Thanks for blocking the latest Lucille Ball sock-vandal edit

Should I have reported that to WP:SSP#Reporting_suspected_sock_puppets? I thought that WP:AIV would be ok for such an obvious sock-vandal, but apparently not. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 21:55, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

This is how I spent part of New Year's Day: User talk:Bennbread... so my patience is at the same level (i.e. I'm fresh out). User:Antandrus shut down that sock...but I'm sure there will be more. I'm taking the same whack-a-mole approach as you are; I just have to hope for an available admin whenever a new sock pops up. -- Jim Douglas (talk) (contribs) 22:18, 2 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Protection Error edit

I would like to point out that your protection for Image:Flag of England (bordered).svg was not done correctly. I'm unsure if it was a mistake or if you just didn't know how, but when you protect an image from Commons, you need to make sure you get a Commons admin to protect the page there. Alternatively, you can download the image and upload it locally, and then apply protection as you did in this case. Thanks in advance, and I apologize if you knew about those processes already and this sounded condescending. -- tariqabjotu 23:59, 5 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and by the way, you can add a parameter to the {{mprotected2}} template that says what article is associated with the protected page. For example, for templates transcluded into Ahmose I, you could put {{mprotected|Ahmose I}}. That might make things a little easier for admins looking to unprotect templates in pages no longer on the Main Page, as it gives them an idea of when the associated article was or will be on the Main Page. -- tariqabjotu 00:07, 6 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

contested prod of 3760 B.C. edit

I have removed the {{prod}} tag from 3760 B.C., which you proposed for deletion, because I feel that this article should not be deleted from Wikipedia. I'm leaving this message here to notify you about it. If you still feel the article should be deleted, please don't add the {{prod}} template back to the article. Instead, feel free to list it at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. Thanks! -- Chrislk02 (Chris Kreider) 18:08, 18 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Template:Genesis edit

Hi TexasAndroid, I was wondering how long a template like this one usually stays protected after an article in which it's used is featured on the main page. I'd like to add something to the template. You can see the discussion of that here. Thanks in advance. Robotman1974 14:39, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey, thanks! That was quick. I've read about that particular vandal... it's a real shame that templates have to be locked like that but I guess it's one of the only solutions for now. Happy editing. Robotman1974 15:19, 19 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Long comments for Shortpages edit

Keep in mind for non-maintenance pages like disambiguation pages that can and will warrant textual changes it may be best not to add a long comments to push them off Shortpages. Many of these pages instead need to be expanded with additional items linked or need explanatory descriptions added or birthdate information for persons, or general disambig formatting, etc. —Centrxtalk • 04:13, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am using Shortpages to flesh out these disambiguation pages and other pages. Though, for many of them there is not much that can be done to flesh them out. I am just asking that you consider when you go through them whether there is more you can do to make it a better disambiguation page that facilitates navigation for the reader, rather than just pushing them off. Hopefully we will get to higher and higher bytecounts—it hasn't been up to 91 at least since I've used it in the last seven months—but once you get up to the level of the disambiguation page there is not much vandalism going to be there anyway. So, to some extent it pushes the pages off only to get more of the same kind of page, until eventually we get to those commented-out pages again that could still use improvement. Just something to consider. —Centrxtalk • 16:04, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply
To some extent, there is nothing that can be done to flesh out some of these. There are good and bad parts to adding the long comments, so I myself am divided on the issue. —Centrxtalk • 16:18, 23 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Refectory? edit

Hi TexasAndroid--I am working on Blackfriars Theatre, and I noticed that Refectory has been deleted; I am sorry if I am addressing the wrong person, but the log appears that you deleted it as the result of a PROD. Do you know if there is a way to check the reason for the PROD? I would like to recreate the page, which has more than 50 links to it. I am a novice in this, so I apologize if I am doing something out of process. Jlittlet 01:24, 6 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Split Femur Recordings, deleted. edit

Re:

Split Femur Recordings edit

I have added a "{{prod}}" template to the article Split Femur Recordings, suggesting that it be deleted according to the proposed deletion process. All contributions are appreciated, but I don't believe it satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion, and I've explained why in the deletion notice (see also "What Wikipedia is not" and Wikipedia's deletion policy). You may contest the proposed deletion by removing the {{dated prod}} notice, but please explain why you disagree with the proposed deletion in your edit summary or on its talk page. Also, please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Even though removing the deletion notice will prevent deletion through the proposed deletion process, the article may still be deleted if it matches any of the speedy deletion criteria or it can be sent to Articles for Deletion, where it may be deleted if consensus to delete is reached.

