NZ Air Training Corps organisation image

Thanks for the contribution to the Air Training Corps page. I started that page nearly a year ago, and I'm surprised and delighted to see how it has developed from the rather small article I was developing then.

Do you still have the (I assume) vector source for the image? I'd like to see Flight Commanders added to the chart, so if you could add those, or possibly upload it somewhere so I could do it, let me know.

It's not only a good resource for Wikipedia, but could easily be a good resource for teaching Unit Organisation within a unit.

Thanks again, Liberator 09:55, 12 May 2006 (UTC)

Rugby Union in New Zealand

Hi there, I noticed you voted for Rugby Union in New Zealand to be the next Wikipedia:New Zealand Collaboration of the Fortnight. It is also being voted for on the Wikipedia:WikiProject Rugby union/Collaboration of the fortnight. Add your vote there and have a joint collaboration! --Midnighttonight 05:44, 27 May 2006 (UTC)

That was absolutely brilliant. If all disputes were settled with research and references instead of pointless arguing, we'd be a whole lot better off. Well done. Snottygobble 01:08, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

Hi, I've updated the discussion at Talk:Rugby_union - your citation looks unsound to me but I hope it doesn't seem like I'm taking a shot at you personally, I just want this to be resolved correctly and hopefully amicably.Hippo43 16:39, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

New Zealand Soccer change

I found the article about the name change of New Zealand Soccer to Football New Zealand at http://www.nzsoccer.com/plugins/newsfeed.cgi?rm=content&plugin_data_id=12155

Yeah I actually added something about that to the page on May 3rd (look at the page history for New Zealand Soccer. However as the article says (I used it as a reference on the page), the name change is not yet official, and the organisation is still called New Zealand Soccer. Until the name is officially changed then we should keep it as is. I'll keep an eye out though! - Shudda talk 02:46, 8 June 2006 (UTC)

NZ ATC organisation image...

It's a really minor thing, but the rank Flight Sergeant is abbrieviated as F/S not FLT SGT. It would be nice to have some consistency... and plus it really annoys me when ranks aren't written right. Otherwise, you've done an awesome job! --Divinecirinde 00:41, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

Crusaders

Hi mate, whilst going through a 'what links here' for an article, I found User:Shudda.nz/sandbox, with a great Crusaders article. I was wondering whether you still work on it or not, and maybe you could upload it onto the Crusaders page now? The current Crusaders page is very bad at the moment, and it would be great if we could use your version. Thanks Narrasawa 14:12, 14 September 2006 (UTC)

Sure mate, I look forward to seeing the finished product!Narrasawa 11:45, 16 September 2006 (UTC)

Just thought I would say you did a fantastic job in rewriting the Crusaders page! A lot of the S14 teams are looking great these days, imo, the three that need the most attention being the Sharks, Highlanders and Chiefs. But yeah, great stuff Shudda! Cheers. Cvene64 15:21, 4 October 2006 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:HaddenCalcutta.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:HaddenCalcutta.jpg. The image description page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale.

If you have uploaded other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on those pages too. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Hello!

Hi Shudda, sorry about the delay in reposnding re. the lead in the ABs article, but it looks like you have covered it all now! Fantastic effort!! Page looks so great! I'll go support the FAC now. Cvene64 12:51, 12 January 2007 (UTC)

Also, with your quality of writing, could you just glance over the Rugby World Cup article if you get a chance - as it may come under the microscope this year, and it is not nearly as good as the ABs, but it would be a shame if it were removed or reviewed if you know what I mean. Replaceable fair use images

Hello, I've tagged the following images you uploaded with the {{replaceable fair use}} tag: Image:Richie McCaw Crusaders.jpg, Image:RobbieDeans.jpg. They depict living people and Wikipedia's fair use policy states that fair use images may only be used if "No free equivalent is available or could be created that would adequately give the same information." The images I've tagged are of celebrities who make regular public appearances, so a free equivalent could reasonably be created. Please feel free to tag the relevant images with {{Replaceable fair use disputed | Your reason why a free replacement is not available}} and make a case for their inclusion if you disagree with the rationale. Regards. --Muchness 07:11, 13 January 2007 (UTC)

