Watchtower Library 2008 (Update)

No, it's not yet being shipped out. Apparently some new enhancements were recently added. Also, as a reminder it's only available to dedicated, baptized Witnesses of Jehovah. Glenn L (talk) 03:12, 31 January 2009 (UTC)Reply

Again, because of the enhancements I mentioned 11 1/2 days ago, nobody - at least that I know - has the '08 CD yet. I'm using the '07 CD with a boost from the online TRU (Theocratic Research Utilities) which updated its database in late December. The good news is that I have access to the entire '09 Theocratic School schedule, and both the Congregation Bible Study schedule and full daily text through late February even without the '08 CD. You should be ordering the Wtl Lib CD through your local congregation, preferably in September or October when the km makes its annual announcements. In the US, last September's km announced ordering the '09 Calendar, Examining the Scriptures Daily (aka Daily Text) and Yearbook; October's, the '08 Watchtower & Awake! bound volumes and Watchtower Library on CD. Deletion of JW talk archives

Hi,

I went through and declined all of your speedy deletion requests. Talk page archives are not normally deleted, especially when the content has been recently removed from the talk pages themselves. CSD-G7 does not apply, because you are not the sole author of that content. Please provide a detailed explanation of what you were trying to do, and please do not engage in any other such deletion efforts until you have provided such an explanation. Thanks, Jclemens (talk) 07:10, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Did you realize that if I'd deleted those archives, the content would be gone from both the talk pages and the archives? Feel free to design new archive formats, but please move content to the new format or leave it intact until that's done--deleting the pages before the new archives format in place effectively deletes those discussions. They can be recovered, but still--it's not a smooth way to do things. Cheers, Jclemens (talk) 07:24, 20 February 2009 (UTC)Reply
I'm not sure how the best way to do that would be. Look at "what links here" for that file, and there are a number of templates which use it. Maybe transcluding one of them onto those pages would help? Jclemens (talk) 05:14, 22 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

Bible Teach and other publications

You mentioned at Talk:What Does the Bible Really Teach? that you could not obtain the Bible Teach book in either English or German where you live. If that's still a problem, you can download the text at [1] and the audio at [2] - in both languages. Several other publications are also available in each language at the sites. When you enter each site just select the language first, then the publication Glenn L (talk) 01:12, 19 March 2009 (UTC)Reply

Well, you can still download the audio from jw.org but the watchtower.org site currently does NOT has the text for the Bible Teach book. Glenn L (talk) 13:52, 3 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

I'm novice in wikipedia

Hello, I'm novice in wikipedia. I haven't read any policies, but tried to add my links correctly to same themes. It is not spam, just an interesting links to Georgian web-site, where electronic editions, calligraphy works, manuscript book, orthodox icons and other intellectual works are submitted. Just think, in the "Calligraphy" article of wikipedia nothing told about georgian calligraphy. Also, nothing about manuscript books or modern Georgian iconography. After my links I plan to add some articles to wikipedia, because I found very poor info in some themes. Articles about Elena Akhvlediani, David Kakabadze, Niko Pirosmani etc. can become rich. I finished to add links and do not plan to add more, as I'm not a spammer. I thought every my link will be interesting for readers. If we follow any external link from wikipedia, we'll find sales pages at corresponding sites, but it is not a reason to delete this links from wikipedia and to call their authors - spammers. If you know the more correct way how to add my links to wikipedia, please advise me. I'm be glad to follow your instructions and see my links to many interesting Georgian web-sites at wikipedia. After I'll try to add some useful articles. Georgiani (talk) 08:56, 2 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

WikiProject Germany Invitation

Hello, Mikhailov,

I thank you for the invitation for the German-speaking group, but I don't speak German. Additionally I live in America, having never left the country. However, as you may probably have noticed, I'm a huge fan of the game show, Wheel of Fortune. I'm into foriegn adaptions of the show, including the German version. I've learned just a handful of German terms and actually use them for fun when I watch my version Wheel of Fortune (the American version).

I also do admire the German Wheel set. It was very rainbowish, and the musics and sound effects were wonderful, even the old chime used to indicate a letter that wasn't in the puzzle.

My last name (Gename) is German (spelled Gnehm in Germany). Many pronounce it juh-naim instead of gah-naim because of English standards.

Some of the wheels I have recreated are on this site, including New Zealand, United Kingdom, and Denmark. You can find all my Wheel of Fortune illustrations at http://germanname.deviantart.com

Thank you for your time to read this message and consideration for the German-speaking group, but I do apologize that I only know so many German terms.

