Hi Soval.

Interesting to see what a Featured Article radio station article looks like.--Charles (talk) 21:04, 26 June 2014 (UTC)

Thanks, I cannot make a sensible reply for the moment. SovalValtos (talk) 20:59, 27 June 2014 (UTC)

June 2014

Your recent editing history at Shaina NC shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

To avoid being blocked, instead of reverting please consider using the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection. Abhi (talk) 03:57, 28 June 2014 (UTC)

Two edits is hardly a war. Citations are not required in the lead section if they are in the body of the article. What is worth including in the lead is a matter for talk page discussion. This heavy handed warning looks more like an editor trying to own the page.--Charles (talk) 13:53, 28 June 2014 (UTC)
There was incident like this on Unnao gold treasure incident. I created article, story was developing hour by hour, I was searching refs and info, info was changing. And during this hectic period, out of blue, one editor dropped and made some grammatical corrections like 'a, an, the'. With developing story, I changed text. Now this editor got angry and started reverting my edits ONLY because his grammatical corrections were gone. He went to edit warring board, talked about WP:OWN, collaboration. Admin warned me. With this warning, his job was done and he left article like he came. But it broke my interest. I had planned to nominate that article for GA but I abandoned that article. Some editors often abuse editing privileges and wiki policies like WP:OWN to make random edits and force interested and contributing editor to engage in war of words and to eventually force him to abandon article. The editor SovalValtos is like that editor. He came, read lead, removed text saying that it is unreferenced. He didn't bother to read body of article. Wikipedia prefers secondery source, but when I cited existing secondery refs, he asked for primary refs. Because of this unusual request and after checking that his account is just 2 month old, I thought that he don't know WP:3RR. So I posted warning here. I have nominated article for GA review. If user savolvaltos is interested in improving and expanding article, he is welcome. But please don't abuse WP:OWN to make random edits and harass other editor. Thanks. I made a small change at Rustington (since you asked!). A quick search on Google found loads of interesting history on the village if you're interested in taking it on. Best wishes, Tony Holkham (talk) 12:19, 8 September 2014 (UTC)

Hatton Castle, Aberdeenshire

Hi SovalValtos, thanks for looking at Hatton Castle, Aberdeenshire - it's always nice to know someone has been interested in articles. I had been intending to expand it a little further but haven't had time to get back to it yet. McKean actually states "Hatton embraces a substantial part of the ancient house and strong castle of Balquollie, ..." so would you consider reverting your edit, please? Thanks. Spam (food) Article Editing

Hello! I’m Maggie, and I’m part of a group (with Linda, Tiffany, and Kathy) that is working on editing the Spam (food) article as part of a class assignment for INFO 3460.

Thank you for taking a look at our proposal. We noticed that you went ahead and started the manufacturing section that we were planning to add to the article, and just wanted to let you know that we are currently working on expanding this section. When you started the section, what was your vision for it?

Please keep us updated on your plans, and feel free to reach out to us about how we can be collaborating together on this article. Thank you! Mwong850 (talk) 00:26, 25 September 2014 (UTC)

Hello, I'm Tiffany and I am part of the above group. We noticed that you started editing the Manufacturing process section of the Spam article using a source in our bibliography. However, two other user had already pointed out that this source is unreliable. Would you mind if we replaced these edits with reliable sources? Thanks! Tkw32 (talk) 01:34, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
No plans and no vision (yet). From my point of view the best way to help improve the article is to stick to editing it and using the talk page, rather than any other collaboration.SovalValtos (talk) 09:19, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Please remember ladies that nobody owns the page. Discuss on the article talk page.Charles (talk) 09:40, 25 September 2014 (UTC)
Hi there, Charles and SovalValtos! I just wanted to clarify that we decided to specifically post on this user talk page because we wanted to personally reach out to other contributors as we edit the article together, and ask a couple of questions specific to SovalValtos' edits. Our group actually has continuously been updating the article talk page with summaries of our edits throughout this process, so the main article's talk page is our primary means of communicating with others about how to better improve the article, and we would definitely appreciate feedback on our progress there as well. Thanks for expressing your concerns and opinions! - Mwong850 (talk) 19:47, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

London and Provincial Bank Building, Sutton

Good idea about the separate page for this building. Is this a project you would like to/have time to take forward yourself? I notice that historic buildings is one of your interests. A P Monblat (talk) 17:52, 30 September 2014 (UTC)

When you get a spare ten minutes would you please "straighten" this image, as you did for the heritage mural. Thank you.

SV may be too pissed off with your constant fiddling around to feel like running errands for you.Charles (talk) 17:20, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
I am not certain I did right with the Sutton Heritage Mural image. I THINK I re-uploaded it correctly, but I am concerned about the copyright of the Art and whether the image should be used at all. The image of the Twin Towns painting is not good enough to be worth bothering with. It crops a part and has foliage in front. I am too busy with other subjects, and dealing with inadequate references on the Sutton related articles to want to be involved.SovalValtos (talk) 17:36, 1 October 2014 (UTC)
Charles, if you compare the article now with the way it was three years ago, you would have to agree that it is vastly improved. Yes, maybe it is slightly over-engineered, but better the way it is than the way it was any day. It may have too many photos (even after the recent removals), so I will remove a few more including the wonky painting. Btw, have you redirected anyone to Uncyclopedia? Regarding Ray Charles

Hi SovalVatltos,

Could you please help explain what you mean by "biased" posts in the Ray Charles edit we are doing? There is a group project we are in the middle of working for at Cornell University in Ithaca, NY, and we need to make sure the article is up and running by tomorrow - so a reply would be extremely helpful! Thank you so much for your time and contributions

-Cheers Fr237 — Preceding unsigned comment added by Fr237 (talkcontribs) 22:47, 1 October 2014 (UTC)

I would like to be able to help by explaining what I meant by "biased" posts to the Ray Charles page, but as it is not something I have written, I cannot. The page still seems to be up and running with some useful edits being made, so I would not worry about a deadline. There are no deadlines on Wikipedia. Please sign Talk posts with four tildas. Steak

Please undo the revert you just did to Steak and learn what the appropriate usage of reverting someone is. WP:ROWN If you don't think it belongs, it would be something to mention on the talk page. David Condrey (talk) 01:17, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

David CondreyI should have said that yours was a good faith edit and your work is appreciated. So sorry for that. I reverted because I thought it made the article worse, being off topic. I looked at your suggested link WP:ROWN and saw "a reversion is appropriate when the reverter believes that the edit makes the article clearly worse and there is no element of the edit that is an improvement." I still think that is the case but will revert if others think it should be included.SovalValtos (talk) 01:45, 11 October 2014 (UTC)
if it clearly reduces the quality of the article, revert, because it's vandalism. But what your considering worse is a matter of opinion. In my opinion it makes the article better because without it the section is merely 1 sentence and doesn't justify being. I'm going to undo the revert myself. If you still feel strongly about it, it should be discussed on the talk page of the article. If there is better content to replace it, then by all means; but until then I'm just substantiating the section.
you should never revert another editors contributions unless it's vandalism or undebatable. David Condrey (talk) 06:34, 11 October 2014 (UTC)

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. South East Today

Re your removal, If you live in the south of England and watch BBC News, then you will be aware that both Natalie Graham and John Young do appear on BBC South East news. They should be capable of meeting WP:GNG and supporting articles. Would you please reconsider your removal? Mjroots (talk) 08:16, 15 November 2014 (UTC)