  • Hi, just to let you know that the website for Split Femur Recordings, splitfemurrecordings.com, is now listed in Google, therefore fulfilling the requirement. Can this page be restored or does it need to be created again? Thanks

RSieradzki 01:09, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have restored the article. It was deleted by WP:PROD. Your protest is all it takes to overturn the PROD deletion. PROD is for uncontroversial deletions to save the trouble of the more detailed WP:AFD process. That said, I highly doubt that the company meets notability requirements. Just showing up on Google is not enough. If someone decides to do a full AFD of the article, I suspect it will be deleted, for good this time. - TexasAndroid 12:48, 20 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Hello, thank you for restoring the article. I'm sure the company does meet notability requirements; it's a fully VAT-registered company, received various business grants from government projects and has just pressed its first CD release which is now available to buy on Amazon.co.uk (click here to see).
I appreciate that you're clearing up articles that don't meet Wikipedia's standards; that's a good thing (I try to do it myself when I have the time), however I do not agree with your stance on this article - the noted company is worthy of a wikipedia article.
Thanks again. RSieradzki 19:07, 21 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why the redirect for Alan Russell? edit

Alan Russell and David Allen Russell are two different people from two different centuries in two different professions. The redirect should be deleted. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 130.182.28.177 (talkcontribs)

The fact that there are other Alan/Allen Russells in the world, one of whom happens to be a NASCAR driver, does not invalidate the redirect, IMHO. I'm sure that there are lots of other Alan/Allen Russells out there in other professions as well in this wide world of ours. But at the moment, the only one notable enough to have an article on the project is David Allen Russell. If you feel that Alan Russell, NASCAR driver, is notable enough to have an article, you are welcome to create an account and, after a few days, create the article. It will need to be sourced to show exactly why this Alan Russell is notable enough to have a page on the project. At that point, a disabbig page at Alan Russell between both of them will make sense. At the moment though, just changing the redirect to an unsourced, one line entry about the NASCAR driver is not productive.
If creating an article about the NASCAR driver is not in your skill set (which I fully understand, as I'm no major article author either), or you decide that he's simply not notable enough for a page, you could still try to have the redirect removed. In this case you should follow the proper process for removing bad redirects at WP:RFD. You will need to have a fairly persuasive argument for why the redirect is bad. - TexasAndroid 14:56, 27 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Evolutionary Guidance Media and Dana Klisanin edit

Hello,

I believe the pages created representing Dana Klisanin and Evolutionary Guidance Media have been deleted in error and meet the criteria for notability for the following reasons:

--Referencing the criteria established by Wikipedia: Notability (academics)

Criteria 1 She is regarded as a significant expert in her area of research by the following independent sources: The Journal of Transpersonal Psychology & the International Society for the System Sciences.

Criteria 2 & 5 She is regarded as an important figure (i.e., as a pioneer of a new discipline) by the following independent academics in the field of transpersonal psychology: Bela A. Banathy, Marcie Boucouvales, Dan Gaylinn, J.F. Bugental, Paul Clemens, Jack Engler, James Fadiman, Jorge Ferrer, Daniel Goleman, Elmer Green, Stanislav Grof, Herbert Guenther, Tobin Hart, Michael Hutton, Stanley Krippner, Lawrence LeShan, John Levy, David Loy, Francis Lu, David Lukoff, Michael Mahoney, Micahel Murphy, peter Nelson, Kaisa Puhakka, Huston Smith, Tonu Soidla, Charles Tart, Frances Vaughan, Miles Vich, Jenny Wade Michael Wahburn, John Welwood.

Additionally, the International Society for the Systems Sciences (ISSS) i.e., the oldest organization devoted to interdisciplinary inquiry into the nature of complex systems, has recognized evolutionary guidance media as an original contribution (i.e., important new concept)to the field through the publication of Dr. Klisanin's work as well as through an invitation to present her research at the 50th annual meeting of said society.

