What's With All the Plagiarism?

Hi. I see that you have created a lot of articles on Wikipedia, especially those that can be found at the Biographical Directory of the United States Congress... I don't know if you realize this, but by copying these articles nearly verbatim, without any citation (except for the referral at the bottom of the page to an external link - which is not a citation), you basically put Wikipedia in copyright violation. I only checked a couple of articles but for each of those I checked you apparently did the same process. By building plagiarized articles (and apparently I am not the first to bring up your plagiarism skills - as the rest of this page's comments indicate), you don't do anyone a service in building an encyclopedic reference of any caliber. In fact, for those children that use Wikipedia and cite material from it thinking it is a valid source (adults are expected to be more careful), you have now put all those little children across America and the world, at risk of having plagiarized their homework or their reports for school. Those articles were imported as part of a group project to import from texts in the public domain such as the 1911 Encyclopedia Britannica, and these were in the public domain. All such articles had a template at the bottom providing notice of the body of work from which they originated, and I was simply following a previously used format.

As for all these images that have been taken down, Wikipedia used to use a different copyright policy where these "fair use" images were permitted, and I used a template providing the same rationale for each of them, because they were all used from the same source for the same reason. When this policy was changed to make templates unacceptable, it was required individual rationales be written for each fair use image. The images were for a period of time grandfathered in, and later deleted along with the original rationale template.

These photos are many times the only ones available of Tennessee General Assembly legislators, and copyrighted material from the Tennessee General Assembly website has used been used under fair use by local news stations, newspapers, and national news wires countless times. However, strengthening of Wikipedia's policies regarding copyright policy has made this unacceptable since the images were posted. Wikipedia doesn't tend to group Images for Deletion or Articles for Deletion community discussions by topic, and I agreed with their deletion, so it was easier to let them expire rather than comment on each one of them.

I'm sorry that I've ignored this page for so long. I think any issues you're likely to bring up are more likely to have arisen from neglect to have updated. Daniel Bush (talk) 11:20, 20 August 2009 (UTC)

Speedy deletion of Template:Japan prefecture governors

A tag has been placed on Template:Japan prefecture governors requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