User:Mjroots Thank you for getting in touch on my talk page. It sounds like it should be fairly straight forward to either make pages for them both, or find sources that they are notable. Without sources we simply don't know that they are notable and such entries may be WP:BLP violations. As it happens I do not know of the people concerned, so no original research from me, and easier to take a neutral stance. So to conclude I would be delighted to revert when someone finds the necessary sources. SovalValtos (talk) 12:17, 16 November 2014 (UTC)
I agree that it would be original research or hearsay to include them without having their own articles written first. In terms of recentism there is no reason to list current staff over those in the past. We are not going to cover all of them, only the most notable. Wikipedia is after all not a directory or a media guide.Charles (talk) 14:09, 16 November 2014 (UTC)

Commerical radio stations

I strongly disagree with your edits to pages of certain commercial radio stations. If a page should only list those presenters that 'demonstrate a notability' (or seemingly in this case, have a Wiki page of their own), it leaves the page in question incomplete. I understand the need to avoid becoming a directory of sorts but some of your actions suggest pedancy, are based on a weak argument and completely ignore the interests of other editors. 78.147.69.70 (talk) 07:05, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Keep up the good work, SV. It is extremely bad form of User 78.147.69.70 of Denbigh to anonymously accuse (unfairly in my view) an editor of pedantry, especially when the accusation is unsupported - what edits, what stations, what weaknesses, which other editors? I know you're quite capable of answering the comment (or not) yourself, but I don't like sniping. All the best. Tony Holkham (talk) 11:14, 30 November 2014 (UTC)

Hello SovalValtos, Many thanks for reverting the unsourced POV edits on the Weymouth, Dorset article. I believe this is the same IP editor who has tried to insert his pet subject before - each time without references or sources - and each time being reverted. Trust Ratings

Hello SovalValtos, i have updated the awards and recognition section of a few brands, including the Johnnie Walker page, since it is a significant recognition in India for a brand to be listed in the Brand Trust Report. Some of these brands also work with the publishers of this report to improve their overall trust scores. It is not supposed to a any kind of a spam, infact there are various trusted news articles across for reference apart from the original website. Native language - Welsh

Hi SV - I saw you removed from the Carwyn Jones lead reference to his being a native Welsh speaker. It may be notable in that the "native language" of many Welsh people (my wife, for example) is English, and so can be a point of contention sometimes (being English, I take no stand on the point!). Just thought I'd mention it in case you get any flak. Cheers, Tony... Tony Holkham (talk) 13:50, 21 December 2014 (UTC)

End of first year editing

As the first year that I have edited closes, I would like to thank those that have helped me. Too many to name all, but User:Charlesdrakew greeted me early on and has been a rock to rely on. User:Tony Holkham introduced me to lifeboat stations and a writer's approach. What a work rate! I can never aspire to living up to the teahouse sages, who perhaps collectively deserve the Nobel peace prize. Assume good faith has been a great motto, and when too difficult I have learned to drop a dead rat, by removing pages from my watchlist. I just hope I have contributed as much as I have been given. A New Year resolution might be for me to learn referencing! SovalValtos (talk) 04:40, 24 December 2014 (UTC)

Operation Mascot

Hi, I appreciate your changes to this article, but it might be best if you queried material rather than change it with a question about its validity as you did in [1] and [2]: the sources you asked about back these up, and it would be better to discuss it than to have reverts going on. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 23:57, 2 January 2015 (UTC)

Similarly, given that the article is at FAC, it might be best if you made comments there rather than cn bombed the article as you did in [3] (this causes the 'citation needed' tag to appear, which isn't what you appear to intend). Nick-D (talk) 23:59, 2 January 2015 (UTC)
(It was a good point though, which I've hopefully addressed) Nick-D (talk) 00:06, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
There has been an edit conflict which at my level of competence I cannot cope with. I tried to say "Nick-D I will suspend editing Mascot for a while to reflect." SovalValtos (talk) 00:12, 3 January 2015 (UTC)
OK, sorry about that - I was keen to remove the cn tag given that this is at FAC. Nick-D (talk) 00:15, 3 January 2015 (UTC)

Commons categories

Good morning, SV. Can you help me understand Commons categories? If (in Commons) I type in Petersfield, I get a handful of pics, yet they don't seem to have Category:Petersfield on their edit page. And I know there are many pics of Petersfield, yet some seem to have obscure categories like Category:Tilmore Road, Petersfield. I felt I was in a maze and presumably am missing something simple. My question is not specific to Petersfield, of course, as I like to look for pics to illustrate other articles I'm interested in, but I find Commons very confusing. Cheers, Tony Holkham (Talk) 11:13, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

I am probably at about the same level of understanding. I have picked up that the filing system is strictly hierarchical. Suggest Teahouse or the commons editor you had contact with previously.SovalValtos (talk) 14:40, 8 March 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for that. I was just trying to do the same when the second part of your help came through. Are there many other Wikipedia pages I wonder that link to similar less useful versions in Commons? I do not yet understand what the position of the unhelpful version is in the firmament. SovalValtos (talk) 20:44, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
To editor SovalValtos: and To editor Charlesdrakew: - thank you both. A little clearer now. Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:02, 8 March 2015 (UTC)
There are a lot of rubbish images on commons, many of them moved over from the Geograph project. I suppose a page showcasing the best images could be good if anyone had the time and inclination to do so. It does need a clear link to the full category though.Charles (talk) 08:38, 9 March 2015 (UTC)

Thanks for the prod User:Dwpaul A bit beyond me are UID and URL. I need a coaching session on refs. I would pick it up quickly then. The Cit I finally used strictly does not cover the other 30 Listed Buildings. 31 for a village of 179 people! I am sure another 30 refs is not the way to go. Probably synthesis? SovalValtos (talk) 13:16, 17 March 2015 (UTC)
URL = Uniform Resource Locator = a Web address. In this case http://list.historicengland.org.uk/resultsingle_print.aspx?uid=1122802&showMap=1&showText=1. The UID is a value in the URL that identifies the specific record(s) that is/are to be returned when the URL is accessed: uid=1122802. This was absent the first two times, so no one other than you could reproduce the results you were seeing as a result of your search. The Historic England database may not be constructed in such a way to easily return all 31 structures in a single search by URL. Would be better to supply a source (news article, etc.) that talks about the 31 structures (if such exists) rather than try to link to the database. Dwpaul Talk 13:55, 17 March 2015 (UTC)

Sarah Champion (politician)

Your edit summary "Replacing 'more neutral language' with the original accurate reflection of the source" would imply my wording didn't appear in the source. In fact the word claimed is used in the first paragraph, ahead of the phrase billed the taxpayer. Given the impending general election I believe it more important than ever to adhere to NPOV and avoid dog-whistle phrases. Please reconsider. Bazj (talk) 18:27, 20 March 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for the above Bazj. I will look at it again, but not tonight. SovalValtos (talk) 18:40, 20 March 2015 (UTC)
Bazj I think either term could be justified, both being in the source, but I have replaced claimed. I tried to find whether what she had done was actually illegal; I suspect not, just going against some form of guidance.
I have learned a new term in dog-whistle phrase, it rather shows up the current style of BBC journalism or editing. Other potential sources might have been more critical of her than the BBC source I added. I do not have the opinion that just, negative language in a source should be sanitised due to external circumstances. You may have noticed I added a sentence showing her intention to repay. Anyway we shall see in due course what other editors make of it. Thank you. SovalValtos (talk) 11:27, 21 March 2015 (UTC)

