Coventry to Nuneaton Line

Oops! When I added the map, I meant to copy the title into the image caption, but I must have moved it instead, and I didn't look at the finished result. Thanks for picking this up. — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  20:50, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

You are welcome. Did you spot the problem on the West Coast Main Line page. The insertion of the map causes the table entries to go out of alingment so it does not read right. I don't know how to fix that one though because of the way it has been constructed.

Keith D 21:21, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

I see what you mean. I've done a temporary fix, putting the map above the table, but it leaves a lot of white space. I can see where the problem lies - the table needs to have separate rows for each entry, but I don't know enough about tables to do this. I'll leave a message on the talk page, but if no-one else comes up with a solution I'll try and learn! — Tivedshambo (talk to me/look at me/ignore me) —  21:32, 30 September 2006 (UTC)

Trent Valley

Dear Keith, I put it to you that by diverting attention to a Trent Valley Line article which simply repeats some of the information already given in the WCML article, you are not doing the reader a favour. The time to do that is when the Trent Valley line article is worth reading - not now. Sincerely, Noel NoelWalley 17:15, 9 October 2006 (UTC)

Hello Keith! I just wanted to drop by and give you a few editing reminders per your additions here. Please remember not to use personal pronouns, and to make sure things are notable. If you think I was misguided in removing these additions, please contact me. Dar-Ape 03:19, 17 October 2006 (UTC)

*gasp* Please accept my sincere apologies. Not only did I accidentally remove your good edit, I confused you with User:Ellis 06 (who was the one who added non-notable content with personal pronouns) and mistakenly contacted you instead of him/her. Very sorry about this. I have restored your edit, and thank you very much for contacting me and remaining so calm despite my dumb mistake. Hope this clears things up. Proposal for rugby super league

Leave your opinion on this[1] matter if you are interested. It is basically about the term rugby super league being used as a disambiguation for all rugby competitions by that or a similar name. Currently it is used as a page for the American RU competition, the rugby super league.

Re. Image Delete

I misread your question a bit I think... if you want an image deleted, that you created, just put {{db-author}} on the description page, which notifies admins to come and speedy delete it. I hope that helps, for any future requests. --Majorly 22:36, 3 December 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for your question. I think that it would clearly be better calling the page Cawston, Warwickshire rather than Cawston(Rugby). I would have done it myself but not sure if I can. The person who started it must have been a schoolkid who lives there I think! Cls14 16:35, 4 January 2007 (UTC)

Thanks Keith for fixing up this and John Edward Bromby. I use Navigation popups to check links but on a quick glance the pop-up for Hull looks to be the right article, anyway, keep up the good work. – Diverman 03:12, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Alex Moore (musician)

You tagged the article for a history merge with Alex Moore (Bass Guitarist). Since both articles are identical and have both only been edited by one editor, why not just redirect Alex Moore (Bass Guitarist) to Alex Moore (musician)? IrishGuy talk 19:46, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

I was going to do that but thought that the history on the original had to be moved to the other article. My mistake if that is not the case. Keith D 19:49, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
The history doesn't have to be moved in a case like this. The two histories are pretty much identical. Since neither will be deleted (one merely redirected) the histories will still be there for viewing either way. If this works, I will go ahead and redirect. IrishGuy talk 19:56, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

Sedgwick, Cumbria

I created this page. Why did you delete the Cumbria stub, the fact that it is 4 miles south of Kendal, and that Levens Hall is just west? And what "per guidelines for locations" are you ref to re: categories? PLEASE don't delete my infobox updates! (see www.sedgwick.org/na/misc/seggeswickvillage-1600s.html, which I linked to the article) Worc63 01:28, 17 March 2007 (UTC)

I did not delete the stub. I renamed it to remove the over disambiguation on the name by removing the England, United Kingdom which is totally unnesessary. On the categories you only need the lowest level category on an article. It is automatically in the other categories by virtue of that category being a sub-category of the one above.
The guidelines for use of England only and not UK were Wikipedia:WikiProject UK geography/How to write about settlements
Keith D 10:52, 17 March 2007 (UTC)
By the way I have just looked at the diffs and I did not make any changes to the infobox. It is as you created it.

