Taare Zameen Par edit

Hey, just reminding you about Taare Zameen Par. Thanks again for your help. :) Ωphois 01:22, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the reminder. We'll see what I do. I'm a much bigger fan of Supernatural than I am of Bollywood, but I'm also a fan in general of film FAs. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 02:52, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

I semi-protected, not protected. Any editor willing to take responsibility for his actions can undo the redirect. Whether we agree on the final status of the article or not, the history of the article has involved people logging out to resurrect it so that their behaviour can't be traced to them. If it really sticks with you, I'll undo the semi and take it to RFPP. If you can show a discussion that shows people have agreed that Bulbasaur is notable, I'll undo the redirect myself. "It happened on RSN at some indeterminate point in the past" doesn't quite cut it.—Kww(talk) 04:27, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Shit, I was wrong. I thought you totally protected it (not that I'll do another revert either way).
By the way, I wanted to support you last RfA, but it was over before I noticed it. Anwyas, keep up the good work.
I'll find that discussion. It may take be bit, MUHAHAHAHA. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 04:33, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
Took it to RFPP anyway. I said I'd obey the letter of WP:INVOLVED, so I should hold myself to a high standard in that respect.—Kww(talk) 04:36, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply
I've never heard of that page, but I'll check it out. Anyways, the discussion is at Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Noticeboard/Archive_59#Humor.2Fsatire_articles. It's not a slam dunk, but I think the article deserves more than just a revert war. Maybe an AfD. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 04:41, 30 July 2010 (UTC)Reply

Chelsea edit

Thanks... I don't take it personally. I'm still convinced I'm right about needing to achieve NPOV on that issue and may pursue it further, but I'm trying to be consistent with policy and good sense. I'm letting myself cool down a bit on it.

I certainly have tried to reach a compromise on it, and at least one senior editor agreed with me. We'll see.

I'm learning a lot about editing protocols in the process.

I obviously don't spend a lot of time editing, but have really just cleaned up a few simple typos and the one you mentioned where a reference was just plain wrong.

I'm quickly learning that articles with even the slightest political overtones really challenge the goal of achieving NPOV.

Thanks again. John2510 (talk) 18:01, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sounds good. And yeah, politics, religion, and a number of other topics have a ton of drama associated with them. Some articles have maybe 100:1 talk page discussion to actual article. Wikipedian's also have a secular, science oriented, and left leaning bias, which may be a bit of what you ran into on the Chelsea article. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 18:09, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
Oh, and I don't think it would have the difference, but having a red linked username will cause people to trust your judgement a bit less. It makes people think you're new, and may not know what you're talking about. Fair or not. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 18:12, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
All interesting points. It's fair to trust newbies less... but it did get a little annoying when the sole point some made was, "You don't edit much, therefore you're wrong." Oh, well. I survived it without getting blocked. That was something of an accomplishment. Thanks again. John2510 (talk) 21:41, 2 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Peregrine Fisher! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot notifying you on behalf of the the unreferenced biographies team that 1 of the articles that you created is currently tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. The biographies of living persons policy requires that all personal or potentially controversial information be sourced. In addition, to ensure verifiability, all biographies should be based on reliable sources. If you were to bring this article up to standards, it would greatly help us with the current 940 article backlog. Once the article is adequately referenced, please remove the {{unreferencedBLP}} tag. Here is the article:

Lakeland Terrier edit

I'm working on this article (I have one of these great dogs). I see a minor fix needed but it's beyond me. There are 2 items listed under references which I think really belong under external links. Do you agree? If so, how do I move them ?

Thanks, Pal.Carmarg4 (talk) 13:38, 20 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

They're like little Airedales!
I moved one to kinda show how I would do it.[1] It probably still needs a bit of adjusting. Anyways, unlike the magical references with their ref tag that you write one place, and they show up another, external links are done manually right where you want to see them. Single square brackets, a URL, a space, and some text are used to create the link. For instance, [http://www.google.com/ GOOGLE] does this GOOGLE. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 14:36, 20 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lincoln - Two Sections Combined/Renamed edit

I combined "Lincoln-Douglas Debates of 1858" with "Prep for 1860 Election" and renamed the new section. It seemed right based on the small amount of content in both. It looks good to me but I've never been this bold before and would appreciate you taking a peek.Carmarg4 - not sure what happened there —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.125.211.3 (talk) 15:02, 23 August 2010 (UTC)Reply
It sounds like you're doing things correctly, per WP:BRD. In general and long story short, do whatever you want, but be prepared to fight about it in a way that can be very emotional. It can effect you more than you think. In this case, you're not actually doing anything that controversial, so the issue won't come up. We have kind of a "street cred" or something here on Wikipedia, so the more good edits you do (and you've done a ton), the more credence you'll be given if you ever do do something that other people don't like. At this point, just keep up the good work. If you do want to experience some animosity because you're curious, go edit an Israel/Palestine article. They use edits like weapons. It's pretty crazy. Also, work on signing your name with the four tildes. You can edit your own user page or talk page willy nilly all you want, so that's a good place to practice. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 04:52, 24 August 2010 (UTC)Reply