In light of our exchange here I thought I should let you know about a caution I've placed on the talk page of the vandalising IP you've reverted. I was in two minds whether to place it on the user's or the article's talk page. I'd appreciate a second impartial view (and a third please Keri). If you feel the vandal-campaign link needs a wider audience I'd have no objection to it appearing on the article's talk as well. Regards, Bazj (talk) 07:44, 1 April 2015 (UTC)

  • Viz the ip: I had hoped that the welcome banner placed on the ip's talk page would encourage them to be more reflective about their content removal, but 3 days later they did it again. As they still refused to engage in discussion, I escalated the cautions from 'content removal' to 'edit warring'. Should they persist then the next step will be to seek a block for edit warring against consensus.
  • Viz the claim made by Sarah Champion: It was definitely a massive gaffe on someone's part - be it her or one of her staffers. It shouldn't have been a surprise to anyone that reimbursal for Remembrance wreaths was not permitted by IPSA - Ed Balls, Boris Johnson, Tom Levitt, Shahid Malik, Jeremy Browne and Charles Kennedy to name but a few all made national news in 2009 for doing the same thing, and this was dredged up again in 2014 when Caroline Dinenage tried to claim for sympathy cards sent to bereaved constituents. I haven't looked at any of the a/m pages to see if the incidents are reported there, by the way, although my opinion is that they should be. Keri (talk) 10:02, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
  • Should also add that, given her predecessor was Denis MacShane, whose resignation forced the by-election which Champion won, information about the nature of her expense claims has a high relevance, imo. Keri (talk) 10:24, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
I am not sure that I can be of much use in dealing with cautions. I have only been editing for just about a year. I think it was right to put the caution on the user's talk page. Should this section be copied across to the article's talk page? SovalValtos (talk) 12:40, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
For now I think it's okay to keep it here. It's the pre-election silly season and articles for politicians up and down the country are likely to be receiving flurries of... 'sanitising edits' until May. Keri (talk) 13:03, 1 April 2015 (UTC)
The latest COI editor on the article shares initials with a contact noted on the website. Just making a note here in case the coi-editing escalates. Regards, Bazj (talk) 17:56, 26 April 2016 (UTC)

Coordinates

Hi SV. I may be being dim, but I don't know how to find coordinates for a village I've seen on Google maps so I can add it to the UK locations list. It is Sardis, in Burton Community, near the Cleddau (not to be confused with Sardis near Saundersfoot). I'm sure it's simple, but I can't fathom it. Can you help? Thanks, T. Tony Holkham (Talk) 23:03, 25 April 2015 (UTC)

Aha. myPostcodefinder gave me some coords. But is there a proper way? Tony Holkham (Talk) 23:16, 25 April 2015 (UTC)
User:Tony Holkham I do not know if there is a proper, or another simple way as I am fortunate to have access to complete coverage of the UK on OS 1:25000 and 1:50000 with a searchable gazetteer which gives Sardis, Carm and Sardis, Pemb, so I just use that. Having found them I can move my pointer which can be made to display the cords in various formats, eg British National Grid and decimal latitude and longitude, which are the two most used. I expect there is a similar facility in Google or Postcodefinder, but I have not had to find it and finding out takes a lot of time. Not the answer perhaps that you were seeking, but maybe another answer is to use collaboration rather than waste your fine editing and creating skills on background techy stuff. I am happy to provide cords to the appropriate level of accuracy, if not at the rate or immediacy you might like. I have real life sometimes? I am also (!) prepared to work on commons cats now that I have started to understand how they work. SovalValtos (talk) 12:41, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for that good advice, and for your offer of look-ups. I won't plague you with requests as most places are well-documented. Sardis led me a merry dance. While I love to look at maps, I don't really understand the technical side. Tony Holkham (Talk) 13:02, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Having lauded the OS, their gazetteer does not include the one near Rosemarket, even as Sardis Cross, just two others. I see there is a Guilford (sic) nearby. SovalValtos (talk) 13:13, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Interesting. Google street view confirms it actually exists (I always check to see whether the village nameplates are there). Guilford seems to be a suburb of Johnston. I will look into that one. Tony Holkham (Talk) 13:25, 26 April 2015 (UTC)
Re above, Guilford is not a separate settlement, but part of Johnston. Tony Holkham (Talk) 13:42, 26 April 2015 (UTC)

Commons categories

You're doing brilliantly on your Commons categories work, and thanks for your input in the articles I'm creating. Definition of "minor edits"

You reverted my edits of the Giovanni Bianchini article, saying my summary ("Minor edits") was misleading. I still think nothing substantial was changed by me, and that the summary was justified. JmCor (talk) 03:20, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

User:JmCor I think you contribution was valuable but included was a modification of content by the addition of a second work. Help:Minor edit makes it clear that if this is happening the summary should not be marked as a minor edit. Best wishes SovalValtos (talk) 09:43, 21 May 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for your response. I cancelled your revert with what I hope is a proper summary referring to this discussion. JmCor (talk) 14:53, 21 May 2015 (UTC)

Petersfield Town F.C.

I have reverted your undo of Petersfield Town F.C., as the change in kits of Petersfield Town F.C. was done to reflect the clubs current kits of the 2015-16 season. You can view the current kits on the Petersfield Town F.C. website photos section, with the away kit shown in the game against Sholing F.C. and the home kit shown in the game against Rushden & Diamonds F.C., I hope this is satisfactory to yourself.

User:StuartGriffin93 I will not pursue this further at present as I have other things to do, but I doubt a photo on a club website would be considered a reliable independent source by some. SovalValtos (talk) 10:56, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Bentworth/Ives

Thanks for fixing that - I'm ashamed to admit it's not a subject I know anything about; you might want to have a look at the George Cecil Ives article ... it made me cringe. SagaciousPhil - Chat 10:38, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Nor I, User:Sagaciousphil, I just read the sources. I thought it might be possible to read the ODNB online without subscription via a library membership, but it looks like one has to visit one's library for access. The Ives article makes one cringe for its poor sourcing if for no other reason. At least Bentworth is improving. SovalValtos (talk) 10:50, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
I thought most UK libraries allowed access via their online resources? If you are in the UK and your own main library doesn't offer the facility, it is possible for any UK resident to register with Manchester City library and obtain access to it's online resources that include ODNB, Who was Who, The Times digital archive, etc. SagaciousPhil - Chat 11:00, 9 September 2015 (UTC)
Thank you for that User:Sagaciousphil SovalValtos (talk) 11:05, 9 September 2015 (UTC)

Your contribution at the Teahouse

Thank you for your contribution at Wikipedia:Teahouse/Questions#Lost my User page. You should know that any Wikipedian is welcome to answer questions there (or offer related information, as you did) if they know the answer; it is not necessary to be an official host. I myself am not an official host, but visit the Teahouse regularly to see if I can help anyone. —GrammarFascist contribstalk 13:49, 29 September 2015 (UTC)

Thank you for that GrammarFascist. Master Hosts do such a fine job being both friendly and knowledgeable that I would not like to be mistaken for one and required to follow up in areas where I lack. On this occasion I thought it worthwhile just to point out the possible COI which regular hosts may not have seen. I hesitated because the editor that raised the original question may have had enough on his plate to discourage him without me adding more. Finally I thought it best to mention COI now rather than him finding out later. Generally I just look and learn, but will never be up to the standard of a Host. I will try to add as much references possible subsequently. Hope this revert doesn't sound rude to you. regardsDevopam (talk) 15:44, 28 October 2015 (UTC)