I believe these pages need to be re-instated to Wikipedia.

Hi TexasAndroid. I agree with you about blanking an article not being the same as contesting a deletion proposal (and it's in the policy too). But there's more to this one. There had been an earlier deletion proposal by User:JuJube. I removed the first deletion proposal on March 3. The blanking removed the second proposal. Your deletion proposal was the third, and I removed it on the basis of the first one having been removed (by me), not on the basis of the blanking of the article. Which is to say that on March 3 I protested the deletion proposal, so if there's to be a next step, it would be Articles for Deletion. Hope that clarifies matters. Sorry. I'm not going to undelete the article in it's current form. At the time of deletion, the article simply said "Tom Neville is a UK based DJ, remixer and producer." This is far from adequite for an article on the project. Articles need to be sourced to establish the truth of what was said. You call him "world renowned", but the article made no such claim, let alone showed sourced to establish this as true. Obviously it's not famous overseas, but it's reasonably notable amongst Anglophones in China. I was going to update the info there this evening but it's already gone the way of polyester shirts. So if you could just give it a quick undelete, that would be nice. Thanks. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Tmcgrenery (talkcontribs)

Why did you delete the Radicore article? edit

Why was I not contacted before this article was deleted? Tony Marston 16:56, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It was on WP:PROD for five days. That is all that is required for it to be deleted. The PROD noticed placed on the page *is* the notification that it is subject to upcoming deletion. However, PROD is only for uncontroversial deletions. If you wish to protest the deletion, just let me know, and I will restore it. - TexasAndroid 17:05, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
I think it is bad form to mark an article for deletion without informing the author. I can see no reason why it should have been deleted as the content is no different to the articles on all those other frameworks. I would be grateful if you could reinstate it asap. - Tony Marston 21:21, 2 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Stephen Harris Goldman Article Deleted? edit

I am extremely upset at your recent deletion of my article about Stephen Harris Goldman. He is a major figure in the Orlando area in the areas of the Arts, Sciences and Charitable Philanthropy. He is very well known and was the largest contributing designer of all currently used versions of RAID technology, as well as the first hardware designer to come up with a working intelligent disk controller. On what basis do you deny this article???? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Youknowyouknowmyname (talkcontribs)

By the time you left your second message, the article had already been undeleted for a number of hours. It was deleted via WP:PROD, which is for uncontroversial deletions only. Your first message made the deletion no longer uncontroversial, so I undeleted it. - TexasAndroid 04:34, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Billy Ego-Sandstein edit

Hello. I'd like to notify you that I've proposed that you be added as a party to the ongoing arbitration case Wikipedia:Requests for arbitration/Billy Ego-Sandstein. You might want to comment on that motion. I would welcome any other contributions you might want to make, of course, with regard to the arbitration case as a whole. Sandstein 17:47, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sigh. If I must, I must. I've done my best to stay far away from arbcom, not wanting to deal with the drama. I really have no idea what the normal procedures are for dealing with arbcom. Is there a step-by-step guide somewhere for how I'm supposed to respond? Where I should and should not comment? Any guidence of what I should do now would be appreciated. - TexasAndroid 19:36, 5 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Believe me, I share your feelings. The whole procedure is a huge waste of time. However, since we do have the case now, and since your (in my opinion, unfortunate) unilateral unblock of Billy Ego was a factor leading up to it, we might benefit from having ArbCom looking at it as well. Not to get you sanctioned or anything, just to confirm that here's how unblocks should proceed.
I've been told by a clerk that this requires you to be added as a party to the case. If you want to get minimally involved, I believe that it will do if you state here (under "Comment by others") whether you agree to be added as a party, and, optionally, a brief comment about the merits (i.e., whether you believe the unblock to have been justified under WP:BP or not). Sandstein 06:12, 6 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for your statement on the issue. I've withdrawn the motion because this arbitration case is involved enough as it is. Have a nice easter weekend! Sandstein 06:54, 7 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

William Christian (Manx) edit

I generally agree with you. However the situation is there are 3 Manx William Christians: 1. Illiam Dhone 2. Reverand William Christian CP JP BA - a member of the LegCo from 1883 to 1887 3. William Watson Christian CP JP - a member of the LegCo from 1848 to 1867.