I am done edit

I'm glad you asked. I have finished Donald's book, and I went in to try to clean up the references. I looked yesterday at the intro and made a couple changes just to improve the readability. I will try to do that section by section but there are probably "writers" out there better suited for that function. But to answer your question, yes I am done in terms of the substance I thought I should add from reading the biography. I have no clue about when it should be renominated but I did want to let you know my "push" was done for the most part. I enjoyed it. I have a procedural question...when you send me a message at my talk page, is it best for me to reply on your talk page or mine?Carmarg4 (talk) 15:19, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Sounds good. I'm going to take a look and see if it's ready for GA or FA.
You can reply at either page. Most people keep the discussion in one place, but a substantial number like to go back and forth. Generally you want to watchlist talk pages where you are discussing things. Also, the first comment in a section should not be indented, so you're comment above and my reply are both indented once more than normal. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 16:51, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks; and let me know if I can help in any way. I will enjoy watching/helping the FA nomination process.Carmarg4 (talk) 19:59, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I would love to co nominate it with you. I think you'd enjoy the experience, although you have to remember to not take the criticism personally, it's just people trying to make the article as good as possible. I'm starting to go through it now, bottom up. The second half needs more work than the first. I'll start a discussion on the AL talk page. Maybe someone else will help. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 21:19, 10 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have reworked the Philosophy/religion section. Does the intro section need more cites? I'm glad to co-nominate with you...you've done this before so I will let you lead. let me know how and when I can help. I'll try to bone up on process.Carmarg4 (talk) 15:14, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
Looks good. I'm thinking about setting up a co nom for us, not sure when. I'm trying to think of obvious things that we can take care of before we start. I did the weired alt text for the images (for blind people). The main issue is still refs. I just noticed two more paras without refs, and then there's a number of scary paras that have a ref at the end, but I have a feeling it only covers the end of the para and not the whole thing. We can either nom it really soon, see what happens, and remember we can always nom it a second time. Or we can try and dot our i's, and maybe pass the first time. What do you think? - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 17:49, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply
I'll look at the paras.Carmarg4 (talk) 18:29, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

While that article may or may not be eligible for GA, to say that a discography cannot be a GA is wrong (there has been tons of discussion on this issue spanning several years, mostly in the context of Lists of episodes, but it relates). Because that's wrong, I think it's rude to remove someone else's nom without first discussing it on the GA talk page. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 06:29, 11 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Do you have much experience with templates and categories? I cannot figure out for the life of me why this category doesn't include all of the project participants displaying this template/userbox even though several people display the box. I think I am done. Let me know what I can do at this point if anything. Carmarg4 (talk) 21:00, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

It turns out not special knowledge is needed to finish the User:Peregrine_Fisher/ALFA2Archive#Sourcing_check._I.27ll_do_this.2C_since_it.27s_based_on_our_rules_which_I_know_already section, I think. I thought the refs were reliable, and would need a bit of research to prove it, but it turns out one isn't reliable, and the other is from a right wing group so probably isn't a high quality source. So they need Donald replacements. The rest is pretty self explanatory. I can finish off the section in the next couple of days, if you don't beat me to it.
More importantly, we need to figure out our next step. We can do several things. Ask NikkiMaria if she would continue her detailed review, make a new request at the copy editor guild, put it for a formal peer review, take it to WP:GA, or to WP:FA again. What do you think? - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 21:36, 23 September 2010 (UTC).Reply
I decided to go through and do a copy edit of my own. I have found a few down right sloppy spots and fixed them. We got a note from the very first c/e we initially heard from a week and a half ago; now offering to re-structure the prose and I told them to go for it. They won't start though for a week or two. I remember a note on the FAC saying this would need at least a couple thorough c/e's. Maybe we should try to give the c/e guild three swings at it and then take another step? Orphaned non-free image File:Jeffrey Jones from Voyagers.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading File:Jeffrey Jones from Voyagers.jpg. The image description page currently specifies that the image is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. Lincoln Copy Edit edit

