Welcome

Thanks for the welcome and if its not too much trouble, I have a couple of question to ask. I created the article Gustav Wachtmeister and I took my references from a book. What am I supposed to do in regards to proving that it is not fake as I cannot link it to a website so I'm a bit stuck. I am also having trouble linking it to various categories and i get confused very easily so any help would be appreciated. cheers Eaiere (talk) 17:54, 2 June 2010 (UTC)

Request for Help

Greetings Stardust, I recently posted:

Greetings, My name is Tom McCarthy and I am a newly self-published author. My book "Get Naked: Stripping 101" was two years in the creation and contains observations of over nine years of work as a strip club DJ. The goal of the book is two-fold: 1) help newcomers to the world of exotic dancing understand what they are getting into before they take the plunge. And 2) Help strippers morph into professional exotic dancers. The book entered publication in May of 2010 and is in it's first printing. R.R. Bowker issued the official ISBN-9780615365855.

Unless I am mistaken, I then received what I think is a welcome message that I would take to be an invitation to create an article for Wikipedia on my book. However, I am somewhat unsure if my subject matter is acceptable and worthy of Wikipedia's roving editors. Miss Stardust, am I to believe you've given me a greenlight to proceed with my article? And if so, is this the place and forum I need to address editorial concerns by Wikipedia? I'm semi-literate in this manor of communication here in Wiki-Land, please advise. Page deletion

Hi

I was trying to edit the I Am Number Four (novel) page today, I couldn't access the sandbox area and thus entered my additions [UK publication date and official website links] straight onto the to the live page, which I think might have caused the problems?

I didn't create this page, I just wanted to add in information for the UK, however I think it's been taken as spam, which wasn't intended.

Is there any way to get this page live again?

Thanks so much for your help.

Thanks for your response. As I didn't create the page originally, should I wait and see if the owner tries to revert it first? Rubylaru (talk) 15:52, 3 June 2010 (UTC)rubylaru

Thanks again, and this is my last question, promise! How do I find out the creator's name then? Rubylaru (talk) 16:29, 3 June 2010 (UTC)rubylaru

Thanks for your welcome, and a request for help

Dear Stardust,

First and foremost, thank you for your warm welcome and generous offer to help!

I have just created my first Wikipedia article about Siddharth Kara, author and expert on modern slavery. Please could I trouble you to have a quick look at the article, and give me your advice and assistance on how to improve it before I move it to the article space today, so that it has the best chances of being accepted?

I did have one question about the author photo. I contacted the author about an author photo for this article, and he told me I could use the standard author photo that he provides to all websites or media that request it. Do I need the author to write to an authority at Wikipedia confirming his permission? Also, which tags do I use in the "summary" and which option do I select in the "licensing" menu when I am uploading the photo?

Thank you so very much for your time and insights, in advance!

And again, thank you for your warm welcome!

Hi Stardust! My article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rajesh_Touchriver has now got promoted to "start class" from stub status on a thorough referencing, revision and submission for re-assessment. Question from Graham Thomson

I have recently read "The Complete Short Stories of Raffles" by E W Hornung and discovered when I looked up one of the short stories on Wikipedia: The Gift of the Emperor that it is factually incorrect on several points (where it was set, involvement of the British Foreign Office etc.). I would like to know if Hornung wrote two versions of this short story and if not how one goes about correcting the Wikipedia entry. I have posed my questions on the article's discussion page and wondered if this was the correct approach to get an answer? Thanks Gnthomson (talk) 13:04, 14 July 2010 (UTC)

Thanks so much!

Stardust,

Thank you so much for the recognition and the barnstar. I'm a regular Signpost reader, which is how I came across the Children's literature WikiProject and the backlog that needed attention. As I was reading the WikiProject Report, it looked like a fascinating project to spend some time with, and it was certainly time well spent! Thanks again.

