Brooke Lyons' birth date (Part 2)

I had to bring up again, but Brooke Lyons' birth year is still believed to be 1980. As it is said on her IMDb profile, which is also linked on her official website. After searching on Google, that is also the only year I could connect her to. Also, I asked her twice through Twitter if the date on her IMDb profile is actually hers, no response, not that I blame her, it is an odd question to ask in general on Twitter, anyway. I'm thinking maybe, just maybe that the full date on IMDb is correct. Yes IMDb is not considered 100% reliable, but is a known fact that actors themselves, edit their own profiles. It is said so many times that "anyone" can edit IMDb like here on Wikipedia, when that is not true at all. IMDb clearly states that "When submitting/correcting a date of birth you *must* include: URLs to public records, printed publications, or official documents to accompany your submission". Birth records websites can only be accessed if you are a already member and/or must pay a fee. No one should obviously go through that trouble just to find a birthdate. I certainly admire the effort you're putting in to finding a reliable source! I'm going to sound a bit like a broken record here, but IMDB has been shown time and time again to be unreliable - I have personally responded to angry emails via OTRS from Wikipedia subjects who dispute the accuracy of the information we have in their articles, specifically information that was sourced to IMDB. It is simply not reliable enough to be used with any certainty. There is absolutely no draw back in keeping the date out of the article until it can be confirmed (which is actually what BLP policy dictates we do), her notability and place in Wikipedia is tied to her roles and coverage, not her birthdate. I'm certain the year will eventually be verified in a source meeting WP:RS, and on that day I'll buy you a virtual beer :) --Jezebel'sPonyo^{bons mots} 00:07, 8 March 2012 (UTC)

Max Bernstein musician page

Hi Ponyo -

I have edited this article down a bit to reflect that fact that this is a very not-well known musician with very little relevance other than a hired gig for a major pop act. The prior expansion of the page copied excessive information - nearly every factoid in it, from an obscure published interview, one of the only ever published on this obscure artist. As there are many far more accomplised guitarists with much shorter pages, it doesn't make sense to have information on say, the songwriting process of someone who has sold under 2000 copies of any one particular song, etc. Tacomailman (talk) 22:59, 9 March 2012 (UTC)

If the information is reliably sourced there is no need to remove it. Please bring up your concerns on the talk page to allow other editors' input as opposed to blanking the content. You're not really "editing it down a bit" so much as pulling out all of the content. Hello. Recently 2 of my pages have been deleted due to the fact that I am a 'minor' and should not show my age. However, the pages were removed before the last revision, where I removed my age. It really doesn't matter what other people do, you are responsible for your own editing and ensuring you are following Wikipedia policies. When a policy is pointed out to you, especially one as bright-line as our copyright policy, and you choose to ignore it, then it is completely reasonable that your account be blocked to prevent further disruption. It was not a "threat", it was an explanation as to why the link should not be restored, along with a pointer to the relevant policies, and a warning that continued linking to copyright violating material would result in a block. --Jezebel'sPonyo^{bons mots} 16:08, 13 March 2012 (UTC)

While the addition of neutrally written material accompanied by a reliable source is welcome, adding reviews, quotes and promotional links is against Wikipedia policy. help triage some feedback

I appreciate this isn't quite what you signed up for, but I figured as people who are already pretty good at evaluating whether material is useful or not useful through Special:NewPages, you might be interested :). Over the last few months we've been developing the new Article Feedback Tool, which features a free text box. it is imperative that we work out in advance what proportion of feedback is useful or not so we can adjust the design accordingly and not overwhelm you with nonsense.

