AfD discussions edit

Greetings, Praveshksingh, and welcome to Wikipedia's deletion process! Thank you for your contributions. As a newcomer, it may be helpful for you to read Wikipedia's deletion policy, and the pages describing the articles for deletion process, proposed deletion, and speedy deletion. Remember that deletion debates are not votes, and reasons matter, especially reasons relating to the central content policies of verifiability, neutral point of view, no original research, and what Wikipedia is not, and to the consensual community guidelines for biographies, corporations, music, and fiction. Also remember that deletion is not always the answer to a bad article. Feel free to drop me a line at my talk page if you have any questions. Again, welcome! Draft:Santsevi Paramhans edit

I am sorry, but now that I look at your new draft, I have to delete it again, because it is still largely copied from http://www.speakingtree.in/spiritual-blogs/seekers/science-of-spirituality/maharshi-santsevi-ji-paramhans-the-light-that-shone-the-way-180471?track=cntshem&sort=like. Wikipedia cannot accept material which is a copyright violation, for legal reasons we must delete it. If you own the copyright to this material and want to copy it, or quote sections from it, you must make a copyright release, as described at Wikipedia:Donating copyright materials.

But that will not be enough because, although you have removed a few passages, what is left is still far too promotional in tone for an encyclopedia article. What you wrote for speakingtree.in was what I would describe as a "hagiography", full of admiration and expressing your opinion about what a wonderful person the subject was: "His modest disposition, magnetic persona, sweet charming voice, flawless pronunciation, captivatingly melodious rendition of devotional mystic hymns, captivating scholarly discourses..." etc. That is fine for a blog like that, but not for an encyclopedia, where a fundamental policy is WP:Neutral point of view.

You need to start with a clean sheet and write a plain description of the facts of Santsevi Paramhans' life, without any opinions. The reader of an encyclopedia article should not be able to tell what the author's personal opinion of his subject is. In this kind of writing, it is very good advice to take out all the adjectives. I suggest you ask for advice at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject India - ask them to point out some examples of acceptable articles about spiritual leaders like this, preferably articles that are at WP:Good article status, which you could use as a model.

One last point - when you ask someone to comment on an article or a draft, you do not need to copy the whole thing. Just give a link to it. If you put double square brackets round the name of a page, that will make a "Wikilink" to it - typing [[Wikipedia:Your first article]] gives Wikipedia:Your first article - which contains some good advice. JohnCD (talk) 23:20, 30 December 2014 (UTC)Reply

Dear JohnCD,
Warm Regards!
Please accept my grateful thanks for taking pains to reply at length.
I understand that you are fully within your rights to delete the article again. However, I very humbly submit that the article on speakingtree.in site that you have referred is my own article. So, it should not be a case of copyright violation for what is there on speakingtree is my own article. I have removed the sentences that sounded like personal opinion and what is left looks fairly like an historic account. I have given dates also wherever required and have attached references as well.
So, it is my humble request that please don't delete the article again...yes, if you still feel that some sentences need to be modified, kindle suggest so and i will comply, but please don't delete the article...even if i write the article once again, it would only change the words or sentences and not the basic information. Maharshi Santsevi Paramhans lived in recent times and, therefore, there is nothing mythical about his life...So, please reconsider your decision...i m ready to incorporate any changes that you would suggest.
Hoping and praying for due consideration,
Kind regards!

I don't think you have read what I wrote above. Let me repeat:
Copyright: it does not matter how many times you say you wrote the original. All we know is that someone using the same username says so. That does not provide the legal certainty Wikipedia needs to be sure we are not violating the original author's copyright. The only way this material can be accepted is if the copyright owner follows the steps explained in Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials.
Promotion: let me repeat just part of one sentence of your text:

"His modest disposition, magnetic persona, sweet charming voice, flawless pronunciation, captivatingly melodious rendition of devotional mystic hymns, captivating scholarly discourses... "

That is not a historic, factual account, it is an expression of admiration and love: eight out of twenty words are glowing adjectives of praise - fine for your blog, absolutely not for an encyclopedia. If you cannot see that, I am afraid you are too close to your subject, too involved with it, to be able to write about him in the neutral tone that Wikipedia requires as a fundamental policy.

Please read the guidelines on spam and Wikipedia:FAQ/Organizations for more information.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. A tag has been placed on Maharshi Santsevi Paramhans requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. Hi! I saw your letter to Yunshui was posted to mainspace and nominated for deletion. You should write to his talk page here, instead of posting an article in the main encyclopedia. You should copy the letter you wrote while you still can, before it gets deleted. Mcampany (talk) 05:47, 28 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