I have no further information on these latter 2 but by virtue of them being Members of the Legislative Council of the Isle of Man they are notable in the sense of Wikipedia and thus could have pages on them. I would suggest a disambiguation page would be more appropraite at William Christian (Manx) than just a redirect, as both WC 2 and 3 are linked from the LegCo page.

Craigie and Debbie Zildjian redirect; don't get it? edit

Hi there. Thanks so much for your editing, TA. I also enjoy cleaning WP up. Was just hoping you'd take a moment and explain to me (I'm a relatively inexperienced wikipedian) why Craigie and Debbie Zildjian were redirected by you to the Zildjian company page. I would think that the sisters aren't really notable enough to warrant their own pages. The redirect seems to further muddle the waters by entrenching them, rather than exploring deletion. While they may run the company, they aren't the company, nor do they seem to have played a pivotal role in it's progress. They're only mentioned in the final sentence of the article, which seems to make the redirect even more indecipherable. I appreciate your illumination. Keep up the good work. JGray 06:10, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Just a practice I tend to do. I'm a deletionist in some ways, but an inclusionist in others. This leans towards the latter. Redirects are cheep, and if article A offers nothing extra above what is stated in article B, it IMHO does little harm to just redirect A to B. My redirecting makes no judgement one way or another on the notability of the subject. The subject may very well be notabile, or they may not. Redirecting is a judgement that the given article, as it stood, offers nothing useful beyond what is in the targetted article. On the other hand, if someone else wants to make the judgement that they are not notable, and put them up for deletion, I would generally have no problem with that. - TexasAndroid 13:28, 13 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

That area is for a brief summary of the situation. No single suspect is mentioned, because as soon as you mention one, other editors will want their favorite suspect mentioned. If you want to add your suspect to the project, you should see about giving him a section in the List of proposed Jack the Ripper suspects article, not in the main Ripper article. - TexasAndroid 23:00, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Yoga edit

I understand the need to give editors a chance to cleanup before any action, but wikipedia is not a how-to guide, and an step-by-step explanation of executing hatha yoga asanas clearly violates this. VanTucky 17:41, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

The Wild Forest edit

I noticed your recent edit to the above page. Should I do something like that whenever I create a deleted protected page?--Fuhghettaboutit 22:53, 30 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

It would be useful. I patrol Shortpages for things to fix. The list is only updated every few days, and is limited to 1,000 entries. So I regularly do several things to bump things off the list, in order to get other items to be added to the list. Bumping the salted pages way down so that they do not show up is one of them. - TexasAndroid 01:45, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Okay, can do. Just hope I remember.--Fuhghettaboutit 03:33, 1 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have to let you know that semur is never an accepted transliteration of the Chinese term 色目, as "semur" fails the google search. The correct transliteration should be semu or se4 mu4. Please revert the entry semur to redirect. Also, the original contributor who wrote semur was clearly mistaken in thinking that the term meant "colored eyes". Basic knowledge in Chinese historical literature of this period will rebuke such an absurd Eurocentric explanation on racial differences.

assist? edit

And would you be so kind as to assist me with the whatever it was you said was required?

Two categories were created which are inappropriate, given that there have been no findings of guilt or actionable conduct.

That harms my reputation and impunes my character. The longer it hangs around, the more people get in their minds a question of guilt.. rather than a presumption of innocence.

I would like my name cleared of these allegations and innuendo.

Thank you. Lsi john 16:58, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thank you. I've been led to believe that if things are not properly worded or phrased, deleting things can fail and then subsequent attempts are even more difficult.

This seems to me to be fairly clear cut, but I'm sitting here with all the information. Its not necessarily obvious to anyone else.

It seems that the articles are improper, and speedy would qualify. you say not, and I can't argue since I don't know what does.

I'm asking for help to simplify the process of removing articles intended to cast a shadow over my wiki-presence.

