Dear Skatefan, I can see we work in the same area and I do enjoy very much to find other figure skating fans. However you do not have a profile here. It would be nice to know more about you, I'd like to know where you come from and which languages you speak, maybe also what brought you to figure skating and what to wikipedia. It would be just nice. Because of the missing profile your id is always red when you look in history. It works like every other article. Just click on one red skatefan and you can edit. Thank you and welcome Uwe Langer 20:25, 31 January 2006 (UTC)Reply

Request for edit summary edit

Hi. I am a bot, and I am writing to you with a request. I would like to ask you, if possible, to use edit summaries a bit more often when you contribute. The reason an edit summary is important is because it allows your fellow contributors to understand what you changed; you can think of it as the "Subject:" line in an email. For your information, your current edit summary usage is 0% for major edits and 0% for minor edits. (Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace.)

This is just a suggestion, and I hope that I did not appear inpolite. You do not need to reply to this message, but if you would like to give me feedback, you can do so at the feedback page. Thank you, and happy edits, Mathbot 03:38, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia:WikiProject Olympics and userpage edit

Hi there. I'm patrolling the "new pages" area and have noted that you are creating a lot of good articles on winter olympic skaters. I think you would be interest in the Olympic WikiProject. You should also put something on your userpage, about what you are doing here, so that when people see your edits, they know that it is not a newbie or vandal. A redlinked name always raises suspicions of vandalism and nonsense posts.Regards, Blnguyen | Have your say!!! 03:51, 23 February 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Skatefan. I notice that you've recently updated a few articles about American racecar drivers and added a section called "Related link(s)". In my experience, it's more common for such sections to be called "External link(s)" rather than "Related link(s)". Please consider whether you might like to use "External link(s)" for any future articles you update. Thanks. -- DH85868993 03:31, 27 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Olympic skaters edit

I noticed you have been creating many articles about Canadian figure skaters, and placing them in Category:Olympic competitors for Canada. Speedy deletion of Charles Fishpaw edit

A tag has been placed on Charles Fishpaw requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Lastly, please note that if the article does get deleted, you can contact one of these admins to request that they userfy the article or have a copy emailed to you. -- Alan Liefting (talk) - 20:52, 29 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of Joel McKeever edit

The article Joel McKeever has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. File:Conor Daly.jpg edit

FYI - I've tidied this up. You had two different licenses on the page, and what I assume is your real name. I would leave that out. The best way is for source to be {{own}} and Author to be [[User:Skatefan]] - that nicely shows you took the picture and you uploaded it. Having two names will only cause confusion - some will assume X took the picture and you uploaded it, then you end up with getting "lack of permission" notices.  Ronhjones  (Talk) 00:03, 31 May 2013 (UTC)Reply

Jean Pierre Brunet edit

Hi Skatefan. Since you were the one who started the article Jean Pierre Brunet long ago... I have evidence this skater was still alive in 1947 and also that he was only twelve years old in 1944/1945. In the hope you still remember where you got the information from in 2006: what was your source for the given birth and death dates? I personally doubt that this skater died at a young age. At least, I can't find any evidence for it. I think he simply stopped skating. Trijnsteltalk 15:57, 23 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

I cannot see your article as I'm not a subscriber to that site, but that may have been a sibling or family member. Here is an article mentioning Jean-Pierre's death. As it is confirmed in multiple sources that he was the U.S. Champion in 1945 and 1946, I find it's very doubtful that he was only 12 years old at the time. -Skatefan (talk) 18:00, 23 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Survey Link: http://uchicago.co1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH?Q_DL=3dz0m2ubQw1KSnb_80J3UDCpLnKyWTH_MLRP_55ZXkf9gZ1hDcuF&Q_CHL=gl

I am asking you to participate in this study because you are a frequent editor of pages on Wikipedia that are of political interest. We would like to learn about your experiences in dealing with editors of different political orientations.

Sincere thanks for your help! Porteclefs (talk) 19:42, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Ways to improve 1985 U.S. Figure Skating Championships edit

Hi, I'm Boleyn. Skatefan, thanks for creating 1985 U.S. Figure Skating Championships!

