New name? edit

Hey Mike, hope all is well :) I'm not sure if you have seen this but The Bad Girls Club (season 7) is now changed to Bad Girls Club: New Orleans (season 7). I'm not sure why the user changed/moved the article to that name. The show is called "Bad Girls Club" not "Bad Girls Club: New Orleans" right? Well I'm done talking to the kid, I left warnings (not equivalent) but I just wanted to see what are your thoughts? Its always nice to hear two sides. Best, Jonayo! I think it should be consistent with the other season articles (without the city). —Mike Allen 22:03, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I agree. Its just confusing to the uninformed reader, they are going to ask "where's season 6 of BGC: New Orleans?". I bring this up on the talk page soon. Best, Jonayo! Selena 4 ever 22:07, 1 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

21 Jump Street edit

Just saw the trailer for this, you have to like the page to see it, its on the wall. Wasn't interested before but seems pretty funny, thought you may like it. http://www.facebook.com/21JumpStreetMovie?sk=wall

WTF, I haven't heard of this movie either. Thanks for sharing, a movie I will definitely check out. —Mike Allen 21:23, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
RustedAutoparts brought the article to my attention. Since it was based off a show about cops who go undercover at a school I thought it was going to be some preachy, afterschool special type thing but I was actually laughing at some of the stuff in that trailer, so its a pleasant surprise Darkwarriorblake (talk) 21:26, 2 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well, as a comedy it looks entertaining, but being based off a TV series, it doesn't look quite faithful. Rusted AutoParts (talk) 00:58 3 November 2011 (UTC)
Also this one looks interesting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ecLYhvu_WQY&feature=player_embedded (NSFW)

It looks like a teen Hangover, and considering it's by Todd Phillips I expect them to find their friend was in the attic all along. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:07, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I've never seen The Hangover, but thanks for ruining the movie. —Mike Allen 01:19, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Aww you're kidding right? :( That's not the actual ending of The Hangover so you're ok. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:23, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
LOL. Yes I'm joking. But I haven't seen Part II yet. Is it just as good? —Mike Allen 01:27, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I only watched it last week, the reviews are true, it is exactly the same film. It's enjoyable but I don't know if I'd call it a comedy, its more of an adventure film with comedy elements since the mystery is much bigger than anything funny. There is one part though, and you will know it when you see it, that absolutely killed me. But it is a complete carbon copy of the original, like events happen in the same way and play out teh same way right up to and including the ending. Jeong seems to be playing Epps role. But it isn't a bad film, if you liked the first you will like this, but prepare to roll your eyes at how lazy Todd Phillips is. I was also kind of annoyed that there is no explanation for why Stu is marrying the random asian woman and not Heather Graham. The whole reason behind their relationship seems to be so that they could get drunk in Thailand. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:34, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Jeez, and there's going to be a part 3? I also watched Horrible Bosses, but I can't find where the movie was "racist, homophobic, and misogynistic". —Mike Allen 01:42, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I can't remember what the reviews said, the Village Voice one was the most venomous but I can't remember the points being made. I think it was the all white cast turning to the black man for help (I've read similar complaints with Tower Heist), some gay jokes, and the women all being nymphos. As for the Hangover 3, I think one of the reviews made a point to say how uninspired Phillips is htat they used a wedding again because there are so many reasons and occasions in life that can be used as an excuse for getting drunk and/or drugged. There IS potential there, it remains to be seen if they can actually be bothered to try and find it. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 01:46, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Here's trailer 2 for American Reunion. —Mike Allen 02:00, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for the WikiLove Mike, though that article is an example of why I unfollowed GTA V, once I start I can't stop. Though I'm looking forward to the film as every critic is saying it's a return to 80s Eddie Murphy. The American trailer looks OK, it seems like a premise that would be open to further sequels. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 11:41, 3 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

There's a GTA V? Yes, as you know, IPs can downgrade an article in the matter of minutes. So it's best to stick with an article you put a lot of work into. —Mike Allen 01:48, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Oh I know about video games. :-\ Very good graphics, if that's actually in game footage. —Mike Allen 02:29, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Well as soon as I've played it and can deal with things like plot I'm gonna try and GA it and then never touch a game article again. I don't know what the difference is between film fans and game fans (though I can definitely see overlap between gamers and people who like Harold & Kumar in terms of being idiots with editing (I like H&K)) and adding unsourced stuff but I watched GTAV and then realized my mistake quickly and unwatched it. Most game articles as well you may notice, the user rating system tends to have like 100+ up to 300 ratings before hte game has even come out compared to most films that may have 10. Fast Five had just over 100 I think nearly 7 months after it came out. Darkwarriorblake (talk) 02:44, 4 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Unrelated but didn't want to clutter up your talk page with a new section. If you ever have 40 minutes to burn, watch the Red Letter Media review of Jack and Jill here. His latest movies suck, but his early movies are ok. ;-) Very good review and spot on (even though I haven't seen it). I wonder if that review could be added to the article? Who are the reviewers, do you know their name? —Mike Allen 03:44, 24 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

