According to the log for that page, it appears to have been deleted. No idea specifically why...talk to the person who deleted it to discuss it further. DMacks 02:57, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Pages can be speedy-deleted with no discussion other than a short-lived notice on the page itself. And once the page is deleted, there's no longer any evidence of that notice. Again, talk to the person who deleted it to see what specific reasoning or policy he was following. DMacks 03:01, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi. They were deleted for being not much more than an introductory sentence or two. That's a speedy for lack of content/context. Please feel free to recreate them since it's clear that you plan on expanding these. Nothing personal. - Lucky 6.9 03:15, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

link to British edit

Hello, when you want to link to the article about something British, please do not link to British, as that is a disambiguation page (which nothing should be linked to). Instead link to the one of the options found on that page such as United Kingdom, Great Britain or British English by writing out [[United Kingdom|British]] or [[Great Britain|British]]. License tagging for Image:Brian boitano gold.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Brian boitano gold.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

re: Jeffrey Buttle edit

Hello--

I added the explanation to the claim that he's first in the world because the statement seems a little POV, and as far as I can tell, the world standings page doesn't have any explanation as to what the scores are based on. Do you think the article would be better without the statement? I feel it still needs to be clarified in some way, because I feel someone unfamiliar to figure skating would assume that Buttle was ranked first based on some single championship event (Worlds and 4CC come to mind), when other people have won those titles.

Image:Weir,Johnny.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Weir,Johnny.jpg. I notice the 'image' page specifies that the image is being used under fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first fair use criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed image could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this image is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the image description page and edit it to add {{Replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original Replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace the fair use image by finding a freely licensed image of its subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or a similar) image under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our fair use criteria. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that any fair use images which are replaceable by free-licensed alternatives will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Article for deletion edit

A tag has been placed on Mikhail Kasalo, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. German Figure Skating Championships edit

Hello, honestly I do not understand what else I shall write as a source for this article. I actually wrote a very long text as a source when I first touched this article. Please see the history and search for my name. The sources are, to say it again: A book with the title "Jahrbuch 1989 - DEV" (Yearbook 1989 - DEV (German Skating Association)) and the result lists of each competition at German figure skating championships as a paper copy. I bought these lists from the DEU, which is the German figure skating association. I freely admit English is not my mother-tongue, but you deleted the text where I explained it, but did not understand what it meant. Why don't you ask me? I am not a monster. Please delete the classification of this article as "Unreferenced". Uwe Langer 19:34, 14 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ming Xu edit

Good day! I certainly don't want to start a revert war on an article that I don't care about (rather than very periferally). But I would like to note that its current abridged form may be rather misleading. If we simply say that Ming Xu "is a Chinese name where Ming is the family name and Xu is the given name" (which, of course, what "Ming Xu" would mean for the overwhelming majority of persons who are referred to in that way), then I think we should not immediately proceed without explanation to "Xu Ming" (for whom of course Xu is the family name) or General Mingsioi (whose family name we don't know, as the Manchus did not use family name together with the given name. Ming is simply the first syllable of his two-syllable Manchu personal name. I actully was wrong even spelling it with a space, but that would be a likely misspelling for somebody not aware of the convention). Otherwise we'll imply that these persons' family name is Ming, which it is not. If you want the disambig article short - but without factual incorrectness, something like this could do:

Ming Xu is usually a Chinese name where Ming is the family name and Xu is the given name.

Ming Xu may also refer to:

Regards, Vmenkov 09:47, 19 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

P.S. Incidentally, it seem that some other articles in Category:Chinese figure skaters may need to be renamed: right now some are named using the Chinese convention - (e.g. Xu Ming, family name first), while others using the "Western" form (e.g. Xiaodong Ma where Ma is the family name). It seems appropriate to rename them all into Last name, First name format, unless there is a good reason to keep somebody's name in a "Western" form. So you may end up creating a few more of those redirect pages - and then somebody else may want to make them into disambig pages... Vmenkov

Your edit to Figure skating at the 1908 Summer Olympics edit

You recently removed the usage of the "DetailsLink" template on this page, with no edit summay, no talk page discussion, etc. Can you explain why you made that edit? Thanks, Andrwsc 21:01, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I got rid of it to conform to standards used in other skating articles. DetailsLink looked messy and was easily overlooked. I didn't even notice that the page it linked to existed until I following "what links here" from Richard Johansson and found myself in a page I'd never been before. I changed it so it's easier to find more detailed results about the competition. Awartha 21:04, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, but two things: First, please use edit summaries so people can figure out what you are doing. A glance at your contributions list tells me that you rarely use them. Second, that article is more in line with other Olympic articles, and is intended to follow the standard formats used there. A recent discussion at Wikipedia:WikiProject Sports Olympics had some consensus that merely wikilinking the event name to the event article was less distinctive than adding an identifiable word to show the link. It is still under discussion, so your input would be more helfpul to contribute your opinions than to make unexplained edits. Hope this helps, Andrwsc 21:19, 20 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Figure skater notability edit

