Matt, please re consider my speedy deletion: philipofBVMPhilipofBVM (talk)

If someone's photo was mistakenly used by myself some half year ago, I ask that the photo be "returned" to the owner, and it be taken down, if need be; however, to delete my account altogether, seems incorrect to me. Thanks. philipofBVMPhilipofBVM (talk) — Preceding undated comment added 19:28, 4 August 2015 (UTC)

Hi, I wrote the article about Marye Dahnke. In an earlier version, I included some references to "ephemera" (meaning: pamphlets and brochures) published by Kraft. It seems that citing these was not OK? Seeing that Ms. Dahnke was a very early female home economist, and a well-known one, I would ask that you allow me to include references to these documents. I will do my best to get as much bibliographic information as possible.

Thanks. Any thoughts on this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Softwaremama (talkcontribs) 22:26, 16 August 2015 (UTC)

Christ's Sanctified Holy Church

Matthew,

I saw that you made edits to the Christ's Sanctified Holy Church wikipedia page. I was raised in that church, and have since left, but am related to one of the founders, Sarah E. Collins. I was fascinated by the sources and information you provided and wanted to know how you ran across that information and if you have any suggestions for further research. Growing up in the church, and learning of it's "history" many important details were omitted, I imagine to preserve the reputation of the church and founders. I would love to talk to you further about this at your earliest convenience. Thanks!

Hi MatthewVanitas, I just wanted to let you know that I finally edited this article after a summer of travelling. I removed all the content from the Overview that I was not able to reference from newspaper articles, and learned how to insert inline citations properly. I'm not sure if it will be you or another randomly-assigned editor who looks at this again, but thought I should inform you. I have taken a look at the Teahouse as you suggested, and will perhaps post there if this article is rejected again. Kind regards, Tim

because I keep being told I don't have a reliable source, yet I am the reliable source, I've verified all is true and know for a fact as I am Mike Garrett.

Hello @74.100.182.120:, you are not at all understanding what we mean by "reliable source". It does not mean "trust me, I am the guy, I know"; that is not at all how Wikipedia operates. Please see WP:Reliable sources which explains what we mean: evidence in books, news articles, academic papers which discuss the MSPC, its history, its significance, its impact, etc. If the MSPC has not received such formal coverage, that doesn't necessarily mean we think they don't matter (theirs could be a great untold story that some journalist or researcher should be digging into) but it would mean that we can't have an article about them if there aren't documented, vetted, established sources which have recorded verifiable facts about them. See our overarching rule at WP:42, summarized here:

Articles generally require significant coverage

in reliable sources

that are independent of the topic.

Hi matthew

I am writing to you reffereing the article that I submited early aboaut DOT CONDUCTOR

Dot conductor is is new in the market, yes, but it is in apple store and it is in google play and has been a search matter during 9 years.

it is a fact what it is showing. a tool that can edit the performance and this is the first time in the history of the music that happen

I read the articles of google glass or apple and also looks advertisement so, what is the point to reject it

you dont understand the content?

imagine I am Guenberg and I invent the printing system and send to wikipedia, what you would say to him, that seems and advertisement?

only powerful companies can write articles?

I consider extremely discriminatory from wikipedia

and of course all the articles in wikipedia if they are referring to some technology they make some kind of advertisement in it and wikipedia also need this technology exist so you can post in wikipedia.

Dot conductor it is not just a brand build on something that already exist. it is not pretend to be an advertisement, it pretend to be a place where everybody can see what is dot conductor and the revolution in the comumincation that is behind. Dot conductor inside has a revolution in how to use the technology in music. has a revolution when editing performance is possible.

so you only things you want to see is that is an advertisement. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Dot Conductor (talkcontribs) 13:20, 16 October 2015 (UTC)

Draft:Andrey Bystritsky

Dear Mr. Vanitas,

My name is Nikolay and I am a newcomer to wikipedia. You blocked the article about Bystritsky Andrey, because of lack of notability. The fact is that the article already exists on Russian Wikipedia: https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%91%D1%8B%D1%81%D1%82%D1%80%D0%B8%D1%86%D0%BA%D0%B8%D0%B9,_%D0%90%D0%BD%D0%B4%D1%80%D0%B5%D0%B9_%D0%93%D0%B5%D0%BE%D1%80%D0%B3%D0%B8%D0%B5%D0%B2%D0%B8%D1%87 .

Bystritsky is a notable russian media person and scientist.

Maybe I need to do something else to prove that an aricle worth publicing. Please help me.