ABs

Hi Shudda -

I've copyedited the lead section on the ABs article - mainly shifting a few paragraphs from place to place so that it flows more easily. Take a look and see what you think. Grutness...wha? 05:07, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

Looks good - I still think the bit on the uniforms would go better before the history of their matches (along with the haka bit), but that's probably just an individual taste thing. Grutness...wha? 06:00, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

All Blacks copy-edit

Sure thing. i intend to go right through the entire article but will have more time to do so in the weekend. Ive posted something on the FC review page. GringoInChile 11:10, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

I've just finished the copy-edit of the All Blacks article. It was mostly the History section that needed work; lots of short unconnected sentences. I'd appreciate it if you gave my work a look over, especially the refs; I think a few of them got stuck within sentences and I'm not sure if that's permitted.
Oh, and congratulations on all your work on getting the article accepted as FA. You were the major force pushing it. Cheers. GringoInChile 01:35, 22 January 2007 (UTC)

RE:All Blacks copy-edit

Yeah, I was mainly talking about the lead. However, it looks better now than when I was doing my copy-edit. It's a bit on the long side for my tastes, but that's just personal preference. Good work! Gzkn 00:56, 19 January 2007 (UTC)

Hey that would be cool, I'll look through it and see what needs to be done. I'm quite busy with work at the moment and am trying to devote my attention to rewriting the Tana article as its a complete mess...Help with that as well would be much appreciated - see User:Etholloway/sandbox .... ET has the passion of 1000 suns 02:44, 30 January 2007 (UTC)

More info is definetely needed for the early years and 98-02 sections... change the notable players and coaches to something in the same vain to that of the Crusaders or the All Blacks (congrats by the way on the FA status). What do you think needs to be done? As for the Tana article, I think its got the core of the information there it just needs to be sorted out. If any player in Rugby needs a decent article it's him. I got the book over christmas which should help immensely (even though it seemed a bit rushed in my opinion) your help will be appreciated. Citations, types of template, usage, etc.

That's okay, I know you weren't trying to criticise. I appreciate the input. Looking at your message code sort of half answers what I want to ask you, as I see that you used a cite news template. I had earlier looked through the variations of cite web, and was a bit wary of the order in which the fields appeared, as they didn't match your layout, so would cite news be more usable for most website sources? I have recently been structuring my citations by hand, as it's simpler and quicker to type, as well as quicker to alter, but is that bad practice? See Formula BMW for example. I also make a lot of refs from technical regulations manuals, which don't really have a publisher as such, so I'm not sure what to add to them. I would appreciate your advice about what templates to use and when they are most suitable. Regards, Adrian M. H. 18:40, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Hi, a good start would be to translate what we have so far in french version, at least the introduction, everything else is easy to understand :
2 essais, 6 drops, 78 pénalités, 59 transformations = 2 tries, G drops, 78 penalties, 59 conversions. Do you want us to translate ? you have most of the resources, this article gives another to statistics.scum.com, but it does not seem to work now. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by Dingy (talkcontribs) 04:40, 13 February 2007 (UTC). (sorry, forgot to sign Dingy 04:41, 13 February 2007 (UTC))
here it says that he played with (in this order)  : Peyrehorade, Bayonne, Brive, S.U. Agen, Bayonne. It is the information we have in the French text, no date yet but I will try to find something. He played with Brive when they won the European cup in 1997 and in 2000 when they won the French cup. In 2002 he won the French championship with Agen. He finished his career with Bayonne. Dingy 11:51, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
This reference [1], in english, gives the information on one part of his career :
CA Brive from 1996 to 2000
SU Agen from 2000 to 2002, it fits with the other information
Bayonne from 2002 to 2004
Saint Médard 2004 (Federale 2)
Dingy 17:13, 13 February 2007 (UTC)
in [2] (discussion in French) it shows that he played during the 2005-2006 season, until the final round in May 2006. he was then 35.. probably his last season Dingy 02:50, 14 February 2007 (UTC)