Schools infoboxes

The more I looked into it, the more complicated it became. We have 3 just for UK schools each with relatively few articles using them (I assume there would be no objection to their amalgamation), but also Template:Infobox College GB which could probably be absorbed into a combined UK template. Then I got to thinking we could just add optional fields to a universal all-countries template, but this doesn't really exist yet. For now I would say convert the UK templates into Template:Infobox GB school as it is the most visually similar to the other worldwide templates (but turn off the yellow - that isn't on the other templates and probably has some accessability issues). It might also be a good idea to look for, or start, a debate somewhere about a universal infobox to replace the variety that are available. MRSCTalk 15:51, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks for that, I will use the Template:Infobox GB school as suggested for now. Just a reduction in UK boxes would be a start. Keith D 22:26, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Thanks. Keith D 18:23, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
I saw that it seemed to have a complicated history; at least more complicated than I can figure out before I had my breakfast!  :) Anyhow, my only strong feeling is that as is, the article should not exist. Since you are more familiar with the article and it's history than I am, if you have a better idea on what to do, then I will go for it. If you know the original intent of the article and have the time/patience to find the last legit version, then feel free to deprod it and revert it. Whatever you decide as long as it doesn't stay the way it is! Postcard Cathy 13:44, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
If you feel that protecting it is best, then ask an admin to do that. I don't know how. I also don't know what the original intent of the article is. So, go for it if you think it is best. Sounds to me like it is. Postcard Cathy 13:51, 1 May 2007 (UTC)
Took a quick look at the history page. For a page that would only be a redirect, I don't know if it is worth it to go to the effort of having it protected if it will only be a redirect. I think that it being deleted would be best and then if it comes back, take it from there! Postcard Cathy 21:59, 1 May 2007 (UTC)

Why do you keep changing my edit of the postal town to DEWSBURY when it is infact WAKEFIELD. i know this and it is extremely frustrating when it keeps being changed. i do work in the postal office in Dewsbury but our main depot, and indeed the main depot to most of west yorkshire, is Wakefield. if you or the other person took time to look this up you would infact see that i am correct. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 81.103.90.76 (talk) 11:06, 5 May 2007 (UTC).

I did look at the Royal Mail web site before making the change and that stated the post town is Dewsbury and not Wakefield. Keith D 18:12, 8 May 2007 (UTC)

David Glacier images

Why exactly did you remove my image of the David Glacier crevasses, and exactly what "Source" information is needed to keep the image there ? I took the photo myself, (November 2003), and wish to have cc-by-sa-2.5 associated with it. Advice appreciated. Is the accompanying image (larger view of the david Glacier) ok for its source & copyright information ?. I thought I had the same (source & copyright) information on both. Iceseismic 03:37, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

I did not remove any image from the article. Looking at the history the image was removed by User:OrphanBot which is a bot account that removes images from articles if the image has not got an approptiate license tag against it. If you upload images then you need to ensure that an appropriate license is chosen so that images are not removed by the bot. Keith D 08:30, 13 May 2007 (UTC)
I had a closer look at the image and the license tags look OK to me so unsure why the bot removed it. Keith D 08:36, 13 May 2007 (UTC)

Template:Infobox GB school

Hi there!

I'll put the automatic wikilinks back in right away. Thanks for letting me know about the problem - most grateful. It's very easily fixed.

As you seem to know the number of articles which use the template, could you provide me with the list? Much appreciated, and thanks for being so civil. A lesser man would have had a go at the newbie. Cheers! (Chgallen 21:49, 29 May 2007 (UTC))

OK, that's done and I also added a note to editors not to remove the wikilinks. Lovely. (Chgallen)

"OK if you wish to go round all of the articles correcting them then feel free..."

I've held you to that! I've gone right through all the schools that use the template, and identified which used piped {{!}} links. There weren't actually that many:

Anyway, they don't use them anymore. I've removed the autowikilinks from the template (see Template talk:Infobox GB school for my rationale), and am currently going through all schools which use the template reinserting links, where appropriate. Now would probably be a good time to say well done for your work on all these schools, by the by. So: well done! (Chgallen 10:35, 30 May 2007 (UTC))

Yep, sounds good. After I've done, do you know the procedure for merging templates? There are too many possible ones to use for a British school, so it would make sense to cut down the number. (Chgallen)

Hi there. I've proposed a merger of UK Schools infoboxes here. Hopefully this will move forward now. (Chgallen 13:25, 1 June 2007 (UTC))

It does look bland, doesn't it? I mainly edited it to come in line with the infoboxes used by top importance British schools. Ideally, once the merger has been agreed, a few of these can be moved over to the GB template as opposed to the American one. It's more likely to be agreed to if the two look similar. We can always edit it back, though. I'll add the note to the Education project now, though. (Chgallen 14:06, 1 June 2007 (UTC))

