Stanley Hotel edit

"I corrected the location and the name of the hotel, including moving the page and adding a redirect at the old location. I also wikified The Shining and added information about the filming at The Stanley."

Your page says you are a "senior editor" and has some sort of awards, so you should know this, but there is a box to describe your edits, when nessecary, underneath the edit box, and that type of thing does not need to be posted on the talk page because it is not a major change that people would disagree with. As a matter of fact, if those things on your page are true, I am assuming you DO actually know this and I am very confused as to why you wrote that on the talk page.Rayvn (talk) 02:33, 8 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

P.S.: I have actually done some editing on here but for some reason all of my history, pages, and prefrences were wiped out of Wikipedia after I lost access to a computer for 2 months. Only thing left was my login.

Yes, I'm familiar with the edit summary box, and I agree with much of your note. I think the best explanation as to why I did that is to note that it happened over four years ago, as the date I added to that page indicates. Cheerio and happy editing! Holland, Vt (and others) edit

I noticed that you had placed WP cities banners on various towns in Vermont. Most of these towns are pretty small and don't even qualify for the appellation "city" in tiny Vermont. Is it okay to include them? Is there no "lower cap" on population? Student7 (talk) 02:54, 13 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hi; this is a good question, and thanks for asking it. It's good to see that some pay attention. :) Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities gives the scope of that project as including "municipalities and other civil divisions, including cities, towns, villages, hamlets, townships, unincorporated communities, sections of municipalities, and neighborhoods", so I think I'm within that scope here. High-speed editing edit

Hi! An automated process run by the Bot approvals group has identified your account as engaging in high-speed semi-automated editing with AWB. The bot approvals group would like to encourage you to run these edits fully automatically on a separate account, which has many benefits, including the obvious fact that you won't have to click save (although, you're a software engineer, I daresay you know how to hack up AWB so you don't have to), and then the fact that you won't clog up recent changes with your edits, nor other people's watchlists, and you won't get annoying messages on your talk page like this one! If you're interested, the approvals page is that way. — Werdna talk 16:02, 22 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hello? edit

I'm glad you deleted that article. I was on BoL's User page and i went to his work desk. Anyways it said to place a call so i put hello? Somehow it created an article.

Maybe you can help me. On my userpage my Table link are out of place and i can't figure out how to get them side-by-side and centered. Will you help? --Condolence "(talk)" 04:41, 27 April 2008 (UTC)Reply

What is the purpose of tagging every article for every place? edit

Having many small municipalities included on my watchlist, I have seen an astounding number of municipalities being tagged, mostly by you, as part of the Cities Wikiproject, including places with barely hundreds of residents. Is it the intention of this project to tag every single article for every municipality on earth as part of this project? Is there manpower to do all of the tagging and why shouldn't this be done by bot? Is there any expectation that the tens or hundreds of thousands of such articles will be updated in any meaningful manner? Alansohn (talk) 17:38, 2 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

New Project edit

Myself and several other editors have been compiling a list of very active editors who would likely be available to help new editors in the event they have questions or concerns. As the list grew and the table became more detailed, it was determined that the best way to complete the table was to ask each potential candidate to fill in their own information, if they so desire. This list is sorted geographically in order to provide a better estimate as to whether the listed editor is likely to be active.

If you consider yourself a very active Wikipedian who is willing to help newcomers, please either complete your information in the table or add your entry. If you do not want to be on the list, either remove your name or just disregard this message and your entry will be removed within 48 hours. The table can be found at User:Useight/Highly Active, as it has yet to have been moved into the Wikipedia namespace. Thank you for your help. Useight (talk) 02:43, 3 May 2008 (UTC)Reply

place name disambiguation edit

I undid your move of Flagstaff Lake (Maine) to Flagstaff Lake. While your assertion that there are no other such articles on Wikipedia is correct, it is a temporary situation. Recent pain with Blue Mountains vs. Blue Mountains (Australia) (see discussion) vividly demonstrates how important it is not to use unqualified names unless the place is extremely well-known, such as Paris, Alps, Grand Canyon, etc. Regards, —EncMstr (talk) 16:31, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

I agree that your solution, creating a dabpage, is much better than my attempt at one. Sorry for creating more work for you, thanks and happy editing! Merenta (talk) 16:39, 18 July 2008 (UTC)Reply

Braintree Split: Stub, not Start? edit

Can you give me your rationale for giving Braintree Split a stub rating? I put some amount of effort into the article yesterday, including adding an infobox including map, adding substantial new material and citing both my own and previous source material. It seems to me it has satisfied the criteria on WP:ASSESS to meet start class. Compare the previous version with the current, and then click the examples for "stub" and "start" in the assesment grade table. What do you see that keeps the Braintree Split article in the stub class? Sswonk (talk) 02:04, 16 August 2008 (UTC)Reply

I think you're right - it really is a start-class article, and I have edited that article's talk page to indicate that. The real reason it got marked as "stub" for the Roads project was that it was marked with a road stub template (on the mainspace page, not the talk page). I also removed that to prevent this sort of confusion from happening again. I guess the bottom line is that it's possible for an article to be marked as a stub on any of its project banners (if any) on its talk page, and also on its mainspace page. Anyone (including both of us) that raises an article above stub class should remember to revise all of these, since of course, in contrast to importance ratings, a class rating applies to all projects. I'm not trying to say that this was "your mistake" for not removing the stub template from the mainspace page, of course, since I was a bit too quick on the trigger as well. Cheerio and happy editing!

