Disambiguation link notification for October 2

Hi. Thank you for your recent edits. Wikipedia appreciates your help. We noticed though that when you edited General debate of the seventieth session of the United Nations General Assembly, you added a link pointing to the disambiguation page Frederick Mitchell. Such links are almost always unintended, since a disambiguation page is merely a list of "Did you mean..." article titles. Read the FAQ • Join us at the DPL WikiProject.

Bare urls

Please do not remove formatted references and replace them with a bare url. I have zero patience for this sort of behaviour from you, so I'm afraid I'm going to request a sanction immediately if you do it again (I notice from your archive that you have been asked not to do this several times by editors other than myself). As for the "Result" section heading, I really hoped we were past that. Do we really need to have the same conversations again and again... Number 57 20:21, 12 October 2015 (UTC)

Your contributed article, Kogalymavia Flight 9268

If this is the first article that you have created, you may want to read the guide to writing your first article.

You may want to consider using the Article Wizard to help you create articles.

Hello, I noticed that you recently created a new page, Kogalymavia Flight 9268. First, thank you for your contribution; Wikipedia relies solely on the efforts of volunteers such as you. Unfortunately, the page you created covers a topic on which we already have a page – Metrojet_Flight_9268. Because of the duplication, your article has been tagged for speedy deletion. Please note that this is not a comment on you personally and we hope you will continue helping to improve Wikipedia. If the topic of the article you created is one that interests you, then perhaps you would like to help out at Metrojet_Flight_9268 – you might like to discuss new information at the article's talk page.

If you think the article you created should remain separate, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the deleting administrator, or if you have already done so, you can place a request here. Additionally if you would like to have someone review articles you create before they go live so they are not nominated for deletion shortly after you post them, allow me to suggest the article creation process and using our search feature to find related information we already have in the encyclopedia. Try not to be discouraged. Wikipedia looks forward to your future contributions. Donottroll (talk) 08:56, 31 October 2015 (UTC)

External links in Sinai crash

Hi! I saw this edit where the links to Russian sites were removed. (at Kogalymavia Flight 9268)

I am restoring them and here is why:

  • One is to the airline. Readers expect to see a link to the airline's crisis page. Metrojet and Kogalymavia are the same thing.
  • One is to Russia's EMERCOM, the country's emergency affairs ministry. Since the passengers were Russian and it was a Russian airline it is expected that the Russian government would publish something about it.
  • RIA Novosti is a Russian news agency.
  • It is standard for the aircraft manufacturer, Airbus, to publish a notice when something happens to an Airbus aircraft. Even though the title "Crisis" is simple, the page was specifically about the Sinai crash

Infobox Aircraft occurrence convention

Regarding [1], please notice the convention that an explicit "(all)" is written for all fatalies and an explicit "0" is written for zero survivors, according to Template:Infobox aircraft occurrence#Parameters, and consistent with other pages like Germanwings Flight 9525. Please revert your revert to my edit, or discuss in that template page if you disagree. — Peterwhy 01:26, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

[2] "Consensys" is how this matter has been applied so far in other well-developed all-death crash pages: Germanwings Flight 9525, Indonesia AirAsia Flight 8501, Malaysia Airlines Flight 370, & Air France Flight 447. (This list is not handpicked by me, but by AHeneen at Talk:Kogalymavia Flight 9268#Order of sections) While you said consensys can change, do you mind pointing me to where the new consensys has been reached? — Peterwhy 10:41, 1 November 2015 (UTC)

Your recent editing history at Kogalymavia Flight 9268 shows that you are currently engaged in an edit war. To resolve the content dispute, please do not revert or change the edits of others when you get reverted. Instead of reverting, please use the article's talk page to work toward making a version that represents consensus among editors. The best practice at this stage is to discuss, not edit-war. See BRD for how this is done. If discussions reach an impasse, you can then post a request for help at a relevant noticeboard or seek dispute resolution. In some cases, you may wish to request temporary page protection.

