Please accept my apology if that's true. I checked the edit history and may have been mistaken as there have been quite a lot lately as you may be aware of. You currently appear to be engaged in an edit war. Note that the three-revert rule prohibits making more than three reversions on a single page within a 24-hour period. Additionally, users who perform several reversions in content disputes may be blocked for edit warring even if they do not technically violate the three-revert rule. When in dispute with another editor you should first try to discuss controversial changes to work towards wording and content that gains a consensus among editors. Should that prove unsuccessful, you are encouraged to seek dispute resolution, and in some cases it may be appropriate to request page protection. Please stop the disruption, otherwise you may be blocked from editing.

Is there a reason you deleted the succession box, making what it appears to be more than three reverts in 24 hours, all without adding to the discussion in the talk page specifically pertaining to the succession box? Faux Painting edit

I really RESENT you editing out links to photos of my marbling work on the Faux Painting page. That was no more spamming than the FAUX LIKE A PRO entries, and the work is of extreme quality. I';m not after clients but felt it was reasonable to show a variety of high quality marbling.

I remember bacl 25 years ago, when decorative painters were a community. How petty and small-minded of you.

Crack City discussion

Hi -- You raise an interesting question about the list of places, in addition to Washington Heights, that were denigrated with the epithet "crack city" in the 1990s.

The reason I added the list was to point out that Washington Heights wasn't the only spot in Manhattan that had been given that name. I expanded the list so that readers can learn that plenty of other places -- Long Island, New Jersey, California, even England -- had crack problems too.

Here's another example. If someone posted that the 1 train is terrible because it's crowded at rush hour and on weekends and you can't understand the announcements half the time, it wouldn't be wrong, but it would be a selective fact because *all* subway trains are crowded at rush hour and many of them have poor p.a. systems. Fleshing out the facts makes it clear to those who don't ride NYC subways that the problem is widespread -- not limited to any one train line. And it keeps you from incorrectly thinking that the 1 train is worse than others in this regard.

Likewise, saying that Washington Heights was Crack City in the 1990s is true, but so were many other places. To limit the readers' information is unfair not only to the readers (they should be able to see all relevant facts), but also to the subject of the article (Washington Heights, in this case).

Adding information, not reducing it, makes WP valuable. The crime wave of the 1990s was a national phenomenon; it wasn't limited to one neighborhood in Upper Manhattan. Why prevent readers from finding out? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Nbaz34 (talk • contribs) 17:10, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

GenJones "consortium"

Apologies for the delay in responding.

I don't think there is a Gen Jones consortium. I think that there's one guy using sock puppets trying to use Wikipedia to pursue his own personal interests. Regardless, my experience with him/them was nothing short of harassment.

Sock puppeting of GenJones does does not appear to be limited to Wikipedia; to pull just one of a number of links, here's a guy on HuffingtonPost who never posts anything unless it's related to GenJones:

Therefore, I'm opposed to any mention of Gen Jones in any of the post-WWII generational pages that gives credibility to this as an academic term.

I would go so far as to only keep a GenJones page if it includes an analysis of whether sock puppets have been used historically, as well as discussion about the relative lack of use of the GenJones term in the 2008 Presidential election, where one would have expected it to be used frequently if the concept had standing in the wider community.

I reply to you here because I am finding it difficult to place comments on the conversion therapy talk page.

Your comments regarding criticism of ex-gay treatment are not very clear. Could you please explain exactly what you meant by saying that "The problem with the criticism that was being used focused on the impropriety of a small group"? The fact that "Examples of impropriety are universal" is irrelevant. If there is a risk of sexual exploitation or abuse in other kinds of therapy, then articles about those kinds of therapy should have information to that effect. There is no justification for removing these facts from the conversion therapy article - however inconvenient and embarrassing some may find them. With regard to your comment, "It is appropriate to explain that supporters of ex-gay ministry usually do not define there mission as "conversion therapy" from homosexual to heterosexual", I reply that the article is concerned with ex-gay ministry only as form of conversion therapy. When the criticism you choose to add uses the term "suspect testimonials", many readers will interpret the edit as POV or the source as dubious WP:RS. I see that you have improved the language by including Halderman's name, but it would be nice to know who this guy is and why we should trust his intemperate opinion. I also took issue with the conclusion "...data were unconvincing, founded on a poorly described treatment program that used ill-defined constructs." This is a conclusion that could be deduced from any reader, so to tack it onto the end of the paragraph seemed unnecessary and agenda pushing. Your new edit acknowledging Halderman is better, but I still don't know why I should trust him any more that any other motivated activist.

Your original source, Gonsiorek and Weinrich, seem to have a history of publishing titles about gays and public policy, like Sexual Landscapes: Why We Are What We Are, Why We Love Whom We Love. This is not necessarily a problem, but their stance should be noted in article copy and their essay should not be the only opinion allowed into the article.

Just because the Yarhouse study rejects the term "conversion therapy", does not mean it is not the same thing as defined by this article. In the past few days, many editors have noted the vague terms "conversion therapy", "reparative therapy" and "ex-gay" and how they are used differently by different organizations depending on the agenda. If ex-gay ministry has an accepted definition that extends outside conversion therapy, we cannot have a paragraph as limited as you suggest. It is lying. Activist editors some time ago equated reparative therapy with conversion therapy. Just follow the link and see for yourself. As long as WP links the two, our sources should as well. I support separating a reparative therapy section as I think there are some distinct differences, notably patient willingness and the lack of any pharmaceutical or physical component.