Then I'm sure you'll be able to bring the article you created up to Wikipedia's standards of notability, as outlined in WP:N. I'm sure that you and I both agree that it would be better for that to happen rather than the article being deleted. Unfortunately, in its present state, it is very likely to be deleted. See WP:OUTCOMES for a general idea of what outcome is to be expected. Thanks, cheerio and happy editing! Merenta (talk) 15:03, 20 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Head Lake (Kawartha Lakes) edit

This is an automated message from CorenSearchBot. I have performed a web search with the contents of Head Lake (Kawartha Lakes), and it appears to be very similar to another wikipedia page: Head Lake (Ontario). It is possible that you have accidentally duplicated contents, or made an error while creating the page— you might want to look at the pages and see if that is the case.

This message was placed automatically, and it is possible that the bot is confused and found similarity where none actually exists. If that is the case, you can remove the tag from the article and it would be appreciated if you could drop a note on the maintainer's talk page. CorenSearchBot (talk) 14:07, 29 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Paul Furniss edit

could you please wait, I literally just created it 10 mins ago and am in the process of constructing article. thanks. Michellecrisp (talk) 00:42, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Please place a {{hangon}} tag on the article and expand it to include some reasonable assertion of notability. In the future, it might be a good idea to create "works in progress" pages in your userspace, and not move them into the main article space until the contents are enough to avoid a call for speedy deletion. Thanks and happy editing! Merenta (talk) 00:45, 8 October 2008 (UTC) (A copy of this has been placed on the other user's talk page as well)Reply
Well you could have waited a few hours at least before trying for speedy delete. Michellecrisp (talk) 00:46, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Anything could have happened, but the process I have described really is the best way to avoid having editors put CSD tags on pages that you create - it is absolutely within bounds for a page that meets CSD criteria to be so marked. Cheerio and happy editing! Merenta (talk) 00:48, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Doesn't hurt to wait for a few hours or 1 day does it? I've never seen anything nominated for speedy delete after three mins? Michellecrisp (talk) 00:50, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Actually, a large percentage of new pages are so nominated within minutes, and in almost all cases, rightly so. I've already added a note to your page cautioning you to not remove "call for speedy deletion" tqags from pages that you have created; that is considered vandalism as per Wikipedia:Vandalism. Please don't do it again. Merenta (talk) 00:54, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

a large percentage of new pages are so nominated within minutes could I see some evidence for that? Michellecrisp (talk) 00:57, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

NOTE: The above conversation has been refactored by Michellecrisp. Please see earlier versions in this page's history for the pre-refactored versions. Merenta (talk) 01:49, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The only thing I refactored is to say that you speedily deleted an article after only 3 minutes. This is the only refactor. I am an experienced editor and have never seen that before on Wikipedia. Michellecrisp (talk) 01:55, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
Certainly the stub article Paul Furniss is not a speedy delete candidate. A quick Google search would have indicated there is no basis of speedy delete. Please consider this in future when wanting to speedy delete articles 3 minutes after their creation by an established editor. Michellecrisp (talk) 03:31, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply
No, it certainly isn't. In fact, I think it's probably not even a stub any more. Happy editing! Merenta (talk) 13:12, 10 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

The Maplebrook School edit

I think you, or someone else in the New York State WikiProject, rated The Maplebrook School article a stub class. I went on to the rating system and it looks like a B to me (or at least a C). Could you take another look or tell me how to improve the article? Thanks in advance. LedRush (talk) 23:05, 8 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually it was user "John Bot" who first assessed that article as a stub; that happened back in May. Although his assessment was for WP Schools, "class" assessments don't differ between projects (importance assessments do, of course). I did incorporate that level in my addition of this article to the New York State project instead of what I really should have done, which was a full reassessment. In reality I don't think the article was actually a stub back then, and it certainly isn't one now, so you don't really need to improve it further to change its class assessment. My recommendation is to be bold - change the class assessment to the level that you think is correct. Remember to change the parameters to both templates on the talk page and - this is also very important - remove the stub template that's on the mainspace page as well. Cheerio and happy editing! Slabtown edit

The reference I took that from actually uses a generic term "tenderloin district" for the area with crime, prostitution, etc. Maybe that was a more common phrase in the 1950s when the history was written. I'll change it to red-light district. --Jolomo (talk) 22:31, 13 October 2008 (UTC)Reply

Merging Howland (CDP), Maine into Howland, Maine edit

Hi. I am contacting you because you seem to be the sole author of the article Howland (CDP), Maine. Howland, Maine Has the info from Howland CDP, along with some additional information. So, what's your take? Thanks in advance, Patman21 (talk) 22:55, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I haven't added anything to that article - I've added to its talk page, though. Although I frequently oppose similar merger proposals in pages about Wisconsin communities, I have little to add to a discussion about Maine. If the people who live there use "Howland" to mean where they come from and don't really regard the Town as a different entity from the CDP, it seems like a pretty good merge to me. Merenta (talk) 23:00, 7 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, then in this case, a redirect to Howland, Maine Might be the trick. Thanks for your help! Patman21 (talk) 14:45, 10 December 2008 (UTC)Reply