My RfA

Thank you for participating in my "RecFA", which passed with a final tally of 153/39/22. There were issues raised regarding my adminship that I intend to cogitate upon, but I am grateful for the very many supportive comments I received and for the efforts of certain editors (Ceoil, Noroton and Lar especially) in responding to some issues. I wish to note how humbled I was when I read Buster7's support comment, although a fair majority gave me great pleasure. I would also note those whose opposes or neutral were based in process concerns and who otherwise commented kindly in regard to my record.
I recognise that the process itself was unusual, and the format was generally considered questionable - and I accept that I was mistaken in my perception of how it would be received - but I am particularly grateful for those whose opposes and neutrals were based in perceptions of how I was not performing to the standards expected of an administrator. As much as the support I received, those comments are hopefully going to allow me to be a better contributor to the project. Thank you. Very much. LessHeard vanU (talk) 18:13, 24 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

The Watchtower

Why have you moved The Watchtower away from its most common name without discussion??--Jeffro77 (talk) 13:34, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

No, he was right to give the article the same title as the magazine. The Watchtower is the name of the Society, the Watchtower Society, so its confusing to use that same name for the magazine. The magazine actually has more than two words in the name. The magazine name is The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Soc8675309 (talkcontribs) 15:30, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
Actually, Jeffro is correct concerning the redirect. The name The Watchtower does refer to the magazine, not to the Society. Again, while The Watchtower Announcing Jehovah's Kingdom is its official title, the magazine itself (over 99% of the time) and the public in general use the common name The Watchtower. As for "the name of the Society", the short terms the Society and the public use are Watchtower or Watch Tower without the prefix "The" attached. A phrase commonly used by the public when they see Witnesses at their door is: "Are you Watchtower (sometimes 'the Watchtower') people? We're not interested." The official abbreviations used are WTS for Watch Tower / Watchtower Society and WTB&TS for both Watch Tower Bible and Tract Society of Pennsylvania and Watchtower Bible and Tract Society of New York, Inc. Note that "WT" is used in the abbreviation when referring to either "Watch Tower" or "Watchtower". Glenn L (talk) 16:37, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Article Alexander Thomson nominated for deletion

If you're familiar with the range of Wikipedia articles about Jehovah's Witnesses, you've likely come across the name Alexander Thomson a few times. He wasn't a Witness, but he (very) occasionally had favorable things to write about Watch Tower publications. By no means was he a shill.

Someone (see diff) has moved to delete the article about Thomson, claiming that he is not notable (is not worthy of even a brief encyclopedic article). That seems odd to me, because Thomson is listed among only twelve persons having "played a significant role in the work of the Concordant Publishing Concern", publishers of the Concordant Literal Version of the Bible. He edited and wrote much Bible commentary under his own bylines, some of which is still in print. He contributed and edited articles in Unsearchable Riches[4] (now in its 100th year). Primarily because of having had his scholarship so substantially influence a notable Bible, Thomson is himself notable.

I have no sentimental attachment to Thomson, but I believe he is notable enough to keep from deletion. Feel free to add references to improve the article, or chime at the article's Talk regarding whether or not you'd prefer Wikipedia delete its article about this Alexander Thomson.--AuthorityTam (talk) 17:22, 10 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

I am a person who recreates redirected article that people (especially one's who know/know alot about the page subject) just delete and not edit them. I've even asked people why they do that!, so yeah, I'll accept those invites, I love european music (They know how to make FANTASTIC music, unlike alot of American bands. Heck, I'm even European and I am pretty good at singing and doing some other musical things. I am also in a band, we don't have a fully decided name, but I think were gonna be called Pectoralz). I'm certainly no expert, but on the Greeks (finance) page shouldn't the last term in the theta formula for puts be (-d1) NOT (-d2)?

Hi Mikhailov. Does this also apply if the user actually is member of the Corporate Communications of ETH Zurich? This user thought to create transparency by choosing that user name. Like that other users could check the neutral point of view in his contributions better (he has assured that he will always try to be neutral). On the other hand, facts (for which no reference is required or simply not used) added are probably more credible because this users knows the ETH very well. --Leyo 06:27, 16 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

My name was just changed to Bobby Taylor from The BT Company, as you probably guessed, I am new on here and I am still learning. Can you please let me know why the name is unacceptable, and why did they change it for me and didn't tell me that. I wanted it changed to Duncan Daniels (that is the biography I am working on) but then I was told that it is not advisable to use personal names (Duncan Daniels is a professional name though). I decided to use Bobby Taylor instead, but if Bobby Taylor is not acceptable, then I would like it to be Duncan Daniels please.

Also I need need to know how I can move the bio I've been working on to the appropriate place to make it "live".

cinemalumiere

Hi, I put in a request to change my user name a few days ago (To 'cinemalu' --I hope that is different enough I don't really care what the username is..), but nothing has changed yet. Also, I must object to my being branded as so because the two links I put on in fact contain more information about the movies than the imdb links do, but for some reason imdb is allowed? I understand the conflict of interest argument but understand that 1st, it is NOT my company I am just a webmaster, and 2nd, I genuinely believe that the information about the movies in question would be helpful to anyone interested.

