ArbCom 2023 Elections voter message

Hello! Voting in the 2023 Arbitration Committee elections is now open until 23:59 (UTC) on Monday, 11 December 2023. All eligible users are allowed to vote. Users with alternate accounts may only vote once.

The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to impose binding solutions to disputes between editors, primarily for serious conduct disputes the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the authority to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail.

If you wish to participate in the 2023 election, please review the candidates and submit your choices on the voting page. If you no longer wish to receive these messages, you may add {{NoACEMM}} to your user talk page. MediaWiki message delivery (talk) 00:59, 28 November 2023 (UTC)

Annukka Ylivaara

Hi, I noticed that you removed the branch and rank insignia from the infobox of Annukka Ylivaara. Any particular reason? Some articles on military people have them, some don't, but I'm not aware of a policy for or against. Thanks, -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 09:13, 3 December 2023 (UTC)

Hi DoubleGrazing, see MOS:INFOBOXFLAG (Avoid flag icons in infoboxes. Generally, flag icons should not be used in infoboxes, even when there is a "country", "nationality" or equivalent field. [..] Flag icons should only be inserted in infoboxes in those cases where they convey information in addition to the text.) and MOS:ICONDECORATION (Icons should serve an encyclopedic purpose and not merely be decorative. [..] An icon is purely decorative if it does not improve comprehension of the article subject and serves no navigational function. As far as I can see, the icons I removed did not provide any additional information not already available in a more digestible form from the associated text. Ljleppan (talk) 10:34, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
Okay, thanks. I thought military people might have been an exception to this 'no icons in infobox' rule, because you do see them used quite often (then again, quite often you don't...), but perhaps not. -- DoubleGrazing (talk) 10:56, 3 December 2023 (UTC)
The rules are somewhat vague ("avoid", "generally", etc.), and a lot of military infoboxes fall into cases where flags are useful: for example in Battle of the Bulge the flags are useful for associating nationalities to entries in a larger list. There's also a ton of older military articles that are just filled with all kinds of flags and icons that are purely decorational, and nobody has just got around to them (or cared enough) to fix them. Invitation

Hello Ljleppan, we need experienced volunteers.
  • New Page Patrol is currently struggling to keep up with the influx of new articles. We could use a few extra hands on deck if you think you can help.
  • Reviewing/patrolling a page doesn't take much time but it requires a good understanding of Wikipedia policies and guidelines; Wikipedia needs experienced users to perform this task and there are precious few with the appropriate skills. Even a couple reviews a day can make a huge difference.
  • Kindly read the tutorial before making your decision (if it looks daunting, don't worry, it basically boils down to checking CSD, notability, and title). If this looks like something that you can do, please consider joining us.
  • If you would like to join the project and help out, please see the granting conditions. You can apply for the user-right HERE.
  • If you have questions, please feel free to drop a message at the reviewer's discussion board.
  • Cheers, and hope to see you around.

Autocracy GA renomination

Hello! It took me a little while, but I finally revisited autocracy and fixed or replied to the comments in your review. I wanted to thank you again for your review and let you know I've renominated it, just in case you wanted to pick up where we left off. Thebiguglyalien (talk) 20:45, 11 February 2024 (UTC)

Hi! Good to see you are editing again. I'm rather busy with work for a few more days, but if nobody has picked up the review by the weekend, I'll see if I can find the time to wrap it up myself. Ljleppan (talk) 08:57, 12 February 2024 (UTC)
