You've probably gotten so many of these by now that your head will explode with this one, but I can't help it. Good work! AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 02:13, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
  • Thanks, AutomaticStrikeout. Some folks would opine that I could a bit of head-explosion. I don't agree but await consensus. See ya 'round Tiderolls 03:03, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
No problem. Could you take a look here? I think something is amiss, but I don't want to break 3RR. Thanks, AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 04:03, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
First, I would be very careful regarding continuously reverting an editor that is discussing their edits. The edits would have to be unquestionable vandalism, BLP vios or copyright problems. This IP's edits do not fit those categories. I think the IP is wrong, but being wrong is not vandalism. I'll leave them a message. Tiderolls 04:20, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
Ok, but the IP actually did not start discussing the situation until after the reverts had stopped. I'd appreciate your help. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 04:23, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
I understand, but being right in an edit war doesn't make the block easier to accept :^\ Tiderolls 04:28, 28 November 2012 (UTC)
That's why I stopped at two reverts. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 04:31, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for blocking the IP. Would it still be a problem if I reverted again or should I let you restore the content? AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 05:25, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Actually, I'm off to bed. So, I'll leave it to you. AutomaticStrikeout (TC) 05:28, 28 November 2012 (UTC)

Need help with this IP

Hey, need help with this guy [2]. He is making some constructive edits, but he is also making edits that other editors have to keep cleaning up on such as removing the tags and links to pages that are completely fine. He has had warnings from last month but it is a new month and I can't really issue warning for the things he is doing. Obviously he doesn't really care about talking so it is going to be a pain to deal with him down the road. Any ideas on how to deal with this guy? Thanks.--iGeMiNix 17:54, 2 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi, iGeminix. They don't need any more warnings; they either don't care or don't get it. I've left a message requesting that they start responding to the concerns of others. Maybe a non-templating approach will bring them into conversation. I'll watchlist their talk and check their contribs on and off. Unfortunately, I have zero knowledge of the subject that is is the focus of their interest, so a determination of disruption is difficut for me to draw. If you see some blatant or overt problems please raise the issue, either here or at an appropriate noticeboard if I seem absent. Regards Tiderolls 18:22, 2 December 2012 (UTC)
Well, thanks for the help as usual man. Hopefully things can be resolved but if not then oh well.--iGeMiNix 04:27, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Seems like there is another one also. [3] Doing some constructive yet the genre changing is always a burden as they are unsourced and he never gets the message.--iGeMiNix 06:13, 5 December 2012 (UTC)

199.184.205.88

You are correct, I have no interest in the elevation (or much of anything) of Russellville, Arkansas. I did take issue when 199.184.205.88 replaced "Mayor" with "Reverend", mayor and a photograph of the town with a trailer park (of Miami): file:trailerpark.jpg trailer both After these messages on my talk page, 1 2, I suspect the IP was just being disruptive. I did add more information to AIV and the IP was blocked. Thanks for the message and sorry for the trouble. Cheers Jim1138 (talk) 05:49, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Thanks for the follow-up message, Jim. I kind of suspected there was more to the story. See ya Tiderolls 07:04, 3 December 2012 (UTC)

Block error

Hello, Tide. I have found that user Dy824 was marked as blocked, even though the last block (which you placed) should have ended several days ago. It seems likely that this was because your block was dated to end on Thu, 30 Nov 2012, but in fact 30 November was not a Thursday. See block log. I have unblocked the account, but I thought I would warn you to watch out for similar mistakes in the future. (I don't know whether the block would eventually have expired or not.) Boundary 2

There are people using the wiki as a platform to promote the journal. Some important words from a journal-editor on what is a widely held opinion about b2's no submission policy have been deleted. I took it up on the talk page. There's no consensus on it and there's an editor who has a bully/ownership of articles issue (look in the archive of b2 talk). Over-active editors who know the ins and outs of the system don't (necessarily) a consensus make. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.199.210.227 (talk) 00:09, 7 December 2012 (UTC)

Edit to Self Hypnosis

Hello,

You recently undid my edit as listed here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/69.152.40.98

What was not constructive about it? I believe my edit was correct.

69.152.40.98 (talk) 07:26, 12 December 2012 (UTC)69.152.40.98

Edits may be correct and nonconstructive simultaneously. However, my reversion of your edit was a bit hasty and was based on the garbled nature of the lede as a whole. I've made a change there that, hopefully, clears things up. I was not attempting to comment on your abilities as an editor and apologize if that was your perception of my post. Regards Tiderolls 13:37, 12 December 2012 (UTC)

Requesting advice

You’re probably busy what with the holidays and the world ending tomorrow and all, but I would like your advice on my own conduct, specifically regarding incidents like this past one between us. Ignoring the details of this incident, the way I handled it was obviously problematic to you and unsatisfactory to me. So my question is: If a fellow editor does not give information that I believe is necessary in order to take action, and is unresponsive to requests for that information, what is the proper thing to do? In this case I took action anyway, partly out of frustration, but I’m fairly certain that’s not the right answer. What is?

