MDW Route Map, GRR and IWA... edit

Hey Sox23!

I got the PHL thing fixed and it is good to go. I also noticed that GRR has the same type of route map that MDW had before so I also put in a new route map for the GRR article and also gave IWA a new route map too since it's was very boring. It is always a pleasure to help!

Thank you for uploading images/media to Wikipedia! There is, however, another Wikimedia Foundation project called Wikimedia Commons, a central media repository for all free media. In the future, please consider creating an account and uploading your media there instead. That way, all of the other language Wikipedias can use them too, as well as our many sister projects. This will also allow our visitors to search for, view and use our media in one central location. If you wish to move previous uploads to Commons, see Wikipedia:Moving images to the Commons (you may view images you have previously uploaded by going to your user contributions on the left and choosing the 'image' namespace from the drop down box). Okay look. Maybe ATA didn't own the Bell, but it WAS in their fleet. Why do you keep deleting it? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.18.188.98 (talk) 04:22, 12 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

TUS-EWR edit

Hey Steve!

The TUS-EWR non-stop flight is to be discontinued by Continental Airlines in September of this year. It has become victim to capacity cuts. I am a member on the Airliners.net forum and read about it there, here is a link to the post about the capacity cuts:

TUS Route Map / Moline (MLI) / Lansing (LAN) edit

Yeah, I will have OAK taken off of the map here in a little while since it will be a couple months before it is gone. I have also created a new route map for Quad City International Airport (Moline, IL) and Lansing, MI (LAN) since they needed updated and the route maps werent as good.

Anyway, good luck with Purdue! I am going to ASU over here in Mesa and will be majoring in Air Transportation Management starting in August...

Delta terminates Delta Connection/ExpressJet contract edit

Hey Steve,

Delta terminated ExpressJet's flying contract out of LAX and SLC so some routes may be affected but Delta says that another Delta Connection carrier will be awarded only a portion of the flying, though it is unclear of who. All ExpressJet operated flights will either be replaced or discontinued on September 1, 2008. Will keep you informed.

TWA History Addition to IND edit

Someone added a comment to the IND airport page about TWA being the first airline to offer service to the terminal when it opened in 1957. I have my doubts about the accuracy of that. I believe they were the first to offer jet service which is recognized by a plaque in the current terminal. It was 707 service. I am certain TWA was the first with jets but don't know if they were the first ever. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhammerindy (talkcontribs) 07:54, 4 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

IND/AirTran Focus City Issue edit

As you have seen Wikiman9223 keeps taking AirTran out of the list of airlines running focus cities out of IND. I have changed it back once again. According to another wikipedia source ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Focus_city ) the operation is by definition a focus city since there is nonstop service to 8 cities not including AirTran's hub in ATL. AirTran doesn't need to come out and use the words "focus city" for the operation to be one. Just like if they were to cut MKE service back down to ATL and MCO only they wouldn't have to issue a press release saying it is no longer a focus city for that to be the case. It is what it is by definition. A press release calling it as such isn't necessary. With the number of destinations offered and the involvement with the Colts, Peyton Manning and one or more of the races they truly have a focus on Indianapolis.

Do you want to send Wikiman9223 a message or what should we do?

Dhammerindy (talk) 07:37, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

If the company does not place a city in it's official list of focus cities then in order for that company's article to be accurate we should post their list as they have published it. It simply comes down to whether or not you want your encyclopedia to be a reflection of the way things are or the way you wish things were, and I believe the former is the right way to go because that's the definition of an encyclopedia. QualityControl3533 (talk) 14:51, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

As much as I don't like change, I think I have to agree with wikiman/quality control. To keep it accurate, technically only MDW, MKE, and BOS have been listed as "focus cities", even though like Dhammerindy said, they have over 8 n/s destinations from IND (and cities like MDW and BOS keep shrinking but are still listed as focus cities). The only way I'd include the previous focus cities is by contacting AirTran's customer service and asking them if they know what cities FL considers to be "focus cities." Sox23 15:20, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I'm not opposed to somebody asking the airline although the sources that are there are less than a year old. And to make sure you see why I question the definition and case given I'll point out that MCI had a US Airways presence until this year which was over 8 cities but they weren't a focus city and American Airlines still sponsors events in Nashville even though the city is no longer a hub for that airline. QualityControl3533 (talk) 15:28, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

All AirTran has done in Indianapolis is begin service to Florida like it has in many other cities like Akron, Detroit, Dayton, and Pittsburgh which the AR says is part of its route diversification plan and pick up some West Coast slack from the ATA days where they now partially compete with Northwest. Compared to BWI, MKE, and MCO, Indianapolis is small stuff. I think if we see new focus cities announced from AirTran in the future they have a better chance at being the other Florida cities than Indianapolis. As far as Midway goes, I think AirTran just can't seem to get that midwest expansion done. They've tried Dallas, then Chicago, and now Milwaukee and couldn't make it happen. Unless Midwest goes out of business I wouldn't be suprised to them end up like Northwest did there. That city just can't support two airlines...it's too small. QualityControl3533 (talk) 17:26, 11 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

HNL/NWA and NRT/UA Focus City Issue edit

Hey Sox23! I was just wondering if these cities are still focus cities for the airlines? Cause they were removed from the respective pages and I was wondering if they still are. 74.183.173.237 (talk) 18:59, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

JetBlue Better Business Bureau edit

I note that you tagged the Better Business Bureau Rating portion as unbalanced. The grounds provided are:

1. "No reliable secondary source is provided, therefore it completely lacks analysis and context. For example, how do other airlines rate?"