Lsi john 17:07, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Improper" is not a valid speedy criteria, and is far too vague to ever be one. Speedy deletion is for a very specific set of very limited criteria. "I don't like it" does not qualify either.
Follow the instructions on the MFD page, and you will be fine for the form of the request. The wording issue deals with your explanation of your reasoning for wanting the page deleted, and I'm really not the right person to assist you with that. I'm not a great wordsmith myself, don't know your mind for your reasonings, and really, really do not want to throw myself into the middle of the fight between you and User:Smee. I don't know the issues between the two of you, and am not of the right temperment or skill set to try to be some sort of moderator between you two.
I'm sorry, but in this case you are going to have to write up an explanation on your own that will convince other people that the category should be removed. - TexasAndroid 17:18, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
  • Thanks. Temperament is definitely required when dealing with Smee. As you can see, he shows up and says something 100% trivial, up just to poke the nest with a stick just to make sure I know that he's following me around. Its rather sad actually. Seems to be a game that he enjoys. I'll give it a whirl and see how it goes. Peace in God. Lsi john 17:50, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

    • Ponders how many different chats a user has to appear in, before it counts as stalking and attempts at intimidation? Smee, just know that what doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. You can continue to harass me, you can continue to play your games, you can continue to throw obstacles in my way. It only shows your character for what it is, and it will only make me stronger for having had to learn the rules here by fire. Have you considered a refresher course from Landmark? Lsi john 17:44, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
      • Your analysis of my actions are incorrect, not to mention inappropriate. And your reference to courses you think I have taken off-wiki are highly inappropriate. And in this posting on this user's page, I was helpfully trying to point you in the right direction for more information on MFD. But it is as always most amusing to see how you spin things in your inner perceptions... Smee 17:54, 9 May 2007 (UTC).Reply
        • Spin Spin Spin. You have forbidden me to post on your userpage. You have created the categories and you branded the old account a sock puppet. You could delete any of them if you chose to. The fact that you won't, the fact that you know I am trying to get the old account deleted, the fact that you wont help (other than to point me to a link you knew I already had, the fact that you've seen me suggest motivation for your pop in hellos, yet you persist, goes directly to the credibility of my claims. The fact that you brought this to TexasAndroid's page (and all the other pages you pop into), speaks to your respect for other editors. Ive asked you to stop, and if you need me to repeat it, please stop following me around. Please stop joining conversations to help me. Please stop what appears to be attempts to intimidate me. Why do you care if anyone knows that I suspect you washed out of a landmark seminar? If they're as bad as you paint them to be, that should be a good thing for you.

Mr TexasAndroid, Please accept my apologies for Smee's disrespect and for my participation in having brought him here. Though he is responsible for his own conduct. Lsi john 18:04, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • As you request User:Lsi john, I will avoid posting on this talk page again. However, I was unaware that you knew where to look for the MFD page, and was pointing it out to you here. Smee 18:19, 9 May 2007 (UTC).Reply
    • Not even remotely possibly true, sir. You monitor my every movement. I have zero doubt that you already know that this editor posted that information on my userpage. Can I prove it? Of course not. Which is why you can pretend that your assitance was innocent. You're a sharp guy, clearly there is a missing piece above. You knew where it was, and you knew what it said. There was no reason for you to Help here, or are you suggesting that this editor couldn't explain MFD for himself? By the way, for full documentation, since this will be used by someone.. after he left here, he followed me to Lsi admin and added hangon to a speedy delete that I entered. That was fine, but he didnt provide any reason.. When I began editing my reason for speedy, he began editing the area I was working on which is also one of his harassing tactics with me. So he promised to leave this chat alone, but then went to another and harassed me there.. thats how he works.

Mr TexasAndroid, again, I am truly sorry that this got brought here. It was not my intention, but clearly it was the result. Lsi john 18:41, 9 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

What is the difference between this having this game or any other game that is on the wikipedia? This game has just as much notability as any other, more than others even! What more do you need? What more do you need, so that it can be provided? At least restore the page to the point where it can have it's own talk/discussion page back to discuss this on. World of Padman Advertising edit

Hi,
I was not trying to advertise for either the game or the producer. The game is fully GPL'ed. It is based on the ioquake3 engine and has now become stand-alone. I play games sometimes on Linux, being a full-time linux user, and I know how people always say there are no good games for linux. This game could actually be a number 1. I showed it to more of my friends and they suggested writing a wikipedia article, since there was none about it. I still haven't gathered enough information about the game, and the article was also my first wikipedia article. I am asking politely for guidance and approval on writing this article.
Thank you.

