thanks! I've been thinking about it for a while; decided it would be nice to have a simple, easy (and real) name. -- phoebe(brassratgirl)/talk) 18:56, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

You've got a cool name. I really like it. The Transhumanist 19:23, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Special links

Where are all the "Special pages" links, like "My page", documented?

I don't have a clue where to find the syntax for those.

And I've been here over a year!

(sheepish grin)

The Transhumanist 22:23, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

There's a list of all special pages at Special:Specialpages; this includes Special:Watchlist, Special:Contributions and Special:Preferences but oddly not Special:Mypage and Special:Mytalk. These point to the userpage and user talk page, respectively, of the user viewing the page. These two special pages accept subpage paths too, so for example Special:Mypage/monobook.css points to the user's CSS (assuming they're using the default skin), and Special:Mytalk/Archive 1 points to a subpage of their talk page called "Archive 1". Note that, like all Special: pages, the link is always blue even if the page doesn't exist, and sadly #ifexist: doesn't work with them. Thanks – Qxz 19:55, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm looking for the link syntax for those commands. Are they listed anywhere? The Transhumanist 04:19, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I need some serious off-line time

Dweller,

I've been going strong on Wikipedia all month.

Now that the new lesson is up at the VC and the (sidebar) proposals I was working on have run their course, I need a wikibreak.

I would really appreciate it if you and Anthony would watch over the VC while I'm gone, and coach the other participants there. You guys have plenty of experience to pass along, so I have every confidence in you.

The key to coaching is to keep things interesting. You guys are very creative, and you'll do just fine.

I should be back in a couple of weeks or so.

Thank you.

P.S. Since people will continue to post to my talk page even if I put up Wiki-break signs, I'd also appreciate it if you would answer messages there for me. There may be requests for help, info, etc.

P.P.S.: The Rambling Man could help too, if he wants. The Transhumanist 19:21, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Roger, wilco. TRM is a pretty helpful bloke... I'm sure he will do. I'll be offline a bit around Easter time, but I can keep an eye on things. --Dweller 19:23, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wow

OK. I'm honoured. I'll do my very best. Have a terrific break. And when you come back, would you co-nom User:The Rambling Man for admin with me? --Dweller 19:20, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Absolutely. The Transhumanist 19:22, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
P.S. If you could set up my comments about FA as a lesson, I'll get folks working on it. In fact, contributing to FAC debates or even (as I started) at FARC (!) is quite a good task for the coachees. --Dweller 19:27, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

It's set up at User:The Transhumanist/Virtual classroom/Dweller, on Featured Article Candidates. Feel free to change the name if you come up with something better. The Transhumanist 19:49, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

On the lesson, shoot for the 7th of April or right around there. Don't forget to post a notice on the Community Bulletin Board when it's done, and add it to the template "VC lessons". I also post a notice as a message to the Help desk (that's also a great place to ask for proofreading/copy-editing assistance. {{helpme}} is also useful for finding copy editors, and since you'll be helping users learn the ropes with the lesson, someone will generally respond to lend a hand. I hope that helps. Good luck. And have fun. The Transhumanist 19:57, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, man. The Transhumanist , signing out. 20:04, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Will do. Not sure what you meant by "shoot for the 7th of April", but never mind! --Dweller 20:14, 22 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

For posting it. It's moot now though. The Transhumanist 21:06, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem at all, my friend. Have a great WikiBreak, and as much as it pains me to say it, don't hurry back. We all burn out at some point or another, and it's actually expected that a key contributor such as yourself who pledges as much of their time as you do to the project needs a break. Enjoy yourself, and don't you dare come back until you're fully rested :) until then..
Kind regards,

Paytakaran

When I decided to go on my Wikibreak, I had failed to take into account that I'm a mediator for a dispute over the article about Paytakaran (Armenian province). I've stuck around a little longer to make some new posts on the talk page there to help move things along while I'm gone, but in case those do not resolve the matter, I've posted a notice on the talk page there referring them to my substitutes (you guys), and advised them to contact you here on this talk page if they need further assistance.