I recall that by this time there was somone who was going to start a c/e; I can't remember who it was. This was to be the next step. You still think another c/e or 2 is advisable? Can you get somebody to initiate it? Hope all is well.Carmarg4 (talk) 00:35, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

To find out things you have forgotten, look at your "My contributions" at the top. I did so, and it's User talk:Livitup. They stopped editing after our discussion, so I'll drop them a line. If they don't respond, I'd like to take AL to WP:GA. It's a good interim step. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 03:33, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Pal. Let me know if I can help. I am working on Kennedy; about half way thru. I don't think I have it in me to do what is needed for Kennedy to get it really up to snuff, beyond adding the substance from the book.Carmarg4 (talk) 13:34, 15 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Lincoln page edit

Hello Peregrine Fisher, I am wondering why you removed the Lincoln memorial stamp from the Abraham Lincoln page that has had viewer consensus since May. That particular stamp is famous and is historic and was issued as a direct result of Lincoln's assassination. It was removed without any legitimate reason. Also, the Lincoln mask that was put in place of the Lincoln stamp is interesting, but it was made months before Lincoln's assassination and doesn't really belong in the 'Assassination' section. Somehow the citation tag was removed from its caption. The claim '2 months before his death' should have a citation. Other information, like who made this mask, is needed. I welcome the mask but it needs more information and wasn't placed in the best section, and at the cost of a relevant good faith contribution. If there is a disagreement of some sort a discussion would be appreciated. GWillHickers (talk) 10:48, 17 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry for the late reply. I tried to leave you a note before I reverted, but I don't think you replied. As I look closer, I think you're changes are good. What happened was, I saw the part you added about John Parker and the Star Saloon, but I didn't notice that you had added a ref to the Smithsonian Institute. The Star Saloon isn't mentioned in the Donald book which I thought was the only ref, so I reverted because I thought you were adding info that's not in a ref. We're trying to get the article to FA, and that would have been a no-no. Sorry for all the hoopla. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 15:53, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply
Hello again, well I'm glad to hear (in a way) that the omission of the Lincoln stamp was an oversight and not an inconsiderate way to make room for a new image (life mask) or a vindictive act of exclusion. As for John Parker and other references, I am not quite clear about your concern here. If the existing sources do not mention Parker then I find this a little curious. On the Assassination of Abraham Lincoln page Parker is mentioned as he is on the Abraham Lincoln White House page. It is generally considered a good thing to have more than one reference about a particular topic, and I would think a reference that cites info' (Parker, etc) that was previously missing in the article would help in the effort to make the Lincoln article a FA. -- GWillHickers (talk) 17:35, 19 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

File copyright problem with File:Sazae-san kamishibai.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Sazae-san kamishibai.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the file. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have uploaded other files, consider checking that you have specified their license and tagged them, too. You can find a list of files you have created in your upload log.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. Sfan00 IMG (talk) 12:56, 23 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Disputed non-free use rationale for File:Dum dum dugan.jpg edit

Thank you for uploading File:Dum dum dugan.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale provided for using this file on Wikipedia may not meet the criteria required by Wikipedia:Non-free content. This can be corrected by going to the file description page and adding or clarifying the reason why the file qualifies under this policy. Adding and completing one of the templates available from Wikipedia:Non-free use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your file is in compliance with Wikipedia policy. Please be aware that a non-free use rationale is not the same as an image copyright tag; descriptions for files used under the non-free content policy require both a copyright tag and a non-free use rationale.

If it is determined that the file does not qualify under the non-free content policy, it might be deleted by an administrator within a few days in accordance with our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions, please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you. SchuminWeb (Talk) 19:14, 28 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Wikipedia Ambassador Program is looking for new Online Ambassadors edit

Hi! Since you've been identified as an Awesome Wikipedian, I wanted to let you know about the Wikipedia Ambassador Program, and specifically the role of Online Ambassador. We're looking for friendly Wikipedians who are good at reviewing articles and giving feedback to serve as mentors for students who are assigned to write for Wikipedia in their classes.

If that sounds like you and you're interested, I encourage you to take a look at the Online Ambassador guidelines; the "mentorship process" describes roughly what will be expected of mentors during the current term, which started in January and goes through early May. If that's something you want to do, please apply!

You can find instructions for applying at WP:ONLINE. The main things we're looking for in Online Ambassadors are friendliness, regular activity (since mentorship is a commitment that spans several months), and the ability to give detailed, substantive feedback on articles (both short new articles, and longer, more mature ones).

I hope to hear from you soon.--Sage Ross - Online Facilitator, Wikimedia Foundation (talk) 00:57, 28 January 2011 (UTC)Reply
