Copy edit

The Homosexuality in speculative fiction needs a copyedit before it goes (finally!) to FAC. It would be great if you could give it a once over - i think it is outside the experience of most people :-). Thanks!Yobmod (talk) 13:18, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

I may have asked before, but the article is at FAC and a reviewer suggested for another party to give the article a once-over. I realize that you may be busy, and I'm terribly sorry if I'm importuning. Thanks! Ink Runner (talk) 06:29, 27 November 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit?

Hi there. I came across a list of copyeditors and wondered if you could take a look at the Brotherhood of Man article which I re-wrote a few months back?

I don't suppose you like the band (or have even heard of them!), but at least them being completely uncool means that I get to write the page myself! I did put it up for a good article review twice - which it failed. I expected this, but really was just looking for reviews of what needed to be done. I changed much of what they said, but they also said it needed copyediting. I can't really see where its readability is poor, but perhaps you can spot it better than me? I didn't think my writing style was that bad to be honest!

I hope you don't mind me asking this and please let me know if I'm being too forward.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 01:22, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Having had a quick look at it - I think the lead and Early Line-Up sections are a bit awkward, from then on it's not too bad.--Tuzapicabit (talk) 01:29, 13 December 2008 (UTC)

Copyedit

Hello Livitup, I have seen your name in the list of copyedit volunteers. Would you mind having a look at Framo (car). It's a quite short article. Many thanks. --Camtronix (talk) 12:15, 20 July 2009 (UTC)

An exciting opportunity to get involved!

As a member of the Aviation WikiProject or one of its subprojects, you may be interested in testing your skills in the Aviation Contest! I created this contest, not to pit editor against editor, but to promote article improvement and project participation and camraderie. Hopefully you will agree with its usefulness. Sign up here, read up on the rules here, and discuss the contest here. The first round of the contest may not start until September 1st-unless a large number of editors signup and are ready to compete immediately! Since this contest is just beginning, please give feedback here, or let me know what you think on my talkpage. - Trevor MacInnis contribs 23:02, 22 August 2009 (UTC)

copy-editing

hi, i saw ur name listed at WP:PRV, would u please take a look at Siege of Damascus (634), it has already passed GA class but as an A class nominee it was said to have require some copy editing. Regards الله أكبرMohammad Adil 12:30, 7 February 2010 (UTC)

Dear Sirs. You have some categories in your sandbox under "McGill_University" and those appears at the categories. But I guess you know that, and just didn't see it.Jonny Hansson (talk) 23:44, 13 July 2010 (UTC)

Copyedit request for A1 (Croatia)

Hi! I'm trying to improve A1 (Croatia) for GAN and I would like to ask if you would give it once over since I'm not a native speaker of English. I saw you wrote that you love the challenge of longer articles and that your interests include travel to continental Europe - well, this one is a fairly long article on a motorway in Europe! The article is currently listed among peer review requests (review suggestions have already been applied) and copyedit requests. Thanks!--Tomobe03 (talk) 22:10, 9 September 2010 (UTC)

Just noticed your earlier answer to a copyedit request. I don't mind waiting a bit as I'm hoping to get some more peer review feedback and there may be some more changes to the article and thereby more opportunity for me to mess up English.--Tomobe03 (talk) 00:05, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

I'd love to copyedit for you once my other commitments are met... I'll get in touch in October. LivitEh?/What? 12:41, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
Hi again! I'm glad to say that the A1 (Croatia) successfully passed GAN review. I'd like to thank you for your offer to copyedit it, but since someone else from WP:GoCE copyedited I don't need you to copyedit it as well.

On the other hand, I'd still like to ask you for a copyedit of a similar article which shall also be submitted for GAN review shortly, if that may be possible - that one is A3 (Croatia). The article is currently submitted for a peer review, so some changes may still make their way into the text though. Thanks!--Tomobe03 (talk) 21:50, 2 October 2010 (UTC)

Abraham Lincoln

Hi, I left you a note on GOCE's Request page but not sure if you saw it. I already started on this article a couple of hours before you posted on the request page. In the past, when 2 editors somehow end up editing the same article, it was decided that both could share the article for the Drive, i.e. both can be credited for the word-count. However, I see you haven't started yet, so I am not sure if this will be allowed. Do you want me to continue with my edits? Please let me know soon. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 13:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Very grateful to get the help with AL ! Carmarg4 (talk) 19:55, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

SMasters, go ahead and work on it yourself - I didn't make much progress today anyway. I'll find something else to work on. LivitEh?/What? 03:19, 19 September 2010 (UTC)
OK cool, I'll move my edits there. Cheers. - S Masters (talk) 03:30, 19 September 2010 (UTC)

Do you have the inclination to do a c/e on Abraham Lincoln? What it needs is a c/e for prose, and while Smasters did a super awesome job, they didn't work on the prose. Not sure if you work on prose either. In any case, if you don't have time or whatever, that's fine. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 02:11, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

Just want to add my thanks for your interest in looking at this earlier. I have expressed my gratitude to Smasters; anyway, the importance of the article couldn't be much greater according to the feedback from our FA nomination so if another set of editor's eyes can look at this that would great. Carmarg4 (talk) 12:23, 21 September 2010 (UTC)

So did SMasters basically do a grammar and style copy edit, and you're looking for someone to recast the prose where needed? If so, I'd be happy to work on it some, I could get started in a couple weeks. LivitEh?/What? 20:26, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Your idea of recasting the prose is what we are looking for so we would appreciate being on your to do list; the sooner the better. Carmarg4 (talk) 20:34, 23 September 2010 (UTC)
Yep, we need an outside look at the prose. Thanks for looking into it. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 03:24, 26 September 2010 (UTC)
Ping. Do you have time for a c/e? If not, I totally understand. - Peregrine Fisher (talk) 03:34, 15 October 2010 (UTC)

Grammar Questions

Hello I have seen that you are part of the WikiProject Guild of Copy Editors and saw that you like "longer articles"? In the past few days I have re-created a article that interest me and expanded it. Before moving my sandbox, User:AJona1992/Sandbox8, to its article I would like to first know if I have done any mistakes on any number of things such as grammar. If you can look over it and tell me if there are any errors that may need to be fix before nominating the article into a GA or FA? Thanks AJona1992 (talk) 14:30, 28 September 2010 (UTC)

September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

GOCE September 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive. Thanks to all who participated! Several of our top editors were called away to real life concerns during the month (be careful out there, people!). This meant that once again, we did not meet all our lofty targets, but we did come close.