I wouldn't know what to write, and there would be so much to write. Good info though.. but who really cares about that article? :P I'm sure it won't ever get passed a start class. —Mike Allen 01:15, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, it NEEDS to be there so that anyone who reads it KNOWS what a complete sham of a film it is, but that would give the article more effort than it deserves. It should just fade and die like the Bucky Larson: Born to be a Superstar one. But then...then Sandler gets away with the heist of the century. Mariska Hargitay edit

Overriding a pic with a different version is only permissable when the changes between the two pics are "minor", so I only do this with color changes or minor crops. What constitutes "minor" may be a bit iffy, but the last time that I overwrote a pic with a version that wasn't considered a "minor" difference, it caused a problem on the Commons. I feel less reluctant to do so when the pic being changed is one that I took, so when it's someone else's, I'm more likely to upload the new version separately. Copyright of File:GiantSmurfComic-Con.jpg edit

Hi Mike:

I noticed that you added an image of a giant Smurf to the article The Smurfs (film) that you got from Flickr and uploaded to Wikimedia Commons. You might want to look at Commons:Derivative works. Also, here is a deletion request at Commons on several Smurf images from a while back, with the subject of one of the images that was deleted being a (large?) Smurf balloon at the 2009 Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The issue I see is that the image may not be appropriate for Commons per the aforementioned Commons:Derivative works policy. I have thus nominated the image for deletion from Commons (the discussion is here).

Kind regards,

Proposal to add American cinema task force under WikiProject United States edit

Greetings, I am a member of WikiProject United States, it was recently suggested that the American cinema task force of WikiProject Film which you are a member, might be inactive or semi active and it might be beneficial to include a joint task force for it in the list of projects supported by WikiProject United States, which Kumioko and me have added some of the projects like WikiProject American television and WikiProject United States Government. After reviewing the project it appears that there have not been any active discussion on the talk page in some time and the only content updates appear to be simple maintenance so being supported by a larger project might be beneficial. I have begun a discussion on the task force talk page to see how the members of the project feel about this suggestion. JJ98 (Talk / Contributions) 21:45, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Auto archiving edit

Hi Mike, could you refresh my memory on how you go about getting an article's references automatically archived? Darkwarriorblake (talk) 22:17, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

No way to automatically archive refs. You have to manually do it via WebCitation and add archiveurl=|archivedate=|deadurl=no/yes inside the citation. —Mike Allen 23:31, 14 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Are you sure because I remember doing it for Fast Five. I had to submit it somewhere and it was done a few days later. But I can't remember what I had to do. Not a big deal just saves me some time. I'm trying to archive every time I add a reference now but webcitation goes down a lot.Darkwarriorblake (talk) 00:34, 15 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

for finding the budget for MWWM! Can I include the info about how many US cinemas it opened to in the release section? - JuneGloom Talk 00:53, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

Not a problem. Los Angeles Times reports on Box office predictions every Thursday and includes budgets for the film and I go through every Thursday and add them to articles. Since the film is British you could probably include the pound currency (I think that's correct), which according to this site would covert to £6.4 million (but leave the $10 million in parenthesis since the source only reports that). You don't have to, but that would make it less-Americanized. Of course if you find a better source for the production in pound that would be preferred.  :) Yes including the amount of US cinemas would be good to add. Does it plan on having a wide release in the US? —Mike Allen 01:06, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
I'll do that. I have no idea about a wider US release, something else for me to look up I think! - JuneGloom Talk 01:19, 25 November 2011 (UTC)Reply
Sorry to be a total and utter pain, but I need your help to create a box office section (like the one in Inglourious Basterds) for Marilyn. BOM figures are only in US dollars, but having a source that includes the film country's currency is also preferred. For limited films, the per theater total should be included. When I get some free time I'll head over to the article to take a look. —Mike Allen 21:23, 2 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

A user named Doktorbuk added Little Man on the list of films considered the worst. I reverted it and he put it back on there again. Peer review limits changed edit

This is a notice to all users who currently have at least one open peer review at Wikipedia:Peer review. Because of the large number of peer review requests and relatively low number of reviewers, the backlog of PRs has been at 20 or more almost continually for several months. The backlog is for PR requests which have gone at least four days without comments, and some of these have gone two weeks or longer waiting for a review.

While we have been able to eventually review all PRs that remain on the backlog, something had to change. As a result of the discussion here, the consensus was that all users are now limited to one (1) open peer review request.

If you already have more than one open PR, that is OK in this transition period, but you cannot open any more until all your active PR requests have been closed. If you would like someone to close a PR for you, please ask at Wikipedia talk:Peer review. If you want to help with the backlog, please review an article whoe PR request is listed at Wikipedia:Peer review/backlog/items. Thanks, Ruhrfisch ><>°° 02:59, 3 February 2012 (UTC)Reply