User:Devopam Thank you for contacting me. I see that another editor has removed many entries again. There seems to be some confusion caused by the list being headed 'Landmarks' when many of the entries are clearly no such thing, rather being notable businesses. In principle I think it better to leave entries off until a cit is found. It would be nice if the article could be written in prose rather than as a list. Thank you for assuming good faith User:Eddaido. As I said above, I did it because I thought it improved the article. I still do. ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. Thanks. I've seen it before, and found it interesting, but very slow (but that's maybe just my browser or connection speed - superslow broadband here). Tony Holkham (Talk) 19:57, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
I had not forgotten about your low speed connection User:Tony Holkham and I think a dated computer in subtraction. I am blessed with fibre and a two year old reasonable, but not fancy, laptop. Wikipedia has the quickest response of any site I use. After the initial connection, which might take two seconds to setup, (cookies?), clicking on a link or backwards/forwards etc achieves the wanted result quick enough to 'satisfy my desire' (When I Take My Morning Promenade-Marie Lloyd). It is far quicker than ebay for example. I am adding 'located' to 'also' on my list of Bete Noire. Thank you for the Evan James Williams article. SovalValtos (talk) 20:59, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
You may have seen the non-Wiki-includable (couldn't think of a better phrase) snippet on Evan James Williams that I put on Gareth Griffiths-Jones's talk page - my mother (as a child) knew Williams (Blackett, too, I believe) and was very impressed by him. EBay works fine for me, but maps are sometimes problematic. My system is rather dated, but still adequate, and it seems as though my exchange will be the very last in the country to receive Superfast Cymru broadband. The countryside and the quiet, however, is compensation enough. I was reverted the other day for deleting 'located'; I let it go. Regards, Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:10, 24 November 2015 (UTC)
It was the 'snippet' that meant most to me. Exquisite. Yes, I am learning to let it go; if our generation is to be 'clods washed away by the sea' so be it. Donne for now. SovalValtos (talk) 21:33, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

WINC (AM)‎ (Part 2)

Not sure why you feel the need to edit-war with me over the size of a image, especially on a Featured Article. Why you feel shrinking an image down to the point that it almost can't be seen is necessary, when no one else had a problem for over a year. But since you had problems making a "sensible reply" a year ago, I'm hoping you can make one now. - NeutralhomerTalk • 22:40, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

I was trying to keep a FA that I value as a FA and will continue to do so. It was not the size that was the problem, it was the manner in which it was being done with forcing. I indicated that in my edit summary. Thankfully another editor has been able to suitably correct the problem. SovalValtos (talk) 13:03, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Great storm

Hello - your recent reversion states that felling implies human intervention. Felling means "to cause to fall", and the sentence grammar is clear and unambiguous; that the storm did the felling. Sometimes people are also "felled" by a heart-attack or stroke. On the other hand "downing" is not a word at all, which I assume is why you suggest alternatives. You may of course insert such a term as an editor yourself, or simply look into the meaning of the word that I have used, but reversion is not necessary on the grounds of language. I have never changed the name of a page myself User:Bodhi Sphere but it is easily done. You can best get help from a very useful place [5] where there are some fantastic editors with the patience to help. It is a topic that comes up frequently. I keep watch on the Teahouse page myself as a way of learning about editing. You may also come across or contact User:Tony Holkham who has done much good work on RNLI and other rescue pages. One tip; when adding something to a talk page, but not when doing normal edits, please sign at the end with four tildas. It leaves your user name and the time of your edit. A robot (bot) seems to do it in due course anyway, but the etiquette is to do it oneself. As you may have guessed I am a beginner myself and added the ref to the WMSAR page in a manner that is not the best. I was concerned the page might be lost without any refs. SovalValtos (talk) 00:41, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

I have reverted this change. Copy and paste moves this way are not the appropriate way to move pages on Wikipedia. There is no evidence to suggest that the name has even changed. Suggest starting a requested move in this situation. I'm going to seek page protection in the short term. Jeni (talk) 01:27, 14 December 2015 (UTC)

Hello. Regarding some of the reverts you made: you may already know about them, but you might find Wikipedia:Template messages/User talk namespace useful. After a revert, these can be placed on the user's talk page to let them know you considered their edit inappropriate, and also direct new users towards the sandbox. They can also be used to give a stern warning to a vandal when they've been previously warned. Thank you. Class455fan1 (talk) 11:41, 10 January 2016 (UTC)

I just thought i'd leave you this because i saw that you have reverted vandalism in the past, but you never warned the user, so i just wanted to make you aware that there are warnings available in case you revert vandalism. Alternatively, you can install Twinkle in the "Gadgets" section of your preferences area. As well as warning users, you can give them notices (like this one), welcome them and much more. I don't have anything that old - many are pilots' charts given to me (they were destined for the bin). I will find a good home for them eventually. I am well known for throwing nothing away - not always popular with nearest and dearest... Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:35, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
Sorry to interfere - now you have two Carl Donnelly sections.. Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:37, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
I am assuming the charts you have are nautical rather than aero-nautical. I have no good idea of the copyright situation but I guess from analogy with the OS that they could be scanable if pre 50s and used in port articles to give a historical perspective and give further custom to the RNLI where shoals have changed! SovalValtos (talk) 22:11, 25 January 2016 (UTC)
I should have explained "pilots". They are (civilian) aeronautical, from an ex-RAF friend. Next time I'm in the loft I will look at them more closely and let you have more details. They're quite big and I think there's pretty wide coverage of the UK. Tony Holkham (Talk) 22:24, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Carl Donnelly

Hi Soval, I was trying to update Carl Donnelly's wikipedia page today with a few credits and news, having noticed it was out of date. I've since been looking through the wikipedia guidelines which I hadn't read yet and will aim to include more references with neutral information on a future edit. Apologies for any novice mistakes I made.

Before a comprehensive update, I do want to remove the current final sentence that has said "citation needed" for over a year but I didn't want to make any more edits that you might revert and give the wrong impression as to my valid attempts to update the page. Should I go ahead and remove it or will you?

Thanks, Haznoz (talk) 21:25, 25 January 2016 (UTC)Haznoz

Thank you for getting in touch Haznoz. No editor will ever be up to date with all the policies and guidelines, we can just do our best and accept reverts when we get it wrong. Do you have any personal connection with Carl Donnelly, which might lead to a WP:COI? Meanwhile I am removing the un-cited sentence. SovalValtos (talk) 21:50, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Witley Park

Re. your recent edit, are you sure that the man referenced did live at Witley Park (the house), rather than somewhere in the area of Witley Park? I've no idea myself but the owner of Witley Park may take exception to the imputation if you are incorrect. KJP1 (talk) 12:37, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