Mark Hammett GA on hold

GA on hold — Notes left on talk page. Nehrams2020 04:32, 25 February 2007 (UTC)

I did not mean to confuse, so if I did, I apologize. I just think that by breaking up the article up more and by providing more headings, the article is more visually appealing for the reader to search and find a particular aspect/event in his life. If a reader has to search through his entire playing career, they may find it more difficult to find information they are looking for when it may be mentioned in a subheading. Look to other GAs for people to get a better view of what the page looks like broken up. When it appears to only have two sections (Playing career and Coaching), the article does not appear to be broad. For his early life, keep looking. If possible, add information about his early high school/college career that led him to rugby, and elaborate on his birth/family/events. If the infobox on the right covers all of his career stats then that's fine, but if you can add more career stats, that could help make the article even broader. Look to other articles for examples. You have done a good job with the article, it just needs minor formatting and new information if possible. --Nehrams2020 08:39, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
I know what you mean when you say it's hard to find information, the articles I got passed took forever to research online. Again, go with whatever information you can find. If no more exists at this time, then this is what we'll go with. For the lead, I was hoping it could be further expanded to focus on other events based on new sections of information, but if none exist, the lead probably can't be expanded too much. Keep searching for another day or two if you can find anything, and if not, I'll look it over again before passing it. The great thing is that you can always continue to expand this article when new information arises, even after it's passed. Pointer-wise, I don't know exactly what else to add to the article, perhaps a peer review could be used, but you can do it after it's passed. I'm off to bed now, but the article is really good and the subheadings are a nice improvement, keep up the good work. --Nehrams2020 09:20, 25 February 2007 (UTC)
Good work on fixing everything. I passed it, so I guess you can update all of the information on your userpage (that's my favorite part when I get one passed!). Consider helping with the backlog, even if you only review one or two articles, we need all of the help we can get. I just started reviewing in the last few weeks and have passed about 5, failed a couple, and have a few more under review. Anyway, good job on the article and keep working on other articles to submit. --Nehrams2020 01:37, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Well the Articles on Rupeni Caucau, Waisale Serevi and Sireli Bobo look good and all we have to do is create sub headings and copy-edit it and then take the article to a higher status (what do you think?)..--Cometstyles 13:59, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

Crusaders copy-edit

No problem; glad to be of help. As you said, the article is better-written than the All Blacks article had been so it wasn't as much work as that had proved to be. GringoInChile 02:04, 27 February 2007 (UTC)

Congrats on getting the Crusaders article thru to FA. Keep up the good work. GringoInChile 04:17, 3 March 2007 (UTC)

Re: Olympics

Hey, It is very very close to FA standard imo. Maybe a peer review and a copyedit by you and Gringo or something would push it over the line. Of course, any needed references can be added as well. Would be great to get it to FA. Cheers. Cvene64 03:34, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

I will put it up soon. Thanks for the message. Also, I was wondering about the 1905 pic on the ABs page...I think it should be removed from the commons as its eligability for PD is a little ambiguous (the license is not for NZ). I can stay, but would be better under fair-use imo. Do you reckon you could fix that up? Cvene64 08:06, 1 March 2007 (UTC)
Hey, I'll get it set up. I just realised it has had two in the past though, and the last one only got an automated suggestion, so do you think it is worthwhile? Cheers Cvene64 12:31, 7 March 2007 (UTC)

Waisale Serevi

Well I tried to look up information about his past but like most things about Fiji Rugby players its really hard to find. I remember reading about him some 6 years ago in the FIJI TIMES about how he came to play rugby and about his high school days but I cant remember when exactly and Fiji Times Online doesnt seem to have archives dating back to early 2000 regarding serevi and well Serevi might not retire from Rugby yet He is still playing and he said his swansong would be the 2007 Hong Kong Sevens but who knows but I'll try to find information on him in his younger years which was long be4 I was born and maybe snoop through old newspapes and magazines and try 2 find something related to him. Hopefully one day we might get this article to GA Status..Cheers..--Cometstyles 11:57, 4 March 2007 (UTC)

