Proposed WikiProject: Leather History

I propose to start a new WikiProject that documents Leather History as outlined by the Leather History Timeline created for the Leather Archives and Museum.

First, we would copy the timeline (with the LA&M's permission) to Wikipedia. Second, we would create articles to support the timeline. Thirdly, we would add articles to fill in gaps in the timeline.

I would like to delete this page and replace it with a redirect for International Mr Leather (upper case) which would cover more of the redirects. Please note: a) you did not need to delete the article - you should have simply changed it; b) the correct redirect was already there to International Mister Leather. I am glad you like the BDSM/leather flag and userbox, I drew it myself from a copy of a little picture :)

I think it would be a better idea to have a "BDSM wikiproject" or "fetish wikiproject" (fetish wikiproject could be better but then we could also get unwanted people as well as being an easier target for prudes

LGBT Template

If you don't mind too much, I'd rather stick to just replacing the various older Gay & LGBT boxes with the new "Bisexuality series" boxes on all the Bi articles I can locate and then also making sure each article also has the "LGBT Project" box on each discussion page. changes to gay games site

I see your changes and appreciate your rationale for them. From my perspective, removing the substance of the speeches denies readers any sense of substance and story arc that took place on the field; leaving simply an index. This is, imho, not "encyclopedic." I guess you are in control or something, so I'm not going to battle you; although I think you are depriving people of some powerful words.

I trust your leaving my name out of the article was an oversight, and have replaced it. Having given up an entire year of my life to make this happen, and it being my concept in the first place, I don't think such acknowledgment of that is out of place, yes?

Did you see the messages I left for you on your talk page and in the article's Discussion/talk page? As I wrote there, I removed the content because it appeared to be copyrighted. (Copyrighted material cannot be included in Wikipedia unless it is cleared.)

Also, full text of speeches is not encyclopedic. Encyclopedias do not document primary source material. Instead, they summarize it. See WP:NOT. However, there is an appropriate place for speeches (if they are not copyrighted or are "fair use") -- our sister project, Wikisource.org. Why don't you put it there and link to the speeches from Wikipedia? I think that would be a great addition.

further corrections to Gay Games Page

Marc,

I have clarified another inaccuracy. The ceremonies were not a tribute to Tom Waddell (any more than the fact of the Games, themselves, are in a way such a tribute); though, there is always a segment of Tribute to Tom as proscribed in the Federation's Guidelines for Protocol and Ceremony (which I wrote) and is a part of the contracts with successive Host Committees. This year, that tribute was in the form of a film that featured the words of Dr. Waddell, spoken by about twenty out, gay and lesbian athletes -- some olympians -- immediately prior to the presentation of the Tom Waddell Cup on the field by Greg Louganis. As far as that goes, I directed that film, as well.

As to your assertion that the fact of my directing these ceremonies is "irrelevant," I begin to get the sense that this resistance to my inclusion in this segment is more personal than professional. Throughout wikipedia, authors and directors of theatrical presentations are cited. This is no different. If it is relevant to cite the choreographers, performers and speakers -- most of whom accepted the invitation to work on these ceremonies in response to direct invitation from me, the Director -- it would be equally relevant to cite the man who developed the concept, wrote and directed the experience. Just as Andrew Lloyd Webber is cited as the author of the musical "Phantom of the Opera," this is entirely relevant.

I take your point of referencing copy of the speeches and lyrics through wikipedia's "sister" site, and will investigate the facilitation of that when I can get the time. My concern is that some very powerful words were spoken on that field, and I would hate to see them lost or unavailable to those not present. My original motivation for adding this segment to wikipedia was so that those powerful and moving speeches might not be forgotten.

Oh, and btw, Keith Boykin did not "read from" Exhortation to a Weary Army," he delivered it. "Exhortation..." was, again, a concept of mine that I asked Keith to write within parameters and with the purposes I shared with him. He took this project on, and through our collaboration came the copy he delivered on July 15. This was the same process that yielded the words of Kate Clinton, David Cornell and Suzanne Westenhoeffer -- all this is certainly verifiable. To that, I have the successive copies of these speeches as we developed them.

Rather than do all of this through interminable emails and "chats," please feel free to contact me by phone (all that info is on my website), and I can offer you anything you need for verification. I am open to and would be happy to speak with you, so that any confusion can be cleared up and any miscommunication or misunderstanding can be avoided. Please do avail yourself of this.

Same-sex marriage in Spain

Hey there, Just saw you had rated the article Same-sex marriage in Spain as B-Class. Seeing as we're aiming to get it to GA status, I'd like to know what you thought about it and why the low mark. A great effort was done to make it as NPOV as possible (by both supporters and non-supporters of the law) and make it well-sourced and referenced. *Grin* Ah okay, I'm sorry, I guess I just skimmed the rates, and I saw that a B meant that it was okay but possibly POV or badly sourced and in need of great work, so I got somewhat concerned! :) I should have read that only articles granted GA status can reflect a GA rating. Sorry, my bad. I'm trying to get it to GA status right now, but I'm afraid there's a massive backlog at the candidates page (it's been there waiting for 15 days now...). Anyway, thanks for saying it has the stuff to become a GA. And of course, any ideas you'd like to contribute so that this may happen would be greatly appreciated (obviously, the final goal would be to make it a FA, so any and all ideas to develop the article towards this end are most welcome!).
