 'top', 'high', 'mid' or 'low'. It will produce:

Importance rating edit
Both of the banners require the user to specify an importance paramater. The available options to choose from and the condition in which to use them are given below. Important: Do not add different/conflicting importance parameters for both the banners. In simple words, if a page has both the banners, they both must have the same importance rating.
Please note that the importance ratings for WikiProject Trains is different. It is strongly advised that the importance scale of WikiProject Trains be consulted with when changing the overall importance rating through the {{TWP}} banner.