Anyway, I made the request for name change so it should be happening fairly soon I hope, and I won't add those links again, unless after reviewing the content of them you decide they are useful enough.

thanks, Cinemalumiere (talk) 03:44, 22 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Vandalism of pages

Hello Mikhailov,

I received a message from you implying that I was "vandalising" pages. However, this is not the case. I have huge respect for wikipedia and only edit pages if I see a grammatical error, or lack of information. Please do not block me from using wikipedia as I am simply contributing to its overall mission to supply high-quality user-created/edited content.

re: 76.102.13.102 Mars Hill Bible School

Mikhailov,

I did not vandalize to be malicious but the section I deleted is both messy and factually incorrect. I was trying to remove the vandalism.

Will you read my reasoning? From http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mars_Hill_Bible_School I deleted: "Dave Crittenden[1](1995) Drafted 27th round by the Cincinnati Reds in 1997. First player ever to play Division I football as a place kicker for The University of Alabama- Alabama Crimson Tide football from Mars Hill. Crittenden did not win the lottery in 1998 a rumor was spread among his friends as a joke and apparently never was laid to rest as a joke that it never happened. Crittenden requests the person(s) who entered the information about the lottery to understand that it was a joke that was spread and went out of his hands and if any further more request be made please feel free to contact Crittenden."

From the Notable Alumni section. This section was written by the person in question himself.

1.Picture linked as evidence of draft by the Reds http://alt.coxnewsweb.com/cnishared/tools/shared/mediahub/04/66/38/slide_38664_REDS_UNIFORMS_BASEBALL_OHA.jpg is not from 1997 (from 2006) and is not 'Dave Crittenden' it is Chris Denorfia http://www.red-hot-mama.com/2006/12/01/

2. I don't think Wikipedia is the place to clear up past personal rumors.

I suggest that the 'Dave Crittenden' section be removed entirely. Or leave inaccurate, messy sections in there.

Inappropriate Username

With regard to my username and Wiki's username policy - I think you may be mistaken.

It is certainly not 'disruptive' 'offensive' or 'promotional'. Neither is it 'misleading' - I have not used "administrator", "bureaucrat", "steward", "checkuser", "oversight", or similar terms like "admin", "sysop" or "moderator". An 'advocate' is 'One called in, or liable to be called upon, to defend or speak for. One whose profession it is to plead the cause of any one in a court of justice' [Oxford English Dictionary]. It is in reference to my profession. There is no reason to believe it is misleading as it exhibits no other 'power' than to talk - and I believe everyone has that... —Preceding unsigned comment added by Bristol Advocate (talkcontribs) 08:42, 4 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

User:Allah is 1

Hi Mikhailov, I see you left a warning on User:Allah is 1's talk page saying that their username doesn't meet our username policy. However, you didn't specify a reason why you think the username is inappropriate. Offensive? Promotional? Misleading? I think it would be better to point out what the problem is rather than just redirect a new user to a pretty lengthy policy page that can be hard to understand the first time around. By the way, which template are you using? Is that one of the standard templates, or is it your own wording? Regards, Jafeluv (talk) 10:26, 28 August 2009 (UTC)Reply

Warning style

Can I ask why you're putting user warnings at the top of talk pages, in a little box? I haven't seen this style of warning before, and it seems slightly unhelpful for obscuring the chronology of warnings. If you post warnings at the bottom of the talk page (like any other talk page comment), other editors can see what's come before and after it. --McGeddon (talk) 10:15, 17 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

He used the same user warning on my talk page. I can't seem to guess why. However, he did not put any logical reason to put templates. I have not vandalized Wikipedia. Even if I answer questions on his talk page, this is not vandalism. That is absolutely normal on Wikipedia. That's why I put a warning template (using TW) on the bottom of this talk page.--BoeingRuleOfThe9th-700 (talk) 08:00, 18 September 2009 (UTC)Reply

Concerning: Adrenaline (Connecticut band) page

I believe this page should not be deleted. Although it may be seen as a promotional advertisement, it is more than meets the eye. Musicians and singers on wikipedia have an overview or a summary of who they are, and then important events in their life and that's what it shows for Adrenaline. Additionally, they are an upcoming band so they have limited information right now. The sentences I put up are facts and not just a promotional gig. Question re. Username Policy

Mikhailov: I got your message re. my username and have since read the Username policy. I'm not quite sure about some parts of the policy - for instance, the policy states that you can't have company names as part of the username (WP:ORGNAME), and then down at the very bottom in the section on account sharing (WP:NOSHARE), it says that the username "User:Megawatt Inc., (John)" would be okay - which obviously has a company name in it. So is the name of the company alone what is not permitted, and if I add my own name like in the "John" example, that will be okay? I will definitely change my username if it's against policy - but I'm not sure what to change it to. Thanks! HealthywaterCDC (talk) 14:10, 30 November 2009 (UTC)Reply
