Things little Nike Battlegounds King of LA 2002, Nike Battlegrounds Champion USA 2003 and MVP Mitchell Cup Dominican Republic, 2016 should be recorded. It is important his page is update with the correct information. He is applying for a visa that requires a comprehensive record of his basketball achievements. An immigration officer will look at Wikipedia to verify his claims. Jeff Ruland revert

Hello,

The above article is also in Category:Iona Gaels men's basketball players, a child category of the category you just removed. So if you believe the information to be untrue, you might as well remove Category:Iona Gaels men's basketball players from the article.

However, I was about to remove Category:Christian Brothers school alumni from the article anyway because when I added it I was not aware of the parent/child category conflict. When I returned to remedy the situation I noticed your edit.

DeAndre Liggins

Hello, I noticed that you reverted my edit on DeAndre Liggins a few days ago, and I completely agreed with your reasoning. However, as I was looking through the official NBA transactions page here and I noticed that he is still listed on here as having signed a contract with the Cavs on August 2. I was going to revert the edit, but I thought I'd get your opinion first. I know he isn't on the roster and there hasn't been an official press release, but I think that statement is enough to warrant listing him on the team, especially considering he was listed on their roster at one point. Miami - we've got to have some standard for adding a team and it is basically for thre team to officially acknowledge it via an announcement or adding to the roster. Otherwise, how can we say a player is with a team if the team doesn't admit it? The NBA.com transaction page hasn't really factored in previously. I'm not going to go all hell bent about transactions since they will be official not too far in the future after training camp. But I do hold to the team needing to announce. I am aware of that, but since I thought they presented some signs of notability, I removed the prod. Had it have been some junior college coach, I wouldnt have touched it. There is so much garbage on Wikipedia that it obscures the important stuff and there are not enough admins to work AfD queues. These articles are examples of ones written by single-use accounts (that only created the article then left) and haven't been significantly formatted, improved or updated since. I AfD'd them, but that take 4-5 steps and several weeks. I just don't think if these players are worth the effort if no one will touch the articles. Good Call. I agree with with you that the Argentine league is not on the same level as the NBA or even Euroleague. However, in Battles case I believe he is independently notable. If all that can be written about an Argentine player is a two sentence stub with a reference, I'd probably be in favor of deleting it. However, this goes to show how AfD can be used to improve an article with a sense of urgency. See our talk page. RealGM is WAY too inaccurate a website to be used as a reliable source. They may usually get the signings right (because they add them when they are reported by other press), but they take no care to have correct information (particularly places of birth) and this disqualifies them as a useable source for basketball. The only part of their site I've been using is their NBA Transactions page. There are dates for which they've been more reliable than the official NBA site's transactions page. I've yet to see any of the signings on their Transactions page that hasn't accurate, and only one in which they've disagreed with the official NBA page. The standard to update a new team for a player has been team announcement for years. Why would this page use a looser standard? The time delay is simply not an issue for an encyclopedia (as opposed to a news source), and RealGM being as inaccurate as well is a big part why they should not be treated as an official source. I also meant to ask you something a few days ago. Are basketball players notable for playing on the Harlem Globetrotters, but no other team? Zach Auguste does have Greek citizenship

As I explained to you earlier, he's a natural born Greek, meaning he has Greek full citizenship rights at the time of birth. Since he was not born in Greece, he then simply has to fill out paperwork and then he gets full Greek citizenship. He then has to wait for the paperwork to be processed. As I said earlier, it was already reported in Greek media last year that he filed the paperwork. That means he simply has to wait until it is processed. It usually takes about a year. He filed a year ago, so he will definitely have official citizenship (not naturalized either) or he has it already. And these things are not always announced. For years people said Rony Seikaly did not have Greek citizenship, and then about a year ago he said in an interview he had it for many, many years already. If someone edits Auguste's profile to stat he has Greek citizenship, it's not a wrong edit. Because the only issue would be him attending a swearing in process, which has to be physically done in person in Greece. Like I said before, once any playing obligations were done in USA, it was said he was going to Greece to be sworn in. That was a last year. He got cut from the Lakers NBA roster and is not on any team in USA, which means he will obviously be going to the sworn in process. Basically what I am saying is, an edit stating he's Greek or has Greek citizenship should be acceptable.Bluesangrel (talk) 17:47, 24 October 2016 (UTC)

