Combined techniques: slashes and hypens

I agree that there should be a consistent use; currently there are about the same number of GC/MS as GC-MS occurrences. In Wikipedia, there is the additional possibility for confusion since slashes can indicate a sub page. --Kkmurray (talk) 15:12, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

WikiProject Mass spectrometry

Hi Kermit, I notice you have done a lot of work on mass spectrometry-related articles and I thank you for that. I was wondering if WikiProject Mass spectrometry is still active. I ask because I recently did an overhaul of the mass chromatogram article and noticed there were a lot of non-pertinant redirects to it, e.g. single ion monitoring, selected reaction monitoring, multiple reaction monitoring. Hello, I assume you're the same Murray who designed the TREK73 website. Bravo! And thanks for creating and defending the WP page against AfDs. I think it would improve the article if we had a scan of some original teletype gameplay, and maybe even a pic of a HP2000 like this [1][2]. Maybe a capture of the DOS version output. Sadly, the shoebox of teletype rolls my brother and I accumulated was thrown out years ago. His strategy was to drop all shields and use the extra power to run backwards at warp 9 and lob probes and torpedoes into the now bunched up enemy ships. If you did that just right, you could get a chain reaction going as the ships self destructed. Be careful with your warnings on IP user pages

Hi Murray, yesterday you flagged this removal [3] of Cats and Dogs from Analytical chemistry as vandalism by IP 82.41.26.17 despite the edit summary stating that they were reverting vandalism. Though you also subsequently warned the true offending editor at 96.46.214.90, you did not revert the warning/ or correct the innocent editor's user talk page [4]. Please be careful when warning users that their good faithed edits are non helpful, If you do not object Ive removed the warning for the time being. The problem was that IP 82.41.26.17 didn't replace the content that the obvious vandal 96.46.214.90 had removed. The definition "Analytical chemistry is the study of the separation, identification, and quantification of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials." became "Analytical chemistry is the study of the chemical components of natural and artificial materials" which would be difficult to catch without a close look. I restored the content left out by 82.41.26.17 and indicated in the edit summary that deleted content was restored and left the message with "It might not have been your intention, but your recent edit removed content" on the 82.41.26.17 talk page. It seemed friendly enough at the time, so I left it stand with no additional comment. I also left a vandalism warning on the talk page of 96.46.214.90. In retrospect, I was remiss in not taking more time to point out exactly what 82.41.26.17 had done in error. Displacement chromatography

Back in January 2009 you noted the resemblance of some material in Displacement chromatography to a magazine article on the same subject. The material is still there, unreferenced. However I think it likely the material was contributed by the author of the copied article; I have not investigated whether he still held the copyright. I would not term the article spam. It is an interesting case illustrating POV and sourcing issues in scientific articles and shows some of the difficulties that Wikipedia seems to have with low traffic technical articles. I am hoping that it will be possible to resolve the content fork before the end of the month. They were not intended to be construed as vandalism. The text when I came to it this afternoon (its ~18:40 here in UK at present) did not make sense. So I tried to make sense of it. And then realised that in fact there is a complete sine wave from the centre to the rim in ALL directions within the equatorial plane. I'll be happy to discuss this with you, and possibly learn from you, as I suspect you know a lot about this but that the article does not completely reflect your degree of knowledge. Anode ray image

Hello, I am doing a bit of editing at Anode ray where you have donated a diagram. I do not understand why it shows only a single disk of visible emission on the anode side of the grid, whereas both notionally and in actual images, the whole space before the grid is luminescent. I would like to do either an edit of the image or replace the image accordingly, but would prefer first to ensure that you had no special intention that I overlooked in the image as it stands. Fish and moth categories

Hi, Kkmurray. I've seen the speedy deletion notices on @NotWith:'s talk page. I'm curious, though -- the deletion discussions you point to did not specifically discuss these categories (e.g. Category:Moths of Argentina) and the deletion rationale seemed specific to Europe. Further, these categories didn't exist prior to the deletion discussion and while it is part of a larger objectionable behavior on NotWith's part (I, for one, don't agree the categories are not defining, but don't prefer to see them broken down by taxa like this and instead prefer "Fauna of Argentina"), it wouldn't be a candidate for speedy deletion under WP:G4. The proper route would be another deletion discussion and if, as seems to be the wider concern, a discussion of user conduct regarding NotWith's category creation. Kkmurray, I agree with Rkitko that CSD doesn't appear valid - the CFDs you refer to (e.g. Wikipedia:Categories_for_discussion/Log/2014_March_16#Category:Moths_of_Andorra) are specifically for European countries so "has been previously deleted" doesn't apply.