Being involved in an edit war can result in your being blocked from editing—especially if you violate the three-revert rule, which states that an editor must not perform more than three reverts on a single page within a 24-hour period. Undoing another editor's work—whether in whole or in part, whether involving the same or different material each time—counts as a revert. Also keep in mind that while violating the three-revert rule often leads to a block, you can still be blocked for edit warring—even if you don't violate the three-revert rule—should your behavior indicate that you intend to continue reverting repeatedly.

Diffs of the user's reverts:

  1. 21:00 Removed survivor=, removed fatalities = all
  2. 00:37 Edit Revert
  3. 01:19 Edit Revert
  4. 05:12 Edit Revert

Anti-Zionism

I saw your odd claim that "if they were anti-Zionist they wouldn't be in the Knesset" in a recent edit summary. There is nothing to stop an anti-Zionist parties entering the Knesset, and the anti-Zionist Balad (part of the Joint List) have held seats since 1999. Please only make edits like this if you are familiar with countries political systems. Thanks, Number 57 12:13, 9 November 2015 (UTC)

ArbCom elections are now open!

Hi,
You appear to be eligible to vote in the current Arbitration Committee election. The Arbitration Committee is the panel of editors responsible for conducting the Wikipedia arbitration process. It has the authority to enact binding solutions for disputes between editors, primarily related to serious behavioural issues that the community has been unable to resolve. This includes the ability to impose site bans, topic bans, editing restrictions, and other measures needed to maintain our editing environment. The arbitration policy describes the Committee's roles and responsibilities in greater detail. If you wish to participate, you are welcome to review the candidates' statements and submit your choices on the voting page. RT source on Russian Jet thingy

Please stop using the RT source. I removed it because the reference you gave had NO bibliographic information, NOR did it give any link. Feel free to add it back if you can provide enough information and/or a link for someone else to find it. Thanks --Jayron32 14:29, 24 November 2015 (UTC)

Strange removal of content

Can you please explain why you removed this? Your edit summary says "rvt IP vandalism", but my edit was in no way vandalism. Actually my edit was On 20 November Russia’s ambassador to Turkey was summoned and a spokesman for the Turkish foreign ministry said the Russians “were bombing civilian Turkmen villages, not fighting terror”.[1], yet you didn't even have the decency to notice you removed the content but not the reference. I added reliably sourced content, yet you removed it. I find that to be quite suspicious behaviour.--58.106.229.229 (talk) 06:19, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Fair use

Hi Lihaas. I saw that you removed images from the 2015 Russian Sukhoi Su-24 shootdown as "copyvios". However, in copyright there is a term called "fair use", which allows Wikipedia to include images which we don't have the copyright to, if the images are included for educational purposes and are not replaceable with free alternatives. As the specific images were released by their respective governments, they are uniquely informative, in a way that a user-generated replacement would not be. In addition, both maps obviously lose no potential commercial value, since they never had commercial intent in the first place, an important consideration for fair use. To be specific, the images fall squarely under point #9 of Wikipedia:Non-free content#Images, "Images that are themselves subject of commentary", as the images represent the claims of the two governments. Thue (talk) 08:23, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

I've just re-restored the map, and concur completely with Thue's comments above. This isn't a copyright violation given that a strong fair use claim can be sustained. Nick-D (talk) 07:14, 26 November 2015 (UTC)

Hi Lihaas, given the above and your recent edits, could I suggest that you take a short break from the 2015 Russian Sukhoi Su-24 shootdown article? While your edits are in good faith, I think that you're getting carried away. Regards, Nick-D (talk) 11:13, 25 November 2015 (UTC)

Thankful

Just wanted to formally say thanks for adding content to 2015_Russian_Sukhoi_Su-24_shootdown page. The reactions from leaders of other countries that are neighbouring Turkey and also that are part of NATO, I believe is very important content to draw a more detailed picture of the relationships and political atmosphere. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Hammer5000 (talkcontribs) 11:36, 27 November 2015 (UTC)
