Hosmer's Grove edit

Good work on Hosmer's Grove, but keep in mind, we want to get in a habit of using inline citations. See Wikipedia:Inline citation for more info or feel free to ask me any questions. Viriditas (talk) 21:39, 2 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

No worries. That's just a bot that automatically formats bare links into readable text. You can either ignore it or overwrite it with edits of your own. I'll take a look. Good job. Viriditas (talk) 00:35, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Oli edit

Hi. What you are dealing with is called disambiguation. To avoid ambiguity with the other Oli, (which is currently a redirect to Open University of Hong Kong, since that institution was once called Open Learning Institute) we can create a new Oli with a precise description of the topic. While some might favor (chant), I personally favor (Hawaiian chant) since there are many different types of chants. So you are welcome to decide on creating Oli (chant) or Oli (Hawaiian chant). Once you've done that, go to the current Oli page, and add a hatnote. If you have any questions, please contact me. Viriditas (talk) 21:31, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

License tagging for Image:Maui no ka oi Magazine covers.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:Maui no ka oi Magazine covers.jpg. You don't seem to have indicated the license status of the image. Wikipedia uses a set of image copyright tags to indicate this information; to add a tag to the image, select the appropriate tag from this list, click on this link, then click "Edit this page" and add the tag to the image's description. If there doesn't seem to be a suitable tag, the image is probably not appropriate for use on Wikipedia.

For help in choosing the correct tag, or for any other questions, leave a message on Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Thank you for your cooperation. --ImageTaggingBot (talk) 23:06, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Welcome edit

Welcome, and thanks for leaving a message at my talk page! To answer your questions, you can submit all of your news suggestions at Wikipedia:In the news section on the Main Page/Candidates. Good luck with that! Secondly, I changed my username because it revealed too much information about me. Using your real name is your choice, but always be prepared for consequences. Feel free to reply, and aloha! – Obento Musubi (CGS) 00:52, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hawaiian monk seal DYK edit

Hey, Shannon. I just saw you nominated Hawaiian monk seal for a DYK on June 14th. It was declined by Gatoclass because as an already existing article, DYK rules state that it must be expanded five-fold. That's why it is easier to nominate and expand new and stubby articles. If I had known about your DYK nomination, I would have tried to help out. In the future, feel free to ask for help, or post a message on the project talk page. Anyhoo, I'm contacting you to find out if you have any information about the status of the Maui Ape Preserve and Koko's planned move to West Maui. If you do, feel free to contact me or participate in an ongoing discussion over here. Thanks! Viriditas (talk) 03:25, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Thanks for the note. I will ask for help in the future! I was eager to get the monk seal some press, since it had just been named State Mammal, but I was a little shy of the requirements. I only expanded the article by 2 or 3-fold. Baby steps towards greatness. I don't know anything about Koko, sorry. I am very involved in conservation, however, and if I hear anything going on in the West Maui wilderness, I will give you an update. Shannon.wianecki (talk) 17:40, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks, Shannon. BTW, have you been following the Phillip Prais story in Maui Time? Viriditas (talk) 23:16, 24 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I discovered it elsewhere. Why? Shannon.wianecki (talk) 00:03, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Well, the WP:HAWAII project is trying to improve Hawaiian religion, which is the theme for this month's newsletter (your contributions are of course welcome). For better or for worse, Prais has been inextricably linked to the local color of Lahaina for almost 30 years. I thought about mentioning him in the newsletter with a small photo. Viriditas (talk) 00:21, 25 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Interesting. Prais was most definitely a notable character, but I don't know that he's indicadive of Hawaiian religion. (He's also the father of a friend of mine from high school. I'm not sure if she knows yet; I don't know what kind of contact they maintained.) When is the newsletter deadline? I'm researching for a story about the pairings between native land and sea species in the Kumulipo, Hawaii's creation myth.

Well, I would like to publish it by July 1st, so edits up until that time are fine. It's strange, but mentioning Prais in a newsletter about Hawaiian religion is just an unfortunate coincidence, in that he was obviously a religious person. In the photo caption I was going to link to various articles about Hawaii. I will upload a few photos from flickr later tonight. I would like to express my condolences towards your friend. Moku'ula redirects edit

Hello, Shannon.wianecki. You have new messages at Viriditas's talk page.
You can remove this notice at any time by removing the {{Talkback}} or {{Tb}} template.

Hi! I'm glad you like the page thus far. I'd be happy to continue building it up over the next five days and submit it to DYK. We'll need a source for photos. I know some of the people on the board of the Friends of Moku'ula, so maybe I can ask if they have any photos, or want to contribute. Thanks for your help!

I took care of the redirects for you. Check my contribution history (click on diff) to see how it is done. Viriditas (talk) 22:33, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply
It's too late to submit it for a DYK. Viriditas (talk) 12:26, 14 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Moku'ula Burials edit

Hi Shannon. Did you know about the burial of Queen Keopuolani, Princess Nahienaena, High Chief Ulumaheihei Hoapili, Queen Kaheiheimaile, and probably Queen Kaahumanu? All their bodies were later transported to the Church at Wainee. The most confusing part of this is the fact that Kaahumanu was buried on Maui. Didn't Gerrit Judd used Kaahumanu's coffin as a desk to write to Great Britain about the actions of Lord Paulet? Judd was trapped in Oahu at the time and the coffin was mentioned to be in Pohukaina on Iolani Palace ground. I don't think he would sail all the way to Lahaina to pull out her coffin and use it as a desk. KAVEBEAR (talk) 01:13, 9 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Can you add this to the article? Viriditas (talk) 11:29, 12 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I can't verify the above info. I do know that those mentioned are buried at Waine'e Church, but I don't have any knowledge of them being moved. Bummer we missed the five day DYK window. I got busy with work. Thanks for your help! 18:34, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

No worries, we can always expand it five-fold (more difficult but certainly doable) and submit it any time. That means expanding it to 25 bytes from its current size of ~5. Viriditas (talk) 00:16, 15 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Looking for editors to help with an Asian Pacific American edit-a-thon in Honolulu edit

On Oahu? Edit Wikipedia or Wikimedia sister projects? You are invited to help the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center with an Asian Pacific American edit-a-thon in Honolulu this September.

Aloha!

Last summer I moved to the Seattle area after 14 years in Kailua on Oahu. I immediately fell in with the Cascadia Wikimedians User Group as it formed, joined its board and became its first president as well as the GLAM representative for Washington State.

Recently, Adriel Luis, Curator (Digital & Emerging Media) at the Smithsonian Asian Pacific American Center, contacted me about setting up an edit-a-thon like the previous Wikipedia APA edit-a-thon. In addition to discussing one for Seattle, he wrote:

As I was working two jobs while I lived on Oahu, I did not have the opportunity to meet your or any other Wikipedians at the time. Hence, the reason why I am contacting you now.

If you would like to help, please contact me through one of these methods:

Mahalo,

Speedy deletion nomination of Fizzarotti Palace edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Fizzarotti Palace, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G11 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the page seems to be unambiguous advertising which only promotes a company, group, product, service, person, or point of view and would need to be fundamentally rewritten in order to become encyclopedic. Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator. - Chip🐺#TeamTrees🌳 18:24, 11 November 2019 (UTC)Reply