The main issues revolve around the scope of the article and sources. Your FAC experience should help you immensely in helping to resolve this dispute. I've been maintaining neutrality, and have been restricting my input for the most part to policy clarifications, observations, suggestions, and editing the article according to the prevailing consensus (the participants are restricting their input primarily to the talk page leaving me to do the edits). I have restrained from voting, so please don't take sides, unless you can take both sides to smooth things out. Good luck, and sorry I didn't mention this before. I totally spaced it. Have fun.   I'm outa here! The Transhumanist 08:41, 23 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S.: The proposals and supporting evidence of each side is on a subpage of the talk page there. --TT

Smilies are emoticons.   They are used in the body of messages to express emotion or add emotional impact.   They can be very useful, such as for ensuring that the person to which you are communicating knows when you are joking or not.   The Transhumanist 03:07, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S.: The reason I have them displayed and numbered in my footer, is so that I can easily look them up by number and copy them from my wikicode list in the "comments" at the top of my talk page (in edit mode). The Transhumanist 08:33, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The New Guy

Hello,

I am the new guy, well really I'm The Random Editor, but you get my point. Since you appear to be a rather important wikipedian, I decided to ask you for some advice. Any advice at all, would be welcome. Thanks for your time.

--The Random Editor 03:02, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

From your name I'm guessing you like to edit random articles. Well, here's a very fast way to navigate random articles. If you don't use Firefox yet, you'll need to install it for this trick. Middle-click on random article about 40 to 80 times. This will load a different random article into that many tabs (windows internal to Firefox). Then look over the first article to see if it is one you want to work on or that needs work. Once you are done browsing/editing/saving that article, press Ctrl-F4, and that tab will instantly close and jump you to the next tab/article. You can look over articles very fast this way, pressing Ctrl-F4 to rapidly cycle through them and close each one as you go. I like to describe this method of browsing as BLAM BLAM, BLAM BLAM BLAM! And as User:Interiot once told me: if you're not using tabs and middle-click a lot, you're not moving fast enough. I hope you find this method useful. Eliminating the backlog

I am interested in eliminating the Wikipedia:backlog. I would be quite happy with myself doing that :) I don't think I can do it all by myself, so what project, or group is together that is working on that as a whole, or are we stuck with just each of the sections? Thanks! [Mαc Δαvιs] (How's my driving?) ❖ 20:05, 28 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

The team you are looking for is the Wikipedia:Cleanup Taskforce. Keep in mind that Wikipedia's backlog is huge, and since it is much larger than our current human resources can handle, it calls for a strategic approach. The three most sensible approaches are 1) Recruit more help. 2) Prioritize the cleanup chores. 3) Jump in and help on the most important articles that need it. Anything you can do to implement these strategies would be most helpful.
Recruiting can be done by regularly posting provocative notices and calls for help to the various notice boards and forums, and on Wikipedia's IRC channels. My suggestion for the highest priority pages are Wikipedia's core articles, and articles with a high importance rating as designated by the Wikiprojects the articles belong to. Or plain old common sense: pick the most important subjects you can think of, and dive in. And remember, have fun.   The Transhumanist 03:41, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi.

Hi. Not sure if you're back or not, but I'm going to be around rather less for the next few days. Sorry if our wikibreaks are overlapping. RL interferes too much. --Dweller 18:38, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Problem is, I haven't really left yet. But I have a big project in the real world looming, and as I get into it, I won't be able to devote much time here for awhile. It may last a couple of weeks or even a couple of months. But I'll pop-in when I can, and I'll definitely be back. Thanks for agreeing to fill-in for me. I really appreciate it. The Transhumanist 03:16, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi, I fixed an HTML tag for one of your menus. And I stole it and modified it for my own page :) Thanks for your user page design section; it's been helpful. --Kshieh 21:39, 29 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the fix. And I'm glad you found the UPDC useful. I like how you made use of the menu. Nice user page. The Transhumanist 03:14, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Re: Qxz