Kind Regards,

Nikolay — Preceding unsigned comment added by Kino domino2015 (talkcontribs) 14:19, 26 October 2015 (UTC)

Hello @Kino domino2015:, the problem is that you have not provided any serious sourcing for your draft, just a link to a club he's in and to a short bio. You have many facts in your draft and you give us no idea where these facts come from. I urge you to read WP:Referencing for beginners.
As an example, you say Andrey Bystritsky is a Professor and PhD (Pedagogics, 1989). He is a member of the Union of Writers. In June 2007, he received the Order of Honour.. Okay, who documents these facts? Where is it documented that he is a professor? Where is it documented that he received the Order of Honour? And ideally we don't want to use just the link to his school, or to the Union, but separate, objective, media or academic coverage of these facts. So you could for example find an academic article that mentions Bystritsky's professorship and put a footnote at the end of that sentence, and a news article announcing Order of Honour winners that mentions his award and put it at the end of that sentence.
I see that the Russian version doesn't really use sourcing, but "another page did it poorly" is not an excuse to make a similarly unreferenced article here on English Wikipedia. The whole point of Articles for Creation is that people like me help you to make the strongest article possible, an an unreferenced article is not strong.
So please read a little bit of WP:Notability (people) to see how to prove a person's Notability. Note: it is not proven simply by you telling us "he's important", it's by you showing that serious journalists and academics have written about him. And if you want to see the easy way to code footnotes, see WP:Referencing for beginners. Please make these fixes, and then we will be closer to publishing. Request on 23:19:04, 26 October 2015 for assistance on AfC submission by Tombrady33

I understand the mistake but this page does not exist. There is a discography page for the group but it does not talk about this era of the groups history . I would like to see this page linked to the page you are referring to as the added information on these albums which does not exist. I must admit I am new to the site and do not know how to link items and a few other things as of yet. Please look at the page you are referring to and see how these albums do not have a link. My idea was to make only one page for the group for this era and cover all the albums released in this era. Tom Brady

How do I link to a item listed on another page on the site? The items are albums listed in a groups discography but they do not have a link to further information on the album. My page lists four albums like this and i want to link each section to the section of my page talking about that album. OR Just link the page to the groups discography page. Hello @Webrbandz:, your best bet is to post your question at Wikipedia:WikiProject_Articles_for_creation/Help_desk. The more specific you can be about your questions, the better, so let them know clearly whether you're having trouble finding strong neutral sources, having trouble formatting the coding, etc. They should be able to help you out if you let them know specifically what are the main points you find confusing. Draft: Nuala Moore

Matthew, I have just left a comment regarding the notability of swimmers and the applicable notability guidelines we use to evaluate them on the Nuala Moore article draft. I work a lot with articles for competitive swimmers, including Olympic competitors and medalists. I have not done a full-blown notability analysis for Nuala Moore, but I will point out that several of the source media articles linked in the draft footnotes do appear to constitute significant coverage of the subject in mainstream media outlets. If you want to discuss the subject further, please ping me. I'm a frequent participant in sports-related AfDs, and I am familiar with the applicable notability guidelines and their application. Papageorgiou - Venetas, Alexandros

Dear Matthew Vanitas hello, iam a new member in wikipedia and i would like some help to improve my first article so that it fulfills the requirements and be approved in the wikipedia data base.

As you see in my first submission i have add an academic person: PROF. DR. ALEXANDER PAPAGEORGIOU - VENETAS Architect, Town Planner and Urban Historian My first submission was lack of some elements as i saw in the message that reject it for the time being

As i see in the Notability (academics) page i need to do some more things such as references (links) to sources that proves the importance and the existence of this person. What i would like to ask is 1) This references with links must lead to a wikipedia pages or in any other reliable sources For example these can be: Links to the publisher's page of the books that Mr Papageorgiou has written? Links to Videos with speeches where he was invited to participate? Links to Univercities where proves his academic carrer? Any other link to approve that he is a membership in several Technical Chambers, Associations and International Societies, Academies etc?