Heinrich Mueller Redirect edit

I was wondering why you removed the redirect. If someone chooses to record under a particular pseudonym (He doesn't actually record per se, he just remixes and produces under this pseudonym), then it is their decision. The pseudonym can be found on the discogs page, and I know it is a bizarre bit of referencing, but I also own quite a few of the remixes. I did not feel it was right to put a note at the top of the Heinrich Muller page, so the only way I could think was a disabmiguation page. I feel it reflects poorly on me, but until the other day I did not realise that the Heinrich Mueller in the article even existed. That is part of the joy of wikipedia, learning new things in a haphazard way. - - Curious GregorTALK 09:18, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

There are several factors at play here.
  1. This is not a nick name that anyone would want tagged to them unless they deliberately picked it for themselves. A nickname so similar to a major Nazi figure? Definite WP:BLP concerns here. This is not something that can stand unless very well sourced, IMHO.
  2. I thought there was no mention of the nickname on the target page. I now see it mentioned in the list, and you have added an offhand mention of it as well. So that issue is dealt with.
  3. Considering the WP:BLP concerns with the nickname, it really needs to be very well sourced. A source is needed showing that this is indeed a regular/accepted nickname of his.
Given all that, if you could provide sourcing for the nickname, I would not object to having the disambig restored. IMHO the discogs link is not sufficient in this reguard, given that it is user-added information as well, and thus is effectively unsourced information. This gets into the definition of "reliable" sources.
On a side note, looking at the Gerald Donald page itself, I don't really see anything that establishes his notability. Without that, the page is subject to Speedy deletion at any point. If you want to avoid the possibility of the page being deleted at some point down the road, you would be well advised to consult WP:BAND, and add some indepenant sources that help establish why he is notable. - TexasAndroid 12:51, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
It has already been up for a speedy delete and the notability proved. - - Curious GregorTALK 18:01, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I see no sign of a previous Speedy attempt on the Gerald Donald page. - TexasAndroid 18:03, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Sorry the delete was on Dopplereffekt, the arguement to keep the article included the fact that it included Gerald Donald, who was one of the members of Drexciya. I can elaborate if you would like me to. On the Heinrich Mueller front, these links are to albums that include his remixes [2],[3],[4],[5],[6],[7],[8] - - Curious GregorTALK 18:21, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Why del the article "Diplomate in National Board" edit

Hi,

I feel offended that my article has been deleted so early when I was in the process of editing it. I understand that it had materials similar to ones from copyrighted websites. But I was editing it and the article was deleted while I was working on it.

Mind Swapper 17:44, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Copyright violations are not something we take lightly around here. You simply *cannot* copy material from other sites to ours. It's that simple. If you wish to start a brand new version of the article from scratch, go for it, but you cannot copy the material from the other sites, even temporarily. Copyright laws are not something we can afford to take lightly around here. Sorry. - TexasAndroid 17:48, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks edit

Thanks for blocking that headmouse. He obviously does not grasp wikipedia has rules, after being told many times. He likes to get in edit wars, but something else is happening. You (and I) are being attacked on his talk page. Please protect it, thanks much, --trey 19:06, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Suggestions? edit

Do you have any suggestion on HeadMouse (talk · contribs)? While I feel that he means well (I totally disagree with Trey's labeling HeadMouse`s actions as vandalism) and only wishes to improve the project, HeadMouse has been extremely obstinate and remains focused like a singularity. I really want to help the guy, but at this point I am about out of ideas. Thank you for your time, Kralizec! (talk) 19:51, 15 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Creating an entry about a product, vs balant adverticing. edit

I am rather at loss here. I first tried to suggest an article about a book. 6 months passed without anyone bothering to answer the suggestion. After contacting wiki I was told to make it my self. I did, and it was deleted as Balant Adverticing. Fair enough in one way, since any post about any product available is in one way a form of adverticing. Yet, there are thousands of posts about buyable products on wiki. So, in all fairness where does the line go? The reason I posted the article as a suggestion in the first place is that I have been part of making this book. So following the guide lines it would be more appropriate if someone not related to the book were to make the article here at wiki. Failing that, I posted an article where I said nothing positive nor negative about the book - I just stated a few facts. Having compared entries with a lot of other books, I thought this would be the right thing to do. I am rather new to Wiki, and I am trying to learn here. Still the deletion process is quite harsh when one spend hours trying to do things right and then getting it all deleted. So before I try again, please give me some hints on what I did wrong? ref: Book of Games volime 1 —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bendik Stang (talkcontribs)