No. I'm sorry, but I protected that page for a reason. I regard Qxz's repeatedly stated wish not to be pestered as primary to your desire to post a message. I will gladly unprotect the talk page if Qxz makes a request. Please don't take this personally. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 04:44, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Please direct me to the policy or precedent on protecting talk pages. As far as I know, talk pages are not supposed to be protected. It circumvents their very purpose. I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist 04:56, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Perhaps the most relevant pages are meta:Right to vanish & meatball:RightToLeave. I am not inclined to enter an argument about the philosophy behind talk pages, although there is an ongoing discussion here. If you are looking for some way to contest this protection, I suggest you make a request at WP:RPP. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:09, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Wikipedia provides a way to vanish. One can cancel his user account and have it deleted at anytime. There is no precedent that I know of for blocking a talk page, except in the case of vandalism, and then only as a last resort. See WP:UP#Use of page protection for user pages. The Transhumanist 05:24, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
That is your interpretation, and I respect that. This administrative action was made after some deliberation, and I believe that I followed the spirit of Wikipedia policy by respecting Qxz's request to be left alone. My actions are, of course, subject to the review of other users and may be overruled by any administrator. I have no desire to engage in any sort of wheel-war. However I do wish that you would consider whether your actions are in Qxz's best interests, or merely your own. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 05:31, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
My interest is to reach out to Qxz. The Transhumanist 05:39, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just wondering, how many pages do you intend to copy this to? Must be a matter of vital importance that demands everybody's immediate attention... ˉˉanetode╦╩ 06:25, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I posted it to the village pump for the community to discuss it, so we might have a consensus to go by for future cases. You don't object do you? The Transhumanist 06:30, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
No, but I have stopped beating my wife. Anyway, User talk:Qxz was unprotected by an admin in response to the WP:RPP request, I'm sure you can go ahead and post your comment to Qxz now. ˉˉanetode╦╩ 06:46, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't understand your comment. All my posts preceded the unprotection. And the unprotection was only part of my request. Both ANB and VPP are better places for getting clarification on a policy, don't you agree? I'm still interested in reading what others have to say about the user talk page protection issue, in case it ever comes up again. The Transhumanist 07:59, 30 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
P.S.: Would you have stopped beating your wife if she hadn't left you?   -TT

Userpage design updating

Hello, I'm honoured that you picked my userpage as one of many that are well-designed or at least interesting. I just wanted to point out that I've changed accounts, from User:Tachikoma to User:Kyoko, because I'm not used to being called "Tachikoma" and it began to irritate me. I suggest looking at my more recent page revisions, which I think are much better than the one you have featured. While you're at it, User:Kyo cat (who is also listed in your gallery) is now User:Tohru Honda13, so you might check her page for updates too. Thanks again. --Kyoko 19:56, 8 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello

Hi there. I also took an unexpected Wikibreak as RL interfered. I gave your active students some tasks, as you'll see. TRM and I are about to resume work on our current FA project, which is getting close, but I'm happy to work up the lesson with or without his aid. Blnguyen's also given me some extra tasks at my editor review... and I'm also broadening my XfD experience, so it'll be a few weeks I'd guess. Is that OK? Stylistically, do you want it to follow a proforma? --Dweller 07:42, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks. Now that I'm back, your first assignment is to finish the lesson on Featured Article Candidates. I'm very interested in and look forward to reading the rest of your insights into that process. Also, The Rambling Man expressed a desire to help you finish the lesson. When will the lesson be finished by? The Transhumanist 21:48, 17 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Great. I'll endeavour to finish it in the next couple of days. You'll have noticed that it developed quite a bit yesterday. My horse-loving friend is quite tied up with his Italian football articles at the moment, but if I ask him nicely, I'm sure he'll chip in (as he has already). I'm a little torn between keeping it very focussed on the process of successfully delivering an article to FA and broadening it to include related useful material, that's slightly less relevant, but is instructional to your students. I'm working hard to ensure the balance seems right. Incidentally, did you like my sandbox? There's room for your contribution there. --Dweller 09:22, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It looks very good. Okay, it's on to proofreading/copyediting. (I've gotten through about a fourth of it, and will do more as time permits). In the meantime, your new assignment is to find some copyeditors for your lesson (to proofread it, correct it, improve it, etc.). Good places to post notices for this might be the Peer review talk page, Today's featured article talk page, FAC talk page, and related talk pages. And since Raul is mentioned in the lesson, it would be a good idea to inform him of this fact and ask him to look it over. The Transhumanist