Thank you very much in advance, iam waiting for your reply. With Regards Alex from Athens Greece Alexandrospv (talk) 11:31, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Hello @Alexandrospv:, I know it's a lot of new rules to learn, but taking another look at WP:Notability (academics) will help with your questions. The basic answer is this: another Wikipedia article is not a Reference (it can be a WP:Wikilink) and works by Papageorgiou himself are not References (since all they prove is that he exists and has written, which is not in dispute).
Fundamentally what References are: "what other experts write about him". So for example, if he won XYZ Famous Award, ideally you would cite a newspaper article that mentions his award, not his own website or his school's page. If his ABC Theory has had a great impact on the field, rather than cite "ABC Theory by Papageorgiou" we want you to cite "Professor Smith's" analysis of the XYZ Theory published by "Acme University" where Smith says "Papageorgiou's XYZ theory had a tremendous impact on the works of Johnson and Blake, leading to the JKL Theorem of 1998".
So in summary, we need you not to argue that the subject is important by showing us his published works and titles, you need to show us that other experts have noted Papageorgiou's works and achievements as significant in the field, by citing those other experts and their comments about him. Does that help answer your question? MatthewVanitas (talk) 21:24, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Mr Matthew Vanitas hello again. Thank you very much for your quick and helpful reply. I will follow your instructions and try to collect the right references and material for my subject. So that it can be a real informative content for the Wikipedia visitors according to the rules of making a right article. Thank you once again. Alexandrospv (talk) 23:24, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

I wanted to let you know that I just tagged Rohan Niesan for deletion, because the article doesn't clearly say why the subject is important enough to be included in an encyclopedia.

If you feel that the article shouldn't be deleted and want more time to work on it, you can contest this deletion, but please don't remove the speedy deletion tag from the top.

You can leave a note on my talk page if you have questions. Officialjjones (talk) 12:28, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

Need help with edits left on my page

Hello,

Both you and another editor FlatOut were editing my article, however he left Wikipedia and I still need help deciphering some of his comments:

They left this comment, "Large sections remain unreferenced. The article appears to be copy-pasted from somewhere but I haven't been able to identify the source". I don't really understand because I cited any direct quotes and anything else is information that I got from one of my listed references. I also did not copy and paste the information in the article. However, I did use complicated sentence structuring and I know the history portion reads sort of like a story. If it helps, I can try to simplify my writing and stick to listing the facts.

Thank you

The Shade Store Wikipedia Page

Good morning, Matthew - hope all is well.

By way of introduction, I joined The Shade Store in September, and have been managing our digital footprint.

Revisiting our rejected submission in June 2015, I wanted to circle the wagons and see if you might have availability to connect to help me understand what more needs to be done for us to have a page presence. With the holidays nearly here, we're keen to have a presence on Wikipedia ASAP.

We have tons of content to leverage (on our website), as well as third party references to add weight to our page.

Please advise and/or let me know if you have any questions.

Appreciate your response in advance.

Cheers, Adam Walker awalker@theshadestore.com 212.645.2424 x348 108.6.21.75 (talk) 14:18, 19 November 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. 11:29:12, 1 December 2015 review of submission by EricNshimiye

Dear Matthew, I have submitted the page and seen that it has been declined because information posted on the page exists on another page. I would like to ask if it is possible more assistance.

Regards, Eric

Hello @EricNshimiye:, the issue was that when Draft:SafeMotos was declined because it copied too much from another website, you created an extra copy of the same page (now filed as Draft:SafeMotos (2). You must do all your writing about SafeMotos on the same page, so please take any changes you've made at Draft:SafeMotos (2) and move them over to Draft:SafeMotos for consistency. Once you have done so, then click the "Resubmit" button at the top of Draft:SafeMotos to get it back in line for a review. Do note again that your first submitting was declined because it copied directly from material at http://safemotos.com/2015/02/carma-axlr8r-meet-safemotos/ so please do make sure that everything in your draft is in your own words, and represents an outside and neutral perspective (you are on the right track by adding citations to major newspapers), so that you are not simply making an extra website for SafeMotos. The Wikipedia page must be about SafeMotos, not a place for SafeMotos to list or advertise themselves. MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:52, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Telelinguistics

After looking over many other wiki's , i find that just because mr Draper has little data to back up the thesis, Other genuine Linguistic speakers have a very similar theory .i.e Dan Sperber and the relevance theory. other people have little or no data in some circumstances other than situations from other speakers data and they have managed to acquire a wikilink.... I feel there would be no harm from my theory being advertised on wiki. it is advertised many other places and is also the only theory on google / internet associated with the word telelinguistic although telelinguistic communication is a natural phenomenon and well known within the linguistic field...Telelinguistic communication is awaiting a theory and a speaker. i think you will find i am one of those people.....why stop a theory from being published when another theory by a reputable speaker confirms the method of communication under another study of linguistic communication.....i feel it is the strict limits wiki is imposing without any understanding of theory in question and that under the circumstances surrounding the thesis it would be beneficial for alot of people studying the phenomenon...

who knows maybe the word telelinguistic will be use able in other theory's....would you deny those genius a factor of their understanding..