KJP1 The article is about Witley Park the estate. My edit did not mention any particular house. There seem to be several Witley Park houses. At least " 'Witley Park House', a Modern movement home designed by Patrick Gwynne " and "a new house on the site of the old mansion was granted around 2004 and is now completed" are mentioned in the article. A number of other houses are shown on maps. I was going by the Surrey Police source which may or may not be considered reliable. It mentions 'Piers Ravenhill, 43, of Witley Park in Thursley' which was unambiguous as far as I could see, so not a question of me being correct, but rather the source. SovalValtos (talk) 13:11, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Hum. The "estate" is the estate of (i.e. the land surrounding) Witley Park, the house. And the article is about the house and its estate - not any old housing estate in the Thurley area that may, or may not I've no idea, be an area called Witley Park. I would suggest that your addition clearly implies that the man arrested was resident at Witley Park house. If you are fine with it, so be it. Your edit, your call. KJP1 (talk) 14:08, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Another thought. If there is an area of Thurley called Witley Park, the Surrey Police statement would be right. But they didn't reference a particular house and estate, that was done by your post. Looking at the police notice, I see the individual you've named used to live in a bungalow in Ash. That's quite some upward mobility, if you're right. KJP1 (talk) 14:18, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
There seem to be two contiguous areas called Witley Park, one in Witley civil parish and the other in Thursley CP {https://www.ordnancesurvey.co.uk/election-maps/gb/#map]. My post did not reference any particular house as you assert.SovalValtos (talk) 14:53, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Really! When you have added your edit to an article titled Witley Park, which then begins "Witley Park was a 19th-century house and is an estate in Surrey, between Godalming and Haslemere". If you're not referencing the house, your edit doesn't belong in the article. If you are referencing the house, you need to be certain your source is too. And I don't think it is. I really would recommend reverting your edit. KJP1 (talk) 15:06, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Don't know if this helps either way, but there are other properties on the area/estate called "Witley Park" - Lake Cottages, for example, and at least one farm, and not just the main house. Tony Holkham (Talk) 15:24, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Absolutely, the estate is large, was even larger, and has a large number of buildings on it. But the article is about the house, and its estate, that is the original Wright mansion, its replacement, and the very new house that, after a high-profile planning case, has been constructed in the last few years. My issue is that, reading SovalValtos's edit, in the context of the article in which he has placed it, could lead readers to assume that the individual convicted of drug supply was resident at the house which is the subject of the article. And that, I think, could be problematic, unless we are very sure of our facts. KJP1 (talk) 15:46, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Perhaps the problem can be circumvented by simply dropping the phrase was a 19th-century house and from the lead, which needs expanding. Tony Holkham (Talk) 16:03, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
Why would we remove a useful and relevant fact, in order to retain a, probably irrelevant, and potentially misleading fact? The problem would be better resolved by reverting the edit that has caused the problem. KJP1 (talk) 16:28, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
The reason for my suggestion was that, because (as I understand it from the refs given) there never was a house called Witley Park, just an estate called Witley Park. If this is the case, the lead is wrong. (BTW I suggest this discussion is copied over to the article's talk page and continued there.) Tony Holkham (Talk) 16:45, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
"Witley Park" was the name of the house and of the estate that surrounded it. As can be seen here [8]. It isn't at all uncommon for "Park" to be the term for both the house and the estate, e.g. Grimston Park, Yorkshire, Broome Park, Kent, Gatcombe Park, Gloucestershire, Clytha Park, Monmouthshire, Bletchley Park, Buckinghamshire and many others. KJP1 (talk) 17:25, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
I'm afraid the reference to the boat house doesn't support the contention that the main house was called Witley Park as the boathouse is on the lake, some distance from the main house (see Google maps, "Witley Park", satellite view). But we can't debate this ad infinitum, so I'm going to leave it there. I do think this discussion should appear on Talk:Witley Park, though, as those interested in the architectural WikiProject may like to see it, so I am copying it there. Best wishes, Tony Holkham (Talk) 17:40, 31 January 2016 (UTC)
"HISTORY: This is one of a series of estate buildings built for the financier and speculator, James Whitaker Wright (1846-1904) at Lea Park, later renamed Witley Park. The old house was pulled down and a new one built for him circa 1890 by H Paxton Watson in the neo-Tudor style." (My bold italics). I'll also leave it there. Best regards. KJP1 (talk) 17:50, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

Sure. Take as long as you need. But don't forget the issue is not the name of the house, but the wisdom, or otherwise, of your edit. KJP1 (talk) 22:56, 31 January 2016 (UTC)

edit to a local farm

edit to local farm of rye east sussex

hi

i'm a local man from rye and i can see why you say this would be advertising, i must say i have no involvement with this farm but just thought how rye should boast on having a local fruit farm that i have heard supplies local bushiness's with fruit and the fact that they have a hop farm that has been around for centuries. i'm in an understanding the hops make a local beer called harveys, i was going to do more research on the farm and write up more about them as for me to have a local fruit farm that during summer months supplies most of the fruits to restaurants ect, (well they do in camber at least and a few in rye that i know of) and for rye to have a hop farm that creates the hops for harveys which again to me seems to be a local beer which most pubs sell (which again i was going to write up about after more research)

perhaps i wrong in thinking of adding these as a benefit to rye but the way i saw it is if someone looked at rye and then also saw this it could bring more tourists and more reason to visit rye, and further more just more local information on rye.

this was going to be and on going edit of a little history of local farms to rye

look forward to a response or helping me make rye east sussex section a little better — Preceding unsigned comment added by 89.168.85.132 (talk) 01:26, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your message. If you can find writing about the history of the farms in depth in national papers or books you may be able to add something about them to Wikipedia. Otherwise your intention of promoting Rye might be better done on the Chamber of Commerce website, or suchlike. Please could you sign messages with four tildes? Good luck.SovalValtos (talk) 08:53, 6 February 2016 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. I shall see what i can find. I love Wikipedia and just wanted to add something somewhere as i use it so much. It was going to be a little hobby for me. Starting with the local farm and then building onto its hops and beer and then further more to its fruits ect ect. I'm not to fussed to be honest as i just said was going to be a little hobby. if i find stuff then i may do something if not no worries. As to adding it to the Chamber of Commerce website its not my business and that would be advertising for them, That's their job and that can't spill off to an ongoing hobby..... farm to hops to beer ect. If i do a bit of research and speak with them, i may give them advise to add it on there. Maybe this research will turn into a little hobby for me. Anyway thanks. Agreeing with Mjroots. If the accident caused injury to people on the tram and if the RAIB are investigating, which i think they are, then it should be notable enough for inclusion. Don't see why there is a big issue out of nothing here. Class455fan1 (talk) 13:32, 9 February 2016 (UTC)
I think we should take this to talk:Tramlink and thrash the issue out there. Give me 10 minutes. Mjroots (talk) 13:39, 9 February 2016 (UTC)

Ashurst Wood

Wondering why you are editing the "neighbourhood plan section" I added last week? The Group you are talking about isn't an official entity which isn't recognised as being a reviewer of the plan. Looks like this has been removed by the Local goverment officer and you've reversed it he removal as being an opinion when it could be argued that the group is actually a one person campaign DerekWailes (talk) 08:42, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

(talk page stalker)I am minded to remove all this village plan stuff. Wikipedia is not a platform for local campaigning or news. This is WP:Recentism in my opinion. If anything comes out of the plans and is reliably sourced then it can be added.Charles (talk) 08:59, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
It wasn't intended to be a campaign. the origional article had a reference to an outdated villige plan which is long dead. the neighbourhood plan is an official legal document (even in draft form). http://www.planningportal.gov.uk/inyourarea/neighbourhood/. So, yes, I agree its not suppossed to be a platform for campaigning or news, but would like the article to be factual. If, in your opinion, that means the plan section should go then so be it. My intention was to simply get the article up to date and perhaps I was being a bit hasty if this is considered WP:Recentism. It does look odd in retrospect. Should I remove it or you? - . DerekWailes (talk) 09:13, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
I am about to copy this to the Ashurst Wood talk page and will reply there. SovalValtos (talk) 12:11, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

Commons category for Morvil (and Morfil), Pembrokeshire

Can I ask a favour, if you have time? There are photos of Morvil (article just created) and Morfil (a spelling variation, but not to be confused with the Senegalese island Morfil!) on Commons, but no category. Last time I tried to set one up I made a mess and am likely to do so again. Would you do it? The category needs to be Morvil to avoid confusion, but pics of Morfil need to be included. I hope you can help. Thanks. Tony Holkham (Talk) 15:12, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