I'm kind of burnt out for the day. I've been trying to catch up in all areas (Paytakaran, doling out Virtual classroom assignments, etc.). And I still need to work on Dweller's FAC lesson (I promised him I'd help copy-edit it, and I encourage you to help too!). Also, co-coach, things are picking up in the VC coaching section, in case you are interested!  :) I've just promoted Dweller to full coach status, so he's officially a co-coach now too (assuming he accepts). The both of you should feel free to bring new students to the VC who you feel are advanced enough for the coaching there. The key things (IMHO) to look for in wiki-students are enthusiasm, dedication, and compassion for others (selflessnes and courteous demeanor). We have room for a couple more students, since some of our current students are on wikibreak. If you select one, and Dweller selects another, we'll be full again. The Transhumanist 23:51, 21 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
And thank you for sitting in for me at Paytakaran. I'm back, so will see if I can begin pushing that forward again. The Transhumanist
Don't you go stretching yourself! It's fine - it's just a quick brainstorm, in the form of an RfA; I'll do some copyediting at the lesson now. anthony[review] 00:55, 22 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Though it isn't that hard, and I'm sure you could come up with a cooler page than me (I adapted mine from another user's page by copying it and then changing it). Check out the User Page Design Center (there's a link in my menu at the top of this page) for design elements you can add to your user page. There's lots of example user pages there too. Good luck. The codes to the smileys are in the wikitext on this page, twice - once for display, and once in comments for convenient cutting and pasting. You could cut and paste both sets to your user page. Have fun. The Transhumanist 20:02, 29 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

You're not an admin? Would you like a mop? I can't think of a worthier candidate! --Dweller 07:37, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I nominated myself about 5 months ago, and totally bombed. I wouldn't mind having a mop, though I'm not in a hurry to face the RfA firing squad again.  :) Having access to the tools might provide insight useful in training others to become admins, and for improving administrative instructional pages. And I'd like to start adding tips on their use at the Tip of the day project - having the tools would provide a better frame of reference for that too. But there's no rush. I'm happy helping others prepare for the mop. The Transhumanist 19:07, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Admin coach

I accept this honour. I'm going to look for a student to bring to the VC. I'll also help with the existing crew, as during your Wikibreak (before I went on mine!) --Dweller 11:40, 23 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Cool. Welcome aboard. There's a backlog over at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Requests. Another good place to look is Wikipedia:Editor review. Make sure you look over their contribs (and edit-count) before offering Admin-coaching assistance -- this will tell you how serious they are. Also, see the coaching instructions at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Coaching methods. Keep in mind that the VC is for coaching in general, so keep your offer of assistance in context with the needs and desires of the student (and where you found them) -- not everyone who wants coaching wants to be an admin. User page help

Hi Transhumanist, I must say I enjoyed your user page help section, however its a little more than what I'm thinking for mine. I just have a couple questions, 1) what's the code for changing your user page colour and 2) how do you change your user page font. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks.   Croat Canuck Go Leafs Go 17:37, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, you can't change the color of the whole page, but you can create a section which includes most of the page, and format the color of that. Basically you create a (borderless) box, starting with <div> and ending with </div>. Inbetween, you include the inline CSS codes with which you wish to format your page, like this:

<div style="background:BurlyWood; font-family:serif;">
content of your page goes here
</div>

I'm not sure which fonts the MediaWiki software supports, but I do know it supports serif, sans-serif, and cursive.
Various web colors can be found at Web colors.
I hope that helps.

Coaching?