If there is a more appropriate place to ask this type of question, please point me to it; I’m asking you because you unfortunately have first-hand experience with it. Thanks in advance for your answer, and I hope you’re having a merry December. —Frungi (talk) 02:45, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Where should I ask this?

Re this question on my conduct which you removed: again, if there is a more appropriate place to ask it, please tell me where, and I will do so there. It just seemed logical to ask you, as I said. I feel I should also note that I am not looking to continue a previous conversation; I’m asking you to help me become a better Wikipedian. —Frungi (talk) 03:13, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Confusion

I don’t understand. You said that you didn’t have anything against me, aside from the conduct that I’m asking you to help me fix. Why, then, are you deleting my requests for advice without even a “leave me alone and go ask here”? —Frungi (talk) 03:22, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Please stop

If you wish no interaction with me, that seems to contradict the last thing you said to me, but fine—just tell me where I should ask instead, because obviously I don’t know. Otherwise, I would have gone there already. Where should I seek advice on user conduct? —Frungi (talk) 03:31, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Posted on WP:Help desk

Just letting you know that I’ve posted on WP:Help desk to ask for advice. Not sure if that’s the right place to ask or if there’s somewhere preferable, since you refused to help in that regard. —Frungi (talk) 03:49, 21 December 2012 (UTC)

Apparently you have not looked at the histories of the pages I am griping about and I am certain there many that havenot been found yet where snyde comments are made with edits

Regardless of whether capitalization is appropriate or not, the issue is that you are participating in a edit war. Such wars always act to the detriment of the project, and as such are strictly prohibited by policy. When you find yourself in this kind of situation, you must attempt to find concensous for your changes (with input from impartial editors). That way, you can be sure that the changes you wish to make will be accepted as correct by the community. Regards, — Oli OR Pyfan! 01:35, 25 December 2012 (UTC)

You were not insulted; the editor was exhibiting exasperation. I do believe you used the 'F' word as well, so it's a bit late to claim the high road. You are fighting against a consensus and that can be frustrating. Please attempt to listen and learn. Tiderolls 03:28, 26 December 2012 (UTC)

My edits to various articles, including "Trusted system," "Security engineering," and (to make sure that someone, at least, would see it) "Gun control"

I am most assuredly NOT a fan of ad hominem attacks and snark. How would you feel if, every time you endeavor to fix some woefully incorrect material (and, BTW, factual technical material is either correct or incorrect)—availing yourself of your considerable working and teaching experience to present the material in a refreshing, likely-never-seen-before manner—some joker accuses you of adding original research and/or vandalism?

A snark is a Carrollian beast. At any rate, Carroll wrote a poem about it, in which he borrowed from Jabberwock. I don't believe anyone catches a snark, as it is a fiendishly clever and robust beast that evades human efforts and can resist all known forms of torture. Opossums are rather less clever and robust and, in fact, are enchanted by Hostess(TM) Fruit Pies. They seem to prefer apple cinnamon flavour.

Thanks for the info. I would feel as frustrated as you, most likely, when confronted with opposition. Please forgive my chiding manner, I do appreciate your coming here to discuss/explain. Still, try to maintain calm...it's really counterproductive to gnash about and gripe. Tiderolls 22:01, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

SMJ19791

Their are several case within the Major Soccer League expansion, which several future cities are mentioned but shouldn't be, they are pretenders, just a mention of intereset in building a stadium or getting a USL Pro doesn't put them on the MLS radar. The cities to be mention should be true contenders, these are the cities that are truly mentioned several times by league officals. Right now all you need to do say I want an MLS team and then your put on the list. This is wrong. I could say I want a team for Omaha and that I am putting a group together to built a stadium then that gets me on the list. This is wrong. Currently the only future cities recognized by the league are Orlando, New York City, South Florida/Miami, Atlanta and Minneapolis. Just because Sacramento and Pittsburgh are looking into building 4,000 seat stadium doesn't get them on the contenders list. Therefore this list needs to policed properly. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Smj91791 (talkcontribs) 21:55, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

I can see instances where this action would be necessary, but I would hope that you would agree that removal of referenced content is not a matter to be taken lightly. I would advise that you make an attempt to explain your position on the article's talk page. There may exist other viewpoints regarding the content's notability.
