Article Feedback Tool update

Hey Simon Burchell. I'm contacting you because you're involved in the Article Feedback Tool in some way, either as a previous newsletter recipient or as an active user of the system. As you might have heard, a user recently anonymously disabled the feedback tool on 2,000 pages. We were unable to track or prevent this due to the lack of logging feature in AFT5. We're deeply sorry for this, as we know that quite a few users found the software very useful, and were using it on their articles.

We've now re-released the software, with the addition of a logging feature and restrictions on the ability to disable. Obviously, we're not going to automatically re-enable it on each article—we don't want to create a situation where it was enabled by users who have now moved on, and feedback would sit there unattended—but if you're interested in enabling it for your articles, it's pretty simple to do. Just go to the article you want to enable it on, click the "request feedback" link in the toolbox in the sidebar, and AFT5 will be enabled for that article.

Again, we're very sorry about this issue; hopefully it'll be smooth sailing after this :). If you have any questions, just drop them at the talkpage. Thanks! Okeyes (WMF) 21:34, 1 September 2013 (UTC)

I did, and I am sure you are editing in good faith, however I think you should hold off for now - I'm worried that you are effectively decoupling en wiki from fa wiki - the links are being removed and are not being replaced, preventing navigation between the sites. Pánfilo de Narváez

I don't know if you are following the article on Pánfilo de Narvaez, but from an exchange of comments a few weeks ago on the Talk page of the article on Indigenous Peoples of the Americas I thought you might know something about Spanish explorers of the Americas. I just saw an edit to the article on Pánfilo de Narvaez in which the editor changed a category entry from "Explorers of North America" to "Spanish Explorers of North America". I don't know if that was an improvement to the article or not, but I thought you might know.CorinneSD (talk) 15:33, 7 November 2013 (UTC)

Hi Corinne, I'm not following this article but I just took a look and the category change seems fine - category:Spanish explorers of North America sits within category:Explorers of North America; he was Spanish, and an explorer of North America, so no problem there... Swept through

Apologies if "decimated" didn't work there. My concern was that "swept through" occurred in consecutive sentences. Is there a good way around that? Mark Arsten (talk) 22:14, 8 November 2013 (UTC)

No problem - I had used "decimated" liberally when I wrote the article, but it was pointed out to me that interpretation varies from a lteral one in ten, to a general significant proportion. Suriname

I've just started reading the article on Suriname, and I have come across a phrase I've never seen before. It appears twice in the first paragraph in the section "Etymology". It says "European encounter". Is that an accepted phrase? I had always heard "European contact". I had also never heard the word "encounter" used as an uncountable noun.