I was wondering if I could coax you into accepting me as a student through the Admin Coaching project? Until I hear back I will be in the VC looking around. I'll check back here for your reply. Thanks JodyB 21:24, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I respectfully decline. While going over your superb contributions, it became immediately apparent that you already have a firm grasp of the nature of Wikipedia and its operations. Therefore, your efforts would be better applied as a coach, and I hereby invite you to step up to that challenge and help me and the other co-coaches at the VC. Trust me, you will learn a great deal by being a coach (I did, and still am - I also skipped straight to coaching). If you need help in this capacity, feel free to ask me or the other co-coaches at the VC (Anthony and Dweller). I'm sure they will be delighted to have you on the team. Keep in mind that we are all also available via email. If you accept, be sure to see the coaching instructions at WP:ADMINCOACH and to sign up as an admin coach there (on the volunteers page). I hope you accept, and I look forward to seeing you as a co-coach at the VC. Sincerely, The Transhumanist 22:01, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for your kind words. I will seriously consider coaching. I have always heard it said that you never really know anything until you can teach it. In the meantime, I will accept your offer to give advice when needed. Thank you! JodyB 22:18, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Just say yes. When it comes time for you to become an admin, I will nominate you myself. In the meantime, be a co-coach, and focus on the Wikipedia namespace (your Wikipedia namespace edit count is kind of low). And be sure to read all the lessons and coaching advice at the VC (this doesn't have to be done overnight). Once you've finished reading, find a potential student or two, and offer to be their coach (but read the coaching instructions at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Coaching methods first), and if they accept your terms, set up sections for them at the VC. So my question is...
Are you in? The Transhumanist
Yes, I am in! A couple of questions though. When you say co-coach do you mean pair up with someone who's experienced, observe and assist? Who would you suggest? Second, I've noticed some comments at RfA about low counts on the Wikipedia name space. What's a good rule of thumb there? FYI, I am reading your list of materials at the VC and I am reading through the Administrator's reading list. I've popped into a couple of discussions, one at Third Opinion and one at the Mediation Cabal. Please continue to offer your suggestions. I take them seriously. I am marking your page to watch so you shouldn't be bothered with replying to my page. Again, thanks for your help. JodyB 02:56, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hi Jody. I'm going to post to your talk page. --Dweller 11:04, 2 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Jody, what I mean is that you will be a full-fledged admin coach, but since you will be training students at the VC, all coaches there (including me) are co-coaches, because there's more than one of us.  ;) Basically, the VC is a place where coaches share all their students, and students share the coaches there, and where students and coaches teach each other - it's a group learning environment. You'll be "paired up" with the rest of the team, which currently includes myself, Anthony, and Dweller. There's no cut and dried figure for Wikipedia namespace experience, but 1000 is a good round number. But don't worry, once you get into it, you'll accumulate thousands of Wikipedia namespace edits before you realize what's happened. Learn the ropes for awhile, and then bring a student to the VC. Instructions for coaching (including recruiting methods), and a list of requests for coaches, can be found at WP:ADMINCOACH. Welcome aboard, and have fun. WikiProject Health

Hi there. I was wondering if you might know what is going on with the WikiProject Health?? It seems that you are the only participant currently signed up for it- and it looks like you signed up/started it over a year ago? I am very interested in health and wikis (see my user page and would like to see this effort come alive in some form. Any information you have on this would be much appreciated. Thanks! --TinyE 22:12, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

There's nothing going on with WikiProject Health as a project (team effort) per se, except that it is currently serving as a health topic resource page. I created the page so that health-minded individuals would have a page through which to meet, and it has finally worked! (Now that I've met you). As a WikiProject, it may also provide a forum in which its members can collaborate.
Though as the only "member", you could say that the WikiProject's activities have been my activities concerning health over the past year or so. Toward the development of health coverage on Wikipedia, I created the Health portal, the List of basic health topics, and the List of life extension related topics, expanded the coverage of Nootropics, worked on the article Life extension, and improved or created some articles related to Suicide (such as Suicide crisis) and other crisis-related topics (such as Help). I also added health sections to most of Wikipedia's main contents pages (List of overviews, Lists of topics, Lists of basic topics, List of glossaries, Portal:List of portals, and Wikipedia:Categorical index, and added it (along with the heart icon) to the menu of each of those pages. I was also instrumental in getting Contents added to Wikipedia's main menu (located in the sidebar on the lefthand side of the screen of every user who uses the default skin: "monobook"). That page has each of the main contents pages displayed across its top, providing through those easy access to all of Wikipedia's main subject categories, including health.
Note that I haven't pushed the WikiProject platform (with recruiting drives, etc.) because I was busy helping to develop Wikipedia's "top end" (its navigation pages), and because health is developing quite nicely on Wikipedia without it, and also because WikiProjects have started adding a layer of bureaucracy to Wikipedia (with article ranking systems, for instance, which I see as a total waste of time). But as a focal point for team effort, such as collaborations on the creation and editing of specific key articles, I would love to see something get started with Wikipedia:WikiProject Health. Perhaps we could start on the scientific method as it relates to health research and treatment information. The Transhumanist 21:18, 20 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Transhumanist- Thanks for your comprehensive response. Amazing work you have done to get visibility for the health category on Wikipedia. I especially like your addition of the heart as the health icon on all menu pages. It is clear from reading over your list of overall contributions that you are a "Get-things-done-project-person" here. Your experience in this arena is appealing and motivating for me. I would like to get a better idea of what next steps you have in mind for the WikiProject Health. I do not have an MD background but my passion for the sharing of health information should allow me to add value. Let's start with what you are alluding to here: What is the "scientific method" that you refer to? Feel free to pass on any additional specifics of your vision and/or guidelines. --TinyE 07:15, 25 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thank you. Scientific method is a set of procedures used in science and by scientific researchers in verifying discoveries as knowledge and differentiating them from mere speculation and belief. It is the practical application of epistemology, and relies heavily on statistical theory. In the health sciences, a variation of scientific method involving double-blind placebo-controlled studies is used. It is not the only route to such knowledge, but it is the most politically supported (being entrenched in US federal regulations). There are many issues pertaining to these subjects which are not currently covered on Wikipedia, or covered sufficiently. I wouldn't mind joining a team of editors involved with researching and writing on this area, even if that team only has two people - but, I wish to complete efforts on the "help me" (crisis-related articles) project first -- see menu at top of this page. If you are interested in helping me with that (as it is very health-related), please let me know. The Transhumanist 21:30, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks for your kind words on my recent success at RFA. Thank you for your generous co-nomination with Dweller, and for your support throughout. So, onto business. (1) Coach, yes, anytime. (2) When would you consider the aforementioned Dweller ready for RFA? I'm a co-nom no matter what, or, indeed, I'll prepare the nom entirely and you can co-nom as and when you're ready? Let me know either way, and also what I can do in the coaching regime. Best wishes, and once again, my sincerest thanks. The Rambling Man 19:11, 3 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