This is being done through the Feedback Evaluation System (FES), a tool that lets editors run through a stream of comments, selecting their value and viability, so we know what type of design should be promoted or avoided. We're about to start a new round of evaluations, beginning with an office hours session tomorrow at 18:00 UTC. If you'd like to help preemptively kill poor feedback, come along to #wikimedia-office and we'll show you how to use the tool. Now this was four days ago and it doesn't seem to have bothered Don much so I don't think there is any action needed right now but I am wondering where the best place to report this is should they resume their activities. f/u is commonly used as an acronym for follow-up, but I could see how some could possibly misconstrue the letters into something less civil. Dispute with a user

Hello again Ponyo. I am in this useless edit war with User:LiamNolan15212, over what appears to me as a redundant subsection on the Milan Cheylov article. Not only that but the user is using a TV show Wiki as a source, which is user-submitted. I left messages on his talk page, he deletes them, I have reported him to the noticeboards, I have been ignored. From what I can see there is nothing that an admin can do here as it is essentially a content dispute. What I would do specifically regarding the Cheylov article is to seek a third opinion on the talk page. I know you've interacted with this editor on a few occasions in the past and wondered if you could take a look at the tagging I've had to do on images he's uploaded? (10 either deletes or tagging for further investigation as strongly suspected to be copyvios) I think there might be reasonable grounds for a topic ban on uploading of media until he acknowledges that he understands wikipedia copyright policy and agrees to abide by that policy, what do you think? That was a clear case of WP:DUCK (see this for example) so I blocked the IP - he's been using it for a long time, so I've locked it down for a month. He's also used this same range previously to attack editors after I left a warning on their main account. A big NPT update

Hey! Big update on what the developers have been working on, and what is coming up:

coding

• Fixes for the "moved pages do not show up in Special:NewPages" and "pages created from redirects do not show up in Special:NewPages" bugs have been completed and signed off on. Unfortunately we won't be able to integrate them into the existing version, but they will be worked into the Page Triage interface.
• Coding has been completed on three elements; the API for displaying metadata about the article in the "list view", the ability to keep the "patrol" button visible if you edit an article before patrolling it, and the automatic removal of deleted pages from the queue. All three are awaiting testing but otherwise complete.

All other elements are either undergoing research, or about to have development started. I appreciate this sounds like we've not got through much work, and truthfully we're a bit disappointed with it as well; we thought we'd be going at a faster pace :(. Unfortunately there seems to be some 24-72 hour bug sweeping the San Francisco office at the moment, and at one time or another we've had several devs out of it. It's kind of messed with workflow.

Stuff to look at

We've got a pair of new mockups to comment on that deal with the filtering mechanism; this is a slightly updated mockup of the list view, and this is what the filtering tab is going to look like. All thoughts, comments and suggestions welcome on the NPT talkpage :). I'd also like to thank the people who came to our last two office hours sessions; the logs will be shortly available here.

I've also just heard that the first functional prototype for enwiki will be deployed mid-April! Really, really stoked to see this happening :). We're finding out if we can stick something up a bit sooner on prototype.wiki or something.

I appreciate there may be questions or suggestions where I've said "I'll find out and get back to you" and then, uh. not ;p. I sincerely apologise for that: things have been a bit hectic at this end over the last few weeks. But if you've got anything I've missed, drop me a line and I'll deal with it! I hope you understand now. If you delete it, then you should also delete it from Nayef bin Sultan's page. Allright??

If Prince Abdul Rahman's son-in-law was implicated in some sort of scandal, then it could be included in the son-in-law's article (worded neutrally and supported by the requisite reliable sources). It would be WP:UNDUE to include it in the father-in-law's article as it is only tenuously related to the individual and his notability. It introduces negative material that is not actually related to the individual himself, running the risk of guilt by association (see WP:BLPSTYLE where this is discussed). I noticed you were a new pages patroller. I was thinking of getting involved in patrolling, but as with many things at Wikipedia, the initial steps, even for a moderately experienced editor like me, are a bit confusing. I've read some of the material, policies, etc., but I'm still unsure how best to wade in. Any suggestions? What about tools - are any of them helpful (beyond Twinkle, which I already use)? Sorry about the delay in replying, I was unexpectedly offline for a couple of days. I don't do too much new page patrolling these days; when I do I simply go to Special:NewPages and patrol about 5 days back (you have the option to "jump in" to the middle of the list in the first text box at the top of the page). I do it all the old-fashioned way, I've never used any semi-automated tools for editing, so I can't help with recommendations there. There are some exciting new developments in the works - make sure to pop over to Wikipedia:New Page Triage and sign up for the newsletter in order to keep up to date with the roll-out. You need a source which meets Wikipedia's reliable sourcing criteria in order to include the info. It's policy that such a source be included when adding or changing personal information in biographies. Note however that autiobiographies are strongly discouraged, and given the content you were including in the article there is no chance the article could or should be included. I don't want to be a part of Edit war rather i would love to be a part of discussion. However I am continuously seeing new links from reputed newspapers, websites and other sources and unable to understand why are you deleting them grossly. I think we must talk on the same. I find ujjwal patni very much notable (WP : BASIC WP: ANYBIO, WP : AUTHOR )