Adopt-a-user reminder

Hello, I have completed a general cleanup of the adopter information page for the adopt-a-user project, located here. During my cleanup, I have removed several inactive and retired users. In order to provide interested adoptees with an easy location to find adopters, it is essential that the page be up-to-date with the latest information possible. Thus:

  • If you are no longer interested in being an adopter, please remove yourself from the list.
  • If you are still interested, please check the list to see if any information needs to be updated or added - especially your availability. Thank you.
  • You are receiving this message because you are listed as an adopter here.

Ways to promote the project
If you're interested in promoting the project, why not visit the Outreach department for more ideas?

There are many ways to promote the project. One of them is to add the project's ad to your userpage. To do this, simply add the code {{Template:Wikipedia ads|ad=212}} to your talk or user page. Another thing you can do is to invite other users to join the project. To find prospective members search the history pages of Children's literature-related articles and invite people who seem to be deoing good things for these articles. The code for the invitation template is {{subst:Wikipedia:WikiProject Children's literature/Invite}}.

An update from adopt a user

Hi there Strdst grl! You may be wondering, what have I done to sound the alarm this time? Nothing. I'm messaging you in regards to the adopt-a-user program, which currently has a backlog of users wishing to be adopted. This doesn't make much sense, as we have a considerable list of users offer adoption, so there shouldn't be any backlog. I've begun to eliminate this backlog myself through a matching program, but I need your help to make it work. Of course, adoptees and adopters don't have to go through there, but I believe it helps eliminate the backlog because someone is actively matching pairs.

On the list of adopters, I have modified the middle column to say "Interests." It's easier working with other users that have similar interests, so if it's not too much to ask, could you add your interests in the middle column? For example, if I was interested in hurricanes, computers, business, and ... reptiles? I would place those in the middle column. Counter-vandalism and the like can also be included (maintenance should be used as the general term). The more interests, the better, since adoptees can learn more about you and choose the one they feel most comfortable working with. The information about when you're most active and other stuff can go into the "Notes" section to the right.

Finally, I've gone around and asked adoptees (and will in the future) to fill in a short survey so adopters can take the initiative and contact users they feel comfortable working with. We all know that most adoptees just place the adopt me template on their user page and leave it - so it's up to us to approach them and offer adoption. So, please take a look at the survey, adopt those that fit your interests, and maybe watchlist it so you can see the interests of adoptees and adopt one that fits your interests in the future.

Once again, thank you for participating in the adopt-a-user program! If you wish to respond to this post, please message me on my talk page.

Changed importance level

Just though I would let you know I changed the importance rating to the R. L. Stine article for the Children's literature project from high to top as R. L. Stine is considered the #1 bestselling children's author in history, beating J. k. Rowling and Dr. Seuss, so I figure he'd be of top importance to the project. From Rayheh

Hi Stardust

I haven't always time to find citations, but have studied and taught across several subjects pertaining to Mesoamerica, early Africa, Aboriginal Australia etc. I am finding my contributions on many pages have been entirely undone (deleted) though it was meant to expand the often limited content of the said pages, and none of what I wrote was controversial. What can I do about this?

I apologize for bothering you but am seeking guidance about a page that was supported through an edit by you on this page: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Nicole_van_Dam - the underlying article is now up for deletion - I wanted you to know because I've worked so hard to keep it up to date, and would be sad to see it deleted. I'm willing to make changes to save it, and since this started (Dec 28) I've added more links and cites to bolster the page, but the situation seems to remain and I am not sure how best to resolve it other than by continuing to add more cites. Should I just sit and wait now? Any insights (critical or supportive) would be appreciated, as I would like to do this correctly. See Nicole van Dam, THANK YOU! for any advice you might have. Please take a moment to review the nominations and nominate your own new mottos at Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/In review and Wikipedia:Motto of the day/Nominations/'Specials. Any help would be appreciated! MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 09:13, 29 April 2014 (UTC)

This message has been sent by pjoef on behalf of Motto of the Day to all editors of the English Wikipedia who are showing MOTD's templates on their pages, and to all the participants to MOTD: (page, template, and category).

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
