basics edit

Found this on your user page:

I'm very very new, and I don't know how to use Wikipedia's tables or fancy biography pages! I joined because I was annoyed at the extreme unhelpfulness of a couple of articles, with no tags to indicate otherwise, and I wanted to change that.
Uhh. Help? =D

The guideline discussing use of a table is at WP:TABLE; the gory details of table wikimarkup is at Help:Table. If questions or doubts arise, be sure to ask at the page's talk (click on its "discussion" tab). I monitor the latter article.

I'm not sure what you mean by how to use fancy biography pages. The best way to write one is

  • find one which is well done
  • click "edit this page" (don't worry, until "save page" is pressed, nothing is written) to see the wikimarkup source
  • copy and paste the good bits to your new or soon-to-be-improved article
  • change them to match the new article
  • press "show preview" to see how you did
  • press "save page" once you're satisfied

At first, it will seem quite challenging, but I don't remember that lasting more than a week or so. Good luck. I'll keep my eye on this page in case you have any general questions. —EncMstr 17:51, 7 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Help! edit

Does anyone know how to put the required/requested comments on the Wikiproject templates, for articles when they are given ratings? Also, is there a guideline or help page anywhere for editing images? --Mistsrider (talk) 21:44, 8 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

The easiest is to copy it from an existing project, such as {{WikiProject Oregon}} which has the categorization parameters. Is that what you mean?
What kind of image editing do you mean? —EncMstr 21:50, 8 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Clarification Response: What I mean is, how can leave comments inside the box, like at the talk:Roald Dahl page? As for image editing, I mean how does one edit the informational content relating to the picture? Copyright, translations of captions, etc. For example, in this featured picture of the London Eye, the "edit this page" tab only displays this text:
{{FeaturedPicture|London Eye Twilight April 2006}}
{{PL showcase picture}}
{{picture of the day|August 20, 2007}} --Mistsrider (talk) 08:01, 9 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
Which box on Talk:Roald Dahl? You mean one of those at the top of the page? Those are not meant for typing inside. Those particular boxes are created by including a "template" (as it's called in wikiworld, but act like macros or string variables). Wherever a {{template name}} appears and get substituted with the contents of template:template name. —EncMstr 01:30, 11 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Ways to promote the project
If you're interested in promoting the project, why not visit the Outreach department for more ideas?

There are many ways to promote the project. One of them is to add the project's ad to your userpage. To do this, simply add the code {{Template:Wikipedia ads|ad=212}} to your talk or user page. Another thing you can do is to invite other users to join the project. To find prospective members search the history pages of Children's literature-related articles and invite people who seem to be deoing good things for these articles. The code for the invitation template is {{subst:Wikipedia:WikiProject Children's literature/Invite}}.

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference edit

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being 'minor'. The only thing that's changed is that you will no longer have them marked as minor by default.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. If you are familiar with the contents of WP:MINOR, and believe that it is still beneficial to the encyclopedia to have all your edits marked as such by default, then this discussion will give you the details you need to continue with this functionality indefinitely. If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 21:13, 14 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

A Question For You edit

Seeing that you are a member of the WikiProject Blades, I was wondering if you had any suggestions on reliable, inexpensive, EDC (Every Day Carry) knives. Your respnse will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.99.129.213 (talk) 21:42, 29 September 2015 (UTC)Reply
