Jo Stafford GA

Hi again. Hope you had a good Christmas and New Year. I was wondering if you'd be happy for the article to go forward for GAN. The peer review and copyediting are all complete now and it seems to be quite detailed. Let me know if it's ok and I'll add it to the queue. Paul MacDermott (talk) 13:17, 4 January 2013 (UTC)

Fantastic, I'll add it to the list and see how things go. It's a shame you didn't get the recognition for the Como article because it's very good. I'm happy for you to be a co-nominee on this one as you've done most of the work towards getting it ready. Paul MacDermott (talk) 23:24, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
OK, I've added the template to the talk page, so the bot will do the rest. Hopefully it won't be too long before someone reviews it as music-related articles seem to be one of the more popular subjects. Just had a very quick look at Red Skelton. I reckon it's well on the way to GA standard so it's worth taking it forward. Btw, do you have a ref for Jo Stafford's appearance in the Martha sketch? It might be good to drop something about it into the section on her comety performances. Paul MacDermott (talk) 23:49, 4 January 2013 (UTC)
Fantastic. Thanks for those. One thing I never thought of doing was compiling a filmography listing her various film and television appearances, so I'll work on that tomorrow. It should be ok to add the main ones to the article then do a separate page with a more comprehensive list. Paul MacDermott (talk) 00:31, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Just had a quick read and it seems ok. Paul MacDermott (talk) 00:46, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

Back again. As promised I've just created a filmography. I copied it from imdb, so it's split into acting and personal credits, though I'm not sure all the ones listed as acting credits strictly fall into that category. The Voice of Firestone and Shower of Stars are listed in both for example, so it may be better to merge the two sections together. Tomorrow I'll add a selected filmography to the article, perhaps just listing what is already included in the main text along with a couple of the films. Let me know if I've missed anything out from the list. Paul MacDermott (talk) 23:07, 5 January 2013 (UTC)

That's great, thanks. I thought I should write a short lead too, just to introduce the article. Paul MacDermott (talk) 23:35, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
That sounds like it would be worth adding. I know we can use Alexander's Ragtime Band because it's mentioned and sourced earlier on, but if there are refs for the others it'll help to enhance the list a bit more. Paul MacDermott (talk) 23:48, 5 January 2013 (UTC)
Brilliant, I'll make a start on it tomorrow afternoon. Paul MacDermott (talk) 00:01, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for adding all the refs to the filmography, it's really taking shape now. I think you're right about mentioning her eyesight. We do need to say something about it somewhere. Paul MacDermott (talk) 16:13, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Must admit that does make things a bit confusing. :) Not sure what we do here, but I wonder if she sang with both in different parts of the film. Paul MacDermott (talk) 16:35, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I reckon you could be right actually, which really does present a conundrum. :) Paul MacDermott (talk) 16:48, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
That sounds like it would work. Paul MacDermott (talk) 16:55, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
No worries, I think I might have fixed the book ref. Paul MacDermott (talk) 17:24, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
That looks great now, thanks. I've copied a couple of refs from the main article to the new film and television section so hopefully everything is covered. Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:30, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
Yes, indeed. We just need someone to review it now. :) Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:57, 6 January 2013 (UTC)
I agree with you on that one. I wouldn't like to be the reviewer who got something like Astrophysics or General Theory of Relativity because it happened to be at the top of the pile. :) I know in the past there's been one or two discussions about creating a peer review system similar to DYK, but I think they're usually abandoned because it's felt people would be put off being involved. Paul MacDermott (talk) 19:17, 6 January 2013 (UTC)

Great news, I've just had the article passed for GA. :) Paul MacDermott (talk) 16:11, 14 February 2013 (UTC)

Commons image question

Hi We hope, I have a question about an image I would like to use and know that you have been involved in uploading similar images before. I have only a rudimentary grasp of copyright law (and only as it relates to the UK, not US), so any help you can give would be good. I am surrently updating the Terry-Thomas article and have come across this image, which carries details of the Baltimore Sun on the reverse (or possibly this one or this one). Are either of these OK to upload to Commons, based on what you can see from the image? If not, if there a rule of thumb about what information must be present on the reverse to be happily considered "free"? Many thanks for any help or advice - SchroCat (talk) 17:11, 26 April 2013 (UTC)

Wikiwatcher1

Today we had a flurry of images deleted that were uploded by Wikiwatcher1 as see here at commons. Not sure if Wikipedia:Contributor copyright investigations/Wikiwatcher1 is still open but we literally have hundreds of images uploaded in the past few months to both Wikipedia and commons that i guess we have to look over.Moxy (talk) 22:57, 9 May 2013 (UTC)

George Kennedy

Nice to see you around again. Any chance you could maybe dig up any photos for George Kennedy? Thanks, – Connormah (talk) 00:57, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Re:Jonathan and Darlene Edwards

Thanks for these, I'll take a look at them this evening. Great to have you back, btw. Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:59, 30 August 2013 (UTC)