I read what you sent on my E-mail and it is really good. I hope you can use it in the article. I wasnt able to find anything on him in the newspapers regarding his life be4 Rugby but everything is included in the clipping you sent me is perfect. Iam not actually good at revamping(thats a word right) an article but I would try. First the worlds best rugby team(All Blacks) then the world best rugby club(Crusaders) and now sevens rugby greatest ever player(hmm you certainly have your hands full)..I really appreciate the work you do and If you ever decide to run for elections(hehe become an Admin)..Let me know..Cheers--Cometstyles 13:26, 6 March 2007 (UTC)
Hello, I read the to-do List for Serevi and I just remembered something regarding his faith. He is a very holy person and attends church every Sunday but the most inquisitive thing about him is when he is on the playing field, he would always be spotted with the word "Phil 4:13" written on his jersey, his boots or his bandage which I think is a bible phrase form "Philippians" which roughly means "I can do everything through him who gives me strength"...well I dont know much about what faith he belong to but if you want I can find the names of his wife and 3 Children and well finally I might not be around for sometime due to a wikibreak Iam taking which might be between 2 to 4 weeks and so I hope you can continue doing everything without me..hehe...Catch you later..--Cometstyles 11:38, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
Hi I was just looking at this article and it looks really good..I was just wondering why the above mentioned information was never added about the use of the Bible phrase "Phil 4:13" in his article because that was what actually made him famous a couple of years back and when I watching 2007 Hong Kong Sevens, he was actually spotted with the 'term' written on his jersey and on the bandage on his wrist..Just Curious..--Cometstyles 13:13, 16 April 2007 (UTC)
Yeah it's something I forgot to add, will do so soon. Doubt it's what made him famous but it's certainly a well known fact about him. - Shudda talk 05:50, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

If you have time would you like to integrate some of the following info about his resignation? [3] [4] [5] [6] [7] [8] Obviously we have to make sure that we don't fall victim to recentism, but I'm sure that there's something that can be gained from this info. I've just added a single sentence referencing a Fiji Times story. --Xorkl000 04:01, 9 July 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome message...

...the pointers will prove useful to a newbie like me.  :)

And onced I get back from a couple of weeks away, I'll definitely look into the Rugby Union Portal - hopefully then they'll be some firm info to add about Melbourne's (long overdue imho) side - due to start-up in the inaugural Australian Rugby Championship.

Cheers, Perentie 00:54, 12 March 2007 (UTC)

Well I tried to look up information about a list of England national rugby union team notable former players with objective rules, its really hard to find. I need too a list of best top scorers ans a list of best tries scorer. I am looking for economic aspects of England national rugby union team : tv rights, coverture, how many english players in rugby union / football / cricket and other major sports in england...

Do you have some information to better english and french articles to do a featured article ?

Thanks a lot... Dd Ddfree 21:10, 21 March 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for the welcome

Thanks for the welcome.

If it's not stepping on any toes, I'd like to find my feet by prepping templates for future and existing content, e.g. National One for this season wasn't present, and whilst I'm at it I'll copy the template to prep for next season (etc)

I'll use the GP templates as a model.

Re: Templates - am looking at 2006-2008 (I figure that 07/08 isn't so far off that it's pointless... and besides, if I mess up, no harm :)

I've been doing 2006-07 English national one at the moment, mostly as my club is Premiership, I know little about N1, am curious about how it's going (so I can see who my side may face in the future) and hope that once the page is in place others with more knowledge may tweak it to keep it updated!