I've just tagged the page, using our page curation tools, as having some issues to fix. All articles need sources, and this appears to have none. Are the 'external links' actually your source rather than a friendly suggestion? If so, can you please change the heading to 'References' or 'Sources' as is the norm, so it's totally clear to readers? Please let me know if I can help.

The tags can be removed by you or another editor once the issues they mention are addressed. If you have questions, you can leave a comment on my talk page. Or, for more editing help, talk to the volunteers at the Teahouse.

Please add sources to all articles you create, including the 2 biographies of living people you created today. These are likely to be swiftly tagged for deletion. Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 09:01, 11 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Can you please respond to messages? The obituary now added to Anita's articles, is it the source used for the article or just an external link? Thanks, Boleyn (talk) 08:15, 12 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

Sources and communication edit

I have messaged you several times but you have not responded. Please be aware that WP:Communication is required, not optional. Please also see WP:BURDEN; WP:V is at the heart of Wikipedia. If you continue to ignore attempts to communicate with you about concerns other editors have, you risk a block. Boleyn (talk) 20:54, 27 March 2018 (UTC)Reply

You have been being warned repeatedly for the last 8 years about adding unverified material to Wikipedia, including unreferenced, or unclearly refused, biographies of living people. Yet you have continued to create these, including the many that have been raised on this page and others such as Martin Smith (figure skater) and Michelle McDonald. For these, there is at least something, but 'external links' just means 'suggestions for further reading' and they need WP:INLINECITED references so we know where you got your information from, especially on living people. You have been an editor since 2005, so I'm assuming you know all this, as well as having had numerous messages.

You also do know how to edit your talk page, but have ignored several messages from me. It has been repeatedly pointed out to you that WP:Communication is required, it is WIkipedia policy, see WP:DISPUTE and WP:CONDUCT. You may also benefit from looking at WP:BURDEN; WP:V is at the heart of all we do. If you ignore this message also, I will have to initiate an ANI which could lead to a block. I am trying to help you - please just communicate. Best wishes, Boleyn (talk) 15:30, 6 April 2018 (UTC)Reply

Deletion discussion about Beverly de Nance edit

Hello, Skatefan,

I wanted to let you know that there's a discussion about whether Beverly de Nance should be deleted. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Beverly de Nance .

If you're new to the process, articles for deletion is a group discussion (not a vote!) that usually lasts seven days. If you need it, there is a guide on how to contribute. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

Speedy deletion nomination of Marcella May edit

Hello Skatefan,

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Marcella May for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly indicate why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Thanks!

In your revision you mentioned several things that might in future lead to coverage, but at present no coverage (that I could find) indicates that he meets the WP:GNG. He also does not meet any of the criteria at WP:NSKATE. Please refrain from writing articles about skaters where you cannot find at least two sources that provide in depth coverage of the subject (from independent and reliable sources). And no I don't mean list summaries of their sporting career on aggregator sites; I mean in-depth news articles about the person and their achievements. unless they meet WP:NSKATE, you are required to show that they meet the GNG (by some people's interpretation of the Subject Specific Notability Guidelines, these are only an indication of notability anyway, so you should really always have at least two sources that provide in depth independent and reliable coverage. Deletion discussion about 1924 U.S. Figure Skating Championships edit

Hello, Skatefan, and welcome to Wikipedia. I edit here too, under the username Edward-Woodrow, and I thank you for your contributions.

I wanted to let you know, however, that I've started a discussion about whether an article that you created, 1924 U.S. Figure Skating Championships, should be deleted, as I am not sure that it is suitable for inclusion in Wikipedia in its current form. Your comments are welcome at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/1924 U.S. Figure Skating Championships.

You might like to note that such discussions usually run for seven days and are not votes. And, our guide about effectively contributing to such discussions is worth a read. Last but not least, you are highly encouraged to continue improving the article; just be sure not to remove the tag about the deletion nomination from the top.

I'm confused. I linked a list of several references to the article, two from SKATING magazine, and one obituary, that verify all the facts in the article. Aren't those sources? Skatefan (talk) 05:34, 12 November 2023 (UTC)Reply