Userfied at User:Bendik Stang/Book of Games volume 1 for now, so that you, at the least, have not lost your work. As for what next, I'll need to think on it some more. At this point I'm not really sure where to point you for guidence. I'll think a bit more. - TexasAndroid 12:43, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks, I am glad the work is not lost. I appreciate the dificulty in coming up with an answer ;) As a side note. We are publishing volume 2 in November this year, and if there was a way to submit books to Wiki for evaluation it might solve this kind of problem.

September 2007: I have re-entered the book The Book of Games Volume 1. This time I have used a similar book as a template. The entry this time is not detailed - rather the opposite. Have you given this topic about Balant adverticing more thought? Bendik Stang 20:28, 3 September 2007 (UTC)Reply

Deleting Trunki for "blatant advertising" edit

Why have you deleted the article "Trunki" for blatant advertising? I echo the comment made above, where do you draw the line to say that the article for iPod is not blatant advertising but the article for Trunki was. I stated facts about Trunki, nothing was made up to make the product seem better than it is. I would be very interested to be given some detailed points of where i went wrong exactly. It seems a very harsh policy you are running. Constructive criticism would be very helpful rather than you just deleting the article without warning. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Davelaw 00 (talkcontribs)

I'll let Trunki have another try, and have restored it for now, but have placed an advertising notice on it. Take a look at the links on that notice, as they give the project's position on advertising. And just because I have restored it does not mean that some other admin will not delete it once again as advertising. - TexasAndroid 12:27, 20 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Monterey Boulevard edit

"I'm no great author of Wiki pages". I'll say. Youre a deletionist at best. At worst - an annoyance. Your PROD of the above article was made in bad faith and intended to slip under the radar of an AfD. I intend to recreate the article with additional references and will put it on watch. Thanks for your contribution to WP mate. Dudes like you are really appreciated. 203.57.241.67 03:26, 21 June 2007 (UTC)EnciseReply

Wow. So following procedures is now bad faith? Interesting. And for someone who tosses around a lot of project words, you appear to know little of how the processes in question work. If something is on PROD for five days, uncontested, it becomes subject to deletion at any point after that. Period. That it took you three additional months to protest speaks volumes as well for how important this page is to you. I have no idea what you are meaning with your "slip under the radar of an AFD" comment. I do not see any signs of a previous AFD having been filed for this article.
But anyway, for PROD deletions, any protest, even after the deletion, makes the deletion no longer valid. You have protested, no matter how incivilly, so the page is now back. No need for you to recreate it. but looking at it, I really do not see why it would be considered notable enough for the project, so I will now go file an AFD on it. See you there, I'm sure. - TexasAndroid 12:50, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Álvaro Augusto Matos Almeida edit

Not that I'm attached to the article, but I'm curious about the trans-wiki component here. This guy has had an article on the Portugese wiki for a month now. If a subject is sufficiently notable on one wiki, wouldn't it automatically be notable enough for any wiki with editors willing to do the translation? In this case, it's pretty much a word for word translation. I don't recall having read anything on this one way or another. What are your thoughts? Rklawton 20:28, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

The different projects have different requirements for inclusion. Just because he's notable for one project does not make him notable for another. That said, I don't really consider the leaders of small towns/parishes to be automatically notable, if that is their only claim to notability. From the article on the city, it's a small city of ~ 15K people. I'm sorry, but it does not matter if that city is in Portugal or the US, the mayor of a 15K population city is just not automatically notable, IMHO. Heck, even in San Antonio, Texas, USA, where I live, a city of over 1 million, only 3 of the seven mayors from the last 20 years have articles. And two of those three are notable in good part because of other things that they have done. The others were simply not notable enough at this point. - TexasAndroid 20:37, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I am the guy that proposed the article for deletion and therefore I read your comments about this issue because I wanted to check its effective deletion. I just want to explain that Mr. Álvaro is the leader of a civil parish (a tiny subdivision of a municipality). The municipality is Resende, Portugal and is sparsely populated, but the civil parish that we are talking about is even smaller and is not Felgueiras (a city of some 15k inhab., with the same name, that is located in another municipality and has not relation with Resende or Mr. Álvaro) but Felgueiras (civil parish). Felgueiras (the civil parish in the municipality of Resende) has only 316 inhabitants. The wikilink in the article was not correct because it referred to the larger city of Felgueiras instead of the civil parish in Resende. Page Up 21:06, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for taking the time to respond. If, for some really strange reason, I ever wanted to look this guy up, at least I can find him in the Portugese wiki. Rklawton 21:31, 21 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Del: Jonathan McLear edit