Yet, the Awards section contains the following:

"In October 2007, JetBlue was named the number one U.S. domestic airline by Conde Nast Traveler magazine's "Readers' Choice Awards" for the sixth year in a row."

"On June 17, 2008, JetBlue ranked 'Highest in Customer Satisfaction Among Low Cost Carriers in North America' by J.D. Power and Associates. A Customer Satisfaction Recognition Received for the Fourth Year in a Row."

"Jetblue is currently ranked as 4-star low-cost carrier by Skytrax."

The first two accolades cite to JetBlue press releases, obviously an unreliable source, the last to Skytraxx. None are supported by secondary sources. Please note that the five Bureaus are independent. Moreover, none of the sources cites for the awards maintain the database that the Better Business Bureau has (please see the Better Business Bureau Wiki entry for more details).

2. "Who cares if JetBlue has a bad rating with the Better Business Bureau...half the people don't even know what that is...and is it "notable" to be included in an encyclopedia?"

That is a subjective judgment on your part. Is it your position that Skytraxx is more objective and reliable than the Better Business Bureaus of 5 states, or more widely known? I am sure you will concede that is not the case. If the awards are notable enough (particularly where two are reported by the subject itself and are therefore inherently subjective and unreliable) for an encyclopedia, then certainly data compiled by five impartial consumer protection agencies certainly are.

I have no axe to grind; I don't work for a competitor, I have no connection to the BBB. I've been researching airlines and found, to my surprise that JetBlue had an unsatisfactory rating in all of its hub areas. This certainly seemed to contradict "common knowledge" and what had been reported. It is my position that these public reports are notable, or, at least as notable as (and more strongly supported than) its accolades which have been deemed to be acceptable.

I'm sorry, I didn't realize that Wikipedia was also a consumer reports website. What does this have to do with a factual encyclopedic profile of the airline? QualityControl3533 (talk) 04:34, 17 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Lambert Edit edit

A Lot of that information that you deleted that I put was true. If you even looked at flystl.com Ryan Charters is no longer listed and is replaced by Air Choice One. Fed-EX has increased service to, i can't remember the source though, and also I live by the airport and there is double the amount of Fed-EX planes at Lambert there since June. Oh and Lambert does get 767's not just 757's. How Do I Know? Well because I see them every day.

Formatting help needed edit

Hey is there a way to make "History" wrap around the right side of "Contents" on the IND Airport page? That way we can eliminate that huge white space near the top of the page. Also "Coordinates" at the top right part of the page appears to be shifted down too far. Can this be adjusted? I don't know if these changes are possible or not. My wiki skills are not good. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Dhammerindy (talkcontribs) 21:56, 12 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

CVG Content Buildup edit

Hey when I was reworking the TOC on a number of pages I noticed CVG was severely neglected. I've tried to organize the data a bit to make it cleaner. I've tried to rework the categories and include some information in subcategories instead of giving them categories of their own. Can you help me build up the CVG history section? It is a bit thin.

Lynx_Aviation (United States) edit

You are reverting my edits to Lynx aviation, but they are constructive edits. My edit concerning the destinations is constructive and improves the article. It makes the article flow better and still provides the opportunity for people to click "show" to see the full list of destinations if they wish on the same page. Not all people wish to see all destinations of an airline. My edits not only improve the article but also improve the readability of the destinations if the person viewing wishes to click the "show" link.

I also find it strange that you find issue with my edits even though you clearly have been editing this page for the past few months and yet you found no issue with the gibberish introduction and history section that was there for months.--76.19.222.40 (talk) 03:08, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

The WP:Airlines is only a suggestion, it is not policy. Guess what outside of your flight sim community the average user of wiki does not care about destinations and my edit improves the article and still allows people interested in destinations to click the "show". WP:AIRLINES is not policy, it is a suggestion. Maybe you should care more about the introduction and history section of articles instead of the destination and fleet size (both of which are to minimal interest to the average public) You could care less about "giberrish" but guess what, nobody comes to wiki to get the schedule of an airline. Maybe you should reevaluate your motive and quit taking the easy way out by editing fleets and destinations, which are two issues that are minimal impact and are open to multiple sources (especially concerning fleets) --76.19.222.40 (talk) 04:24, 8 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Midway Rename edit