A belated thanks

Images again

Hey, I'm not sure whether or not you have read this, but have you seen Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission? Especially the section on When permission is confirmed? Anyway if you have not then you should read it and follow the instructions so people can't delete those pen photo shots you have of the Sharks squad. I've only needed to do it once (for Image:WaisaleSerevi.jpg) and it was confusing, but hopefully you can figure it out! Anyway good luck. - Shudda talk 10:42, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Shudda. I actually did half the job. I read the bit and I asked for permission. I did not read the bit about what to do when permission was granted. I see I need to send an email to a committee. I will do as you advise. Thanks Tiucsib 15:15, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
I have sent the permission email to the OTRS and I have posted that fact on each images discussion page. Someone flagged the Percy Montgomery for a verification. Not sure why. Anywya llets see how long it takes to get an issue acceptance number. Tiucsib 17:34, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Hi Shudda, congrats on the promoted article to FA! I was wondering if you would be interested in having a crack at doing the players section on the French page like you did for the ABs? Maybe we could set up a sandbox or to-do list on the talk page? :) Goldman07 06:24, 2 May 2007 (UTC)

FYI on Serevi: future "today's FA"?

I just put Waisale Serevi up on the page for requesting him as "Today's featured article". I suggested several dates, coinciding with the last two events in the current IRB Sevens, opening day of the 2007 Rugby World Cup, and Fiji's opening match in the 2007 RWC. I decided that I might as well be bold and put it up... we'll see what happens, I guess! — Dale Arnett 03:45, 19 May 2007 (UTC)

Australia national rugby union team

  • You do what you want of course... In french language, we will better Wales national rugby union team, South Africa national rugby union team in order to have the greatest national rugby union team features articles or very well written... It is easier to do this work if english language does the same work... Everybody better its own article with the work of the other language... In order to have nice articles to promote rugby union... National rugby union teams are often read... So they are important, aren't they ?

France national rugby union team

In my view the only major thing which differs between this article and the All Blacks one is the number of red links in the notable players section. Other than that I can't see why it should be rejected for FA status.GordyB 17:17, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

I can do. It's not going to happen overnight though as there are other things that I am working on, but I'll knock those red links off and then put the article up for FA status.GordyB 20:34, 4 June 2007 (UTC)

France national rugby union team article

Hi Shudda - I've just finished a copyedit - mostly just very tiny stuf or cosmetic tidyingf, though I did reorganise the section on venues a bit more. Have a look - see what you think (before and after). Grutness...wha? 07:44, 22 June 2007 (UTC)

No problems... not sure about the test/test thing - personally I don't think it needs the capital, but if it's used that way on other articles... euh, whichever you think best :) Grutness...wha? 05:24, 25 June 2007 (UTC)
Oh, and no, I don't think you need an article on the U19 team - it was more a case of "if there is one...". Coincidentally (given that I don't write mcuh on rugby), I was just starting a short stub article on Glen Osborne when you commented on my talk page. Grutness...wha? 05:28, 25 June 2007 (UTC)

Eng rugby coaches

Im affraid i got them from a book so i dont have a online reference but it was an official fact book so i was inclined to agree with it. Noface1 20:05, 4 July 2007 (UTC) The book is - 'The Official England Rugby Miscellany' issued by the RFU so I would be inclined to agree with it. But what tyoe of refernce is needed would a internet refernece be needed becuase if this is the case i will search for one, or will simply the book title be good enough? I could easily find it yes but how do i put that in the temp provided? Noface1 19:58, 16 July 2007 (UTC) I've done what i assume you meant with the page refernce author and year. I would like to help further in making that article a featured article, so if there is any work that needs to be done i will have a go at some of it. =) Noface1 16:20, 17 July 2007 (UTC)