Hello, actually I would disagree that that establishes notability. A subject (of any type) becomes notable by being featured in multiple nontrivial secondary sources, although we have some good secondary guidelines such as WP:BIO which offer some indications when that's more likely. Also, it would seem to me that the "highest level" for figure skating would be the Olympics, rendering the point moot in this case regardless. It seems he might meet the criteria, but I could find no secondary sources, so I'd like to leave the tag in place for now as all that's featured as a source is a statistics sheet. Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 09:43, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Well, there are 319 google hits for him, so I wouldn't call him completely obscure. The highest level for figure skating are the ISU Championships, which are four championships held by the International Skating Union. They are the World Figure Skating Championships, the World Junior Figure Skating Championships, the European Figure Skating Championships, and the Four Continents Figure Skating Championships. To compete at those events, skaters have to be elite and at the highest level in their country. The World Figure Skating Championships are like the Olympics, except they happen every year. World Juniors is the same, except that it's targeted at skaters between the ages of 13 and 19 (but note the ages of competitiors at World Seniors. There's a major overlap, so what happens is that skaters at World Juniors are often skaters who just missed the Worlds team but are still skating at World Championship level). Senior level is Olympic level. Junior level is one below that, but junior level at ISU Championships is based on age, not skill level. Olympic champion Sarah Hughes, for example, could still have gone to World Juniors after winning the gold! Awartha 09:50, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
I do see quite a few Google hits for him, unfortunately most of those are not in English. (Or Spanish, I could help on that one too.) What you might want to do (if you can't translate the sources yourself of course!) is contact WP:TRANSLATE for some help translating source material into English. Really though, it's probably not that big a deal right now-the notability tag mentions deletion, but it doesn't call for it, it'll just categorize the article like all the maintenance tags do! Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 09:56, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
That's cool. Sorry if I come off grumpy. I've watched too many pages I've created get speedy deleted and prodded into extinction, while non notable skaters survive AfD. I think I should tattoo figure skating competition heirarchies onto my forehead. Awartha 10:07, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
Well, to me, sourcing matters more than hierarchy. Still, the article you created does have a notability assertion-A7 is only meant for articles in which there's absolutely no reason stated to believe the subject might be notable, vanity bios and the like, although unfortunately it does get misused sometimes. What you might want to do, though, is set up a userspace "sandbox" that you can use as an incubator for articles in progress until you've got a couple sources on them, that makes them quite a bit less likely to get nominated for deletion. I've got one going like that here, I can certainly help you set it up if you should need. Seraphimblade Talk to me Please review me! 10:28, 26 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's weird. I'm using the default skin, and your screencap is what I used to see, but now my page just stops after See our policies and guidelines for more information on editing. . Should I switch skins? Awartha 22:54, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Nah, it sounds like we're both using the same (Monobook) skin, so I don't think it's that. Actually, I've just noticed I'm not seeing the list of templates when using Internet Explorer 6 (don't have 7 to test), but I do when using Firefox. In IE, I only see the same you've pasted above. Maybe it's a feature only possible in Firefox; maybe it's a bug. I'll try and research some more and let you know if I find any more info! —XhantarTalk 23:18, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. :) I'm using IE and I used to use Firefox. Maybe that's it. Awartha 23:36, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Oh, wait a sec. I have Firefox setup to automatically log me into Wikipedia, but just about never use IE so I was editing the page anonymously when I tested, and didn't notice. Also, I have "Show preview on first edit" turned on under "my preferences" :: "Editing" tab, but the auto preview never happened in IE because I wasn't logged on. I could see the list of templates once I manually clicked on Preview, though, so it looks like you have to preview the page first, before it shows up. This I found out from the following comment in MediaWiki's EditPage.php:
#need to parse the preview early so that we know which templates are used,
#otherwise users with "show preview after edit box" will get a blank list
Can you try to preview the page (after editing) and see if the list of templates show up then? —XhantarTalk 23:56, 1 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
That works! Thanks! wonder why it needs to be previewed for section but not for the page itself. I suppose it's just one of those things. Awartha 00:09, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply
Yup! Probably some technical reason you wouldn't want to be bored with :) Glad it's working. Feel free to put {{helpme}} back up if you have any other questions. —XhantarTalk 01:10, 2 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Attempt to delete subcategory of Jewish figure skaters edit

Well, they are trying to delete a subcategory of Jewish athletes again. This time, figure skaters. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2007_April_14#Category:Jewish_figure_skaters . Because it was unsourced and I didn't see anything about it on google. Awartha 05:51, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

The source for her birth, marriage and death is the birth, marriage & death records at the Family Records Centre. If you google her father you will find details of her marriage. — Preceding unsigned comment added by RGCorris (talkcontribs) 20:21, 26 May 2007

