Your question at Teahouse.

Hi, Andrea! Welcome to Wikipedia. I'm Gtwfan52 and am part of a team here that tries to improve new editor's experiences with the idea that if things are nicer and we help make things easier, you will be more likely to stay around. We all find it hard here at first. I have only been here 6 months and there are a lot of things that are pretty doggone confusing still.

Firstly, in regard to your last question, I would like to ask you a favor. Please don't take things personally around here. Since we are all anonymous, sometimes folks forget that there are people asking the questions, submitting the articles, etc. That leads all too often to short, full of jargon replies that are none too helpful to new editors like us. No one is trying to demean your writing abilities at all. Writing for an encyclopedia is a very specific type of style that lies somewhere in a combination of expository writing and journalism. Whereas in expository writing, you write about only what you can observe and draw no conclusions, in encyclopedic writing you write only about what others have seen (exhibited through references) and draw no conclusions. To quote Joe Friday, "Just the facts, Maam!" The other thing about encyclopedic writing is that you have to stick to what is notable. That means avoiding triviality. An example might be in an article about a city, one might be tempted to include all sorts of details about the local fire department. But every city has a fire department and most have roughly the same kinds of equipment. So it is trivial.

Ok, some specifics: I would lose the section "Trivia" completely. I'd move the item about the first performance to history, along with the info about touring, if you can reference it. The rest is, as you titled it, trivia, and as such should probably go away. It is my impression that the group is not a fixed bunch of folks, but rather a large group where some of the members participate some of the time. Is that correct? Even if it isn't, you should probably lose the big bulky list of all the artists and just work their names into the text. We kinda frown on big lists of people and or things that are not notable enough to have Wikipedia articles of their own. The list of YouTube videos has to go away, as linking to YouTube is not allowed. As far as your references go, they are pretty darn good for a first timer! One small problem, though. Reliable references are the requirement, and a few of yours are not. Reliable references are publications where the content is subject to some fact checking, like newspapers, magazines and books. Social media is definitely not allowed as references. This includes Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, Twitter and Linkdin.

You have written a good article for a first attempt. Thank you for that. Notability for Music is an area where most first timers fall way short. You haven't. I'd guess that at least 50% of all new music articles get declined for notability. That isn't an issue for you. Clean up the style issues and you should be good to go. If you ever need anything feel free to write me on my talk page. Thanks for being here. Gtwfan52 (talk) 22:01, 20 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Caligola

edit

Good day Andrea! I have been following the evolution of your article, your hard work and understandable frustration and would like to help. I have marked the article on hold for review and will be working on it over the next few days. During that time please don't edit the article in any way as it will result in a conflict that I may not be able to remedy.

Sometimes a person just needs someone to clean up an article and provide an example for you, and then you can be off and running with a new article. It will take me a few days (I have to allow time for my day job) to do the work that needs to be done but I expect when I am finished your article will be ready to be created. I think the artist's collective and the music project and notable so bear with me and we will get it done!

If you wish to contact me for any reason in the meantime, please feel free to leave a message at my talk. Have a great day! Snowysusan 10:25, 23 August 2012 (UTC)

Caligola

edit

Hi Andrea. As promised, I have continued to work on the article and will create it as a Wikipedia article in a few moments. I just wanted to let you know that I think you did a great job researching the piece and sticking with it! I hope you will continue contributing to Wikipedia. You may also continue to add to, edit, and update the Caligola page once it is created. Cheers! Snowysusan 14:20, 25 August 2012 (UTC)

Hi! Thank you very much for your help and encouragement! It is great to see it published. Thanks for your effort! And I tried to do my best about the links which wasn't that easy, but I managed :-) so thanks a lot again! And I will update - there are many things happening right now, and many others to come. Maybe I'll even find something else to write about, who knows? I kind of like this now ;-) Andrea Schweinberger (talk) 14:56, 25 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited Caligola (music project), you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Back To Earth (check to confirm | fix with Dab solver). Replaceable fair use File:Mando Diao 2012.jpg

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mando Diao 2012.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that this media item is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails the first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media item could be found or created that provides substantially the same information or which could be adequately covered with text alone. If you believe this media item is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the file description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the file discussion page, write the reason why this media item is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media item by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by creating new media yourself (for example, by taking your own photograph of the subject).

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these media fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per the non-free content policy. If you have any questions, please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. (ESkog)(Talk) 05:56, 8 June 2013 (UTC)Reply

Orphaned non-free media (File:Mando Diao 2012.jpg)

edit

Thanks for uploading File:Mando Diao 2012.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'file' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "File" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. Hazard-Bot (talk) 05:28, 9 June 2013 (UTC)Reply