On the coaching front, please sign up at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Volunteers, then read the instructions at Wikipedia:Admin coaching/Coaching methods. Then go find a couple students and bring them to the VC.  :)
Like you, Dweller has been ready for months.  :-) But he's got a lesson in the pipeline (it's in the proofreading/copy-editing stage and is almost ready to post), so it makes sense to wait until after his lesson goes live, as it displays his acumen on featured articles. I would definitely like to write the nom, though everyone involved including me will be co-noms, of course. I've set up a sandbox page for his RfA at User:The Transhumanist/Dweller nomination sandbox.

Colourful Signature

You replied for my previous one and gotta another question. How we get a colourful signature like yours please reply for this thanks

--Frans Adiesha 11:00, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are a number of ways to do this, depending on how elaborate your signature is. One is to click the "raw signature" box in "my preferences", and fill in the signature field with a colorful signature -- you can copy and paste the code from someone else's signature, and modify it to spell your nym instead. Unfortunately, I can't minimize my code (character count) doing that due to a bug, and therefore I use a macro to insert my name while I'm typing -- that way my sig's wiki-code is shorter. Another way is to simply copy and paste the code of your signature from your talk page every time you need it. To select different colors, see Web colors, but make sure that your colors don't blend into the backgrounds on users' talk pages -- make them dark enough that they show up on all pages, otherwise you will get complaints. I've also found that 3-digit color codes do not show up on some implementations of Windows with Internet Explorer (the signature shows up as black), but this problem went away with 6-digit color codes. To make sure that your signature looks the same to everyone, you will need to look at it from several computers (or ask around), and from several browsers (IE, Firefox, Safari, Opera, etc.) If you do a lot of graphical page layout (borders, colors, etc., such as on Portal pages, you should have several browsers installed for wikicode testing anyways. Good luck, and I hope these pointers help. The Transhumanist 19:00, 4 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:List guideline repeat POV addition

On 03:57, 6 August 2006 as Polar Deluge, you posted what I've termed a warning to jossi about unconsensed POV additions to Wikipedia:List guideline. Unfortunately he has repeated this behavior. What he did was actually more serious, but I'm giving him a chance to back off of his forced addition of the unconsensed "List contents" section before taking him to WP:AN, where he would also face ethics charges.

In the mean time, the actual content he wants added was specifically written to take down "List of groups referred to as cults", of which he was the original VfD/AfD opponent. I think his motive is that he belongs to an organization that has been referred to as a cult.

As I read his unconsensed text, all lists containing any significant degree of other peoples' opinions and value judgments (not Wikipedia's) could be deleted, which I find to be a monumental tampering with Wikipedia content. Opinions are central to the interpretation of history. A list of such interpretations could be deleted by, for example, nationalists with whom Wikipedia already has a huge problem in their suppression of unfavorable reporting. A list of opinions by scientists who agree or disagree about the reality of global warming could be taken down. It goes on and on.

