Lurking edit

I'm not as active on Wikipedia as I once was. Mostly due to things like the fiasco at WP:SCHOOL, Wikipedia:Schools/Defunct, and Wikipedia:Schools/Old proposal. If you need to get in touch with me, my direct e-mail address is available from http://charette.no-ip.com:81/. --Stéphane Charette 09:38, 2 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

On Wiki, Schools, and Watchlists edit

As I note at WT:EiC how additional school articles are regularly being deleted and/or merged because of the "schools are non-notable" movement, I realize Wikipedia is continuing to move in a direction that has less and less interest to me. I find it incredible how a vocal minority (such as those on various school AfDs and the talk page of WP:Schools over the past few months) can so negatively influence groups of editors who just recently were not only well-organized but contributing in a very positive manner.

FWIW, I am very tired of the argument from deletionists that goes something like this: "Do you know how many schools there are in the world? Can you imagine if people created an article for each one of these schools?" Yes! Some of us can imagine it, and we think in the long run that Wikipedia is the best place for it. I cannot help but feel that the anti-school deletionists have won for now and have forced those of us like myself to either leave or conform to what only they want to see.

I've removed just over 600 pages from my watchlist tonight. Mostly school-related articles. The only things that remain on my watchlist are a few templates and non-school related articles I've written myself, such as Mount Boucherie.

Enough of a rant. Back to lurking. --Stéphane Charette 05:59, 17 March 2007 (UTC)Reply

Editing edit

Hey, I just added a new paragraph to the article A. Y. Jackson Secondary School (Toronto). This came from the school pamphlet. If you want one for the proof, please call the school 416 395-3140 and request it. Thanks, bye.

Please don't call me a bully. edit

Welcome to Wikipedia. We invite everyone to contribute constructively to our encyclopedia. However, we remind you not to attack other editors. Please comment on the contributions and not the contributors. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. --GreenJoe 17:59, 11 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

"Welcome"??? Let me put this in perspective: Mr. GreenJoe shows up years late, nominates 3 of our templates for deletion -- templates that we've worked hard to standardize across our articles! -- states that my reasons for voting keep are "invalid", and then shows up on my talk page saying "welcome to Wikipedia", look at the welcome page, and don't attack other editors.
(This rant is about my comment here.) --Stéphane Charette 22:32, 12 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
Stéphane, GreenJoe and I don't usually agree on much, but I do agree with him on this -- it was inappropriate to call him a bully. He is perfectly entitled to dispute the validity of your rationale, just as you are perfectly entitled to challenge his reasoning. Whether or not you and others have "worked hard" on the templates is not relevant -- you are venturing into WP:OWN territory. No harm done - we all get worked up at times over the actions of other editors. Skeezix1000 12:26, 15 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hey! edit

Hey S charette! I can understand why you would think that my contributions to the talk page of the Canadian Notice Board would be spam. I totally agree with you, however we do need more support and more help from the Canadians in the Community to build up the bid of the only Canadian city bidding to host Wikimania. I asked several longtime editors/admins last night on IRC if it was ok to post and most of them said that it would be preferable if I placed them on Wikiproject pages instead individual usertalk pages. That is why I placed them on the noticeboard along with several other Wikiprojects. Again my reasoning is we need more support and more help from the Canadians in the Community to build up the bid of the only Canadian city bidding to host Wikimania. I also just read the WP:SPAM and WP:CANVASS, and from my interpretation of them, I have not violate either of them. However, if you wish to keep it off the noticeboard, I will respect that. WCCP edit

Hi,

There wasn't much there, and what was there lacked context, which was why it was speedy deleted. The text, in total, was:

"Cisco's answer to layer four switching technology (before they acquired Arrowpoint) is the Web Cache Coordination Protocol (WCCP).WCCP is different from the typical layer four interception in a couple of ways."

If you're planning on writing a new, better draft, I'd suggest starting afresh. Best wishes, Xoloz 00:33, 23 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

No doubt edit

There's no doubt in my mind that wikiwoo is up to his old games. However, I don't feel like fighting this one this time. I'll let you handle it and report it. He edited the page once again. --Renrenren (talk) 20:52, 18 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

