Re Esperanza front page edit

Hi Natalya. Thanks for the note. I must say that (maybe because of my browser; Mozilla 1.7) a big green background covers all the page . Nothing is seen. I am not sure whether you have Mozilla or not but i see nothing except the green stuff. I'll wait to see if someone else is getting the same thing. -- Szvest 11:36, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Esperanza Front Page edit

Just as an FYI, I've done a temp fix on the Esperanza page until the readability problem can be fixed. The version I made incorporates all of the new information, but doesn't look as nice. I hate to do this, but I think it's more important that the page be readable to anyone who comes along. I hope we can fix the problem quickly! -- Merope Talk 22:08, 18 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Stress edit

Well, take it easy and all the best. I should probably be off too, I have to prepare a poster for a conference and one of my supervisor's collaborators is coming here for a three weeks, so I should do work. Let's just say my vow to take a wikibreak isn't holding up. Someone should desysop me and block me so that I can't edit and can't unblock myself. Blnguyen | BLabberiNg 01:23, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Aye, I know exactly how that feels, as I'm in the same situation you are. There's too many things to do, and not enough time to do them; sometimes Wiki time has to take the side seat to real life. However, be certain that the whirlwind will pass, and soon you'll have time to relax again, and enjoy the nicer things in life. Titoxd(?!?) 01:25, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Article Fix Request edit

Hi Natalya,

I found a strange problem with Atlas (anatomy) article. Clicking on this link would take you to the page which says Wikipedia does not have an article with this exact name. But if you click on the history you get the entire article in the most recent version. Does deletion of an article not show up in the edit history? The article which comes up in the most recent version looks fine to me and in any case the subject of the article is notable. I am not sure whether it has been deleted. There is no discussion related to its deletion on the talk page. Could you please look into it and being an administrator undo the deletion.

BTW, got your name from the Esparanza newsletter on my talk page.Gaurav1146 06:21, 20 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

Its working fine today. But yesterday, there was some problem. Thanks Gaurav1146 11:31, 21 September 2006 (UTC)Reply

September Esperanza Newsletter edit

Program Feature: Barnstar Brigade
Here in Wikipedia there are hundreds of wikipedians whose work and efforts go unappreciated. One occasionally comes across editors who have thousands of good edits, but because they may not get around as much as others, their contributions and hard work often go unnoticed. As Esperanzians we can help to make people feel appreciated, be it by some kind words or the awarding of a Barnstar. This is where the Barnstar Brigade comes in. The object of this program is to seek out the people which deserve a Barnstar, and help them feel appreciated. With your help, we can recognize more dedicated editors!
What's New?
September elections are upon us! Anyone wishing to be a part of the Advisory Council may list themselves as a candidate from 18 September until 24 September, with the voting taking place from 25 September to 30 September. Those who wish to help with the election staff should also list themselves!
Appreciation Week, a program currently in development, now has its own subpage! Share your good ideas on how to make it awesome there!
The Esperanza front page has been redesigned! Many thanks to all who worked hard on it.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  1. The proposals page has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  2. Since the program in development Appretiaion week is getting lots of good ideas, it now has its own subpage.
  3. The September 2006 Council elections will open for nominations on 18 September 2006. The voting will run from 25 September 2006 until 30 September 2006. If you wish to be a candidate or a member of the elections staff, please list yourself!
  4. The new Esperanza front page design has but put up - many thanks to all who worked on it!
  5. TangoTango has written a script for a bot that will list new members of Esperanza, which will help those who welcome new Esperanzains greatly!

