Question about films eligible for the Camera d'Or edit

Hi Kerlykew, first of all thank you for all the good work in the Cannes Awards. I see that starting from 2011 you have added a marker for "Directorial debut feature; eligible for the Caméra d'Or". Is this according to some source or by looking for the films that are a directorial debut? The only list for selection of Camera d'Or that I found is here: http://www.cinema-francais.fr/cannes/cannes_2011.htm, and since the Camera d'Or winner isn't in it, I am wondering about whether it is even worth citing. My opinion, though not very rigid, is that if we don't have a source that states that X films were eligible, we shouldn't make be making it up. I will appreciate your feedback. Cheers. Hoverfish Talk 21:30, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

The Caméra d'Or eligible films in the Official Selection are always confirmed by the Official Selection press kit which is uploaded on the same day as the press conference and updated accordingly as new films are added. It can be downloaded here: http://www.festival-cannes.com/en/press/download. The remaining Cámera d'Or eligible films in the parallel sections are announced in the festival schedule/Screenings Guide which can also be downloaded at the same link I provided. I have to admit, though, that during the festival, before the screenings guide is released, I sometimes place an asterisk next to films that have been confirmed to be "first films" by outside sources (the Critics' Week website, for example).Kerlykew (talk) 22:01, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
Thanks a lot for the download link, very useful to have. Is it OK with you if I replave the asterisk with a (small text) (CdO) ? I am trying to get rid of a separate "Key" section, and place the notes under the tables instead. But I am going slow on this as I understand you had a practical reason to do this, except that normally, per MOS, it shouldn't be a section in the article. Hoverfish Talk 22:27, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
No problem. I don't mind at all about the asterisk. I am not the one who created the Key template or the asterisk. I copied the Key template that was already in regular use on more recent Cannes Film Festival wiki pages to use on the Cannes 2011 page. Kerlykew (talk) 22:39, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Oh, and I just saw in you edit history that you moved Vulcan awards to independent. Well, I have been doing the same in all the years, given that they are given by an independent jury, but I noticed today that the official site has the vulcan awards as part of the official selection feature ones [1], so maybe it would be correct to move them all there. What do you think? Hoverfish Talk 21:36, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

My rationale for including it in the Independent Awards was, as you said, that it is given by an independent jury. I don't know enough about the C.S.T. and its relationship to the Cannes Film Festival to really have an opinion either way. And I don't really understand why the festival highlights this specific independent jury and not, for example, the Œil d'or which also covers the entire selection.Kerlykew (talk) 22:01, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
The Œil d'or came from an organization outside the festival authories in 2015. The CST had been working together with the festival authorities since 1951. Until 1959, the festival was "part of" (heavily dependent on) the Ministry of Industry. Many of the officials of the festival were functionaries of the Ministry. In 1959 its dependency moved to the Ministry of Cultural Affairs. So the technical prize started from within. At least this is what I understand. Hoverfish Talk 22:27, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
OK. Thanks for clearing that up. Kerlykew (talk) 22:40, 28 July 2017 (UTC)Reply
