Survival Tips edit

Hi Nileena, I see that you had a user box saying that you wish to become an administrator one day. You may consider the following. The wikipedia community is a community of aspirants. So the competition is tough. If you want to become one you should consider these.

1. All the policies can be violated resorting to common sense. But remember that common sense is not common. So while using common sense, use the uncommon; the sense of big brothers.

2. In case you notice something against your common sense, as an aspirant, what you should do is to go on editing new articles. Never question the big brother. Aspirants should pretend not to have noticed anything.

3. Edit count is important. Go on editing. Best is one word during one edit. Many here consider editors with higher edit count superior.

4. Sock-puppets are Okay. But be careful that you are not voting against the big brothers. (If you had voted to delete S. Jithesh, no one would have bothered). Also take care that your language does not betray you.

5. Barn stars are not sufficient. Be specific while praising. Oh your edit here was fantastic, etc. It helps. After all who is here to help the African child?

Administrators' Noticeboard edit

Hi, Nileena. I had to revert an edit you made to the Administrators' Noticeboard. Your edit accidentally wiped out many comments from others. It seemed to return the article to a version of several days ago. I can only advise you to try adding the message again. S. Jithesh edit

Hi! We've no doubt that S. Jithesh exists. The question is whether he is notable enough to deserve an article on Wikipedia.

If you feel that the S. Jithesh article passes WP:V and WP:BIO, I will suggest that you start writing the article in your user space: User:Nileena joseph/S. Jithesh. When the article becomes good enough to pass WP:V and WP:BIO, it can be moved to article namespace.

While creating the article, ask yourself following questions: Is he associated with notable publication? Have his cartoons caused a major impact? Have his cartoons caused a political controversy? Has he won some award? etc. And more importantly, is there any way in which others can verify answers to above questions. In my opinion, being part of an exhibition or appearing on a TV show doesn't make a person notable enough.

You can request unprotection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection.

Image:News cutting exhi new.jpg proves that there was an exhibition of cartoons/caricatures by S. Jithesh. But it doesn't indicate that he is notable in some way. I can't comment on Image:Malayalam- jeevithath..1.jpg or Image:News paper cutting desa.jpg though, as I don't understand Malayalam. I think you can discuss it with User:Deepujoseph, who is a Keralite. utcursch | talk 12:47, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned fair use image (Image:VS VALLIATHAN PIC3.jpg) edit

Thanks for uploading Image:VS VALLIATHAN PIC3.jpg. I notice the 'image' page currently specifies that the image is unlicensed for use on Wikipedia and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, the image is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the image was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that images for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable under fair use (see our fair use policy).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. S. Jithesh edit

Hi! I'm not prejudiced. I'm not saying that S. Jithesh doesn't exist or is not famous. The issue is that the article fails WP:V.

Try to look at this issue from others' point of view. Suppose, there is a painter whose works has been displayed in four or five exhibitions. A news article has appeared in two or three newspapers about the exhibition with his photograph. His paintings have been published in a local magazine. Now suppose today a user writes an article about this person on Wikipedia. Should we accept the article? Is this person notable enough to deserve an article in an encyclopedia? There are hundreds of exhibitions organized all over the world everyday. There are thousands of artists, whose work is displayed at these exhibitions. Newspapers publish articles about these exhibitions.

The author of the article says that the painter has not received wide media coverage, because his paintings are controversial. How can we believe it? No! Wikipedia will be full of non-notable biographies, if we allow this. There has to be some evidence. See Wikipedia:Verifiability#Burden_of_evidence: "The burden of evidence lies with the editor who adds or restores material."

We're not being anti-S.Jithesh or anti-Nileena here. We value your contributions very much. Probably you've read my and others' comments at User talk:Srikeit. We have no doubt about you being a genuine user (and not a sockpuppet) and we agree that you've made good contributions to Malayalam-related articles. We just want the article to pass WP:V. Any article that is not verifiable is deleted. This is an official Wikipedia policy, and not our (my/Tintin's/Srikeit's/others') opinion.

If S. Jithesh is indeed notable, some evidence of him being notable should be provided. That's why I suggested that you start writing the article at User:Nileena joseph/S. Jithesh and keep adding the references as you find them. When the article passes WP:V, it can be moved to article space.

If you still feel that I am prejudiced, you can request unprotection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. utcursch | talk 11:59, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Google test fallibility edit

I've always held the view that search engines are not really benchmarks for notability when it comes to encyclopaedias. Because, a phenomenon or an entity, however underreported in the web or elsewhere does not become intrinsically uninteresting for an encyclopaedia. Over and above this, there's this language bias in a google test and this has been already acknowledged at Google_test#Google_bias. There's nothing that stops one from citing a reputed source like Malayala Manorama. Having said that, I feel that the entity becomes notable if it's unique or very different from other members of its class. This holds good if (when the entity is a living being) it has achieved a rare feat or is clearly distinguishable from the general population. -- Sundar \talk \contribs 06:15, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Image:News_cutting_exhi_new.jpg edit

Yes it is orphaned, per WP:FAIR. Please read again about uploading images under fair use. Read criterion #9:

Fair use images may be used only in the article namespace. Used outside article space, they are not covered under the fair use doctrine.