Coords

I don't get that... but I'll remove them again till I can work out what's gone wrong. Thanks for the heads-up. (chgallen 21:57, 7 June 2007 (UTC))

I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.4, but seeing as how the coord display isn't the be all and end all I'll leave it for the moment. I had a bit of a lightbulb moment about your school in two villages - why not use the location field for the country and county, and the free parameters for the two addresses of the buildings? (chgallen 15:00, 8 June 2007 (UTC))

re merging Yorkshire Amateurs

Hiya - being a newbie, I thought I'd start on something simple and I've been trawling throught he broken redirects.Anyway, cutting a long story short - I see that you have suggested a merge of 'Yorkshire Amateurs' to the 'Yorkshire Amateur F.C' page - but the 'Yorkshire Amateurs' page has been deleted (and came up as a broken link)...sooo.... do you still really want to merge it ? :-)

re previous message re broken link

Grrr... still getting used to this... didn't sign the last message ! Sorry ! CultureDrone 06:50, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

The article was deleted under CSD G12: Blatant Copyright infringement after I had tagged it for merge. I would just remove the merge tag indicating that the other article was deleted. Probably need to check if the Yorkshire Amateur F.C. article is a Copyright infringement by doing some Goole searches on some phrases in it. Keith D 09:03, 19 June 2007 (UTC)

About this - I personally think that presentation is of utmost importance in Wikipedia, as outsiders will perceive that anything which looks unprofessional will be unprofessional. As for the content of the article, it is laughable, and only serves the purpose of the person who wrote it, not somebody who's actually trying to find out pertinent information about the road.  — superbfc talk | cont ] — 12:09, 24 June 2007 (UTC)

Notability of Andy Wear (artist)

Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Andy Wear (artist), by Grahamec (talk · contribs), another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Andy Wear (artist) seems to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Andy Wear (artist), please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Please note that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it did not nominate Andy Wear (artist) itself. Feel free to leave a message on the bot operator's talk page if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot. --Android Mouse Bot 2 03:41, 5 July 2007 (UTC)

User:Keith D/monobook.js

The page User:Keith D/monobook.js is being placed in the WikiProject Schools Unnassessed Category due to its use of the {{WPSchools}} Banner. Please find a way to remove its inclusion. Adam McCormick 22:01, 7 July 2007 (UTC)

It looks like it is a side effect of using the script User:Outriggr/metadatatest.js to do assesments. This has recently been changed to place the selection of projects in the user monobook.js file rather than coding into the script. This will occur more as the users of the script switch over to the new way of project selection. I have ask the question on the script talk page to see if this side effect can be avoided. Keith D 22:52, 7 July 2007 (UTC)
The problem has been fixed now. The script installation instructions have also been changed so others do not get the same problem. Keith D 12:53, 8 July 2007 (UTC)

Local Government District infobox

Hello Keith D,

Thanks for your hard work on this! I'll take a good look at this before the end of the day and see how we can work out the best way forwards with this in terms of look and functionality. My goals here are to mimic some of the content, look and functionality of Template:Infobox UK place, as well as standardise the content, and automate as much of the infomation as possible! My infobox history is pretty much nil in terms of creation, though contributed alot of the ideas for the UK place one.

I'll get back to you asap! Thanks again! I think this could be something very, very useful here. Jza84 14:22, 11 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello again,
OK, I've taken a look at the infobox - alot of strong points; a very, very strong start. It eliminates the "fake infobox" tables that we've been using so far; that's for sure. However, the next steps in my view are to make it conform more to Template:Infobox Settlement and Template:Infobox UK place in terms of look, as these are WP:CITIES and WP:UKCITIES class templates. I can't see the pink headings being popular on articles such as Manchester and Sheffield (!).
Liverpool's infobox does look good, but its too open to tampering and forking in my view, which is why we need the district specific infobox. The Template:Infobox Settlement is very, very open, and things such as UK vs England, current county and former county are likely to become targets for edit warring and forking. However, a very, very good start. What are your thoughts for next steps? Jza84 21:29, 11 July 2007 (UTC)
I think you will get problems whichever way you go. Those who currently have pink boxes will complain if you remove the colouring. I have tried to fix the row height problem but without success. I can switch to wiki type table but then you will not get ability to merge rows to remove the boarder, but not using that at the moment.
I guess the first thing to do is decide what fields you want in the box and what order they should appear in. (The existing articles have the same data in different orders). Layout of the table and making fields optional can follow later.
Maybe you need to create some page where it can be discussed by a wider audience.
Keith D 12:03, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I have done a wikitable version without the pink headings. If you re-run the template call you will get both versions. Keith D 14:09, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
I'd like to add hCard mark-up. It it OK to edit in your sandbox? Andy Mabbett 14:26, 12 July 2007 (UTC)
Please leave it for now, we are just playing around with it at the moment. It needs lots of things such as if processing etc. I am just creating something basic at the moment as an aunt sally for discussion. Keith D 14:36, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

