Speedy deletion of Harold Mitchum edit

A tag has been placed on Harold Mitchum requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. - Realkyhick (Talk to me) 04:47, 16 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Adoption edit

Hi! I noticed you were seeking to be adopted and wanted to offer my assistance. I've been here for about 18 months and have made well over 6000 edits. If you have already been adopted or no longer want to be adopted then please just ignore this message. EconomicsGuy (talk) 20:03, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

I am defenitely in need of help. There is so much to learn. I accept your offer of adoption. Noxia (talk) 20:14, 18 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Excellent! I'm thrilled to be your new adopter! The way I prefer to start this is by having you ask whatever questions you might have as that will give me some idea of what we should concentrate on. Also, people start here for many different reasons so it would be a good idea if you tell me what your immediate goals are so we can focus on them. Another important issue is that there are no deadlines. We'll do this at your pace. I look forward to getting to know you! EconomicsGuy (talk) 12:00, 19 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

AfD nomination of Isshin-ryū Hall of Fame edit

An editor has nominated Isshin-ryū Hall of Fame, an article on which you have worked or that you created, for deletion. We appreciate your contributions, but the nominator doesn't believe that the article satisfies Wikipedia's criteria for inclusion and has explained why in his/her nomination (see also "What Wikipedia is not").

Your opinions on whether the article meets inclusion criteria and what should be done with the article are welcome; please participate in the discussion by adding your comments at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Isshin-ryū Hall of Fame and please be sure to sign your comments with four tildes (~~~~).

You may also edit the article during the discussion to improve it but should not remove the articles for deletion template from the top of the article; such removal will not end the deletion debate. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 19:59, 12 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

If I could make a suggestion out of experience: take a copy of the source of this article and save it on your pc. If you want to re-create or merge the information, it is easier if you have a personal copy of the source. jmcw (talk) 23:57, 14 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism edit

Hi Noxia, it looks like you are undoing some vandal edits today, which is very much appreciated. Suggestion though: take a look at the article history, or in the diff screen the name of the previous editor, to be sure you are getting all the bad edits. Here are two cases where you got one bad edit but missed the one before: Pierre Trudeau and Michael. It's important to undo back to the last good version, otherwise vandalism tends to get lost in the article history and stays for a long time. Cheers! Franamax (talk) 18:30, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for the notice. Is there some way to automatically revert back to the entry previous to all of the changes by the same person? Like what you are saying, without having to hit previous edit four times or switch to history view? I am currently using Diff view to determine if there is vandalism. Thanks again --Noxia (talk) 18:53, 3 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
The best way I've found is that when you bring up the diff, if the same editor is shown in both of the "Revision as of" on the left, and "Current revision" on the right, you click on the "history" tab so you can see what they've been up to. On the history page you can click the radio buttons to compare a whole set of changes, so you click the left circle at the last good version, leave the right circle at the top, then click on "Compare selected versions". Now you can see everything that editor has done, and you have the option to undo all those edits in one go. You have to put in your own edit summary, something like "rv vandal edits" or "rv to good version by (whoever)".
Another thing I always do is, when I find someone being a vandal, once I undo the bad edits, I go check their contribs to see what else they've been up to, and I leave that screen there and refresh it every ten minutes for an hour or two (most vandals get bored pretty quickly).
Do you have popups enabled in your preferences? Popups helps a lot to check on edits, history, user edits, etc. Also, "Add pages I edit to my watchlist" I find helpful. When you get comfortable reviewing other people's edits, you can also ask for rollback (if you don't already have it) - you still have to look at everything carefully, but it makes the actual reversion process a little quicker. Cheers! Franamax (talk) 00:12, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Take a look at this edit if you will, please. Uganda I undid two or three revision at once by moving back through the edits to find the last good page. I then hit undo there and wiki automatically undid all of the forward edits. I tried this another time and received the message that the edit could not be undone because of internediate edits. However, all of the internediate edits were by the same IP. This leads me to believe that there are some changes one can make in a row that would disallow a clean sweeup undo through the first edit. Thanks for your help! --Noxia (talk) 17:05, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
What you actually did there was to undo just the good edit that SmackBot made, someone else reverted the IP vandal. You need to go back there and undo your edit to fix things up. Now, two points:
  • If you want to undo a series of edits, you should do it using the buttons on the History screen as I described above. You can also use the procedure you describe but instead of hitting Undo, click "edit this page" and save it. I prefer using the history buttons.
  • Undoing SmackBot's edit the way you did was a mistake, but you can undo a single edit that's not at the top of the history list, but only if it's in a section of the article that no-one has changed since. So in Uganda, if a vandal had changed something in "Early political systems" last week, then other people made a bunch of changes to the "Earliest history" section, you would still be able to undo the single vandal edit.
Try again using the radio buttons in History, and you will find it easy to revert a whole series of edits. You can always create a sandbox of your own to experiment in, just click here: User:Noxia/Sandbox. Good luck! Franamax (talk) 17:26, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
PS Don't take this personally, but I've suggested to the two admins you asked for rollback that you might not be quite ready for it yet. Of course, the decision will be up to them. Thanks a lot for helping out with vandalism, we need all the eyeballs we can get! Franamax (talk) 17:34, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
OK, I get it now.
"...you can undo a single edit that's not at the top of the history list, but only if it's in a section of the article that no-one has changed since."
I understand that now. Thanks. I also have the radio buttons thing down (I think, still playing with it). I think when I was trying to revert the edits on that last one, I accidentally undid Smackbot's edit when I meant to undo the edit right after that one. I guess I got a little punchy with the mouse. OK, let me try some more and I'll post some others. Thanks again for your help. --Noxia (talk) 17:40, 4 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
I think you should try this more before getting rollback permission. But you're on your way there. Stifle (talk) 09:34, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Edits - take a look at these for me Franamax, please:

Yes, you did that right - although it looks like you used Twinkle to do it, so you still haven't undone a set by hand. That's OK, but I'd advise you to try everything by hand a few times before loading up on scripts, just so you can understand for yourwelf what's happening. For instance, do you know exactly what changes advisor.js was making and what the reasons are for those changes?
Also, you still haven't gone back and cleaned up that mistaken revert of SmackBot that you made ;) Franamax (talk) 18:22, 5 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Eizō Shimabukuro edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Eizō Shimabukuro requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion," which appears inside of the speedy deletion ({{db-...}}) tag (if no such tag exists, the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate). Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. ArbCom elections are now open! edit

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page.