Stats

  • Out of 76 registered editors, 45 actively participated.
  • We nearly wiped out the 2008 articles from the backlog—there were only 13 remaining when the drive closed.
  • We reduced the backlog by 725 articles (11.5%), so it was another successful drive.
  • A total of 59 barnstars will be awarded to 40 editors—well done, and congratulations to all.

Barnstars
If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you edited in the July 2010 GOCE Backlog Elimination Drive, you may have earned rollover words, which counted towards this month's barnstars (except for the leaderboard awards). Any unused word credits will be held over for the next drive, as long as you participated in the September drive. Over the course of the next week or two, we will be handing out the barnstars. Click here to see a list of barnstar winners.

  • We will be holding our next drive in November. You can sign up here.

A huge "thank you" to all editors who helped clear the backlog and to others who helped out behind-the-scenes. See you at the next drive, and until then, please continue to help us work through the backlog. Happy editing!

GOCE barnstar

  The Working Man's Barnstar
For your copyediting efforts during the Guild of Copy Editors' September 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive, editing five articles with a combined total of 9,622 words, I have great pleasure in presenting you with this barnstar. On behalf of the Guild, thank you for your participation, and see you at the next drive. – S Masters (talk) 16:46, 4 October 2010 (UTC)

November 2010 backlog elimination drive update

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

We have reached the midway point in our backlog elimination drive, so here is an update.

Participation report — The November drive has 53 participants at this point. We had 77 participants in the September drive. In July, 95 people signed up for the drive, and in May we had 36. If you are not participating, it is not too late to join!

Progress report — The drive is quite successful so far, as we have already almost reached our target of a 10% reduction in the number of articles in the backlog. We are doing very well at keeping our Requests page clear, as those articles count double for word count for this drive.

Please keep in mind the possibility of removing other tags when you are finished with an article. If the article no longer needs {{cleanup}}, {{wikify}}, or other similar maintenance tags, please remove them, as this will make the tasks of other WikiProjects easier to complete. Thanks very much for participating in the Drive, and see you at the finish line!

November 2010 Backlog Elimination Drive Conclusion

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors Backlog Elimination Drive!

We have reached the end of our fourth backlog elimination drive. Thanks to all who participated.

Stats

GOCE November 2010 backlog elimination drive graphs
  • 58 people signed up for this drive. Of these, 48 people participated in the drive.
  • Although we did not eliminate the months we planned to (January, February, and March 2009; and August, September, and October 2010), we did reduce the backlog by 627 articles (11.2%), which was over our goal of 10%.
  • 49 awards will go out to 33 of 48 participants. Check out the complete list of barnstar winners here.

Barnstars

If you copy edited at least 4,000 words, you qualify for a barnstar. If you participated in the September 2010 backlog elimination drive, you may have earned roll-over words (more details can be found here). These roll-over words count as credit towards earning barnstars, except for leaderboard awards. We will be delivering these barnstars within the next couple of weeks.

Our next drive is scheduled for January 2011. In the meantime, please consider helping out at the Wikification drive or any of the other places where help with backlogs is needed.

Thank you for participating in the last 2010 backlog elimination drive! We look forward to seeing you in January!

GOCE drive news

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! The drive is halfway over, so here are some mid-drive stats.

Participation

GOCE January 2011 backlog elimination drive progress graphs

So far, 43 people have signed up for this drive. Of these, 25 have participated. If you signed up for the drive but haven't participated yet, it's not too late! Try to copy edit at least a few articles. Remember, if you have rollover words from the last drive, you will lose them if you do not participate in this drive. If you haven't signed up for the drive yet, you can sign up now.

Progress report

We have eliminated two months from the backlog – January and February 2009. One of our goals is to eliminate as many months as possible from the 2009 backlog. Please help us reduce the size of this part of the backlog if you haven't already. Another goal is to reduce the entire backlog by 10%, or by 515 articles. Currently, we have eliminated 375 articles from the queue, so if each participant copy edits four more articles, we will reach that goal.

Thank you for participating in the January 2011 drive. We anticipate it will be another big success!

GOCE January Backlog elimination drive conclusion

Guild of Copy Editors January 2011 Backlog elimination drive

Greetings from the January 2011 Backlog elimination drive! We have reached the end of the month and the end of another successful drive; thanks to all who participated.

Statistics
  • 54 people signed up for the year's first Backlog elimination drive. Of these, 40 participated.
  • One of our goals was to reduce the size of the backlog by at least 10%. We managed to reduce the backlog by 633 articles, or about 12%.
  • Another goal was to eliminate as many 2009 months as possible from the queue. We eliminated January, February, March, and April—4 out of 12 months is not bad! In addition, we eliminated 37% of all remaining 2009 articles from the queue.
  • Chaosdruid copy edited Kutch Gurjar Kashtriya for 32,711 words, which is the largest single article completed in one of our drives so far. This article counts as six 5000-K articles, and Chaosdruid wins the "most 5000-K articles" leaderboard category. Way to go! A complete list of individual results is here.