Re:Jonathan and Darlene Edwards

Wasn't quite sure how to arrange some of the stuff, but it might be good to merge their media appearances somehow. Got a bit sidetracked again earlier, but have been reading through everything again tonight, and got more information re the early days of Jonathan and Darlene. There's an interesting story about how Jonathan Edwards was named. The original Jonathan Edwards had been president of Yale University, and George Avakian was a Yale graduate. He had the idea for the name because the pianist Roger Williams was named for another preacher from Rhode Island. Also, Dick Whittinghill announced Darlene as the best singer he'd ever heard, then played her version of "It's Magic" on the radio. Afterwards, people contacted him to say "We have trusted you all these years, all our lives. This woman is terrible, how can we ever believe in you again?". Others said they had to stop their cars because they were afraid to drive while she was singing. :) I'll add some of this before I sign off for the night, and also post the notes I made about the Bob Claster interview on the talk page in case there's anything useful that can be added. Paul MacDermott (talk) 22:35, 2 September 2013 (UTC)

Probably useful to grab some more screenshots as the article could do with some other images. Also, seems to flow better with the changes re media. I've found a bit of an anomaly with the origin of Jonathan Edwards. The bio says he was president of Yale, but it looks like it was actually Princeton, so I'll have to adjust things slightly. Will also see what else I can add. Paul MacDermott (talk) 14:22, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for updating those. I meant to do it when I was working on the FAC, but forgot. Paul MacDermott (talk) 17:04, 3 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks for those. Thought it was best to add one with them all in, but some of the others can be used elsewhere. Can eventually add one to Paul's article, and one or two other places. Paul MacDermott (talk) 19:23, 3 September 2013 (UTC)

The Haunting (1963 film)

Hi, I'm preparing this for GA and uploaded File:The Haunting staircase.jpg. Can you sort out the rationale/licensing?♦ Dr. Blofeld

Perry Como discography

There are still lots of ELs in the article. Also the links you removed, was there something wrong with them? I understand that it's about fixing into the correct format ie "<ref> and </ref>" or moving them to the External links section. That tag should go back as the issue is far from resolved. Thanks! Will have a look. :-) We hope (talk) 23:06, 19 September 2013 (UTC)
photo 1 probably belongs to the newspaper; the guy who wrote the story pasted on the back also took the photo, so he's probably an employee of it.
photo 2 doesn't tell us where it came from.
photo 3 is from AP.
photo 4-the yearbook-we don't know if the school copyrighted it or not. We hope (talk) 00:24, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Re:More on Jo

That's fantastic, thanks. I'll add the start date to her article. While I'm here, I was wondering if you might have a source for her EMMY nomination. I've checked online, but can't get to it on the EMMYs site, and the only other place seems to be IMDB which no-one seems to like for FAs. Hoping to tackle Paul's article shortly. Have been offline most of this week, but plan to start in the next few days. Paul MacDermott (talk) 17:35, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Great, I'll look forward to reading it. :) In the meantime I might grab some stuff from Gene Lees' bio, and perhaps work on expanding the lede. Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:15, 20 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks again, it is a bit confusing. I couldn't even find the search bar when I looked before. :) Paul MacDermott (talk) 18:18, 20 September 2013 (UTC)

Johnny Mercer Music Shop

Yes, I'd be very interested. Can always use them somewhere. I don't understand why some links are suddenly banned. I couldn't even post the otrcat source to the talk page to ask about it without ignoring wiki format. Paul MacDermott (talk) 21:43, 25 September 2013 (UTC)

Just been looking into this, and think the discussion board for unblocking them is at MediaWiki talk:Spam-whitelist. There's also a corresponding one for blacklisting links. Hope they don't blacklist Amazon as well, that would make things very difficult. Paul MacDermott (talk) 22:15, 25 September 2013 (UTC)
Thanks, lots of great music on there. Might buy myself one or two for Christmas. :) Paul MacDermott (talk) 14:33, 26 September 2013 (UTC)

Book images

Hey, where you been – I missed ya! Thanks for those book images We hope. Best, --Discographer (talk) 21:51, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

I think I prefer the current Mamas & Papas photo. I do have a request for a new image, that is of The Andantes, also for use in Book:The Andantes. If you can see what you can do, I'd really appreciate it. Best, --Discographer (talk) 22:28, 30 September 2013 (UTC)

File:Gene and Glenn Jake and Lena 1935.JPG

I see no source verifying this image is a publicity photo. The three eBay links are dead, and there are no useful archived versions at the Wayback Machine. How are you determining that this file is in fact a publicity photo and not from some private collection? Levdr1lp / talk 03:37, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

The photo has both front and back of it in the original upload. The text on back is: "Gene and Glenn otherwise "Jake and Lena" of radio fame who headline Michigan Theatre bill this week." The photo has a date stamp of July 19, 1935. The original upload also shows edit marks for use by print media. We hope (talk) 03:51, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
(edit conflict)Yes, I've seen the two sides, I've read the text on the reverse, and I've seen the timestamp. None of that seems to verify that this image is a publicity photo. I'm also concerned that you are apparently unable to connect this image to either WTAM or NBC. How do we know this image is not from some private collection? Levdr1lp / talk 03:59, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Rather than argue about it, I'll G-7 it. We hope (talk) 04:07, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Fair enough. Levdr1lp / talk 04:09, 9 October 2013 (UTC)
Well I moved the image to Commons because it seems clear to me that it is a publicity photograph. Levdr1 is free to nominate it for deletion there. Magog the Ogre (tc) 09:28, 9 October 2013 (UTC)

Chessie

I swear I looked everywhere (including eBay, following your example) for a promotional Chessie image. Lesson learned: leave this sort of thing to the expert! I'm delighted that you took the trouble to find that image; the article looks so much better with that splash of color. Thanks again, Mackensen (talk) 14:46, 20 October 2013 (UTC)