Clarification -

(1) If you don't find it notable enough in the lead, it could be included in the award section, Pls suggest.

(2) The organization is a training accreditation non profit organization so It would not be fair to question the notability of the organization. They are not stating that ujjwal patni is no 1 or single. They have published a list that shows the renowned trainers as per their evaluation parameters. We are no one to challenge their parameters. By any measure, this inclusion surely indicates the quality of his work as a Trainer.

(3) The name of ujjwal patni as a renowned trainer can be seen there with his image and the whole list is presented in the same way so nobody can deny this inclusion. We must relate the inclusion with other achievements to authenticate in case of doubt. This inclusion is supported by the Best Corporate Trainer of India Award mentioned in the award section that supports the quality of work of subject.

The certification is also displayed on the website www.ujjwalpatni.com as an additional source. After relating contents of the page, I don't require more citations.

Regarding Tarun Kranti Award/Puraskar

Clarification -

(1) I have cited a link that clearly mentions Dr Ujjwal patni as the chairman of Tarun award. All the other ctations contain photographs to support the same. However I am looking for more citations on this.

(2) I have cited the original press release from the government department of Public relations of Madhya pradesh , the biggest state of India. This citation asserts the importance of award as The Governor of state himself presented the award and made an official press release too. This is sufficient enough to make it notable.

(3) I have also cited newspapers giving prominent coverage to Tarun Kranti award with photograph . If we don't understand a foreign language, we can relate the photos very easily. In India the main language is hindi, so the subject is right in presenting the citations of top hindi newspapers of india.

(4) As an additional source, a link of Ujjwal patni's website is added, which presents a special page on Tarun Kranti award puraskar with photos.

(5)The winners are all prominent personalities and already have a place in wikipedia thus justifying the notability of award

The citations are very reputed with proper title, publishing date and the publisher details. All the citations from multiple sources focus exclusively on the award and winners in same context. By relating all this , i feel that Tarun Kranti puraskar is important enough to be presented specifically so a special section has been created. I would request you to talk before deleting.

We need your genuine help as we are not good at working on wiki. Previously also you did justice to the page of Ujjwal patni and saved it from speedy deletion last year.

We are not able to understand...how to make the subject more notable because he is already having the highest of achievements of his field. The biggest problem is that the indian newspapers do not keep the links alive for long time however the achievements are clearly visible on Google. We have presented some fresh links and we need your help.

The article is not currently at risk of deletion, there is a clean-up tag alerting other editors that there may be an issue with regard to notability. What I would suggest is to review Wikipedia:Notability (people) and then to note on the article talk page which points of the notability criteria you believe that Ujjwal Patni meets. Other editors can discuss this with you, and if there is agreement that the notability tag is inappropriate then it can be removed. New Pages update

Hey Ponyo/Archive 13 :). A quick update on how things are going with the New Page Triage/New Pages Feed project. As the enwiki page notes, the project is divided into two chunks: the "list view" (essentially an updated version of Special:NewPages) and the "article view", a view you'll be presented with when you open up individual articles that contains a toolbar with lots of options to interact with the page - patrolling it, adding maintenance tags, nominating it for deletion, so on.

On the list view front, we're pretty much done! We tried deploying it to enwiki, in line with our Engagement Strategy on Wednesday, but ran into bugs and had to reschedule - the same happened on Thursday :(. We've queued a new deployment for Monday PST, and hopefully that one will go better. If it does, the software will be ready to play around with and test by the following week! :).