Hi Natalya, I'm back on Wikipedia, which is something I really didn't expect to be able to do. If you really want to know all that happened, it's all explained here. I know that on the current revision of my userpage, it says that I may be slow to respond because it physically hurts to type. So, I was thinking about nominating to WP:RFA, and actually Hildanknight has also suggested that. However I don't know any requirement (exact requirement) to become an admin. I have been here for 4 months now, with about 2200 edits, with a WikiProject that I have created and one featured portal :P. In case of that, umm, would you, ummm, teach me and tell me the real standards and stuff? I have put my name to WP:ER but no one has replied, yet. Okay, hopefully you'll respond to this poorly written request :P. Cheers -- Imoeng 13:29, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Hi Natalya, this is what I told Fredil:

Dear Fredil, I remember when I was thirteen, and how awkward and self-conscious I felt. You may not know why you were born or what the meaning of your existence is. For that matter, I don't know what the meaning of my existence is. I may not be the best person to give you advice, considering what I tried to do to myself, but I will say this: if you try to help other people and try to make them happy, they will remember your kindness and return it back to you. Perhaps that in itself is the meaning of life.

I just thought I would share it with you. I hope it helps. --Kyoko 16:59, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

RE: Highway's RfA edit

Sure thing, thanks for dropping me a line! In my estimation of your nomination, I simply feel that some aspects (the AN/I, AIV thing, for example) do not accurately describe HighwayCello. That is, when I see that someone isn't a stranger to somewhere, I'll assume that he/she is relatively active, or at least visits once in a while. With that, your nomination is a testament to your trust, respect, and friendship with HighwayCello, and I think it's great that you took the time to write it (must have taken a while)! My opposition has little, if anything, to do with your nomination; I just wanted to mention some of the points that, when I read the nomination, were not entirely reflective of HighwayCello. hoopydinkConas tá tú? 23:39, 2 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I'm sorry to see my request for Highway to confirm his agreement to the gentleman's agreement has turned out the way it has, derailing your nomination in such a way. I'm not sure if he understood what I initially meant or not, but it seems to have raked up a few problems that I hoped had dissipated away in the last few months. As I said before, and just for the point of pre-empting anything, I'm not trying undermine any AC members, and especially in Highway's case, we could always do with more DYK updaters - especially when it gets tiring spending 80min per day to do two DYK shifts. Yes, both. It's an "open coaching forum". That way, everyone gets the benefit of everyone else's coaching. And students can also shift their role to coaches for those questions they know the answers to. And thanks for your support.   The Transhumanist   16:50, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

By the way, I love your disco ball of knowledge.   The Transhumanist   18:43, 3 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

I've run into a technical procedural problem. Someone has nominated the page for deletion, which is fine, but in addition to this, went around and removed links leading to the page, including its notice on the Community Bulletin Board, thereby denying access to the deletion discussion of the very people the page was designed for. Is this appropriate? I don't know what the policies are concerning this technical and politically sensitive issue. Wouldn't removing such links be considered manipulation of the deletion discussion process? Is there a policy that covers this? Any insight you could provide would be most appreciated. The person cited as the reason for removing the links "it is not an official page", but officiality has never been an issue before with any of the highly integral pages I've created or worked on before (like the Community Bulletin Board, for instance). It borders on the requirement for preapproval, for which I do not believe applies to project nor forum pages. I checked the histories of the help page, the newcomer help page, and the reference desk, and none of them went through any kind of procedure for approval or for obtaining "official status". What can I do about this? Sincerely,   The Transhumanist   02:53, 4 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Well, the Admin school died. But the concept lives on... I've received 2 coaching assignments from the Ezperanza coaching program. So I've changed my approach entirely and have created the Virtual classroom. Everyone is invited to participate as students, as coaches, or both. The first topic of discussion is Wikipedia's user interfaces, both external and internal - each participant is asked to describe the programs and tools they use so that everyone can compare what they use with everyone else. I'm in the process of inviting some of the most prolific and talented editors of Wikipedia to share their secrets. So far, Interiot, Rich Farmbrough, and CBDunkerson have dropped in to contribute. Come check it out. I'd be interested in learning what tools you use.  The Transhumanist   14:23, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Admin Coaching, now being coordinated by HighwayCello, is a program for people who want help learning some of the more subtle aspects of Wikipedia policy and culture. People are matched with experienced users who are willing to offer coaching. The program is designed for people who have figured out the basics of editing articles; they're not newcomers any more, but they might want some help in learning new roles. In this way, Esperanza would help keep hope alive for Wikipedia because we would always be grooming the next generation of admins.

