How do I manipulate the Userboxes? edit

How do I set the Userboxes on the User page to the right of the main text rather than below it? Sreesarmatvm (talk) 17:14, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

With boxtop/boxbottom, the main thing is to make sure the userboxes come before the text, the userboxes will naturally gravitate right, but leave room for the text on the left. I hope you don't mind, but I just went and made the change to demonstrate. Have a great day! --j⚛e deckertalk 18:43, 1 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Personal picture edit

How do I add my own picture to the user page? Sreesarmatvm (talk) 11:34, 12 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Assuming that you think it's a good idea to make your own image universally available for anyone to alter, reuse, sell or otherwise make use of (which is what placing a picture of yourself on your userpage would entail), you need to do the following:
  1. Locate a picture of yourself to which you own the copyright (copyright almost always lies with the photographer, not the subject of the photo).
  2. Upload the image to Wikimedia Commons, using their Upload Wizard.
  3. On your userpage, place the code [[File:name of file at Commons|frame|center|caption, if desired]]
More information is available at the Picture Tutorial. Yunshui  11:46, 12 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Yunshui ! I honestly didn't realize that uploading a picture would put it in the public domain. I guess I'll have to reconsider it.--Sreesarmatvm (talk) 01:49, 13 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Technically you wouldn't be making it public domain (you'd still retain the copyright), but you'd have to release it under a CC-BY-SA or similar free licence, which is functionally very similar (the image can be reused and messed about with, but anyone displaying it still has to credit you as the creator and copyright holder). Glad you've reconsidered - in today's internet, the less personal data you make freely available online, the safer you are. Do feel free to decorate your userpages with pictures of things that aren't you, though; there's loads available at Commons which are free to use. Yunshui  08:41, 13 December 2012 (UTC)Reply
Thanks for the suggestion Yunshui . I'll definitely look into that. I'm tired of having a bland user page. Sreesarmatvm talkcontribs 07:15, 14 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification for July 12 edit

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited 1906 Hong Kong typhoon, you added links pointing to the disambiguation pages British and Steamers (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

GOCE July 2013 news report edit

Guild of Copy Editors July 2013 backlog elimination drive mid-drive newsletter

  • Participation: Out of 30 people who have signed up for this drive so far, 18 have participated. If you have signed up for the drive but have not yet participated, it isn't too late. If you haven't signed up for the drive, sign up now!

  • Progress report: Thus far we have reduced the number of May/June 2012 articles to just 124 articles, so we're on the right track. Unfortunately, for the first time in GOCE history, the number of articles in the backlog has actually gone up during this drive. While all participants are currently doing a fine job, we just don't have as many of them as we have had in the past. We have over 500 editors on our mailing list, but only 18 editors who have done a copy edit for the drive. If you're receiving this newsletter, it's because you have an interest in copy editing. Join the drive! Even if you only copy edit one article, it helps. Imagine how much progress we could make if everyone chipped in just one article.

How do I add a new userbox to the gallery? edit

So I created this userbox:

This user is a Brahmin

. I'd like to add it under ethnicity in the Life userbox category. How do I do so?--Sreesarmatvmtalkcontribs 06:58, 16 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

First, you need to give the userbox its own page; something like User:Sreesarmatvm/Userbox Brahmin. Create that page, and use the userbox you've created as its only content. You can then add the userbox itself to any page with the code {{User:Sreesarmatvm/Userbox Brahmin}}, and add it to the userbox gallery with the code {{usbk|User:Sreesarmatvm/Userbox Brahmin}}. Yunshui  11:30, 16 December 2014 (UTC)Reply
(For a similar example, see e.g. User:Yunshui/Userbox harmony). 11:32, 16 December 2014 (UTC)
Thanks, Yunshui!--Sreesarmatvmtalkcontribs 11:49, 16 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Europe 10,000 Challenge invite edit

Hi. The Wikipedia:WikiProject Europe/The 10,000 Challenge has recently started, based on the UK/Ireland Wikipedia:The 10,000 Challenge. The idea is not to record every minor edit, but to create a momentum to motivate editors to produce good content improvements and creations and inspire people to work on more countries than they might otherwise work on. There's also the possibility of establishing smaller country or regional challenges for places like Germany, Italy, the Benelux countries, Iberian Peninsula, Romania, Slovenia etc, much like Wikipedia:The 1000 Challenge (Nordic). For this to really work we need diversity and exciting content and editors from a broad range of countries regularly contributing. If you would like to see masses of articles being improved for Europe and your specialist country like Wikipedia:WikiProject Africa/The Africa Destubathon, sign up today and once the challenge starts a contest can be organized. This is a way we can target every country of Europe, and steadily vastly improve the encyclopedia. We need numbers to make this work so consider signing up as a participant and also sign under any country sub challenge on the page that you might contribute to! Thank you. --MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 21:09, 7 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