All Blacks spoken article

Hi Shudde,

In response to your message on my talk page, I'm willing to record this; I'll try to make a start this weekend, although I have another recording pending so it may have to wait until sometime next week. I may need to ask your help for pronunciation on some names, although having had a quick read-through, I should be OK with most of them. I'll let you know when I've started. Cheers, Hassocks5489 07:47, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Hi again Shudde,
I'm most of the way through the spoken version now. I found a website with a Māori pronunciation guide, which has been quite helpful, but these are the pronunciations I'd just like a bit of clarification on:
  • The two hakas: Ka Mate and Kapa o Pango (I have used long-ish vowels and a soft "ng" - Pang-o rather than Pang-go)
  • Te Rauparaha
  • Kia Whaka-ngawari (using the pronunciation guide, I got something like KEE-a f(w)a-ka-(ng)a-WAA-ri)
  • Mils Muliaina (Milz or Milss? Long or short u?)
  • Sitiveni Sivivatu (which vowels are long and which are short; stressed syllables)
  • Isaia Toeava (surname, mostly)
  • Sione Lauaki
  • Rodney So'oialo
  • Neemia Tialata (length of vowels in surname, and I wondered if his first name sounds like the Biblical figure Nehemiah, with 4 syllables?)
  • Wilson Whineray - I went for a short "i" and three syllables (WIN-(a)-ray)...
  • George Nepia (long or short "e"?)
Let me know here or on my talk page. I'll have a look online as well. If we can't find any confirmation of any of these, I'll use that pronunciation guide website and make an "educated guess"! By the way, the Tri-Nations table results need to be updated, but I had a look on the official website and couldn't find full details of scores, bonus points etc., so I didn't attempt this myself. I think they've each played 50 matches now. Hassocks5489 22:25, 27 July 2007 (UTC)
I've uploaded and linked this now; click on the link in the article and have a listen. Kahuroa was really helpful with pronunciations! Hassocks5489 18:06, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Canterbury Crusaders

The speedway section is being written and as many articles will also point to the page then I cannot see your problem. The name is a 'former' name for your rugby team. It was the only name for the speedway team. Speedway is the third largest sport in the UK behind football and cricket. I feel the speedway team has the right to the name, as it has not been 'taken by another sport, however you feel the other. The disambiguation page I thought was a fair compromise. Reading your wiki policy link it is clear that the disambiguation page is as acceptable as what you have decided to do. This a matter of opinion 'not'fact. A full article surely takes precedence over a redirect. Why not change the links on the rugby sites so that they are correct, instead of pointing to an obsolete link. I am not starting an edit war, you are the one changing the article back from a perfectly acceptable solution. Hammer1980 10:39, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I'm sorry I totally disagree. I do understand what you are saying and it is not about notablitly. Hopever, the speedway team in my opinion has more right to the title of the article, but as a compromise a disambiguation page. Crusaders have their own page, you have changed the speedway team to the (speedway) version. I could understand your stance if the Crusaders were still called Canterbury Crusaders, and obviously I would have just accepted the link, but they have not been called that for eleven years if the information in the article is correct. Obviously the links in the other pages need changing. A re-direct to the rugby page is unacceptable. Using your argument then the speedway article should have stayed on the page with a redirect to the rugby at the top. You can't have it both ways. If you would like a disambiguation page as opposed to the main article then thats fair enough. Most of the 'links' are from user pages. In time there will be as many speedway rider articles linking as the rugby ones. I intend placing one or other of my suggestions on that page. Please advise on which is the most acceptable to you. Thanks. Hammer1980 11:35, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

Nothing is being moved. Crusaders has its own page, and 'you' moved to the speedway page. A disambiguation page is a perferctly reasonable solution. The more relevant information is the speedway team as that has been its only name. You have unilaterally changed the page and now you are instructing me not to do the same. To say I am going to make pages to deliberately link to the Canterbury Crusaders to basically 'prove a point' is a joke. I have no intention of moving the page you created. I said in my previous statement that I had the right to, but was happy with the dismabiguation page. Also how can you say 'most' people were looking for the Rugby team ? What facts do you have to back up that statement. Under the diambiguation guidelines that you linked to, I am perfectly entitled to change it to a disambiguation page, as I was to put the main article there and redirect to Crusaders. In the time it has taken to argue the point with me you could have changed the links involved within your project to be more accurate initially. Thanks.Hammer1980 12:46, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

I have changed it, you can take it to Wikipedia moves if you feel that strongly about it. I have awaited your response out of courtesy.Hammer1980 23:43, 31 July 2007 (UTC)

George Smith

Well it seems poorly structured to me, it mixes personal details here and there, for someone that is a top player it doesn't come out much as that. the previous version somehow get EA Sports rugby a high level leading. I agree it also needs to significantly expanded. Michellecrisp 00:44, 2 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm happy to replace with more specific intext tags if that helps. Michellecrisp 01:27, 2 August 2007 (UTC)