In the second paragraph, the idea that any one item in a list must be a "widely held opinion" breaks new ground on disallowing otherwise reliable sources, barely to mention the illogic of mandating discovery of widely held opinions after deprecating opinions in the first paragraph.

I hope you will participate in rolling back this hastily concocted power grab at Wikipedia_talk:List_guideline#List_contents. Milo 19:37, 5 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I think your posts and reversion were helpful. jossi is standing by for the moment. But a new problem is that Crum375 is persistently restoring the unconsensed text. You know more about WP:Consensus than I do. What are the available options? Do you know another WP:List guideline editor that thinks the 8,000 list impact of this unconsensed edit needs prompt intervention? The new text is already threatening to take down "List of groups referred to as cults", via another member of a listed group. Milo 14:49, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
The proper procedure is to bring the discussion to a wider participation base. Post the issue at Village Pump: Policy, with a link to Wikipedia_talk:List_guideline#List_contents. Also place notices on relevant notice boards, like the WP:CBB, WP:RFC, etc., and on relevant talk pages Talk:Lists of basic topics, Talk:Lists of topics, etc. And rather than posting a report at WP:ANB, posting a question there (with a link to the debate you are referring to) is more appropriate. Like "what is the proper procedure for...?" Wider consensus requires participation by more people, and for that to happen, they must be made aware of the debate. But be careful not to canvass. Your announcements should be neutral, and ask for participation in general. "There is a debate on ____ at _____." Good luck. The Transhumanist 20:52, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thanks for the advice. Milo 01:20, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Emergency

Hi there. I know you have shown an interest in the debate as to whether Emergency should be an article or a dab page. I have now created an article which I believe would be suitable for the 'Emergency' page, with everything else to be moved out to a separate disambiguation page. My suggested article is here (in my name space), and the debate as to whether this will be suitable is on the Talk:emergency page. I would appreciate you input! Just a few words...

TT, my friend, my mop would never have been gained without your incredible expertise. My kindest regards to you, and drop by as often as possible! Now, a little token of my appreciation...

My kindest possible regards,
Anthony 21:38, 6 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've left a question for you at the virtual classroom.

Looking forward to your reply! Extranet talk 02:21, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

That nomination

So, I've added some detail in your sandbox. Let me know what your think and when you fancy transcluding the whole shabang. The Rambling Man 21:04, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Will do. We should make the nomination once Dweller's lesson on FAC has been posted at the VC, as it displays his expertise, which should be referenced at his RfA. His lesson is in the last stages of proofreading/copy-editing, and so it shouldn't be long now. The Transhumanist 21:14, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've read your nom, and all it needs is a closing sentence, and your sig. (Also, be sure to date stamp it once you've transcluded, when that time comes). The Transhumanist 21:21, 7 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Closing sentence and sig added. Let me know when we're ready to offer it up! The Rambling Man 07:26, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Can I be a pain and add a co-nom? Ryan Postlethwaite 12:36, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yes, most certainly. I'm sure Dweller will be honored. The Transhumanist
I don't see that as a pain, three-way co-nom, all good! The Rambling Man 21:59, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Why thank you then boys! I'll add my nom tomorrow, it's the 3-man dream team! Ryan Postlethwaite 23:00, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
OK, but you might want to hold it to three co-noms as some RFA junkies vote against candidates with "excessive co-noms".
--Richard 23:04, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I don't think 3 is obsesive, we've all offered nominations seperately without knowing each other had, I doubt it will be an issue. Ryan Postlethwaite 23:08, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Co-nom added. Ryan Postlethwaite 11:08, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
You going to invite Dweller to be an admin now...? The Rambling Man 20:30, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
It would me my honour to present the invitation...! The Rambling Man 20:40, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
By all means. (I left the first spot for whoever posted the commented-out vote in the discussion section), and will sign after you do. ;-) -TT 20:42, 9 May 2007 (UTC)

FAC lesson

Hi TT. I've made my final amends, following the various comments at the talk page. I've posted to Raul asking for clarification on the issue that Bishonen raised - if / when Raul clarifies, I'll need to alter the text to reflect the status, but I'm happy for the lesson to "go live" in the interim, as I believe I've balanced the two opinions reasonably well. One last thing... I'm wondering if the article should be moved into Wikipedia space with other essays and then transcluded to the VC? --Dweller 11:02, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Because the lesson is personalized, with your name in the title, it is more appropriate to host it in the user namespace.  ;) I'll give the lesson one last read through, and will then "take it live". Won't take long... The Transhumanist 23:28, 8 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. On that subject, have you seen Wikipedia:Dweller's Sri Lankan cricket team test? lol --Dweller 08:49, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Potential new recruits

