UFOs real or not? #1 edit

I have nominated your page UFOs real or not? for speedy deletion. Unfortunately, the page does not satisfy a number of criteria necessary for a Wikipedia article. Firstly, it consists largely of opinion and original research, which is forbidden by the policy Wikipedia:no original research. Secondly, the page Unidentified flying object already exists, and covers in an encyclopedic style the same material that your page covers. Before creating pages on wikipedia, make sure you check to make sure that a page for that topic does not already exist. Check out Wikipedia:guidelines and Wikipedia:how to write a great article for more tips on contributing. Happy editing! --Swpb talk contribs 22:00, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

please do me a favor and keep it if you want i can put my article on the one you said it was similar to actually i've tried but i may need assitence with that

In trying to make Wikipedia the best encyclopedia possible, we can't make exceptions and grant favors for hard work or new member status. As I have stated on the article talk page, Wikipedia itself is not a valid source for an article, as that information is already present on Wikipedia and should not be duplicated. If you feel that information you have found elsewhere is useful to the understanding of the topic, you may add it to the article Unidentified flying object, but you must explicitly cite your sources (see WP:CITE). Also, be sure to sign your posts, by placing four tildes (~~~~) at the end. --Swpb talk contribs 22:37, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

my referances are not so hot on truth either, thats why i made it as a dission article for the reader to dicide. and dude wiki already is. Kids i know in my school may have used Wikipedia for projects. heck i got 95% of the info in my article from wikipedia. and many encylopedia's have duplactions becuase new information might be gathered after the article is published and it may not be able to get a rewrite so they put this in either as a revission or as another article all together Tu-49 22:55, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

at this moment im not injoying my arrival but if my newest article stays here, i will be a little bit happyer but i may also make new and other articles here for Wikipedia even if my UFO article gets deleted

{{helpme}} How do i create an article while trying not to make it look like any others we have here and what Airplane articles have already been written? Tu-49 23:02, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm here to help!
The best place to start an article is to find a topic wikipedia dosn't already cover. I just started 3 new articles about books I've read.
The article "Airplane" is a good place to start when looking for various airplanes. "Aircraft" has some info on diffrent kinds not covered in the other article. And "List of aircraft" has a huge list of diffrent kinds of airplanes. ---J.S (t|c) 23:33, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

okay well when i ment planes i meant FIGHTER aircraftTu-49 23:44, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

UFO's Real or Not #2 edit

im not letting my article goTu-49 23:22, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, the article you wrote is a bit redundant and it violates a few little rules... how about we move it to your user page and you can improve it without needing to worry about it getting deleted? ---J.S (t|c) 23:29, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

that may sound good on paper how do we do that?Tu-49 23:31, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'll do it. Give me a moment. ---J.S (t|c) 23:33, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Ok, you can find your article here: "User:Tu-49/UFOs real or not?"
While it's in your user space please don't add any links to it. (Someone will remove 'em.) ---J.S (t|c) 23:37, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

okay well what changes do u think should be made? o and if u were the one who wrote the Ace combat articles i have this to ask about ACzero, y did u chop it up, it was perfect already?Tu-49 23:40, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

No, I didn't write it...
Well, here is a few tips on how to improve your article:
1. Everything needs to be written from a neutral voice. That means not taking any point of view... pro or con. (see WP:NPOV for more details)
2. The article can't contain any original thought or research. Everything we wright about here at wikipedia should have already been written about by someone else. I know, it sounds kinda drab, but it's an important rule. (see WP:NOR for more info)
3. Everything we write about here should be verifiable by a trustworthy source. That means the reader should be able to go-to the local library and double check the article. That also means we need to use citations in our work to make that kind of checking possible. (See WP:V and WP:CITE for more info)
Once you do all that your going to find your article will look a lot like the already existing article on UFOs. ---J.S (t|c) 00:02, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aircraft articles edit

You mentioned on another user talk page that you were interested in writing articles about aircraft (if I understand correctly). You might want to check out this page, which lists articles that have been started but are classified as "stubs" because they need a lot more content added in order to be a full article. -- John Broughton | Talk 14:31, 16 November 2006 (UTC) yes but my concern now for the wiki projects is Operation bolo Tu-49 19:33, 16 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Copyright edit

Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia. We appreciate your contributions to the Operation Bolo article, but for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted.