Greek media reported he already took the citizenship. So it is just about him coming to Athens to be sworn in as I said. I am sure there will be an article very soon. I never edited to say he's got Greek citizenship myself. I am just saying that others doing did not make wrong edits, but factual ones. I am merely pointing out editors making that edit are doing perfectly fine edits. It's not a leap, it's factually true. Don't know what inspired me tonight to write that, but I also noticed there are three more SWC POYs who are repeat winners. I can't promise I'll get to any of them soon (finding a night where I had both the time and energy to write a fleshed-out article on Broussard was rare enough), but I may try to get to one or two of those guys. If you happen to feel inspired anytime soon to write a decent, long overdue article, we could try to knock out a good chunk of the remaining SWC redlinks simply by making those three articles. League specifications in basketball infobox

Can you point me to the discussion in which it was decided to remove league specifications (e.g., the ABA and the ABL) from the basketball infoboxes? I would like to see the rationale that was behind this decision. — Myasuda (talk) 23:41, 7 January 2017 (UTC)

There has never been a clear consensus to add leagues after teams. There was a weak consensus to add country (which would link to the league where possible) in cases where a person played outside the U.S. and this was extended by some editors to non-NBA leagues. However, actual practice for the last few years has been to remove them and most frequent basketball contributors are on the record for removal. This reflects a shift over the years from treating the NBA as the primary focus of basketball articles to adopting more of a world view and standards shifting with those philosophies. The rationale for removing is this:

1. They clog up the infobox, especially is the team or league/country name is long. Infoboxes are condensed space and we need to make choices about what they include. Adding country/league is somewhat useful, but at the expense of clean use of white space.
2. They are very American-centric. Country is used instead of league in every case except US minor/defunct leagues. But if you start to list league instead of country then you end up with a lot of leagues no one knows and it doesn't accommodate promotion/relegation which is common in European leagues.
3. There are many cases where a player only plays in one league their whole career. 5-6 entries of "Greece" or "ABA" looks pretty stupid. But if you remove some and not all you lose consistency.
4. Many more foreign and alternate-league teams now have articles so in most cases the reader can go to the club article to learn what league it was in.
5. They have become a crutch for not writing a full article. A number of articles are stubs that don't document player movement. A good article should talk about each team, where it was and how they performed. Do this and you don't need country/league in the infobox.

I think this last one is most germaine to US leagues. The article should cover player movement and if there is confusion around what league a team belongs to that should be spelled out in the article. If a player competed for, say, the Spurs in both the ABA and NBA that should be noted in the article. While somewhat useful, the added space of adding "Dominican Republic" or "D-League" after a team name doesn't help the reader as much as having a clean list. Change to Tony Gaffney

Hello Rikster. I have consistently made a change relative to playing with the Celtics. I make this change (removing it) because it accentuates something that minimizes any player's attainment of making a professional roster in the NBA in the regular season. My edit is aimed at removing a dichotomizing point that has no relevance to players, who have no idea because of the uniqueness of sharing a locker room or travel or workouts or camps or anything related to this level with them. It appears that that is respected on wikipedia because the many other players who were on active rosters (in the NBA, all who are signed and occupy one of the 13-15 active roster spots, which is often confused with the players designated as "active" for each individual game) but did not play (whether due to injury rehab or because they were signed for the playoff run in case of injury or whatever), do not have such a notation. As such, my recent change I felt was both diplomatic, sensitive, and accurate, without pointing out something that diminishes a lot in a less than judicious way. It has relevance because that's what happened and players who don't ever appear in a game for an NBA franchise don't show on the historical NBA player rolls. If it's there, readers wonder why the team category isn't included, why the team doesn't show inthe club history, etc. (these things are added once players actually play for a team). Saying someone never played a game for a franchise is not a negative statement. It's merely a factual one. And it's a somewhat unusual case, so it's worth noting. This league is less than minor - it's essentially a pro-am. Somogyi had FOUR highlights from it, but the only one I removed was "all-playoff team" because we never put all-tournament in the infobox. My apologies, I thought you removed the champion highlight from Somogyi's article as well. Fair enough re all-playoff team. It just seemed odd to me the random removal but the more I think about it I don't really care haha. I'm not sure why I still have either on my watchlist. TBH - I might just remove the line in the prose in Nunnally's article seeing as he's had a more notable career. Unanimous AA's