I had him banned when he came back as User:Coolhandfluke. I put in a help me request and the admin that showed up was familiar with the case. You seem to be much more familiar with this process as I am. Wikiwoo/joan seems to have a beef to pick between franco and anglo relations. There's no doubt in my mind that he's returned.--Renrenren (talk) 12:56, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've just left a message on (Lexicon's talk page) as he was the admin that dealt with wikiwoo last time. --Renrenren (talk) 13:02, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
I've added two other sock accounts on the first link you have given. I don't know if I did it correctly as it said I should post it to another page as well but I would have needed admin status to do that. I've added a help me template here so that I can know if I did it correctly or not. With wikiwoo's long standing disputes on that page and others here on wikipedia, hopefully an administrator will be able to take a look at the page in question as well as the latest talk page entries and see if another block, perhaps an IP block is in order. --Renrenren (talk) 21:01, 20 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Impersonation by User:S-charete edit

S-charete has just been blocked indef for vandalism. I marked his user page for speedy deletion as a copyvio of yours. --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 20:19, 26 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

<sigh> Childish vandalism by Eduardo Rivero, or his brother User talk:ANDRESRIVERO, or the groupies at Schule Schloss Salem. They've been adding their names to articles for the past few years, and I keep removing them. Recently they've started a campaign of personal attacks. (See the history on my user page.) Looks like impersonation is next. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 08:04, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
(I should also mention their other recent attempt at a unique username obviously related to me: User talk:Wehatecharette.) --Stéphane Charette (talk) 08:13, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I find it interesting that the same students who regularly vandalize the English-language articles are responsible for vandalism at the German-language wiki as well: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Schule_Schloss_Salem&diff=prev&oldid=40471524
It doesn't take Babelfish to guess that this isn't a valid edit: http://de.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Schule_Schloss_Salem&diff=next&oldid=40471530
--Stéphane Charette (talk) 08:34, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
That isn't even close to sounding German. Those are just English verbs with German conjugations. :-) --Blanchardb-MeMyEarsMyMouth-timed 13:43, 27 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Add Scharetteisfat (talk · contribs · logs) to the list of usernames. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 23:23, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Schule Schloss Salem edit

Can I please ask why my legitamate edits on Schule Schloss Salem were removed? Please do not be negligent when removing vandalism. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alrightmate (talkcontribs) 22:33, 30 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

No negligence. That was intentional. The article has been subject to vandalism, so if you edit make certain it is NPOV, that you have external sources to back it up, and that it is encyclopedic. Otherwise it will eventually be removed. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 05:25, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

That's ridiculous. How about we then add external links for each and every addition on the alumni page? Look at the German version of Salem, they include those names. Or how about you delete those too?Alrightmate (talk) 18:40, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

The German version of the article also contains Andres Rivero [1] and Eduardo Rivero [2], two of the many students responsible for the vandalism -- just having text on the German-language article doesn't make it right. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 22:24, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I should also point out that the German-language wiki has no mention of a "Dr Andreas von Orevir", nor is there a single Google hit for such a name. Nice try. I've left in the son of August Oetker. I must point out to you, since you've only contributed to 1 article so far, and of your 2 edits 1 seems to be groundless, I'm thinking you're likely one of the student culprits in the latest string of vandalism. Do us both a favour and prove me wrong by contributing positively to Wikipedia. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 22:55, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
I just noticed it: Dr. Andreas Orevir is Andres "Rivero" spelled backwards. Stop the vandalism, guys -- grow up! --Stéphane Charette (talk) 23:01, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

Funny you should mention it; guess what I was doing at exactly the moment you left me your message -- picking through the history of Eduardo89, Radsche, etc. It's obviously a team of sockpuppets. I've been blocking them as I see them, and deleting all their garbage for a week or so now. Let me know any time you spot one of them active if you need some help. Happy new year, Antandrus (talk) 23:26, 31 December 2007 (UTC)Reply

OK, good job in discovering my genius vandalism tactic. But still, you have no reason to have removed my entry on the School Heads. That was also a valid edit. It has been reverted.Alrightmate (talk) 06:31, 2 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I strongly urge you to disist with you obsessive and insulting vandalism to my wikipedia contributions. Not only have you insulted my family name and titles, but you seem to insist that they do not exist! Trust me, the von Spaahms are a very real noble German family.