I've reverted back the image, unless you used it in the article namespace. — Indon (reply) — 15:59, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Nope. The rule for fair use images is very strict. Why don't use use external links to the image? — Indon (reply) — 16:09, 15 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

For an outcome to be achieved, we require you list the code letter which matches with the violations of policy, which is listed at the top of the requests for checkuser page. This has been implemented to reduce difficulties for checkusers, and is essential for your case to be processed. Also, a checkuser has requested you supply one or more diffs to justify the use of the checkuser procedure in the case. Recent contributions edit

Hello Nileena. I really do appreciate the pains you are taking to add Kerala journalism related articles to wikipedia. However please be careful that for legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must include on the external site the statement "I, (name), am the author of this article, (article name), and I irrevocably release its content under the terms of the GNU Free Documentation License, Version 1.2 and later, for use on Wikipedia and elsewhere."

You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here. You can also leave a message on my talk page.--thunderboltz(Deepu) 07:47, 19 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

s jithesh and stuff edit

Please take a look at WP:CITE . There is a way for you to use Malayali newspapers (in addition to mainstream papers) to assert notability.Bakaman Bakatalk 00:48, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Like I said earlier[3], I've no doubt that S. Jithesh exists. The question is whether he is notable enough to deserve an article on Wikipedia. In what way The Hindu links prove his notability? One report says that he addressed a gathering along with District Information Officer, Deputy District Medical Officer, Assistant Information Officer. The other says that he contributed to a booklet, along with many other cartoonists. Like I earlier suggested (and Bakasuprman has suggested above), you can start writing the article at User:Nileena joseph/S. Jithesh. I'm not convinced of his notability, but I'll help with formatting and copyediting, if required. When the article becomes good enough to pass WP:V and WP:BIO, it can be moved to article namespace. If you feel I'm being unreasonable or prejudiced, you can always request unprotection at Wikipedia:Requests for page protection. utcursch | talk 04:48, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply
I understand that we cannot rely on Google or English newspapers to establish notability or non-notability of a person. But WP:V and WP:BIO are fair policies. If I write an article on XYZ today, saying that XYZ is highly notable in some part of the world where English is not spoken, should others believe me blindly? No! The Hindu (and other) links mention Mannaraprayil_Cor-Episcopa and S. Jithesh, but they do not prove that the subjects are notable enough to deserve an article on Wikipedia. If these are indeed notable in Kerala, why do majority of the Keralite Wikipedians say otherwise? If enough established users say that the subject is notable, articles are not deleted. See for example, Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Billoo. Anyway, I've restored the deleted content to your subpage: User:Nileena joseph/S. Jithesh and User:Nileena joseph/Mannaraprayil Cor-Episcopa. I'll be happy to help with copyediting/formatting work. utcursch | talk 09:30, 28 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Commercial use of Image:Jithu cari.jpg edit

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Jithu cari.jpg, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Jithu cari.jpg is an image licensed as "for non-commercial use only" or "used with permission for use on Wikipedia only" which was either uploaded on or after 2005-05-19 or is not used in any articles (CSD I3).

If you created this media file and want to use it on Wikipedia, you may re-upload it (or amend the image description if it has not yet been deleted) and use the license {{GFDL-self}} to license it under the GFDL, or {{cc-by-sa-2.5}} to license it under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike license, or use {{PD-self}} to release it into the public domain.

If you did not create this media file but want to use it on Wikipedia, there are two ways to proceed. First, you may choose one of the fair use tags from this list if you believe one of those fair use rationales applies to this file. Second, you may want to contact the copyright holder and request that they make the media available under a free license.

If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. This bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion, it did not nominate Image:Jithu cari.jpg itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. If you have any questions about what to do next or why your image was nominated for speedy deletion please ask at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. Disputed fair use rationale for Image:VS VALLIATHAN new.jpg edit

Thanks for uploading Image:VS VALLIATHAN new.jpg. However, there is a concern that the rationale you have provided for using this image under "fair use" may be invalid. Please read the instructions at Wikipedia:Non-free content carefully, then go to the image description page and clarify why you think the image qualifies for fair use. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If it is determined that the image does not qualify under fair use, it will be deleted within a couple of days according to our criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thank you.BetacommandBot (talk) 09:27, 21 January 2008 (UTC)Reply