On the article view front, the developers are doing some fantastic work designing the toolbar, which we're calling the "curation bar"; you can see a mockup here. A stripped-down version of this should be ready to deploy fairly soon after the list view is; I'm afraid I don't have precise dates yet. When I have more info, or can unleash everyone to test the list view, I'll let you know :). As always, any questions to the talkpage for the project or mine. Thanks! In need of some suggestions

Hello P. I need to pick your brain about a long term but sporadic problem. Beginning last January a series of IP's from Rhode Island began messing with the

• MTV Movie Award for Best Villain (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views)

article. They constantly add actors and characters that were not nominated for the award. Here are the incarnations that I have tracked to date

• 70.172.221.207 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

This first one was a hassle as they had already been messing with several articles for sometime before I caught them and I had to dig into the history to fix things

• Moviegeek266 (talk · contribs · deleted contribs · logs · filter log · block user · block log)

I think that they thought if the created an account that we wouldn't check their work.

As you will see they occasionally add the fictitious nomination to the actors article as well. My dilemma is this because they take days or weeks off I'm not sure that a report to AIV will work as they will just wait out a block or switch IPs and go right back to their pesky ways. The same applies to RFPP. Again they would wait out a temporary protection. The only solution would seem to be a "Indefinite semi-protection" but I know that this is a "last resort when all else fails" kind of thing. The one reason that it might work is that info for past years won't change so there isn't any real need to edit it. When the new nominations and awards are announced they can be entered by an established user or an IP can post an edit request on the talk page. When you have a moment please let me know what you think and I will proceed from there. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Ok, I'm essentially back in the wiki-saddle (so to speak) and have looked at this. The edits are disruptive enough that blocking is certainly an option (and one that has been used previously with regards to Moviegeek266). Ping me if they pop up again (under any account or IP) and I'll lay down some preventative blocks - it could be that if we nail down a few of the IPs for a decent amount of time we will be able to avoid semi-protection. Although I intend to be around daily for the foreseeable future, please don't hesitate to send me an email if my response time lags; I always keep an eye on my email due to my AUSC commitments. New Page Triage/New Pages Feed

Hey all :). A notification that the prototype for the New Pages Feed is now live on enwiki! We had to briefly take it down after an unfortunate bug started showing up, but it's now live and we will continue developing it on-site.

Hello, Thank you for your feedback on the edits I made to the page Jonas Anderson (singer). I understand and respect the concern Wikipedia has in wanting to keep things factual and nuetral, so I wanted to ask for your help in sorting out the problem I have with this. I did a major edit on this page to make it factual and current as well as much more informative since the original article had almost no information, was very brief and majorly lacking in detail. In no way was I attempting to create an article that would be biased or leaning in any particular way. All of the information I included is 100% factual, and in fact verifiable, only this is difficult in English as almost all the information on Jonas is in Thai since he is known in Thailand. There is some information in Swedish too since he is Swedish. I did include links to two articles by Time Magazine available online and also a link to another independent website that had an English interview with Jonas. In the interest of providing the public with factual and more detailed information on Jonas Anderson, I would like to ask that you reconsider disallowing my article edits. Or else would it be possible to more specifically inform me what parts of the article were deemed not neutral so I can adjust it accordingly since I am new to Wikipedia editing? Being as Jonas Anderson is not Thai, there are frequent times when non-Thais want to look him up online for information which the article now really does not provide. Thank you.

The article edits as written cannot be restored as they violate several Wikipedia policies (mainly neutrality and verifiability). Please do add information, but you need to ensure that the material added is supported by reliable sources and is not worded in promotional tones. Using promotional buzz words such as "meteoric rise to fame", "Jonas attained instant nationwide recognizability" and "Before long Jonas Anderson had become a household name" makes the article non-neutral and this, combined with the lack of sourcing, is why your edits were reverted. The page WP:MOSBIO is helpful in describing how a Wikipedia biography article should read and WP:BTIP outlines useful tips on writing biographies. I hope this helps.