What's New?
The Tutorial Drive is a new Esperanza program! In an effort to make complicated processes on Wikipedia easier for everyone, Esperanza working to create and compile a list of tutorials about processes here on Wikipedia. Consider writing one!
A discussion on how Esperanza relates to the encyclopedia has been started; please add your thoughts.
Many thanks to MiszaBot, courtesy of Misza13, for delivering the newsletter.
  • The list of proposed programs has been updated, with some proposals being archived.
  • There is now a new program: the Tutorial Drive! Consider writing a tutorial on something you are good at doing on Wikipedia.
  • The suggestion of adding a cohesive look to all the Esperanza pages is being considered; join the discussion if you are interested!
  • In order to make a useful interlanguage welcome template, those involved in translation projects will be asked what English Wikipedia policies are most important and confusing to editors coming from other language Wikipedias.
  • A discussion of Esperanza's role in Wikipedia is being held, with all thoughts of all Esperanzians wanted!
  • Shreshth91 informed everyone that he will be leaving the Esperanza council as life is rather busy; his spot will be filled by the runner up from the last election, HighwayCello.

Starting from scratch edit

Well that didn't go over so well (Admin school).   But I've received 2 coaching assignments from the Esperanza Admin coaching program! But rather than focus on Adminship, or on a strict coaching/student relationship, I've taken an entirely different approach. I've set up a Virtual classroom in which anyone can participate. We're trying something fun right now: we're comparing user interfaces (the programs, extensions, scripts, and settings) that we use to make use of Wikipedia. CBDunkerson has stopped by and shared his expertise as well. I was wondering if you would like to drop by and let us know your methods. It would be interesting to compare. Mine are there too. Hope to see ya there.  The Transhumanist   01:40, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

a useful tutorial... :-) edit

Hiya,

I was looking at your user page (I think the section was "future projects"), and noticed that perhaps you might be interested in this: Wikipedia:How to fix bunched up edit links.

I hope to be more active in Esperanza in the future, perhaps after Christmas. We'll see.

Cheers!--Ling.Nut 15:59, 7 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Confused edit

Hi, Natalya! I have a seriously weird problem right now. See, the Esperanza membership requirements state that I have to have at least 150 edits before I can join it, and, with your help (thanks!), I managed to put my name in the 'want to join Esperanza'(something like that) list. Directly after I put my name on the list, I received a message saying that I am a member of Esperanza! My edits have not even reached the 150 limit, but I am already accepted as a member. Well, seriously, I am not complaining, but this has surprised me. Is this even supposed to happen? If my explanation proved to be too confusing to understand, please tell me. I hope you can help me with this, I don't want to bother you with the matter, but I don't know what else to do. Thanks! Zachary crimsonwolf 14:28, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Thanks again! But I still have another question...this is stupid, really, but am I a member of Esperanza? Zachary crimsonwolf 13:21, 9 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

Oh, wow! Can't wait for it! Thanks a million, Natalya!!! Zachary crimsonwolf 12:38, 10 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

please help User:Editor at Large edit

Hi Natalya, you were the first person I could think of for asking this favor. I have been granted rather unusual permission to go online so soon after admission due to my concern about someone here, and yes, there is a staff member who is in the room watching what I type. I am very concerned about User:Editor at Large because of her declining mood (especially if you look at her userpage and recent contributions), so if you could please send her a message, add her to the Alerts page, etc. I expect to be in the hospital for at least the next few days if not longer while they transition me to new medication. Thank you, and I hope we all recover. --Kyoko 22:10, 8 November 2006 (UTC)Reply

your comments edit

Natalya:

Your comments re: "Esperanza ... under fire?" were, as usual, insightful, appropriate, intelligent, and well expressed. I wanted to take a moment to express my admiration for you as not just an Esperanzian but also as a Wikipedian and, from what I know of you, a person.

Peace.