Feel free to re-submit a new version of the article. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I irrevocably release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, for use on Wikipedia and elsewhere."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. You can also leave a message on my talk page. -- zzuuzz (talk) 02:55, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi. The above message is one of our standardised ones to explain our copyright policy. I could tell by the images you uploaded that perhaps you hadn't realised that copyright is important around here. Let me give you an example, this work by Diego Zampini says "Seconds later, another MiG-21 crossed the line of fire of the F-4C Phantom “Rambler 02” and was apparently destroyed by a Sparrow fired by its pilot, Lawrence Glynn". These exact words, and more, appear in the article you have written here. How much else is copied? The images you have uploaded belong to someone else, and unfortunately cannot be used on Wikipedia. They will be deleted. Please see the Image use policy. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 03:29, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

whoa whoa whoa hold it there big guy
i sited my work so i cant have that article being deleated for copyright work, if u want me to cite it on the article i will gladly do it
just spare this one please Tu-49 02:59, 18 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
Whether this is a copyright violation or not, the whole page may be better suited for Wikibooks. I've removed the sections with long quotes which are clearly violating the copyright at http://www.acepilots.com/vietnam/olds_bolo.html. I'm also deleting the images which you either marked as having created yourself or marked as being freely distributable through GFDL. They are neither. You should probably look through the policies and procedures of Wikipedia and maybe see what other people do. That's how I got started and it worked well. — Wknight94 (talk) 14:33, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

damnit listen to me that site was the only one i found that had quotes from the battle pilots them selves. it would be wise to keep them there becuase they will proveide a first hand veiw of the battle for future readers! Tu-49 14:36, 19 November 2006 (UTC)!Reply

I hear you and I understand your frustration. Take a look through the various articles inside Category:Military operations. I looked through at random and found Operation Prime Chance and Operation Seagull II which seem like fairly good representations of what a military operation Wikipedia article should be. You'll notice that there is not a lot of drama and almost no direct quotes. Like I said, what you seem to be going for is a book and might be better suited for Wikibooks. What we have here is an encyclopedia which is more geared towards stating collected facts and giving information, not presenting a dramatic story. You might also want to ask for assistance and good examples at WT:MILHIST. — Wknight94 (talk) 14:52, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

First, the article should be wikified.
Second, there is Wikipedia:Peer review which should give you better suggestions.

Copyright again edit

Hi Tu-49. You really need to stop uploading pictures you have found on a website somewhere. It is normally a violation of the law, as well as a violation of Wikipedia's policy on copyright. Listen to this - a lot of works produced by US service personnel in the course of their duties are in the public domain and therefore usable on Wikipedia, but, and this is the important bit, you need to find the source for the picture - ie you need to show that a US service personnel took the picture in the course of their duties. Please, please, don't make up licences for the pictures because they will be deleted. You would probably want to use a template like {{PD-USGov-Military-Air Force}} or one from the list at {{USAtags}} when you find such a picture. But you must provide a source for the picture so that others can check who actually owns the copyright in the picture. Please note you can find out about image syntax at WP:XIMG. Thanks. -- zzuuzz (talk) 23:47, 25 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

The problem isn't that you know where it is from. It's that the picture is under copyright by the photographer. You didn't ask him for permission to use the image, and as such, it is an illegal use of copyrighted material. If you could find the photographer, and get his permission, then it would be all right. But we don't have his permission.--LWF 02:12, 8 December 2006 (UTC)Reply

The website you got this from says regarding its copyrights

All information presented on this site, in whole or in part, may not under any circumstances be copied, reverse engineered, resold, redistributed or used on an Internet site for purposes of any kind without prior written permission from respective copyright holders. Any rights not expressly granted herein are reserved.

Because this image is not used in any articles, we cannot include it even under the doctrine of fair use. For this reason, I have tagged it to be deleted as an image with an incorrect copyright tag. Frankly, I can't think of any fair use justification for this image, since we have many other free images of the phantom of much better quality. Karl Dickman talk 19:29, 17 December 2006 (UTC)Reply
