Voltaire edit

I was not in favor of such a big section myself, but there was huge debate after some editor had completely copied the text from French Wikipedia and used Google translator. It was not even neutral but after some days(when I was on break), some other users would attempt to make it neutral or at least look real, free of original research. Whenever you place these tags[1] you should also post on the talk page. Bladesmulti (talk) 16:08, 5 February 2015 (UTC)Reply

Credinka moved to draftspace edit

An article you recently created, Credinka, does not have enough sources and citations as written to remain published. It needs more citations from reliable, independent sources. (?) Information that can't be referenced should be removed (verifiability is of central importance on Wikipedia). I've moved your draft to draftspace (with a prefix of "Draft:" before the article title) where you can incubate the article with minimal disruption. When you feel the article meets Wikipedia's general notability guideline and thus is ready for mainspace, please follow the prompts on the Articles for Creation template atop the page. ... discospinster talk 19:07, 10 September 2018 (UTC)Reply

Discussion Pages edit

Hello and welcome to Wikipedia.I would like to give you a kind reminder that Wikipedia's discussion pages are not meant to be used as forums. This means that contributions to discussion pages should only be reserved for items that are:

  • Directly discussing the improvement of the article.
  • Challenging an incorrect statement.
  • Contributing something meaningful and substantial to an active discussion.

IP blocked edit

This user's unblock request has been reviewed by an administrator, who declined the request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy).

Qzekrom (block logactive blocksglobal blockscontribsdeleted contribsfilter logcreation logchange block settingsunblockcheckuser (log))

Request reason:

Caught by a web host block but this host or IP is not a web host. My IP address is 108.168.227.220. I am using the Internet from a Greyhound bus and apparently this is the bus Wi-Fi's public IP address. Qzekrom (talk) 7:49 pm, Today (UTC+1)

Decline reason:

This is procedural decline; the reason for the block was because of public wifi on a bus which the editor is (obviously) no longer on. Ritchie333 (talk) (cont) 14:11, 18 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

If you want to make any further unblock requests, please read the guide to appealing blocks first, then use the {{unblock}} template again. If you make too many unconvincing or disruptive unblock requests, you may be prevented from editing this page until your block has expired. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked.

:@GeneralizationsAreBad: This is indeed a webhost. The ISP of that IP is SoftLayer, which offers cloud computing. I'm not sure why on earth a Greyhound bus would have that IP, but this rangeblock shouldn't be lifted. We can certainly provide short-term IPBE if needed. ~ Rob13Talk 01:15, 24 February 2019 (UTC)Reply

GeneralizationsAreBad - I'd second that this appears to be a webhost. As BU Rob13 mentions, I'm not sure why on earth it would be used on a bus - other than possibly hosting a content filter. I noticed that this request has been open for 10 days now. Are you still looking into this block? Qzekrom - Are you still running into this block? SQLQuery me! 23:31, 4 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hey Qzekrom edit

Hello, Qzekrom! Fellow genderfluid-type person here with a bit of info for you.

I wanted to let you know that we don't hold for "lack of consensus" at WP:ANRFC. We also don't strictly count votes as well per WP:!VOTE. The purpose of WP:ANRFC is to find individuals who are willing to measure the arguments on both sides. This way they can (1) determine if there is a possibility for consensus and (2) summarize what that consensus is.

This makes us a wee bit different from WP:XfD. We are able to choose: whether a discussion should be closed by us at all, if it should be closed as no consensus, or in rare cases seek to get it reactive for further discussion. With this in mind, I highly recommend striking this. When it comes to uses of {{on hold}}, we normally limit it to instances when the discussion is still active or there is a technical problem in getting it done.

WP:ANRFC can be tough sometimes because we really haven't written most of this stuff down at the moment. If you ever want to co-close something with me or have any questions, ping me or write on my talk page. I'm always here for you! :D –MJLTalk 19:55, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

@MJL: Thanks for the pointers! From what I see, it's an expired RfC that is unlikely to reach agreement, so I suppose it should be closed anyway. I like to "show my work" when I make decisions, and I used the !vote tally to determine that there was no consensus. I would not use !votes to show that there is consensus. I'll change it to "Comment". Qzekrom 💬 theythem 21:10, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply
It's the least I could do, and that all makes sense. Thank you for fixing it! As I said, if there's anything I can ever do for you, please let me know. I'm always happy to help~! –MJLTalk 21:40, 11 March 2019 (UTC)Reply

Google Code-In 2019 is coming - please mentor some documentation tasks! edit

Hello,

Google Code-In, Google-organized contest in which the Wikimedia Foundation participates, starts in a few weeks. This contest is about taking high school students into the world of opensource. I'm sending you this message because you recently edited a documentation page at the English Wikipedia.

I would like to ask you to take part in Google Code-In as a mentor. That would mean to prepare at least one task (it can be documentation related, or something else - the other categories are Code, Design, Quality Assurance and Outreach) for the participants, and help the student to complete it. Please sign up at the contest page and send us your Google account address to google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org, so we can invite you in!

From my own experience, Google Code-In can be fun, you can make several new friends, attract new people to your wiki and make them part of your community.

If you have any questions, please let us know at google-code-in-admins@lists.wikimedia.org.

Thank you!

Template:Emoji edit

Hi, I noticed Template:Emoji/testcases showing up in Category:Templates with missing files and your addition of Module:Emoji looks like an improvement. I previewed Template:Emoji/Gallery wit the update and it shows no issues. So I was just wondering if there was a reason why you didn't proceed and update the root template? Cheers KylieTastic (talk) 14:33, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply

@KylieTastic: Aw man, this is from way back. I guess I felt bad for letting others implement all the coding parts.
Concretely, though, one problem is that it still doesn't have an "auto mode." For example, I'd like to be able to pass in either an emoji name or a hex code - so either {{#invoke:Emoji | auto | smiley}} or {{#invoke:Emoji | auto | 1f603}}, so it doesn't break all the current usages. Qzekrom (she/her • talk) 17:29, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
Update: I added two named parameters to the template, name and hex, and a sub-template Template:Emoji/auto that handles those parameters, as well as the unnamed parameter 1 for backward compatibility.   Qzekrom (she/her • talk) 17:54, 27 June 2021 (UTC)Reply