That's very kind - I appreciate it. I suppose I should learn to do it. Tony Holkham (Talk) 20:28, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
I have added a new commons category "Morvil, Pembrokeshire" and put in it as many images as I can identify that belong. Some of the images in Category:Castlebythe might also belong, particulary those of the abandoned railway, but without individually checking coords which would be time consuming for me, I cannot be sure, so I have not added them. Coords in image files are often not accurate anyway. This file [File:Old Morfil (1) - geograph.org.uk - 650498.jpg] has some text that might be worth your seeing. I have not done anything separate for Morfil, but I have included Morfil images in Morvil. No guarantee I got them all as sometimes adding them individually as I did did not work as expected. Hopefully there are category specialists in commons who upgrade categorisation?SovalValtos (talk) 20:35, 12 February 2016 (UTC)
Thanks again. I think I can add pics to a category without causing chaos. I will have a look at Castlebythe. Tony Holkham (Talk) 20:38, 12 February 2016 (UTC)

London Buses route 7

Hi Soval, I just wanted to let you know that the books I added do indeed exist. I have a copy of them! See http://www.mdsbooks.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/10747/s/Red%20All%20Over%204%20-%20London%20Bus%20Review%202014/ The ISBN13 is also there. Many Thanks. Class455fan1 (talk) 13:00, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

Class455fan1 So far I have only queried one of the cites, the one containing 'Red All Over, The London Bus Guide of 2014', having found it was faulty was enough to revert the whole addition. As I said in my edit summary [9] a book with that title does not seem to exist. Nothing that you have added suggests that it does. A protestation that you have a copy is not enough. I suggest you read the title of the book again, revert your addition, and be more careful with adding book sources, as many editors and readers will take them on trust. I hope you do not consider the above too harsh. Your edits are valued. SovalValtos (talk) 13:35, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Sorry, I may have put the wrong title in. Its "Red All Over, The London Bus Review of 2014", not guide. That may be why you couldn't find it. It definitely exists though. The ISBN is only recognised on sites from where its sold, such as the one above. It is only sold from Transport shops, it seems. I bought mine online from the company itself, and previous editions I bought from the London Transport Museum. I intended to cite all vehicle allocations etc before Monday, before they get removed. I will resume adding citations on other articles after I get some lunch. Class455fan1 (talk) 13:40, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Class455fan1 Given your acceptance that the edits were faulty, please remove them from London Buses route 7 and only replace them with the most carefully checked edits when you have had time so to do. SovalValtos (talk) 13:55, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
Already done. Ive corrected the title of the book. Hope that helps. It appears that I may have done the same to route 8, as I cut and pasted it and changed the page numbers as they are in my book. I will correct this in a while. The other book I have added though "The London Bus Guide" is correct. Many thanks! Class455fan1 (talk) 13:58, 27 February 2016 (UTC)
I intend to copy this soon to [Talk:London Buses route 7] as I think it should be continued there. SovalValtos (talk) 20:45, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

A brownie for you!

Thank you for pointing out my earlier errors. Sorry for the mix-up. Enjoy this brownie! Class455fan1 (talk) 14:03, 27 February 2016 (UTC)

IAPS

Is it fair to call the recent edit to IAPS' page 'self-sourced puffery'? I'm not sure where else we can reference information from, if not the source itself. My understanding is IAPS schools have to achieve the highest level of inspection report from the Independent Schools Inspectorate, thus validating their claim to represent 'leading' prep schools. Interested to hear your thoughts. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Antic Anion (talkcontribs) 16:21, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

I assume Antic Anion the edit you are referring to is [10]. The source given in it is the IAPS itself; in their own words 'IAPS is on hand to promote and defend the sector'; [11] in my opinion using the term 'leading' here is promotional and should not be used in Wikipedia's voice. IAPS is one of several associations represented by the Independent Schools Council (also a promotional body) all of whose 1200 schools are said to be 'ranked among the best in the world', by the ISC itself [12]. It looks like all the schools are leaders and none are followers!
IAPS looks to be sufficiently reputable to use as a source for certain simple facts. It is not a source that should be used instead of WP:RS. If a reliable source cannot be found, then the material should be omitted. SovalValtos (talk) 19:53, 1 March 2016 (UTC)SovalValtos (talk) 19:55, 1 March 2016 (UTC)

Antony Green

This article by Antony Green (Australia's foremost psephologist) from http://blogs.abc.net.au/antonygreen/ despite being labelled a "blog" is a WP:RS. Articles from http://blogs.abc.net.au/antonygreen/ have widely been used as WP:RS uncountable times and is universally accepted as a clear WP:RS in Australia. If you have an issue using articles from http://blogs.abc.net.au/antonygreen/ as WP:RS then I highly suggest you raise your concern at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian politics. Until you have consensus otherwise, the current and very long term consensus for these articles is that they are WP:RS, which I suggest you familiarise yourself with, particularly "Some news outlets host interactive columns they call blogs, and these may be acceptable as sources so long as the writers are professional journalists or are professionals in the field on which they write and the blog is subject to the news outlet's full editorial control". Timeshift (talk) 18:45, 3 March 2016 (UTC)

Thank you Timeshift for your input and your helpful suggestions. I accept that some material originating from ABC and Green can be used as a reliable source, not just in Australia but on Wikipedia all over. SovalValtos (talk) 12:42, 4 March 2016 (UTC)

Sheila Stewart: A Home from Home

Thanks for your note about the webpage. My first effort!

This book has been out of print for some time and is not easy to find a copy. I tracked one down at a library at the University of Michigan and asked for a inter-library loan. Lo and behold! Just today I got a photocopy of the book!! Sadly, the four photographs did not make it, but a couple are in the Daily Telegraph obit. I guess I ought to scan the photocopies. Let me know if you cannot find a copy of the real book. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Suredev (talkcontribs) 20:23, 7 March 2016 (UTC)

You have been braver than me Suredev creating a new article. I concentrate on things other than article creation. I found that the book was scarce. Clunderwen railway station

Re Clunderwen railway station, are staggered platforms common, do you know? I've never seen this layout in a station before (not that I often travel by rail). If it's unusual, perhaps it's worthy of mention in the article. Tony Holkham (Talk) 01:43, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Not something I have thought about before. There are plenty of Google results for 'Staggered platforms' but a quick look gave no firm answer as to why Clunderwen has them. Probably not for a level crossing as the c1905 six inch map shows the bridge. The goods yard to the northwest may well have squeezed the space for that platform. To answer your question it looks likely they are not uncommon. SovalValtos (talk) 06:01, 10 March 2016 (UTC)

Ext link on RAF Culmhead

Hi, I noticed your edit on RAF Culmhead removing the ext link to The SW Airfields Trust info on the site with an edit summary of "Removing linkspam per WP:EL". I've put it back as I think it provides useful additional information, from a reputable charity, which we don't have in the article & don't think it qualifies as linkspam. Happy to discuss on talk if you disagree.— Rod talk 21:26, 15 March 2016 (UTC)

Thanks for getting in touch Rod. I do not feel sufficiently strongly about this to put energy into arguing the point so will accept your revert, but what does the EL contain that cannot be integrated into the article, and why should it being by a charity have an effect? Another editor may want to stick closer to the guidelines and delete it again; we shall see. There are higher priorities for both of us to work on. SovalValtos (talk) 09:21, 16 March 2016 (UTC)