Sincerely, Eduardo Graf von Spaahm

Salem edit

I've changed my ways, i have decided to use my editing powers for good. Schule Schloss Salem. Good day. Alrightmate (talk) 09:57, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

On a related note, do you know how to make the infobox narrower? Thanks in advance :) —Preceding unsigned comment added by Alrightmate (talkcontribs) 09:58, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I wish I could believe you. This edit [3] with the edit summary of "changed logo size" seems to indicate to the contrary. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 18:58, 4 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

hey! edit

WP:RFPP edit

I've reverted your edit to Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. I'm not sure what you were trying to do, but you appear to have reverted to an earlier version of the page, removing new requests and re-adding old ones. A mistake, I'm sure, so you might want to try your edit again. Thanks, - auburnpilot talk 21:44, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Yeah, I was looking at that now trying to figure it out. All I can think is there was an edit conflict, but I didn't see an edit conflict anywhere...? I'll try again. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 21:46, 5 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Unblock edit

{{[[Template:Collatoral damage? Has the Telus IPs been blocked? I'm being told I'm blocked because I'm a sockpuppet of Taddeus45 (talk · contribs)|Collatoral damage? Has the Telus IPs been blocked? I'm being told I'm blocked because I'm a sockpuppet of Taddeus45 (talk · contribs)]]}}

Your request to be unblocked has been granted for the following reason(s):

Appears to be a case of mistaken identity: will confirm with the checkuser and the blocking admin shortly

Request handled by: Antandrus (talk) 16:58, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Holy jeez! Now my user page has been changed to say this is confirmed! I don't know what method is being used to confirm this, but I don't have any other username, nor have I ever seen anything about Taddeus45 until today!

Please look at my contributions, this should help confirm that I'm not a problem user. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 16:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

I posted on Hu12's userpage saying much the same thing. I had seen your contribs and participation on some of the same articles as me. I also pointed out that you were impersonated before and that perhaps this was a case of mistaken identity. --Renrenren (talk) 16:37, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. What a shock...and there is nothing I can do! My own talk page is the only page I can edit. Even my userpage has been changed to make me look like a criminal! --Stéphane Charette (talk) 16:40, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hu12 seems to do most of his editing at night so I'm sure he'll be around soon to solve this issue. Also, you're bound to attract the attention of other admins with your unblock request. --Renrenren (talk) 16:47, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
Hi Stéphane: you might remember me from January this year when I was helping you with a harassment case. I'm going out on a limb here and unblocking you for I strongly believe you are a good user, and will contact both the blocking admin and the checkuser (User:Thatcher) separately (technically we're not supposed to unblock until discussing it ... but you've got a long and excellent editing history). Cheers, and if I'm wrong I'm wrong. Antandrus (talk) 16:56, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

{{unblock|Thanks, Antandrus. But I still cannot edit. It tells me my IP address was recently used by S_charette. At the very least, can someone revert my user page back? I'm giving up on wiki for now and will try again later tonight.}}

Wikipedia:Requests_for_checkuser/Case/Taddeus45. Contribution history has little to do with this case. This was the only account not initialy blocked after being confirmed by checkuser. I left this account unblocked and when the core IP was used by two more of the sock accounts it confirmed that they are connected with this account. None of the second identity sock puppets edited the mainspace, indicative of operating one account "clean", while using others to engage in disruptive behavior. See WikiProject Spam Item (1) / See WikiProject Spam report (2).--Hu12 (talk) 17:15, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply
I can tell you for certain I have no other accounts, which I doubt means anything to you since you've labeled me a sockpuppet. I can also tell you I typically get assigned the same IP for months at a time from my ISP, but that we recently had a power failure during a storm. My home router currently says my uptime is 1day:15h:12m:59s, meaning I probably got a new IP address when the power came back on at that time. I don't understand how you've confirmed it, but I have many years of edits on Wikipedia, and none of them are spam. Whatever process was used to "confirm" my identity is flawed. My full name, address, phone number, etc..., are easily accessible from link directly provided on my user page. I'm not hiding anything. --Stéphane Charette (talk) 18:03, 15 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

Clearing an autoblock

Due to the nature of the block applied, we need additional information before we can decide whether to unblock you. It is very likely that you are not personally blocked. If you are prevented from editing, it may be because you are autoblocked or blocked because of your IP address. Without further details, there is nothing further we can do to review or lift your block. Please follow these instructions:

  1. If you have a Wikipedia account, please ensure that you are logged in.
Your account name will be visible in the top right of this page if you are.
If it isn't, try bypassing your web browser's cache.
  2. Try to edit the Sandbox.
If you are able to edit the sandbox, you are not blocked from editing. Either the autoblock on your IP address has already expired, or you weren't blocked in the first place. Either way, you can resume editing.
  3. If you are still blocked, follow the directions below:
    1. Copy the {{unblock-auto|...}} code generated for you under the "Unblock request" section.
    2. Paste the code at the bottom of your user talk page, and click save.
If you cannot edit your own talk page, use the Unblock Ticket Request System to make your request.