I perhaps can understand why you deleted my entry ("Jonathan McLear). Will you, however, restore the page to my user:jmclear ? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jmclear (talkcontribs)

If you felt you were notable (See WP:BIO), and were wanting the article userfied in order to work on it to eventually place it back out in article space once it met project policy, I would gladly userfy it to a subpage. However, as it appears to be about you yourself, and you are asking to have it placed as your user page, I'm afraid I will need to decline. WP is not Myspace. We allow regular editors to use their homepages to tell a little about themselves. But the user pages are not there to allow non-editors to put up vanity pages about themselves. Those types of home pages get delted all the time, and would almost certainly eventually get deleted in this case, as I see no edits from you that are not about... you. So sorry, but I will need to decline. - TexasAndroid 15:37, 22 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
My intent was, in fact, to continue work on the userfied article as some of my works will soon be getting published. I did not realize that I had to state my intent for my previous request. I am fairly new to the wiki community and am unsure the rules and regulations to posting. I understand that WP is not a mySpace, nor do I have a history of turning it into that. Please note that my entry was purely professional, listing my compositions and credentials; there were no "vanity" entries as I recall. I would appreciate it if you would please userfy my entry. Thank you. - --Jmclear 13:02, 24 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Short article revert edit

Thanks for the explanation, I was wondering what you were doing. Wouldn't it be better to add the invisible comments to the copyvio template itself? It would definitely save much time and effort on your part, and would be a more effective long-term solution. Thaurisiltc 03:24, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hi. I saw others with the same comment. The copyvio template replaces entirely the article contents. As it stands, that means that every time it is used, it will cause a listing on the short pages. Can it either be ignored, or have the template lengthened so that it will never be listed on short pages? -- Whpq 19:28, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
The problem is that the cached shortpages listing is 1,000 articles long, and only 1,000 articles long. Every article that shows up on this list that does not need attention by the short pages patrollers is one less article on the list that potentially could benefit from the attention. By regularly bumping off the list a variety of pages that do not need attention from the short pages patrollers, I bring onto the list more and more pages that may benefit from the attention.
As for lengthening the template, you would need to lengthen the tempalte name so that any use of it would be beyond that 1,000 pages limit. Currently that is working out to around 107 characters, but that's a moving target, subject to just how far down that 1,000 pages reaches each time the cached report is generated, which is once every 3 - 4 days currently.
One solution would be to have those who place the copyvio template subst it. The substed version of the template is far, far over the shortpages limit, and is thus a total non-issue. but for now, I have no problem adding the invisible comment to the pages to bump them down. The only person who's time is spent with it ends up being me. - TexasAndroid 19:41, 25 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Remove Forced Redirect on Eric Dill edit

Recently Dc222 removed the forced redirect on "Eric Dill." However, it appears that you put the forced redirect back into effect. Can you remove this forced redirect? Eric Dill's record should be populated as he is an independent musician with Atlantic Records. User: Summerridge123 10:18, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Nothing in my edit prevents a real article from being created there by an established user. The page is only semi-protected, not fully protected. Semi-protection blocks anonymous users and new accounts from editing, but allows older accounts. It is protected because it has an extended history of improper handling by anons. External redirects, copyright violations, blankings, etc. There have also been repeated questions raised as to whether he has an notability separate from that band. Dc222, who you mention, simply blanked the redirect, which is a very vandalistic action. I reverted the blanking.
Given all that, IMHO the proper option is to leave it protected, and leave it redirected, until an established user creates a proper, sourced article that is well referenced and establishes his separate notability. - TexasAndroid 14:44, 26 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