I admit, I don't follow your objection to the inclusion of Yardhouse. The Yardhouse study isn't really a big "win" for ex-gay supporters. If you think about the subset... a group of very motivated, religious homosexuals with a rate of 15% conversion to a "complicated" heterosexuality... well, that's a pretty slim "success" rate.

This may surprise you, but I'm not some huge supporter of conversion therapy or ex-gay ministry. What I am a supporter of is a useful, intelligent Wikipedia unencumbered by agenda and ideology. Sadly, there is a very strong, very motivated minority of editors who want to define certain articles and topics, claiming that their worldview is the "right" worldview. If I incorrectly assumed you among their number, I apologize. But then I would encourage you see the excellent essay Wikipedia:Writing for the opponent and the classic Wikipedia:Assume good faith.--Knulclunk (talk) 02:56, 12 September 2009 (UTC)

"Suspect testimonials" is what Haldeman says. I don't think anyone can be held accountable for how readers might interpret the article; some people might interpret anything in any fashion. I have no problem with identifying who Haldeman is or what his qualifications are, if that is done in a neutral way. Including his conclusion is necessary if we are going to represent his views in an accurate way; again, I wouldn't place any confidence in what "any" reader would conclude. The "ill-defined constructs" part could not necessarily be deduced from the rest of the paragraph. Who you choose to trust is entirely your affair, but we can't ignore a reliable source because we may not like or agree with its author. You admit that the Yarhouse study says it is not about conversion therapy, but imply that it is the "same thing as defined by this article." The article does not define conversion therapy at all; it presents the multiple definitions that exist in reliable sources. I simply don't understand what you mean by saying that "If ex-gay ministry has an accepted definition that extends outside conversion therapy, we cannot have a paragraph as limited as you suggest." Ex-gay ministries are only relevant in an article on conversion therapy to the extent that sources regard them as conversion therapy, as Haldeman does, but Yarhouse does not. I agree with you that turning reparative therapy into a separate article from conversion therapy, rather than simply a redirect to it, would be a good idea, but it would be difficult to do that, and I don't regard it as a high priority. WHAT Wikis Take Manhattan is a scavenger hunt and free content photography contest aimed at illustrating Wikipedia and StreetsWiki articles covering sites and street features in Manhattan and across the five boroughs of New York City.

Just a heads up, but when a fair-use rationale is given, it is best to use the Non-free use rationale template as can be seen now at File:Slboard10.gif. Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop at CMU (Aug 15)

Since you are one of the editors in the Category:Wikipedians by alma mater: Carnegie Mellon University, I'd like to invite you to the Teaching with Wikipedia Workshop that will take place at CMU on Aug 15 (this workshop is open to general public, and is a joint imitative of CMU and Pitt). There will be another workshop held at Pitt in the Fall as well. It will cover how to include Wikipedia in one's course (WP:SUP) and also how to become a Wikipedia:Campus Ambassadors. Pennsylvania has currently only one ambassador (myself) and it would be great if we could recruit at least several more. Ambassadors help course instructors, showing them how Wikipedia works, and interact with students. Eskimo Pie question

I notice that you did a couple of revisions on the Eskimo Pie article. I'm wondering about something, and I'm not sure how to raise the issue. The article states, "In 1921, he filed for a patent, and secured an agreement with local chocolate producer Russell C. Stover to mass-produce them under the new trademarked name "Eskimo Pie" (a name suggested by Mrs. Stover." I question whether or not the name was suggested by Mrs. Stover. My curiosity was aroused because the reason I looked up the article was to decide whether or not to trash a 40-year old handout about the origin of the name that a local ice cream company (a wholesaler) used to give away to retailers who sold the product. (No, there is no attribution in the handout.) That article states, "After several months of selling the product in the Iowa area, they decided the ice cream bar should have a more appealing name. One evening after dining with some friends, Mr. Nelson and his partner took the dictionary from the shelf and began to list all the words that were applicable to "cold". Some of the listings were frigid, frozen, chilly, zero, eskimo[sic], igloo, and snowman. After much deliberation everyone felt the word "ESKIMO" was the most appropriate and defined coldness."

There do exist numerous references to the name being suggested by Russell Stover's wife, Clara, but there is a 1922 book available free via Google ebooks, which is an interview with the advertising manager of Russell Stover, J.E. I find it unlikely that the sales manager of Stover's company would fail to mention that Mrs. Stover had originated the name if she had done so. The article at http://amhistory.si.edu/archives/d8553.htm states only, "It was decided the name would change from Nelson's "I-Scream Bar" to "Eskimo Pie"" [in 1921]. That exact sentence appears in other places as well. Funding Universe, in its history of the Eskimo Pie Corporation, states only, "Stover has been credited with changing the name of the novelty to the now-famous Eskimo Pie." I am uncertain about where the source for Mrs. Stover originated. If you don't see it in the attached references, you can mark it citation needed. If you have sources for a different origin of the name, you should put them in the article.