It shows a higher level of consensus. After a quick scan of 2016 college football AAs, it seems inconsistently applied in bios. The other thing I realized is that some players would be consensus one year and unanimous the next, and probably not worth having two ibox entries in that case. No, we shouldn't. The infobox is meant to be abbreviated. If you are showing how many first team and second team readers can add. You can always be more detailed in a list in the body of the article. Hello, sorry to bother you. As you are contributing a lot to basketball-related topics on wikipedia, I just wanted to ask for your opinion. I have edited the Braydon Hobbs article like two weeks ago, adding stats and a couple of lines to his career - nothing special really. That's what I thought. I don't know why, but one user keeps reverting this edit without giving any explanation. I have tried to contact him several times via his talk page User talk:OnkelCharlie‎ to ask what was wrong with my edit, but he never replied. Well, I was just thinking about getting your opinion as an experienced user on how to solve this problem. Don't know if they're anything wrong my the edit which the user keeps reverting, I thought it was ok, but maybe I'm wrong. there shouldn't be, but it can't be helped if some editors have erroneously put this in the infobox. The infobox is limited space, so some types of awards are left off wholesale - player of month/week, preseason awards, non-official awards (like eurobasket.com) and all-Tournament. TW in current roster templates

Is adding "TW" the norm now for two-way players e.g. {{Los Angeles Lakers current roster}}? Seems like most wouldn't know what a two-way players is. Might be better to leave that detail for larger roster listings, and keep the navboxes at bottom of articles simple, just a way to navigate to other players on roster. I think it should stay as these are 2 additional roster spots (i.e. - should appear in the current roster template) but they will spend have the year in the G League team by design. I think taking them on and off the NBA team roster is silly because they are on the (what is now) 17-man roster. Maybe adding some template documentation I'll do the trick. There are letter codes on other Basketball current roster templates (example - Template:Perth Wildcats current roster. I understood. If you are asking me personally if I think we should take "TW" off the current roster templates, my answer is "no." I think treating them like every other player encourages people to take them off when they are down in the G League, and I think that's the wrong approach. I am pretty opposed to adding a key that shows up on the template because it needlessly clogs up the template, but ok with template documentation. The lead for every one of these players indicates that they are on a two-way contract so I feel like if there is confusion people can figure it out by clicking the link. Something's Screwy With The NBA's Links For Box Scores Lately

Hey, I'm not sure if you're the best guy I should talk to with regards to something I've noticed with the NBA.com's pages for box scores, but lately, instead of just taking me to the page with the game in question (regardless of whether there's a # on the link or not), it just transports me to the NBA's League Pass page for some unknown reason. I bring this up because I'm not sure if it's just me having this problem (especially since I've lately been a Vivaldi browser user above all others like Google Chrome or Firefox, although I still use those from time to time) or if it's a problem other users are having also, but it's been a concern I've lately got here. Big East

FYI, The AAC and the new Big East both claim the records of the old Big East conference. You can read the history here: 2010–13 Big East Conference realignment. It's a kind of confusing and unusual situation. The AAC is the legal successor of the Big East and the new Big East bought the name from them. Hi, I'd just like to know if there's a reason you deleted the arrow (→) on the Arvesta Kelly article for his period with the Columbus Comets. It was my understanding that it's used when major league players get loaned to minor league teams such as players in the G-League (ex: Bruno Caboclo).
