Moszkowski Polonaise

Hello, Miss Marple. I'm getting more and more enquiries about this as time goes on, so the word is spreading. I had to wait 30 years between discovering the music on LP in the mid 70s, and finally tracking down the score last year. Luckily you don't have to wait that long.

It's available from Musica Obscura Editions, 17 Joey Rd, Merrimack, New Hampshire 03054-4549, USA. Last year they didn't have a website, and I had to request the score by email. But it arrived very quickly.

Now there's a website [1] you can go to and browse their entire catalogue, which is full of fabulous stuff.

I'd love to hear your opinion when you finally sit down to play it. If only there was a CD recording of it so you could hear how it's "supposed" to sound like. Cheers JackofOz 02:33, 29 January 2006 (UTC)

Op. vs. Opp.

Hi. I noticed you changed "Opp." to "Op." on Rachmaninoff's page (Opp. 23 and 32). Is this a style thing in Wikipedia? "Opp." is the correct way of referring to plural opus numbers. JackofOz 04:05, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

Hi. This is from our article abbreviation:

• Plurals are often formed by doubling up the last letter of the abbreviation. Most of these deal with writing and publishing: MS=manuscript, MSS=manuscripts; l=line, ll=lines; p=page, pp=pages; s=section, ss=sections). This form, derived from Latin is used in Europe in many places: dd=didots. "The following (lines or pages)" is denoted by ff. One example that does not concern printing is hh=hands.

Admittedly, this doesn't mention "Opp", but I can assure you from very many years of deep involvement in music reference works that this is the standard way of pluralising "op.".

Here are 2 extracts from the article "opus" in Slonimsky's Webster's New World Dictionary of Music":

• opus (Lat., work; plural, opera; abbrev. op., opp.).
• Sometimes competing publishers would have their own sets of opus numbers for the same composer, thus creating several opp. 1, opp. 2, etc.

Martha Argerich

I really don't know much about her at all (just got the album whose image I uploaded yesterday and immediately fell in love with it). I looked a few internet sites and added what I thought was missing. I would like to add more but I really don't know anything about her other than what I read on other websites. edit summaries

Hi there. I noticed you are not an admin, and thought that's too bad. I think you'd be a great admin... if you improved your edit summaries :-))) If you check out requests for adminship, you'll see that they take care of percentage of edits that have edit summaries. And, your situation at the moment is: "Edit summary usage for Missmarple: 36% for major edits and 85% for minor edits. Based on the last 150 major and 150 minor edits in the article namespace." This would pretty much berry your request for adminship. Please, improve this percentage... not that hard realy ;-) And, when you get over 90%/90%, I just might nominate you for adminship (if I don't forget) ;-) --Dijxtra 21:43, 25 February 2006 (UTC)

Now you can turn off "Mark all edits minor by default" in your preferences so you produce only plain (as in "not minor") edits for some time to raise your percentage of edit summaries ;-)

Hi, this is not good :-) If you want to add a article to a stub category, you add it's tag, not category :-) This is how it's suposed to work: [2]. And, stub categories are not considered to be proper categorisation because once the article developes, the stub tag will be removed, so you have to put the article in apropriate category anyway: [3]. Hi Missmarple, I wrote to you a while ago about national categories for classical pianists. Thanks for the reply - I'm not taking any further action on this issue for the time being. I wonder if you could help me with Herman - I can't read Slovenian and I wonder what the Slovenian article says about him translating the Koran/Qur'an - the English article on Herman seems to have got rather confused about his English friend Robert of Ketton and I'm trying to sort out their respective contributions to Arabic-Latin translation. --Alan 19:47, 9 June 2006 (UTC)

Thank you for your reply. I found your translation most helpful, as it was clearer than the corresponding section in the English article on Herman. I think there is still some work to do revising the section on the Qur'an, as there is some confusion about his friend Robert - there seem to have been two relevant Roberts - one from Ketton (a little village nowhere near Chester) and one from Chester - they each have Wikipedia entries. To complicate matters Robert of Ketton was sometimes called Robertus Retenensis. I know so little about Robert of Chester that I don't know whether he could be an alias for another Robert - so I am still a bit confused but hope to get to the bottom of it. --Alan 05:02, 10 June 2006 (UTC)

Actually, it's a little complicated. Pogorelić won a different "Montreal International Music Competition" (no idea whether it was "Music" or "Musical" then) in 1980. I have no idea what happened to that competition -- the current "Montreal International Musical Competition" is a different competition and was only started in 2002. Well, here's my first question. It's about copyright rules. I created a article about a computergame and now the images are removed. I kinda saw that one coming, but I have seen other computergame articles with pictures of the cover etc. How can I play by the rules while uploading an image??

Music comp and Wikify tag.

Sorry I messed that up a little. I automatically detagged it because we get alot of lists tagged for wikification by people who think we work on formatting of lists etc. as a result if a list looks good and is linked and has a lead that's it I detag it and leave it as wikified.