I've spotted two on the request list whom I have encountered in the past and have thought well of. I think they have excellent potential, so have extended invitations to User:Evadb and User:SMcCandlish. --Dweller 08:48, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I look forward to grilling, uh, er, I mean meeting them. The Transhumanist 20:48, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I Just Wanted To Say Thank You

Thank you for helping me on the knowledge of what should be included in my J.R. and Babe article. I'm working on it right now, and it will soon be up to policy standards, I hope. Flyer22 00:11, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

You are welcome. And good luck! The Transhumanist 00:14, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

RfA

Hello. Thanks so much for the kind words. I've gratefully accepted. Here goes... Incidentally, as usual, I'll be unable to edit much over the weekend, so optional questions posted then may go unanswered for a couple of days. As they're optional, that shouldn't be a big deal, but I would like to respond promptly to any and all that get thrown at me. After all, I see the RfA as a great opportunity for receiving feedback. --Dweller 10:06, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm sure you'll do fine. The Transhumanist 19:15, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've been inadvertantly blocked

Please unblock me. I'd appreciate it. (Shared IP). The Transhumanist 19:24, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

You only need to place one of the unblock templates but you do need to give us full information. I can't guess your IP or the block which is stopping you editing. --pgk 19:33, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
I'm at a library. I'll ask a librarian what the IP is, and I'll be right back... --TT 19:36, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
The instructions for getting unblocked were not very clear. Where do I find the "block" information you referred to? -TT 19:38, 10 May 2007 (UTC)
Okay, it says "Your IP address is 66.212.71.163, and your block has been set to expire: 23:52, 9 November 2007" The block was done by User:Voice of All. -TT 19:41, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Appears to have been blocked as a range used extensively for sockpuppeting. I'll block the IP itself as anon only for a few hours which will enable you to edit. --pgk 19:48, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
See if you can edit now. --pgk 19:50, 10 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Don't know. Time ran out on that account. I'm at another location now. Thank you for your help. I'll find out tomorrow if it worked. -TT 23:09, 10 May 2007 (UTC)

A rather late RfA thanks!

Good evening (GMT time) The Transhumanist; I'd like to thank you for supporting, opposing, commenting, nominating, reading, editing, promoting and/or anything else that you may have done for my successful request for adminship. As a result of the discussion, I'm pleased to inform you that I'm now a Administrator! I've already been making use of my new tools, so if there's anything I can do, give me a shout!
Kindest regards,
Anthony 22:26, 12 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'm back

I'm back from wikibreak, although I won't be editing as much, I can still slightly participate in the VC. Nol888(Talk)(Review me please) 12:25, 13 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

New question at the VC

A flavour

Hi TT. Can you do me a flavour? See ALoan's comment at the foot of Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Bill O'Reilly (cricketer). I suspect you're not a cricket expert... am I right? If so, a review from you (warts and all) would be excellent. --Dweller 15:34, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I'll take a look. Glad to be of help. The Transhumanist 15:38, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Cheers. I presume you're "in progress" and the appearance of your sig will show that you're done! Glad you mentioned you're cricket-ignorant. Helpful. --Dweller 16:09, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yep. Added another observation. Done for now. Cheers. The Transhumanist 16:48, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Help me 2

Hi, just wondering could you move User talk:The Transhumanist/Help me to User talk:The Transhumanist/Help me 2 so that all the info/discussion is kept together? Thanks :) --Quiddity 19:06, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

No worries. I'm glad you caught that. Instead, I've created the new version's talk page, and provided a link to the previous version's discussion. I believe that all of the objections in that discussion have been addressed in the nature of the new version, but if you believe otherwise, please feel free to bring up any points you may have on the new talk page, and I will be happy to address each and revise the page accordingly. Let me know if it is NPOV enough. By the way, I've tracked down the discussion resulting in the new version, in case you are interested. It's at User talk:The Transhumanist/Archive 3#Community Portal Notice. The Transhumanist 19:41, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