Well it seems like just Yesterday we changed Midway Airport to Chicago Midway International Airport. It appears however, that now the city is calling it Midway International airport on their sites. Should we rename? -Marcusmax (talk) 02:29, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

First of all I feel silly, and relize that in the past rename we saw Midway International airport on the website, yet the FAA name is Chicago Midway International Airport. If indeed we are going to use the FAA name then we must rename O' Hare Chicago-O'hare International Airport this is a weird question. FAA name, or Airport Authority name. If indeed the answer is FAA name then there are many airports that will have to be renamed. -Marcusmax (talk) 02:51, 17 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (Image:KRFD.gif) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:KRFD.gif. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. ...curious, where did you find that route map used to show currently airline destinations from airports? Ours is in need of update, I'd do it myself, but would prefer it to stay consistent with the graphic that's already been used. An exciting opportunity to get involved! edit

As a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 05:21, 23 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Sox23! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 943 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. File permission problem with File:DAL at Tucson (James Richard Covington).jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:DAL at Tucson (James Richard Covington).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file agreed to license it under the given license.

If you created this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{OTRS pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use in|article name}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Proposed deletion of Douglas F. Yakola edit

The article Douglas F. Yakola has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

Fails biographical notability standards. All coverage I can find is self-published or primary.

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the page to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. File:NK New Logo.png edit

Hi, I'm RonBot, a script that checks new non-free file uploads. I have found that the subject image that you recently uploaded was more than 5% in excess of the Non-free content guideline size of 100,000 pixels. I have tagged the image for a standard reduction, which (for jpg/gif/png/svg files) normally happens within a day. Please check the reduced image, and make sure that the image is not excessively corrupted. Other files will be added to Category:Wikipedia non-free file size reduction requests for manual processing. There is a full seven-day period before the original oversized image will be hidden; during that time you might want to consider editing the original image yourself (perhaps an initial crop to allow a smaller reduction or none at all). File:NK New Logo 1.png edit

A formula for calculation the desired size can be found at WP:Image resolution, along with instructions on how to tag the image in the rare cases that it requires an oversized image (typically about 0.2% of non-free uploads are tagged as necessarily oversized). Please contact the bot owner if you have any questions, or you can ask them at Wikipedia talk:Non-free content. See User:RonBot for info on how to not get these messages. Orphaned non-free image File:NK New Logo.png edit

Thanks for uploading File:NK New Logo.png. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

Note that any non-free images not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described in section F5 of the criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. --B-bot (talk) 18:37, 23 November 2018 (UTC)Reply

File permission problem with File:SWA at KTUS (Dan Brownlee).jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:SWA at KTUS (Dan Brownlee).jpg. I noticed that while you provided a valid copyright licensing tag, there is no proof that the creator of the file has agreed to release it under the given license.

If you are the copyright holder for this media entirely yourself but have previously published it elsewhere (especially online), please either

  • make a note permitting reuse under the CC-BY-SA or another acceptable free license (see this list) at the site of the original publication; or
  • Send an email from an address associated with the original publication to permissions-en@wikimedia.org, stating your ownership of the material and your intention to publish it under a free license. You can find a sample permission letter here. If you take this step, add {{permission pending}} to the file description page to prevent premature deletion.

If you did not create it entirely yourself, please ask the person who created the file to take one of the two steps listed above, or if the owner of the file has already given their permission to you via email, please forward that email to permissions-en@wikimedia.org.

If you believe the media meets the criteria at Wikipedia:Non-free content, use a tag such as {{non-free fair use}} or one of the other tags listed at Wikipedia:File copyright tags#Fair use, and add a rationale justifying the file's use on the article or articles where it is included. See Wikipedia:File copyright tags for the full list of copyright tags that you can use.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have provided evidence that their copyright owners have agreed to license their works under the tags you supplied, too. Here is a list of your uploads. Files lacking evidence of permission may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F11 of the criteria for speedy deletion. You may wish to read Wikipedia's image use policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. --Minorax«¦talk¦» 14:31, 28 February 2023 (UTC)Reply

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading File:SkyValue.png.

This image is a derivative work, containing an "image within an image". Examples of such images would include a photograph of a sculpture, a scan of a magazine cover, or a screenshot of a computer game or movie. In each of these cases, the rights of the creator of the original image must be considered, as well as those of the creator of the derivative work.

While the description page states who made this derivative work, it currently doesn't specify who created the original work, so the overall copyright status is unclear. If you did not create the original work depicted in this image, you will need to specify the owner of the copyright.

If you have uploaded other derivative works, consider checking that you have specified their source and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log. Unsourced and untagged images may be deleted one week after they have been tagged, as described in section F4 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If the image is copyrighted under a non-free license (per Wikipedia:Fair use) then the image will be deleted 48 hours after 06:41, 25 August 2023 (UTC). If the file is already gone, you can still make a request for undeletion and ask for a chance to fix the problem. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page.