Did you ever manage to figure out how to get a url from this site? Others have been asking about this (e.g. see Talk:Grade I listed buildings in Neath Port Talbot). I just wanted to know what were your plans with this specific wikipedia article. Recently I have been editing the Toseland, Cambridgeshire wikipedia article as part of my uiversity assignment and before I can add information to the article it keeps being removed by you. In regards of the my recent edit (The geography of Toseland) I was about to cite the information I obtained but I could not due to that information being deleted. User:Billo-Conteh.M I trust you are enjoying your course. It is best to cite information when adding it rather than planning to do so later, particularly when as I pointed out there is no obvious relevance to Toseland. The restaurants you mentioned, Indian Rajdouth and the The Horseshoe Inn are in other settlements. If you can find sources for there being hotels in the high street it might be OK to add them, but remember Wikipedia is not a shopping guide WP:NOTGUIDE. Editing articles with talk page education assignment banners

Hi SovalValtos. Thank-you for the help you have been giving some of our students on their Wikipedia parish article assignments. Please can we request that this week you make comments and suggestions to them on how to improve their article rather than removing things completely as they are currently trying to finalize their work in order to hand in the assignments due in this Monday (25th April). Thank-you very much, Paula vob 16:20, 21 April 2016 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Paula vob (talkcontribs)

Humphrey Southall. Hi Paula vob I see that you are an instructor on the course. Please sign your comments with four tildes on talk pages. I am aware of having edited two of the pages that your students are also editing. Toseland, Cambridgeshire and Belstead, editors User:Billo-Conteh.M and User:Annabelhinds respectively. I do not consider them to be "their" articles rather Wikipedia articles and as such the priority is to improve the articles rather than leave them in a particular faulty state to aid assignments. User:Fortuna Imperatrix Mundi and User:CAPTAIN RAJU have IMO justifiably removed material as well. The UoP education program page [[13]] states 'the article should be complete, and open to comment and revision by other Wikipedians, by the end of March'. That is what has been happening, albeit with most of the comments being in edit summaries rather than in talk. If you would prefer others not to edit maybe Wikipedia is not the place for the assignment? Humphrey Southall. Hi SovalValtos Thank-you. Apologies my last post was unsigned, I thought I had typed the 4 tildes in. I only meant "their" article in the sense that each of them is assigned a different one to work on with the intention of improving stub articles which have received very little or no attention from other Wikipedia editors in the preceding twelve months. We do actively encourage them to respond to other Wikipedia editors who also edit the articles they have been assigned and several of them have been trying to. Generally existing Wikipedia editors, including yourself, have been very helpful in their edits and suggestions for improving material the students have added in order to make the overall articles better. Elder Dempster Lines: Citation needed?

In Elder Dempster Lines you have put a citation needed, when the following sentence identifies two cases with references. I'm not quite sure what more you want. However, I have added some more cases, citations and text references. Arrivisto (talk) 15:47, 15 June 2016 (UTC)

Apologies. Initially I was slightly pissed off as I thought you reverted just because you thought it was a basketball team and didnt look at the source, but then I discovered the link to the page I added was for a basketball team, not the bus company itself (i thought it would redirect to London United Busways). Worth School

Hi Soval!

I do not completely understand why you have reverted my last edit alleging it was unsourced when it was actually sourced (or at least most of it). Maybe we should come to an agreement and remove the unsourced material but keep whatever is sourced. Most of it has been there some time already without being changed, which makes me think it's removal wasn't necessary. Why this sudden attitude of removing content that keeps the article from being a stub? --CreiterAdam45z (talk) 22:23, 1 July 2016 (UTC)

CreiterAdam45z I will not be able to answer you for a few days, but meanwhile you may like to look at a school Featured Article such as Stuyvesant High School for inspiration. I have not had time to study it yet myself! SovalValtos (talk) 05:29, 2 July 2016 (UTC)
CreiterAdam45z thank you for your queries. As you say, some of what you replaced was unsourced, and it had had a request for a citation attached. Please supply a source rather than replace material that has a citation request. It is not for other editors to unpick the good from the bad parts of your edit. Avoiding an article being a stub is not an end in itself. Including non notable or unencyclopedic material is not an improvement. Many articles have content for a long time that should be removed. It is not an argument for keeping it. User:John may wish to explain about their removal of nn material. I think this exchange should be copied to the Worth School page, but I am not sure how it is best done. Best wishesSovalValtos (talk) 21:47, 5 July 2016 (UTC)

Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov

Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov never was a Prince. Russian have ranks Prince, Knyaz, Graf, e.t.c. It is why better do not combine Prince and Knyaz - it is various possibilities and resposibilities. The Prince can be and Knyaz at the same time due to father (King or Tsar) can present any big region to own son, the big territory which will coincide the Knyaz renk and can be bigger if he is the Prince also. And not every Knyaz can be a Prince. Prince on Russian is the son of the Tsar or King. Mikhail Semyonovich Vorontsov never was a son of the Tsar or King. Vorontsov family are not the Tsat or King family. It is why he may not be a Prince. It is big mistake to call give the Prince rank to Vorontsov.

Vorontsov leaved Odessa in 1844 and joined Russian Army in Caucas mountains in 1845. He was a Graf before 1844 and he became a Knyaz from 1845. He back in Odessa in 1856 (or 1855) and was not a General-Governor in the last years, and soon died in 1856. When I read that somebody in Odessa had protection from the Vorontsov before 1845 it is means that protection was fron the Graf Vorontsov and not from the Knyaz Vorontsov.Грищук ЮН (talk) 05:55, 4 July 2016 (UTC)

Corporate career of Mohommed Ali Shah

Hello.

Early you removed some stuff from Corporate career of Mohommed Ali Shah while I added a link in its support. If you read properly the write up of the link I have added, you will surely understand that it's a true. By the way I added it again and hope you will not remove it again. --Shivam Roy (talk) 13:58, 30 August 2016 (UTC)

One problem User:Shivamroy22 is that you are trying to use as a source www.amunetwork.com, which acknowledges its purpose is promotion; on the page [138] saying "Our mission is to make a positive difference in the career and lives of Aligarh Muslim University Students and Alumni of AMU." Using a source like that does not help anyone know what it supposed to support is true. I see that editor User:Charlesdrakew has also warned you about the quality of the 'source' The content you have added should be removed. Please do so yourself.SovalValtos (talk) 20:00, 30 August 2016 (UTC)
Okay, I removed that link and added another. You can check it on Mohommed Ali Shah's corporate career. I think It's a suitable link for it. Thanks. --Shivam Roy (talk) 11:52, 31 August 2016 (UTC)

Combining two maps

Hi SV, I'm wondering if you can help. Linguistic Demographer produced the maps for Llanfyrnach Rural District and St Dogmells Rural District. What we need, for Cemaes Rural District, is a combination of the two but I have no idea how to go about it. I asked LD for help but then realised he has been inactive since 2010. Can you help? Best wishes, Tony Holkham (Talk) 11:59, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

User talk:Tony Holkham It is not something I have done before, so I thought I would try to see what User:LinguisticDemographer had done to see if I could copy the process. On the page of his uploads [147] I found [148] and [149]. There may be more. One of them might be what you are looking for. If you are searching note the additional spellings he uses: Cemais and Kemes. You will have to check to see what areas they refer to and if they correspond with your sourced text. I might be able to combine images if needed, but realistically it would be better to look elsewhere. I once came across a Wikipedia page which was for accessing editors who like manipulating images. I cannot remember where.SovalValtos (talk) 19:04, 11 September 2016 (UTC)
Thanks very much for looking this up. Unfortunately the uploads list (something I didn't know before) does not have the map I want, but I will ask at the Teahouse to see whether there are any map-combiners out there. If not, the two maps I have put in the article may have to do. Thanks agin. Tony Holkham (Talk) 20:35, 11 September 2016 (UTC)