Hello, @Mysterdee:, Wikipedia is not taking any stances on the validity of any theory, that's not our role. What our role is, is to compile existing documented statements and facts. If Telelinguistics has been examined and studied by people other than its orignator(s), then by all means cite those WP:Secondary sources who can provide objective insight on the issue. If nobody has formally written about Telelinguistics other than its originator(s), it may be a brilliant theory that's about to change the world, but as an encyclopedia we really wouldn't have anything to say about it *yet* until it gains more secondary coverage. The simple explanation is:

Articles generally require significant coverage

in reliable sources

that are independent of the topic.

If Telelinguistics has not yet garnered a body of independent coverage (not just its proponents) in reliable sources (serious academic works, major media, etc not just blogs and homepages) then it is not yet ready for Wikipedia, though we do not at all deny that any topic may in the future garner great attention and merit a Wikipedia article. Hope this helps! MatthewVanitas (talk) 15:57, 1 December 2015 (UTC)

Help with The Viking Yurt Article

Hey Matt!

Thanks so much for your feedback. This was my first article, so I appreciate all help I can get. Also, you should definitely visit the Yurt! My friend's parents own the restaurant so I can't take any credit.

I guess there isn't much information on the Viking Yurt outside of blogs and local newspapers. Is there any chance that the first part of the article will stay published if I were to remove everything else? Like the dining section?

It is often mentioned that the restaurant was voted one of the most romantic places in America on the Today Show Valentines 2013, but I can't find that information on the Today Show's website... only on websites such as: http://parkcityvr.com/activities/winter-activities/ and on the restaurant website. Would I be able to mention it with this source?

I would also like to include that supplies are brought up via snowmobile and prepared in a nearby lodge, but the only source I found was: http://archive.sltrib.com/article.php?id=2511177&itype=NGPSID I'm not sure if this would be considered another local newspaper, and not a reliable source.

Let me know what you think! I really want to get this published.

Thanks again Kumamot2 (talk) 22:27, 3 December 2015 (UTC)

Hey @Kumamot2:, I would definitely use the SLT article to source some additional interesting facts in your draft. Establishing Notability is more "art than science" but I would submit that the SLT article definitely helps because it's not just Park City news. My take: if you can add at least two more sources which are objective expert viewers, such as a culinary magazine, another newspaper that's either statewide or out of state, etc. I think you could make a case for Notability.
Fundamentally, an encyclopedia "talks about things people are already talking about", by definition an encyclopedia avoids breaking new ground or covering things that aren't covered, since we're a WP:Tertiary source that provides a digest of existing documented facts.
I think you've overlooking one easy way to add sources: go scope out GoogleBooks and I think you'll find a couple useful things. Generic brief listings in guidebooks aren't great sourcing, but there's one mention in a book that I think is really worth noting: this one. From what I'm seeing you should be able to find what you need there. As an aside, to simplify formatting your footnotes, when you go into a GoogleBooks entry, just copy the URL, plug it into the tool at http://reftag.appspot.com and it'll instantly turn it into a fully-formatted footnote. That tool has saved hours out my life!
Okay, so my non-binding guess is that you can get this published if you do the following:
  • Sweep through the article and remove anything that smacks of promotional and subjective. Any "unique", "lovely", "breathtaking", etc must be removed, we need bone-dry phrasing.
  • Completely set aside any thought of customers reading this, imagine your reader as someone in a different country decades from now when the restaurant is long gone, and speak to that reader. If you write this as though it's for a customer, it won't get published, and honestly makes for a lame article that's just redundant to Yelp or TripAdvisor. We want history and impact, not minutiae.
  • Even if you find a fact interesting, if that fact is documented nowhere except TVY's own website, then by default that means that nobody else happens to have found that fact interesting enough to mention in a book/magazine/newspaper which by default means Wikipedia isn't interested in that fact (yet). Does that kinda make sense? We by definition only care about things that a neutral expert observer would care about.
  • Peruse through the several books and magazines that you can view/preview on GoogleBooks, find the interesting facts about TVY that outside observers have noted, add those facts to the article, and cite them to the source with a clear footnote.
Give it a shot, ping me again if you have follow-up questions. MatthewVanitas (talk) 11:16, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