Hello again, sorry for the delay in replying. I would suggest Template_talk:Infobox UK district (we may need to use England rather than UK, as I'm unsure if non-Anglo districts are wholly compatible) as a place for discussion, once, as you say, we have a solid "aunt sally".

You asked about fields and field ordering; I would have to recommend something along the following:

  • District name (of course)
  • Image (for use for a photograph of the town hall or such)
    • Image caption
  • Council coat of arms image
  • Map (I think all districts have these)
  • Status (i.e. district, borough, city, unitary authority, metropolitan borough)
    • Date (year it recieved borough/city status)
  • Area & Elevation
  • Admin HQ
  • Contemporary county
  • Official region
  • Constituent country
  • Sovereign state
  • Demography
    • Population
    • Population density
    • Ethnicity
  • ISO 3166-2
  • ONS code
  • OS grid reference
  • NUTS 3
  • Police
  • Fire
  • Ambulance
  • Politics
    • Governing body
    • Council control (political party)
    • Mayor
    • Wards (for a total number of electoral wards)
  • Website
  • List of places (like on UK place infobox)

I know this is alot sorry, but this, to me at least, is the optimum content - I'm not saying this is your task alone either, I think this is what the community needs to build towards. Also, I think we need to consider intigrating {{English district rank|ONS=}} etc which are also already used. Once we've drawn upon some experienced editors, I'd like to see as much automation as possible (for emergency services, countries etc).

I've removed "historic county" because there was an overwhelming consensus not to include this on UK place infobox for multiple reasons (though that's not to say it shouldn't be included in article prose). Simillarly, flags were massively objected to in UK infoboxes. Other options, like "time zone" and "MPs" I guess could be discussed.

Does this help in anyway? Jza84 19:31, 12 July 2007 (UTC)

I have added a coat of arms image entry, but put it down under politics as per most of existing districts. Also NUTS 3 and ISO 3166-2 entries. Not sure about list of places as these are normally created on a county level not at the district level. I have left out Soverign State as I do not think it should be present more relevant would be Country which is not specified. On mayor do you think we need 2 entries one for mayor & one for lord mayor or a single entry with a title field but that leaves it open for other uses.
I have also left out the services as they are generated in the UK place box automatically using sub-pages and can be added later when an official home is found for the template and we can create the sub pages.

Thwaite Hall

Thwaite Hall page could really benefit from having the link to Thwaite Duck on it's page as this page contains large amounts of useful information on the Hall that is not posted on here. It is not selling anything (except the offer to organizations to advertise there, even then there are no banners) and does not contain any indecent or in appropriate material. This link is just to improve the understanding of the reader.

—The preceding unsigned comment was added by Luchano's (talkcontribs) 17:46, 15 July 2007 UTC.

The link may contain useful information but the way it is put in the article implying the information is better than on site is the problem. I will leave it for the moment & move to external links section but other editors may remove it especially if some of the under construction sections start to advertise. Please add information to the article if it is of encyclopedic information with apprpriate references. Keith D 19:21, 15 July 2007 (UTC)

Counties

Hello Keith D,

I've noticed you've reverted some of User:86.156.102.33's edits during the last 24 hours. I fully support you on this (as we are backed by policy, source material and consensus).

All I ask is that you keep an eye on this with me, as the county issue has been a matter that has lead to cyber bullying and highly distruptive editting in the past. I believe User:Imaginativename is a named account of this user looking at the comparable contributions.

I've left messages at their talk page to try to nip this in the bud. Jza84 23:48, 11 August 2007 (UTC)

I was altered by them adding Waddington, Lancashire to List of places in Yorkshire. But there appears to have been some old discussion on the purpose of that list. I have commented there hoping to get a definition of what should go into it. May be you could contribute a comment on there.
Will be away on holiday from end of week but will try and keep an eye on things without inflaming the situation too much. Keith D 08:28, 12 August 2007 (UTC)