Kohat notability

Hi there, this reversion doesn't make much sense to me. If you dispute that one or more of the people listed are from Kohat on the basis that nothing in those articles mention Kohat in any sourced way, it would be reasonable either to remove those entries, or to flag the individual entries with {{cn|reason=Please cite subject's relationship to Kohat.}} or similar. But given that the section heading is "notable people", the citation request ambiguously suggests that we want sources that prove they're notable. As I said in my edit summary (which you misinterpreted as me suggesting that Wikipedia is a reliable source) if they have an article, they are presumably notable. We are not required to prove that every link is notable. Regards, Cyphoidbomb (talk) 08:32, 16 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you Cyphoidbomb for coming here. It is nice to come across others improving these settlement articles which are prone to problems. I am quite new to it. I mention User:Finnusertop as they added the hatnote [175]; reasonably IMHO. I replaced the hatnote as I thought that you had not checked to see if the problems highlighted by it had been addressed. The onus for checking that removal of a hatnote is justified is with the remover. I checked the first name in the list 'Syed Adam Banoori' and found that the wikilink was not to an article on him but just a section; further there was no mention of Kohat. I think that strictly a notable person should have their connection with a settlement sourced within the settlement article, either in the body of the article, or if not there, in the 'Notable People' section itself. Practically I do not ask for cites if the connection is demonstrated in the person's article. At that point I replaced the hatnote without doing the work the hatnote wanted. What I wanted to put in my edit summary was truncated; perhaps I should have gone straight to talk. Best wishes.SovalValtos (talk) 10:19, 16 October 2016 (UTC)
@Cyphoidbomb and SovalValtos: each article needs to be able to stand alone as a self-contained unit. If you want to say that X, Y, and Z are from Kohat in the article Kohat, then references that verify this need to be present in that article. Dear Sir,

All notables have links in blue
Best wishes and regards

Aftab Banoori (Talk) 11:24, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

Thank you User:Aftabbanoori for your assurance that your information comes from books. However that is not enough for Wikipedia as every reader of the article needs to be able find the sources which you have found. You must cite your sources in the approved manner. Further, having a link in blue such as Syed Adam Banoori is not sufficient for Syed Adam Banoori as it is only a piped link to a section in an article rather than to an article solely about Syed Adam Banoori.SovalValtos (talk) 18:23, 18 October 2016 (UTC)

ArbCom Elections 2016: Voting now open!

Hello, SovalValtos. Voting in the 2016 Arbitration Committee elections is open from Monday, 00:00, 21 November through Sunday, 23:59, 4 December to all unblocked users who have registered an account before Wednesday, 00:00, 28 October 2016 and have made at least 150 mainspace edits before Sunday, 00:00, 1 November 2016.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2016 election, please review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 22:08, 21 November 2016 (UTC)

Deleting uncited material (Isle of Wight)

I notice that today you have deleted a lot of material from this article on grounds of old uncited material tags? As far as I can judge from good local knowledge, most of the information you have deleted is likely to be accurate. Could I point you towards Wiki policy on deleting uncited material which is that it should be raised in the talk page so that information is not lost? Wikipedia contains hundreds of thousands of old citation requests and it is a recognised backlog. IanB2 (talk) 07:55, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

I also noticed this and had the same concern. Maybe we could dig up some citations rather than remove it as what I saw didn't seem contentious. DIY Editor (talk) 08:22, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
@IanB2: what is this policy you are talking about? WP:UNSOURCED sets no condition on removing unsourced information – the condition for restoring previously removed information is to present reliable sources. WP:BLPREMOVE even tells you to remove unsourced material immediately wherever BLP policies apply. No information is lost when removing unsourced material, because it remains in page history. – Finnusertop (talkcontribs) 08:30, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
I've started a discussion on this at Talk:Isle of Wight#Removal of apparently non-contentious material so we can look at restoring the material with sources if it is worthwhile. DIY Editor (talk) 08:34, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
There have been edit conflicts whilst I have tried to reply. I tried to say; User:IanB2, the information is not lost as it is in history, please can you supply suitable sources on reinserting and supply a link to the policy for me to read.SovalValtos (talk) 08:37, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

Wikipedia policy on removal of uncited items is that they should be pasted into the talk page so the information is not lost. I am surprised you felt innecessary to delete so much from one article, anyway - Wikipedia has a huge numbered items awaiting citation and the ones you deleted do not appear to me to be particularly contentious and there is certainly no legal risk. I think it be better to reverse your deletions and spend the time checking the material out, if any of it concerns you? IanB2 (talk) 09:29, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

P.s. Policy: Wikipedia:Verifiability/Removal of Uncited Material IanB2 (talk) 09:35, 26 November 2016 (UTC)

That "policy" is just an old essay that caries little or no weight. The deleted material is in the page history.Charles (talk) 21:32, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
My view on this subject is that, except perhaps in contentious circumstances, it is generally preferable to first look if any sources can be found, and if so to add them, rather than prioritising the removal of tagged material. I don't know if that is how SovalValtos operates. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 21:42, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
PaleCloudedWhite This is how SovalValtos operates. He tags the material, of then a couple weeks/months later he comes back to the article and removes it after a while if no citation is provided within that time. Class455 (talk) 21:46, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
I don't know if that assertation is correct. Perhaps SovalValtos can comment themselves? With regard to the Isle of Wight article, a large quantity of tags were added to the article by Wuerzele in this edit. PaleCloudedWhite (talk) 22:02, 26 November 2016 (UTC)
Thank you User:Finnusertop and User:Charlesdrakew for pointing out that the essay Wikipedia:Verifiability/Removal of Uncited Material has been confused with the page documenting an English Wikipedia policy Wikipedia:Verifiability. Still, the essay is worth a read even though it uses the deprecated term 'recently' to refer to a time. I agree with User:PaleCloudedWhite's views on removal of material. Class455's speculation as to my gender and their implication that I do not look for sources is less helpful. Now, the way forward to improving the Isle of Wight seems to lie there.SovalValtos (talk) 08:36, 27 November 2016 (UTC)

I am dealing with the citations on this page now. I would however point out that the policy on citations that you have flagged sets the steps to go through to verify material and makes the point that doing the research and adding citations is rather more worthwhile then simply deleting information that is probably accurate, unless there is a legal risk relating to references to living people. User:IanB2 28 November

The lead to Wikipedia:Verifiability says (among other things): All material in Wikipedia mainspace, including everything in articles, lists and captions, must be verifiable. All quotations, and any material whose verifiability has been challenged or is likely to be challenged, must include an inline citation that directly supports the material. Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed. I'm not sure that "probably accurate" is good enough for what we'd like Wikipedia to be. Tony Holkham (Talk) 21:09, 28 November 2016 (UTC)

Fine, but we need to be realistic about how we get from here to there. As editors it would be very easy for us all to spend time visiting Wiki sites and deleting masses of stuff that isn't properly cited. I don't think we would have a better product as a consequence; just one with lots of holes. More useful is to take an interest in particular pages and check things out, filling gaps with citations as best we can. IanB2 (talk) 20:13, 29 November 2016 (UTC)