If you have the sources, I don't see what the problem is. Add the info back in and source it. Awartha 21:23, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Short Program edit

Please stop moving this article. There is no confusion over capitalization, and if there is, there was a link at the top of the article to point people to the right place. When there are only two articles about something, there is no need to create a disambiguation page. Instead, placing a disambig link at the top of both articles will suffice. You are simply making things far too complicated , especially when they don't need to be that complicated. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:00, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

I have moved the manga back to Short Program, and the figure skating event to Short program. Each page has a disambiguation link at the top in case someone is confused. Please do not continue to make this more complicated than it needs to be. Placing the disambig links at the top is the long-accepted best practice when there are only two possibilities (or even three in many cases). Thanks. ···日本穣? · Talk to Nihonjoe 17:13, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply
I beg to differ. There is a huge confusion over capitalization. Searching for "Short program" and for "Short Program" should bring up the exact same article. It's confusing to have the caps-lock on, for example, and get a different article from the one you want. And just speaking for the figure skating article, the short program is officially the "Short Program" in ISU communications, meaning that we'd have two articles with the exact same title. It's easier to disambig them. One article shouldn't have precedence over the other in regards to name. Awartha 19:40, 3 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Ambiguous links and Template:Nihongo edit

Please take a look at this edit. It utilizes the nihongo template to display the name and its transliteration, and also avoids links to the "Japanese" disambiguation page by directing readers to Japanese people later in the sentence. Since I've seen this a few times on your new figure skating pages, and I think you might be adding more, I hope this setup will be useful to you in the future. Dekimasuよ! 23:53, 19 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

  • Just to add to what Dekimasu said above, the same point goes for links to articles such as French, American, English, British, Russian, and many other similar terms, all of which can refer either to a nationality or a language or to other concepts. --Russ (talk) 13:33, 23 June 2007 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free image (Image:Jamal Othman half Biellmann.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Jamal Othman half Biellmann.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

The stub type, which was not proposed at Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting/Proposals, does not meet the standard requirements for a stub type, either through being incorrectly named, ambiguously scoped, or through failure to meet standards relating to the current stub hierarchy or likely size, as explained at Wikipedia:Stub. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:Torvill dean bolero.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Torvill dean bolero.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Hi. I noticed that you added Category:Place of birth missing to Audrey Freyja Clarke and maybe elsewhere. Please keep in mind that this category should be place in Talk Pages and not in articles. Read instructions in the Category's page please and links given in User:Yobot to understand why is it. Thanks, Magioladitis (talk) 14:41, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Moreover, for living individuals, instead of Category:Year of birth missing, we use Category:Year of birth missing (living people) (these categories are supposed to be in the article's page!).

And more more thing. In DEFAULTSORT we should not put special characters. Check this edit of mine. Thanks and happy editing, Magioladitis (talk) 14:47, 18 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Db-hoax edit

Lini Simmons may have been a hoax article, but the db-hoax tag is not appropriate except in cases of articles that are self-evidently vandalism. Things that are not self-evidently hoaxes can't be deleted under G3, per Wikipedia:Criteria for speedy deletion#Non-criteria. For other situations, please use Wikipedia:Proposed deletion (and AfD if the tag is removed). You can also take a look at Wikipedia talk:Criteria for speedy deletion/Archive 31#G3 and hoaxes, is it always "vandalism"?

Template:Db-hoax is a redirect that has itself been deleted twice for this reason. I'm not going to quibble over its existence, but please don't overuse it. Rgds. Dekimasuよ! 04:19, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Here, List of Olympic medalists in figure skating # List of winners by age as I began to write. Is the day of competition in the Olympics is not certain (2006 ice dancing= 20 february, 1984=?) that I used for calculating the last day of the Olympics. I would not want to write it as. Second, these pages as I've done in a different page in Turkish can be divided? I hope you can help.--Erica92 (talk) 13:45, 7 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Türkçe vikipedi'de tr:Artistik Buz Pateni'nde Olimpiyat madalyası kazananların kazandığı yaşa göre listesi sayfasını oluşturmaya başladım. Burada List of Olympic medalists in figure skating#List of winners by age şeklinde yazmaya başladım. İlk olarak bazı olimpiyatlarda yarışmaların olduğu gün belli değil onun için hesaplarken olimpiyatın son gününü kullandım. Bunu not olarak yazmak istiyorum. İkincisi ise bu sayfa benim türkçede yaptığım gibi farklı bir sayfa olarak ayrılabilir mi? Umarım yardım edebilirsin. =)

Proposed deletion of Luciano Milo edit

The article Luciano Milo has been proposed for deletion because it appears to have no references. Under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article. The nominator also raised the following concern:

All biographies of living people created after March 18, 2010, must have references.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. Disputed non-free use rationale for File:ISU Judging System.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:ISU Judging System.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator seven days after the file was tagged in accordance with section F7 of the criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.