Malayalam literature edit

Hi, I am addressing this to you, because I saw your name constantly appearing in the talk page of this article. Quality-wise the article is disastrous; it is basically nothing more than a list of names. Literature is not exactly my field of interest, but its shameful to leave such an important article like that. On a sharp contrast, see the kind of work gone into Tamil literature. Let's spend some time and improve it. You must be knowing, if the article is of one's area of interest, writing for long becomes less tedious. Unreferenced BLPs edit

Hello Nileena joseph! Thank you for your contributions. I am a bot alerting you that 1 of the articles that you created is tagged as an Unreferenced Biography of a Living Person. Please note that all biographies of living persons must be sourced. If you were to add reliable, secondary sources to this article, it would greatly help us with the current 944 article backlog. Nomination of John Brittas for deletion edit

A discussion has begun about whether the article John Brittas, which you created or to which you contributed, should be deleted. While contributions are welcome, an article may be deleted if it is inconsistent with Wikipedia policies and guidelines for inclusion, explained in the deletion policy.

The article will be discussed at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/John Brittas until a consensus is reached, and you are welcome to contribute to the discussion.

You may edit the article during the discussion, including to address concerns raised in the discussion. However, do not remove the article-for-deletion template from the top of the article. (talk) 10:06, 23 September 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Pharis Aboobaker edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Pharis Aboobaker requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a person or group of people, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable, as well as our subject-specific notability guideline for biographies. You may also wish to consider using a Wizard to help you create articles – see the Article Wizard.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hang on}} to the top of the page that has been nominated for deletion (just below the existing speedy deletion, or "db", tag; if no such tag exists, then the page is no longer a speedy delete candidate and adding a hang-on tag is unnecessary), coupled with adding a note on the talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, you can contact one of these administrators to request that the administrator userfy the page or email a copy to you. (talk) 17:10, 24 October 2010 (UTC)Reply

Speedy deletion nomination of Venu Nair edit

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

A tag has been placed on Venu Nair requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section G12 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be a clear copyright infringement. For legal reasons, we cannot accept copyrighted text or images borrowed from other web sites or printed material, and as a consequence, your addition will most likely be deleted. You may use external websites as a source of information, but not as a source of sentences. This part is crucial: say it in your own words. Wikipedia takes copyright violations very seriously and persistent violators will be blocked from editing.

If the external website belongs to you, and you want to allow Wikipedia to use the text — which means allowing other people to modify it — then you must verify that externally by one of the processes explained at Wikipedia:Donating copyrighted materials. If you are not the owner of the external website but have permission from that owner, see Wikipedia:Requesting copyright permission. You might want to look at Wikipedia's policies and guidelines for more details, or ask a question here.

If you think that this notice was placed here in error, contest the deletion by clicking on the button labelled "Click here to contest this speedy deletion". Doing so will take you to the talk page where you will find a pre-formatted place for you to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. You can also visit the page's talk page directly to give your reasons, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the page meets the criterion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the page that would render it more in conformance with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. §everal⇒|Times 17:44, 11 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Disambiguation link notification edit

Hi, this message is to let you know about disambiguation links you've recently created. A link to a disambiguation page is almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. For more information, see the FAQ or drop a line at the DPL WikiProject.

Proposed deletion of Paris Viswanathan edit

The article Paris Viswanathan has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

No references. If you can find reliable sources, you can remove this tag and avert deletion.

While all contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, content or articles may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the article's talk page.

Please consider improving the article to address the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and articles for deletion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion. Stedrick (talk) 19:31, 30 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Proposed deletion of C. J. Kuttappan edit

The article C. J. Kuttappan has been proposed for deletion because, under Wikipedia policy, all newly created biographies of living persons must have at least one reference to a reliable source that directly supports material in the article.

If you created the article, please don't be offended. Instead, consider improving the article. For help on inserting references, see Referencing for beginners, or ask at the help desk. Once you have provided at least one reliable source, you may remove the {{prod blp}} tag. Please do not remove the tag unless the article is sourced. If you cannot provide such a source within ten days, the article may be deleted, but you can request that it be undeleted when you are ready to add one. reddogsix (talk) 03:47, 10 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. New deal for page patrollers edit

Hi Nileena joseph,

In order to better control the quality of new pages, keep out the spam, and welcome the genuine newbies, the current system we introduced in 2011 is being updated and improved. The documentation and tutorials have also been revised and given a facelift. Most importantly a new user group New Page Reviewer has been created.

Under the new rule, you may find that you are temporarily unable to mark new pages as reviewed. However, this is nothing to worry about - most current experienced patrollers are being accorded the the new right without the need to apply, and if you have significant previous experience of patrolling new pages, we strongly encourage you to apply for the new right as soon as possible - we need all the help we can get, and we are now providing a dynamic, supportive environment for your work.

Find out more about this exiting new user right now at New Page Reviewers and be sure to read the new tutorial before applying. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 04:29, 13 November 2016 (UTC)Reply
